00:00We are here with the Male Vocalist of the Year, Cody Johnson.
00:03I mean, it's a night of breaking records.
00:05You took Chris Stapleton's crown.
00:09How does that feel to be among such good company and rise above?
00:14Two greatest moments of the night.
00:16Winning this, knowing that Chris Stapleton was nominated for it.
00:20I have all the respect in the world for that man and his abilities.
00:23And walking through the hall and George Strait stopping what he was doing to say hello.
00:27And I think that that's cooler than any award, honestly.
00:33A hundred percent.
00:34And I mean, that's such a cool.
00:36Only that could happen at the CMAs.
00:38Yeah, it was one of those moments where you're like, well, if I don't win anything at this point, I think that just happened.
00:44Right. A hundred percent.
00:45I mean, that's a win for me, right?
00:47And you have had such an incredible year.
00:49You just welcomed a baby boy.
00:51Congratulations.
00:52Congratulations.
00:52I mean, how does it motivate you, you know, with your children to see, you know, their dad doing such incredible things?
00:58So my kids don't look at me on TV.
01:00And tonight was the first night because they're getting older.
01:02My daughters are 10 and 8.
01:04And, Dad, we watched you on TV.
01:06But that's like the first time in their entire lives that they've ever actually recognized that dad's on TV.
01:11Something's happening, yeah.
01:12Right.
01:13When I go home, I'm just dad.
01:15We hunt.
01:16We fish.
01:16We ride horses.
01:17We do schoolwork.
01:18We go to volleyball.
01:20You know, I coach softball.
01:22And so we have a very different relationship at home.
01:24They don't really recognize this the way that I do.
01:27Right.
01:28The way I look at something like this is job security because, in my mind, biblically, a man is supposed to go out and provide for his wife and his family.
01:36And thank God I get to do that.
01:38Oh, my God.
01:39And it's so incredible.
01:40And, again, the show doesn't stop for you.
01:42You're headlining stagecoach in the spring.
01:45I mean, you've been there before.
01:46What's it like now coming in as a headliner and what can fans expect?
01:49It's just, for me, it's so cool because not only did I get to open for Luke Combs, one of my best buddies, and kind of get the introductory thing to it, but I got to see Joe Diffie before he passed away.
02:00Oh, my gosh.
02:01And it was one of the coolest concerts I've ever seen.
02:03The man stood in one spot and entertained a crowd like you would never believe.
02:08And I was like, this is a country music clinic.
02:11And, unfortunately, we lost Joe.
02:14And having that memory of stagecoach and getting to go back into it and know that I'm getting to headline it, it's such an iconic festival.
02:21It means the world to me.
02:22Fresh off a master class, essentially.
02:23Right, right.
02:24Well, congratulations, Cody.
02:26I'm so happy for you.
02:27So well-deserved.
02:28And congratulations on your continued success.
