A video of Unnao Sadar police station inspector Uma Agarwal threatening a 60-year-old woman during a case inquiry has triggered major controversy. The incident occurred in Dakouli village, where Agarwal had gone to serve a notice in a dowry harassment case filed by Rinki, a resident of Banduhar village.
According to the viral clip, Agarwal is seen pointing her finger at the elderly woman and saying, “I’ll kick you so hard you’ll forget your face. I’m not your father’s servant.” The matter reached SP Jaiprakash Singh, who has ordered an inquiry under CO Deepak Yadav, stating that action will be taken based on the investigation report.
Rinki had lodged an FIR against her husband Amit Kumar and his family members for dowry harassment, prompting Agarwal to accompany her to the village on 28 November. An argument broke out between Agarwal and the accused woman’s mother-in-law, Chedana Devi, who alleged that police were forcing her to sign papers and misbehaving with her.
However, Kotwali police claim that when Agarwal reached the spot, villagers became aggressive and even attempted to attack Rinki. They said the viral video shows only a partial view of the incident and that Agarwal intervened to control the situation.
Villagers are now demanding that SI Uma Agarwal be immediately removed from duty and that an apology be issued to the elderly woman.
Inspector Agarwal has previously served at Kanshi Ram and Magarwara police posts and was earlier placed on the line for negligence before being posted at Sadar police station in March this year.
