We're asking everyone how the political climate, especially of course in America and other
00:05
parts of the world, is sort of affecting your creative decisions or your sort of artistic
00:11
choices.
00:12
Oof.
00:13
Oof.
00:14
Oof.
00:15
In a soundbite?
00:16
Hey, why not?
00:17
Let the Americans do it.
00:18
We don't say nothing.
00:19
It's not so great in Australia either.
00:21
Yeah, it's not so great in Britain either, but it's a total mess everywhere.
00:30
Can we say the word climate?
00:33
No.
00:34
I'm not sure that's allowed anymore.
00:36
No, it's very uncomfortable.
00:37
You're not, it's very sensitive.
00:38
For so many reasons.
00:39
One is sort of of two minds.
00:41
I mean, I'll speak for myself.
00:42
You kind of think, well, I have the ability to make films.
00:45
Maybe it's incumbent upon me to make a political movie of some type, not literally, but even
00:51
with a metaphor.
00:52
And on the other hand, when times are tough politically, you think, well, now's the time
00:56
to make art and just show something with love.
01:01
It definitely informs the direction of stories and the scripts people are writing, and I'm
01:07
sensing and feel responsibility to use their voice to engage in something that has relevance.
01:14
I feel that very much.
01:16
I think we're living in very scary times, and we all have to be responsible.
01:25
The great thing that's, has happened and is continuing to happen, as was happening during
01:30
the time of Watergate.
01:31
People are getting out and protesting.
01:34
That hasn't happened in America for many, many years.
01:37
I think if you put work out there that, you know, not only entertains but educates people
01:42
and somehow allow us to see the other side, like for this film, I think it's not a coincidence
01:53
that for the two main characters who don't speak, Guillermo chose to have a black woman and
02:00
a closeted gay man be the voices, you know, for them.
02:05
That says a lot about where we are in the world and where people of color and the LGBTQ community
02:12
are.
02:13
I'm a minority.
02:14
Exactly.
02:15
You definitely, definitely.
02:16
The minority are minority.
02:17
Exactly.
02:18
So, yeah, I think our job is to offer hope and inspire people.
02:22
I grew up in Canada and during a time I always thought that, you know, Canadians got kind of
02:28
a break through the whole Vietnam era.
02:31
America had Nixon and Watergate and Vietnam and all that stuff to deal with and there was
02:37
a certain, I don't know if it's cynicism but skepticism or whatever that happened from
02:42
that and it formed the character.
02:45
So, they come up to Canada, you know, when they're casting, you know, American TV shows
02:50
and movies to find the perfect middle American.
02:53
That, the idyllic, you know, Michael J. Fox and people like that who grew up in Canada.
03:00
It's a weird kind of phenomenon.
03:02
I don't know if that answered your question but I'm making sound and that's the important
03:06
thing.
03:07
These times are not unusual.
03:09
I mean, we tend to think that it's a crisis.
03:12
We're always in a crisis.
03:13
And the issues that bedevil us as human beings are constant.
03:18
They're eternal.
03:19
And they haven't changed since, you know, Socrates and Plato or any of the great Greek dramatists
03:24
started to write about the human condition.
03:26
You know, we're still wrestling with envy, pettiness, tribalism, you know.
03:33
Our camp against yours and finding points of difference rather than points of commonality.
03:38
And it's still the same old bag, unfortunately.
03:41
The world's a mess and it's perfect.
03:48
And someone left chewing gum under this seat.
03:51
That's very, very naughty.
03:53
Can you imagine doing that?
03:54
They're chewing gum.
03:55
I can't imagine anyone doing that.
03:57
I'm an actor.
03:58
I can't imagine, yeah.
03:59
I'm an actor for you.
04:00
He can't imagine a life refugee in America.
04:01
I can't imagine anyone doing that.
04:02
We just need that murder.
04:03
And that's a great idea.
04:04
Would you like to tell us all that by keeping somebody
04:11
doing some tightÙ now?
04:16
I do not know why not.
04:17
Let's never forget Amelia sprung.
04:19
And I'm confident that it can really be Random
04:23
put together in theĂ©rience of Florida beck ŃаŃ.
