01:00Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Sophie Fernández from the Telesor Studios in Havana,
01:05Cuba. We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:17U.S. President Donald Trump was against interfering the Honduran election process, this time demanding
01:29votes for the opposing national party and promising to pardon former President Juan Orlando Hernández,
01:34who was convicted of their trafficking. In a segment made via the social network The Truth Social,
01:42the President also made international aid and cooperation conditional on the victory of the
01:47national party candidate Nazarías Fura, which violates the fundamental principles of international law.
01:53Trump also announced that he would grant a full and complete pardon to former President Juan Orlando Hernández,
01:59who is currently facing a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking and corruption. This episode is the latest in a campaign
02:07of interference by the international right wing to pressure from the victory of the two party system in the November 3 elections.
02:37In Honduras, the government carries out a social program of energy subsidies to cover 100% of the electricity
02:51service bill, expenses benefiting a large number of low-income families. From Tegucigalpa City, our journalist Roberto
03:00has told us all the details.
03:07In the last four years, poverty in Honduras reduced by 9%. Thanks to social programs, this country's government affirms.
03:15In a Tegucigalpa neighborhood, we met Gladys Hernández, who earns her living selling tortillas. She represents one of nearly one million households that don't pay electricity.
03:25At least that money that was paid is no longer paid, because my daughter paid up to $1,500. She paid a lot.
03:36And now we save that? And now we don't pay anymore.
03:40Do they use that now for food? Yes, for the food.
03:45Pisaela Cisaguere is from the Third Age and also benefits from the program, and with satisfaction, shows us
03:54the zero bill. Before, when the previous governments were there, I paid more than 1,000 lempiras for electricity, and I didn't have anything.
04:01Because the most I have is everything I have here. I have the receipt there. Look, the receipt that is zero. I have it up there. My receipt comes out zero.
04:13The beneficiaries are the most vulnerable households, households, housewives, farmers, and workers, among others. Their monthly consumption doesn't exceed 150 kilowatts. Josue says these savings have impacted his family economy.
04:30That money now helps us buy other things. It's of great benefit for the poor families of the Florida Ocampo community. Like me, there are many who don't pay electricity thanks to that subsidy that President Xiomara Castro is giving.
04:49They even feel fear that another government comes and takes away these help so evidently necessary for them.
04:56This executive from the State National Electricity Company affirms that the free energy program is driven with state funds, and that it alleviates to some measure the economy of the most needy households nationwide.
05:14This program has been able to benefit more than 900,000 families nationwide who at this moment don't pay energy, who in the times of the narco dictatorship had to pay for energy.
05:29There was a totally mercantile treatment of the families, cutting off their energy in a gross way.
05:34And now, with this program, that money they used to allocate for energy payment, now people can allocate it to the education of their children, to the food of their children, to medicines, or also to recreational activities.
05:53In four years, the budget for energy subsidies, seeking to reach more low-income households.
06:06There are subsidies allocated to fuels, energy, gas too, that we use for cooking, that here in our country we call gas chimps.
06:20More than 20,000 million lempiras to attend all these subsidy programs, and that come from taxes, from the rational use of the tributes that the majority of Hondurans make.
06:29But the energy subsidy program is not the only one benefiting the vulnerable family of this Central American country.
06:43They also tell us there are subsidies for liquefied gas and also for fuels nationwide.
06:48Without doubt, there are programs that benefit Honduras' most vulnerable families.
06:54I am Roberto Hugo Presa, and this was another program from here, from Tegucigalpa, of the series Honduras in Movement.
07:03Until next time.
07:06Moving on to the United States.
07:08The Philadelphia International Airport resumed operations after a bomb threat alert that was resolved without incident.
07:15According to authorities, the United States Federal Administration issued a warning to suspend airport operations on the ground,
07:23citing the existence of a expensive explosive device.
07:27As explained by a police spokesperson, the situation required the assistance of the Philadelphia police on board of the aircraft.
07:34The agency noted that approximately 30 minutes after the suspension, the security incident was resolved and operations resumed.
07:42And now we have a short break coming up.
