"Our job is to offer hope and inspire people," Spencer told THR, while Oldman stated, "The world's a mess, and it's perfect."

00:00We're asking everyone how the political climate, especially of course in America and other
00:05parts of the world, is sort of affecting your creative decisions or your sort of artistic
00:11choices.
00:12Oof.
00:13Oof.
00:14Oof.
00:15In a soundbite?
00:16Hey, why not?
00:17Let the Americans do it.
00:18We don't say nothing.
00:19It's not so great in Australia either.
00:21Yeah, it's not so great in Britain either, but it's a total mess everywhere.
00:30Can we say the word climate?
00:33No.
00:34I'm not sure that's allowed anymore.
00:36No, it's very uncomfortable.
00:37You're not, it's very sensitive.
00:38For so many reasons.
00:39One is sort of of two minds.
00:41I mean, I'll speak for myself.
00:42You kind of think, well, I have the ability to make films.
00:45Maybe it's incumbent upon me to make a political movie of some type, not literally, but even
00:51with a metaphor.
00:52And on the other hand, when times are tough politically, you think, well, now's the time
00:56to make art and just show something with love.
01:01It definitely informs the direction of stories and the scripts people are writing, and I'm
01:07sensing and feel responsibility to use their voice to engage in something that has relevance.
01:14I feel that very much.
01:16I think we're living in very scary times, and we all have to be responsible.
01:25The great thing that's, has happened and is continuing to happen, as was happening during
01:30the time of Watergate.
01:31People are getting out and protesting.
01:34That hasn't happened in America for many, many years.
01:37I think if you put work out there that, you know, not only entertains but educates people
01:42and somehow allow us to see the other side, like for this film, I think it's not a coincidence
01:53that for the two main characters who don't speak, Guillermo chose to have a black woman and
02:00a closeted gay man be the voices, you know, for them.
02:05That says a lot about where we are in the world and where people of color and the LGBTQ community
02:12are.
02:13I'm a minority.
02:14Exactly.
02:15You definitely, definitely.
02:16The minority are minority.
02:17Exactly.
02:18So, yeah, I think our job is to offer hope and inspire people.
02:22I grew up in Canada and during a time I always thought that, you know, Canadians got kind of
02:28a break through the whole Vietnam era.
02:31America had Nixon and Watergate and Vietnam and all that stuff to deal with and there was
02:37a certain, I don't know if it's cynicism but skepticism or whatever that happened from
02:42that and it formed the character.
02:45So, they come up to Canada, you know, when they're casting, you know, American TV shows
02:50and movies to find the perfect middle American.
02:53That, the idyllic, you know, Michael J. Fox and people like that who grew up in Canada.
03:00It's a weird kind of phenomenon.
03:02I don't know if that answered your question but I'm making sound and that's the important
03:06thing.
03:07These times are not unusual.
03:09I mean, we tend to think that it's a crisis.
03:12We're always in a crisis.
03:13And the issues that bedevil us as human beings are constant.
03:18They're eternal.
03:19And they haven't changed since, you know, Socrates and Plato or any of the great Greek dramatists
03:24started to write about the human condition.
03:26You know, we're still wrestling with envy, pettiness, tribalism, you know.
03:33Our camp against yours and finding points of difference rather than points of commonality.
03:38And it's still the same old bag, unfortunately.
03:41The world's a mess and it's perfect.
03:48And someone left chewing gum under this seat.
03:51That's very, very naughty.
03:53Can you imagine doing that?
03:54They're chewing gum.
03:55I can't imagine anyone doing that.
03:57I'm an actor.
03:58I can't imagine, yeah.
03:59I'm an actor for you.
04:00He can't imagine a life refugee in America.
04:01I can't imagine anyone doing that.
04:02We just need that murder.
04:03And that's a great idea.
04:04Would you like to tell us all that by keeping somebody
04:11doing some tightك now?
04:16I do not know why not.
04:17Let's never forget Amelia sprung.
04:19And I'm confident that it can really be Random
04:23put together in theĂ©rience of Florida beck час.
