Riley Green caught up with Rania Aniftos on the Winners Walk at the CMA Awards 2025.
Transcript
00:00We're here with one of the big winners of the night, Riley Green.
00:03I mean, come on, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Music Video of the Year,
00:08all for You Look Like You Love Me.
00:10I mean, what's it like being able to share this moment with Ella,
00:12who's been such, you know, a powerful collaborator with you all these years?
00:17I can't really think of a collaboration that's done what this song has done.
00:21And it's been so cool because I'm such a big fan of her,
00:23and obviously we're really close and become really great friends.
00:25And her being from Alabama, you know, I'm always kind of rooting for her anyway.
00:29And, you know, we had two really big songs together with You Like You Love Me
00:33and Don't Mind If I Do, and we got to play both of them on the road together
00:36for the better part of two years, and that doesn't happen often.
00:39So it's really cool to have a song like this that just doesn't want to go away.
00:42I know. She said it even in the acceptance speech.
00:44She's like, it's just the gift that keeps on giving.
00:46It really is, yeah. I had no idea this song would be what it is,
00:49and I had no idea they'd be around as long as it has, but I'm certainly not upset about it.
00:54I mean, yeah, and also, I mean, you also mentioned in your speech that you love a song
00:59with a spoken word verse.
01:01Is there one that you think of maybe growing up that stuck out to you,
01:04that started your love of spoken word on a song?
01:07Well, it was a bunch of Chris LaDue songs, and, you know, you got George and Tammy, Conway,
01:14and, I mean, that's what they did back then.
01:16Those duets were like you could just say it.
01:18You know, they were so cool.
01:19It was overt, like passionate, like just telling people you love them on track.
01:22It was pretty bold that we even tried it, but it certainly worked out for us.
01:26Yeah, I mean, 100%.
01:27I mean, looking forward, you have a lot of great stuff coming up.
01:29In addition to your arena tour, which we talked about earlier,
01:32you're also planning in the spring to go over to military bases in Hawaii and Japan
01:36to perform for the troops.
01:38Why was that so important for you?
01:40Well, my granddaddy's both served in the military.
01:42It's always been something that's close to my heart,
01:43but, you know, it was probably inspired more than anything by Toby Keith.
01:47I remember, you know, when I was just a fan of country music,
01:50and after 9-11, he spent a lot of time in Afghanistan and Iraq
01:53and all that playing for military bases for people that can't come home for the holidays.
01:57And I have more respect for him now probably than ever
02:00because I know how valuable your time off is because we don't have very much of it.
02:04And for him to spend it over there doing that is pretty special.
02:07So it routed well.
02:09We're going to Australia, so we're going to swing through there on the way back
02:11and play for some heroes.
02:13Yeah, and, I mean, beautiful locations too.
02:15I mean, it's so great, and no one deserves this more.
02:18Congratulations, Riley.
02:18I'm so happy for you.
02:19Thank you very much.
