00:01We're getting a first look at Alien Romulus, the next project in the Alien film franchise.
00:07Disney finally pulled back the curtain on the Interquil, releasing a terrifying 62-second teaser trailer
00:13that re-establishes the look and feel of the franchise's classics.
00:17Filmmaker Fede Alvarez's new film takes place between Ridley Scott's Alien in 1979 and James Cameron's Aliens in 1986.
00:25The story focuses on a group of 20-something space colonizers and scavengers
00:30who have the misfortune of meeting a xenomorph inside a space station.
00:34The film has a notably young cast that's led by Kaylee Spaney and Isabella Merced.
00:38Alvarez tells The Hollywood Reporter that the idea to follow younger people in this world
00:43came from an Aliens-deleted scene that Cameron eventually restored in his extended special edition cut.
00:49There's a moment where you see a bunch of kids running and riding a big wheel around the corridors of this colony.
00:53And I thought, wow, what would it be like for those kids to grow up in a colony
00:57that still needs another 50 years to terraform?
01:00The eighth film in the Alien franchise was originally slated to be a Hulu release,
01:04but Alvarez said the studio wisely shifted to theatrical at the start of principal photography.
01:09The film even has Ridley Scott's seal of approval.
01:12Alvarez has previously noted he walks into the room and he did say,
01:16Fede, what can I say? It's great.
01:18The Alien sequel is slated to release on August 16, 2024.
