00:00There are the riders of the gate all set to go.
00:1130-second board is up. The Gold Coast of Australia is known for its stunning beaches and incredible surf locations.
00:18Tonight it is where you will find the largest gathering of the best Supercross racers on the planet.
00:23They are here for one reason, the quest to be crowned world champion. Drop the gate!
00:30Headed off to the first corner and Anstey's on the inside of the 99. Can he ride his night?
00:36He's not going to get the whole shot.
00:40As you see the rest of the field, Cody Schoch coming through there, but Anstey is right up in the mix, Daniel.
00:45And that is how you back up what you did in qualifying in SuperPole.
00:49This is a tone-setting race for Enzo Lopes and a big opening lap for Max Anstey.
00:55Lopes out front of the number 16, riding for Rick Ware on the Yamaha.
00:59Chasing him is Max Anstey on that Team GSM machine.
01:05Different rhythms right there. Max gets that big triple. Enzo singled in.
01:08They come out the same, and here's the big test, and it will be all night long.
01:11All through the woods. Here we go. Lopes gets through there great. Anstey gets through there even better.
01:16And Cody Schoch and Shane McElrath do as well.
01:19McElrath squares up the next berm as they come over the finish line jump.
01:22McElrath inside. Here comes Anstey pushing on Lopes already. Inside. New leader. Yes. New leader here on the Gold Coast.
01:31And he didn't even wait. He didn't let for the race to settle down, let Enzo Lopes build a little confidence.
01:36He says, no, I need it right now. I'm going to take it. That was aggressive. Great move by the points leader.
01:42Every race that we've had this year in an SX2 category event, Max Anstey has won every single one of them.
01:50Eight laps, 12 laps, main events, premium races. Doesn't matter. He's won everything.
01:57Maximum points all the way across the board for Max Anstey in 2025.
02:01And this is a big moment for Enzo Lopes, too. You've been great in the whoops all night long.
02:05Can you pull it right now? Anstey a little quicker in, a little quicker out.
02:09And now you've got Lopes looking up behind him on his teammate Cody Schoch.
02:12That's not a good sign. And if you're Max Anstey, that little gap that you've got allows you to take the lines that you want.
02:18Look at McElrath. Here comes McElrath trying to make a move, but guess what?
02:21Cody Schoch takes advantage of it on the 69, and he will be back in front of McElrath.
02:28And these are your top four in points, so seeing him up front is not surprising.
02:32But the order's a little bit different than we've seen this year.
02:35Shane McElrath has had a tough go as your defending champ.
02:38He had body issues at round one, bike issues at round two, but he looks better tonight.
02:42Keep an eye on the 43 back behind them, the red bike.
02:46That's Cullen Park, who just missed out on Super Bowl by, what, a hundredth of a second?
02:51Something like that. And here he is in fifth and closing.
02:55And the guy that he's been battling with all season long, Cole Thompson, is two spots back behind him.
03:01Maxime Desprez between the two.
03:03Here's McElrath looking inside as Schoch takes the spot away, and McElrath moves up into the top three.
03:09And I think we're seeing the passing spots on this track.
03:12It's after the whoops, after the finish, and in the first quarter.
03:15Those are the 180s. Oh, look at Schoch coming back up the inside.
03:18Cody Schoch up the inside.
03:21McElrath trying to find a way to defend it.
03:24He gets a pretty good drive off the corner.
03:26Hugs to the inside.
03:28Great side-by-side battle, but Schoch is a little quicker off the corner and into the wall jump.
03:32That was great defense by Cody Schoch.
03:35Jay McElrath wanted to get him back in that right-handed 180.
03:38Schoch gave him nowhere to go.
03:39But now, look, Colin Parks joined the party.
03:42Yeah, as we said, all that fighting between McElrath and Schoch has allowed Park to close right in.
03:56McElrath right along the top blocks as he blitzes through the whoops.
04:00He was very quick through there.
04:01Yeah, last lap he was closer, so he had the chance to make the pass.
04:04This lap he was a little further behind, but you saw Enzo Lopes having a little issue there.
04:08Where Anstey is really starting to check on these guys in that section en route.
04:13We talk about the starts and the speed, but Anstey's been great in the whoops too.
04:16We're seeing it now early in sprint race one.
04:22Shane McElrath, the reigning SX2 champion.
04:27Oh, McElrath way loose, and Park gets by. Park clips the top blocks.
04:32And that'll give McElrath a chance to come back, but he can't get it done through that rhythm lane.
04:37And Cullen Park moves himself up to fourth.
04:40And the reigning champ slips back another spot in frustration.
04:44And that's how quick things can change.
04:46Remember, two laps ago, he's playing offense.
04:48He's looking for a way around Schoch.
04:50One mistake turns to two, and the next thing you know, you're on defense.
04:53And then the big mistake lets Cullen Park by.
04:55And now for Cullen, you've got a free run at Cody Schoch.
04:58What can you do with a little open track?
05:00Well, and it also continues the problems for Shane McElrath, who had physical issues at the opener in Argentina.
05:07Mechanical issues in Vancouver.
05:10And today, I don't know, what would you call it, Daniel? Just riding issues?
05:14Yeah, little mistake.
05:15I mean, one turns to two, and that happens as a racer.
05:17When you make a bobble, it's hard to recover, get back on pace.
05:20And then when you make the second one, you start second-guessing.
05:23That leads to a third mistake, and it's really hard to recover.
05:27The rider who's making no mistakes is Max Anstey.
05:30And this is why that pass on lap one was so important.
05:32He's been able to ride somewhat free since then.
05:35And if he would have settled into Lopes' pace, this could be a completely different race.
05:39But he did what he needed to do early.
05:41Max Anstey was crowned champion of the SX2 category in 2023.
05:46He is well on his way to his 16th race win in SX2 competition in his career.
05:55McElrath sitting here in fifth.
05:58This one winding down quickly, scheduled for eight laps, ten points up for grabs.
06:03And even though Max had issues in qualifying and Super Bowl,
06:07he's looking to be perfect still in race competition.
06:10And I've got to point out, the track looks good compared to what we saw in qualifying.
06:14They got some moisture in, they worked it in, but it's still slick.
06:18And it might even be a tougher type of slick because that little bit of water they put on,
06:22it might take a race before it really works itself in.
06:25So you see these mistakes.
06:26These are coming from maybe a little bit of a false impression on what that dirt looks like
06:30and what it really feels like.
06:32Here's one of the spots Anstey's so good as he rips across the top of the woods.
06:36Yeah, it's the entry speed.
06:38I mean, when you come in that committed, that trusting, that fast,
06:41you just carry your way out.
06:42I saw Lopes make a little mistake here and there, and that's all from the entry speed.
06:46And Max, that confidence, we've seen it from A to Z.
06:49Everything he's doing this year is just on another level.
06:51And the best battle on the racetrack is coming up right here.
06:54It's a fight for third between the 69 and the Rick Ware Racing Arby's Back Machines of Cody Shock,
07:01and closing in on him fast is the Moto Concepts Racing entry, the number 43 of Colin Park,
07:06as we are on the final lap here in the opening race of the day at the Australian GP.
07:12And we've been talking all week.
07:14Colin Park's riding has not matched the results, but it's been from issues outside of his control.
07:19A big second place finish in the first race of the year, and then issue after issue after issue.
07:24So this is a big bounce back and a rebound for Colin Park.
07:27Here's Max charging at you once again.
07:32To the finish line, Jeff, and Max Anstey gets career race victory number 16,
07:39with two more possibly getting added to that total here tonight,
07:43as we get set for race two and three in a little bit in SX2 competition.
07:49Lopes, Shock, Park, McElrath, the top five in SX2 race number one,
07:55as we finish this one off with Wageman coming across the line in 11.
08:03Now Max Anstey, we've seen this picture every time we've had a race in World Supercross competition in 2025 at the end.
08:11The winner, Max Anstey.
08:14So let's take a look at the full page results of this one.
08:17Confirmation of how they crossed the line here tonight in race one.
08:22Here it comes.
08:23Anstey, the Brazilian Lopes, and then it's Shock, Park, and McElrath in the top five.
08:29Desprey, Thompson, Hicks, Chisholm, and Peters rounding out the top ten here in race.
08:35Great tea!
