00:00What were you the god of again?
00:08Thor's become a wildly different character in Thor Ragnarok. He's actually super funny.
00:13Did I win?
00:17No, I won. Easily.
00:19And the shift seems to have paid off.
00:20Thor Ragnarok Out Friday currently sits at a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
00:25The last Thor installment, Thor The Dark World, has the lowest rating of any MCU film on either
00:31Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic.
00:33So, what's to thank for this tonal change from the other Thor movies?
00:36It just might be director Taika Waititi's background in character-focused comedies.
00:40The Hollywood Reporter's comic book movie destination Heat Vision recently spoke to Waititi
00:45about what it's like rebooting a Marvel franchise and his possible future return to the MCU.
00:50What inspired Waititi's take on Thor?
00:52Well, the director asked himself how a six-year-old would make it. Seriously.
00:56He said of the movie's psychedelic color palette,
00:59Basically, I just asked myself what a six-year-old would use to make a movie, and then did that.
01:03I just did every color we could think of and then tried to balance them.
01:07According to Waititi, the secret weapon to the film's tonal shift was letting Chris be more himself,
01:12because he is very funny and that was the part of Thor that was not exploited in the right ways.
01:16The director went on to say,
01:17According to the director, he approached rebooting the franchise like this.
01:42Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said that Marvel will definitely be working with Waititi in the future.
01:59The director says,
