00:00Straight from the briefing room, it's Sean Spicer!
00:05The announcement that Sean Spicer would be on this season of Dancing with the Stars
00:09sparked serious backlash. Now, the former White House press secretary is speaking out.
00:13Spicer will join the 28th season of the ABC reality competition show,
00:17alongside James Van Der Beek, Christie Brinkley, Bachelorette star Hannah Brown,
00:21and former NBA All-Star Lamar Odom, among others.
00:24The nice thing is Sean will be in charge of assessing audience size throughout the entire season.
00:29The Wednesday cast reveal on Good Morning America spawned major criticism of Dancing with the Stars,
00:34including a statement from host Tom Bergeron. He wrote on Twitter that he hoped the coming season
00:39would be free of inevitably divisive bookings from any party affiliations.
00:43Now, Spicer has responded. He told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday,
00:59other, engage in a real civil and respectful way, and maybe show millions of Americans
01:03how we can get back to that kind of interaction.
01:06ABC's only statement on the matter came from a show executive producer, which read,
01:10We've got a great and diverse cast. We are excited about the season.
