00:01Yeah, it's a few hours ago.
00:04Do you know of anybody who would have wanted to do harm to Bill?
00:08Conniting, vindictive, underhanded.
00:12It was just life, life, life.
00:17We have a murder now that had been planned, and everybody had a job.
00:21She goes, we might need him taken out.
00:24She picked young, impressionable people and groomed everyone involved.
00:29I was so used to just doing for her without thinking.
00:34That broke me.
00:36My heart just hurts so much for her.
00:39She was basically just a puppet.
00:41She found her weakness, and then she played on his emotions.
00:44What kind of monster would rope their own child into committing murder?
00:599-1-1.
01:06What's your problem?
01:08The man's laying on the ground in the middle of the driveway.
01:10I think he's dead.
01:13I'm not going to touch him or nothing.
01:14I'm not going to even open the gate.
01:17All right.
01:18I'll get an EMS and Sheriff and Ralph.
01:21This is not a normal call that Scott County deputies encounter on their daily patrols.
01:32It's an isolated location, and the house is positioned down a lane, tucked back in a wooded area.
01:37When officers arrive, there is a chain-link fence with a gate.
01:45Beyond that gate, we located a male individual on his back.
01:49Apparently gunshot wound to the head.
01:53The victim was identified as Bill Reynolds.
01:56He was 69 years old.
01:59There was some blood in his mouth and on the ground.
02:02It was very unusual to find the body the way it was, out in the open.
02:08There was two dogs.
02:09One was on his chest, and the other one was licking his ear.
02:13It was a disturbing scene.
02:18Whenever officers arrive on a scene like that, oftentimes they wait to move the body.
02:26The coroner was called, and when Bill Reynolds was moved, there was nothing there.
02:32They were checking for any type of weapon that would indicate suicide.
02:37There was no gun found in or around the body, and there was no shell casings.
02:42When none was found, they determined it to be a homicide.
02:51This is a farming community.
02:53Everybody knows everybody.
02:57Bill seemed like just any old country folk from Scott County.
03:02He was a family man, and he liked to work on vehicles and tinker with cars.
03:07So who would want to do this to Bill Reynolds?
03:10Who has the means, the motive, and the ability?
03:13I got the call, and I broke down crying and screaming.
03:28My brother's frantic, says, Henry, we've got to go to Dad's.
03:32We've got to go now.
03:32Something's happened.
03:33When we get to the residence, we could see an individual laying there at the fence.
03:47So we walked up to get a little closer to the fence, and we knew that was our dad.
03:54It was a pretty messed up scene.
04:08The next move from the investigation is to start collecting evidence, and we'll try to get a timeline established.
04:15Authorities quickly start canvassing the area, talking to people to find out what could have occurred.
04:23This really caused investigators to hit a brick wall.
04:28It appears as though Bill Reynolds was shot in broad daylight, without any witnesses or anyone around.
04:33It's so strange.
04:38We were interviewed by the police.
04:40They didn't tell us a whole lot, other than, you know, our dad was possibly shot execution-style in the head with a firearm.
04:49We had nothing at that point.
04:51It's a complete whodunit.
05:03Dad had a big heart.
05:07He did his best to show us as much love as he possibly could.
05:13I just know that.
05:14He was a good guy.
05:16He'd do anything for you.
05:18He was 18 years old when he was drafted to the Vietnam War.
05:22So my dad had seen things in his lifetime that most people aren't going to see.
05:26When dad came back from Vietnam, he liked kind of the extravagant lifestyle.
05:34I think it kind of made him feel alive.
05:39He loved automobiles.
05:42Corvettes, Mustangs, I mean, he had them all.
05:46Here's one of his cars.
05:47He called that, remember he called that the Black Angel?
05:49Yeah.
05:50And there was the old Cobra, Mustang Cobra.
05:52He'd also had a NASCAR memorabilia collection that was like no other that I've ever seen.
06:02You name it, he had it.
06:13Dad came over to my house and told me,
06:16I've met this lady.
06:17I'd like for you to meet her.
06:18Her name is Daylene.
06:20It was love at first sight.
06:26She put on the charm, and he said he couldn't resist.
06:33Dad seemed to be happy.
06:35Daylene was his next chapter in life.
06:38He was excited about that.
06:39Soon after Bill met Daylene, she moved into his residence, along with her grandchildren, Amaris and Michael.
06:49Their mother is Johnetta Hall.
06:55Johnetta was a truck driver, so Daylene was taking care of the grandchildren while Johnetta worked.
06:59My dad opened up his arms totally and accepted Michael and Amaris as part of being with Daylene.
07:10You could tell he loved Michael, and he loved Amaris, too.
07:13They had a good relationship.
07:16She looked up to Bill, the dad.
07:18I think she just craved having someone care about her the right way.
07:26So Bill took on a family that really needed his attention, and his kind heart stepped right in.
07:37Dad and Daylene were married about a couple of years before Dad got some bad news.
07:52He told me he had to go in for esophagus cancer surgery, and they didn't give him a real high percentage to make it through this.
08:00What I gathered from the investigation, that cancer, I believe, took a toll on their marriage.
08:11I never saw Daylene come to the hospital to see him.
08:16It seemed to me like Daylene was worried about Daylene.
08:22We found out that during Bill's hospital stay, Daylene became power of attorney for Bill.
08:27Bill also claimed that Daylene put the titles to his home and his vehicles in her name.
08:36Here's a man dying and going through cancer treatment.
08:40Why would you do something like that?
08:46Dad makes it through to the esophagus surgery and gets out.
08:49We're excited that he gets to continue on with his life.
08:51Bill comes home from the hospital and says he's shocked to find all of his belongings out on the back porch.
09:00What's going on here? Why is this happening?
09:04I'm sure it was a heart pill to swallow.
09:08I gave you a home. I gave you my heart.
09:13That's heartless.
09:14You could tell it tore him up.
09:19He cried a couple times.
09:21I mean, it's just a sad, sad situation.
09:28I took him down to Scott County Courthouse.
09:30He filed for a divorce.
09:33And then he immediately moved in with my brother.
09:35Once my dad left the house, Daylene's daughter, Janetta, moved in with her mom to help during the divorce proceedings.
09:48It pretty much was a takeover.
09:54For about a year, there was arguing and bickering going on over who was going to get the house.
09:58Amaris would talk about her grandma and Bill fighting and stressing her out.
10:07It wasn't pleasant for her.
10:15Eventually, through the divorce proceeding, Bill Reynolds was awarded the marital residence.
10:20It meant that Daylene, Janetta, Michael, and Amaris had to vacate the property and move out into a small, single, wide trailer.
10:32Dad was excited to get back.
10:34I mean, that's where he had all of his belongings.
10:36But when we opened the door, it was an absolute disaster.
10:41Every room in this house smells of bad dogs.
10:46Stereo says $3, $3, brand new box, gone.
10:48The animals had peed in there.
10:51You know, they did their business in there.
10:54Dogs, whoopie, on the floor.
10:56The smell hit us in the face so strong that it would almost make you throw up.
11:01It was awful.
11:04They made sure that when they left, that this place was going to be pretty much unlivable.
11:09It looked like a bomb has went off.
11:15Diapers all over the place.
11:18Why can't people be so goddamn hateful in me?
11:23Them dad noticed something that was sitting in his chair.
11:29And he picked up this can.
11:32And on the front of that can, it said gun oil.
11:37It was placed there intentionally.
11:39And my dad's first reaction when he turned around to look at us is,
11:43they're going to kill me.
11:46September 27th was supposed to be Bill Reynolds' first night back in his residence.
12:02He had spent days cleaning the house after the place was left in a state of filth.
12:08But Bill was killed that day.
12:10I was angry and I just stayed silent for a long time.
12:23Bill did not deserve any of that.
12:27As part of the investigation, you want to find out where people were at the time of the murder.
12:39And anytime you have knowledge of a nasty divorce, the first person you're going to speak to is the wife.
12:48We traveled to Daylene's house and informed her that we had found Bill deceased.
13:00Daylene was not very friendly.
13:02And she did not seem surprised.
13:04One thing that I found very odd was that she had a lot of cleaning chemicals out.
13:13The first thought through your mind is that she's trying to conceal evidence of a crime.
13:21Daylene was asked if she owned any firearms.
13:27She explained that she did own a .38 revolver, but she hadn't seen it in some time.
13:34When we asked Daylene if she shot Bill, she made a very unusual statement that raised the hair on the back of your neck.
13:48She said, it would have been more personal if I killed him.
13:53I would have stabbed him or I would have beat him with a bat.
13:57Suspicion started to rise.
14:00We asked her about her whereabouts on that day.
14:03She explained that her and her daughter, Johnnetta, had been cleaning.
14:07But that Johnnetta had stepped out to go get some groceries and had left around 2 p.m.
14:12That was the same time we had found Bill deceased.
14:17Some neighbors verified Daylene's story that she, in fact, had been there all day cleaning.
14:23Daylene Cates' alibi checks out, but at that stage, anything is still open, and we're not ruling out any suspects.
14:35There is a good way of getting a divorce, and then there is a bad way of getting a divorce.
14:48And to be underhanded, that's basically what Daylene did.
15:00Daylene was very dominating.
15:04She always had to have things her way.
15:07Whatever she said went, and that was it.
15:13Her daughter, Johnnetta, was also very angry through this divorce.
15:20Explosively angry.
15:21She was writing to all her friends on Facebook.
15:30How could Bill move her son, her daughter, and her mother out of a home?
15:37This is how the judicial system here works.
15:41I don't think so.
15:42Johnnetta was very aggressive.
15:48She just seemed like she was a very confrontational individual.
15:54You know how they say, like, father, like son?
15:57Well, this is like mother, like daughter.
16:00Because they had the same personality, the same characteristics.
16:05It was crazy.
16:06It became important that we speak with Johnnetta
16:11because of the time frame that she left Daylene's house
16:14kind of lining up with the time frame that we found Bill Reynolds in the driveway.
16:17Johnnetta seemed very collected, calm, cool.
16:38She didn't really inquire what the investigation was about.
16:41She just sat there.
16:42Bill's trying to be dead today.
16:44Huh?
16:46Yeah.
16:47When she was notified that Bill was dead,
16:54she never once asked how Bill died.
16:57That was not of any interest of her.
17:00I found that extremely odd.
17:02Do you know of anybody who would have wanted to do harm to Bill?
17:06I don't really get all into Bill's business
17:09as far as, you know, who and what he knows.
17:12Her demeanor and her attitude is just extremely odd to me.
17:18Something's not right.
17:1930, what did you do after King and you got up today?
17:23Uh, my normal.
17:26I got coffee, cigarette, and let's see, cleaning the house.
17:31I left the house and I went up to the Austin Storage Express.
17:36I went up there and then put a rug in.
17:38Oh, and I got bread over at the gas station.
17:42Which one?
17:43Um, right there.
17:45Whatever it is, that circle K?
17:47Mm-hmm.
17:47Yeah.
17:48I bought bread and then went up there
17:52and I'm just driving around trying to get myself lost.
17:55I was doing a really good job of it, too.
17:58That just seemed odd to me.
18:00Why would you go buy groceries to take home
18:02and then go take a several-hour drive
18:04to try to get yourself lost?
18:06Is she trying to displace herself from the crime scene?
18:10We asked her,
18:11do you have anything that shows
18:13that you were at the Circle K at that time?
18:18Do you have a receipt from there?
18:24Actually, I don't know.
18:28Oh.
18:30There it is.
18:33She's pretty quick to provide a receipt
18:35to verify her whereabouts at that time.
18:38So she did have an alibi
18:40in the time frame of Bill Reynolds' death.
18:46We then asked,
18:47was you with anybody?
18:49She said, no, I was not with anybody.
18:53Janetta's alibi checks out.
18:55So police release her,
18:57even though they're still very suspicious.
19:01We still want to verify her story.
19:03So we requested the surveillance footage
19:05from the storage facility
19:06and at the Circle K.
19:12And this is where the investigation
19:14started to take a major twist.
19:15We were able to verify
19:18through surveillance footage
19:20that Janetta indeed was at the storage facility
19:22and at the Circle K
19:23on the date in question.
19:26But one thing she left out,
19:28she was not alone.
19:30Investigators are piecing together
19:40Janetta's movements
19:41on the day of Bill's murder.
19:43We want to verify
19:44Janetta's story.
19:46And that's when we really started
19:47to uncover that Janetta
19:49was not being truthful with us.
19:50On the surveillance footage
19:54from the storage facility,
19:56Janetta is met by another vehicle
19:59that has two young men in it.
20:01Why is a woman 40 years old
20:03hanging out of a storage facility
20:04with two young male individuals
20:06half her age?
20:08Who are these guys?
20:09Why did she not want us to know
20:13who those two individuals were?
20:18They're taking items
20:19out of the storage unit,
20:20placing them into the vehicle.
20:22And then one of the male individuals
20:24obtained something
20:25from the passenger side
20:26and placed it in her vehicle.
20:28That was extremely odd.
20:31Janetta is supposed to be
20:32dropping off items
20:33at the storage facility
20:34when in fact
20:35she was taking them out.
20:36this raised suspicion.
20:39It really did.
20:40In what would be considered
20:41a good break for law enforcement,
20:43the vehicle that was driven
20:44by the two young males
20:46was parked perfectly
20:49under a surveillance camera
20:50where a great shot
20:51of the license plate
20:52could be detected.
20:56That plate came back
20:57to an individual
20:58named Jacob Mathis.
21:06Jacob did not seem
21:25to be comfortable
21:25being interviewed.
21:26While you were at
21:29the storage facility,
21:30who was with you there?
21:31It was me,
21:32my roommate,
21:33and his girlfriend.
21:35We've now identified
21:36individuals that were
21:37associated with Janetta
21:39on the day of Bill's death
21:40and we need to know
21:41why they were with her.
21:42And we came to you
21:43for a reason, okay?
21:46But we need you to tell us
21:48who your roommate is.
21:51He asked me not to give his name.
21:52When Jacob Mathis refuses
21:56to give police information,
21:58even as something
21:58as simple as a name,
22:00investigators kind of
22:02start looking his way
22:03and thinking,
22:04okay, something's
22:05not adding up here.
22:20Jacob accidentally slipped
22:22and said the name Carrie
22:23and the fear on his face
22:26when he realized
22:27he'd done that
22:27really let us know
22:29that we're onto
22:29something here.
22:31Carrie's my roommate.
22:34What's his last name?
22:35Yield.
22:38There's a dynamic here
22:39that they want to conceal
22:40from us
22:41and we need to know why.
22:49Carrie was located
22:50and brought in
22:51for questioning.
22:52Okay.
22:53Sound right here for me.
22:55Right there.
22:57I'm probably wondering
22:58why you're here.
22:59Yeah, a little bit.
23:01He seemed like a guy
23:02that was not worried
23:03about being questioned
23:04by the police.
23:05How old are you, man?
23:0622.
23:08Don't be intimidated
23:10by my way up here
23:11and stuff.
23:12I'm not sure.
23:12It doesn't intimidate anybody.
23:15Initially,
23:16he denies being
23:18in Scott County
23:18on the date
23:19of Bill's murder.
23:21But when confronted
23:22with some of the stuff
23:23we saw
23:24in the surveillance footage,
23:25that's when the interview
23:27started to break down.
23:30He began to explain
23:31to us
23:31his relationship
23:32with Johnnetta.
23:33just asked me
23:35if I would
23:35make quick cash.
23:37She thought
23:38that I had tattoos
23:39and piercings
23:39so that that's
23:40the kind of person
23:41I was.
23:45Tell us what happened.
23:46He revealed that
24:09there were several meetings
24:10that took place
24:10with Johnnetta
24:11when she asked him
24:12what will it take
24:13to kill Bill Reynolds?
24:14To have a 20-year-old
24:21individual
24:22explain to you
24:22that he was
24:23hired to commit murder
24:24was very,
24:26very evil,
24:27twisted,
24:28and vile.
24:28It didn't make sense.
24:43She was an
24:44over-the-road truck driver
24:45who seldom was home.
24:47Where on earth
24:47is Johnnetta
24:48getting this kind of money?
24:51We discovered
24:52Bill had an infatuation
24:53with NASCAR memorabilia,
24:55and he began
24:56an impressive collection.
24:57A lot of people
25:01have investments
25:02in stock.
25:04Bill's investment
25:05was NASCAR.
25:11Anything NASCAR
25:12I think the man has,
25:15I called him
25:16a hoarder
25:16of NASCAR.
25:19There's a lot
25:20of money here.
25:21His collection
25:22was estimated
25:23to be worth
25:24in the hundreds
25:25of thousands
25:25of dollars.
25:28You're going to get
25:29$100,000
25:29for that NASCAR stuff?
25:33I was going to
25:33help her sell them all.
25:36I'm thinking,
25:37there's no way.
25:38There's no way.
25:41For Bill's NASCAR
25:42collection
25:42to be the payment
25:43for someone
25:44to commit murder,
25:45unbelievable.
25:47The one thing
25:48Bill loved the most
25:49in life
25:49was going to be
25:50the cause
25:50of his demise.
25:51It's so sad.
25:52It really is sad.
25:57We learned
25:58that after the murder,
26:00Johnetta Hall meets
26:01Carrie and Jacob
26:02at the storage facility.
26:05They're transferring
26:06the NASCAR items
26:07from the storage unit
26:08into their vehicle.
26:13They had agreed
26:14that they would
26:14share in the proceeds.
26:19What kind of conversation
26:20took it between you
26:21and Johnetta
26:23when you got
26:23to the storage facility?
26:24She told me
26:25not to worry about it
26:26just to get everything
26:27packed into the car.
26:29And then while
26:30we were packing it,
26:31she told me to move
26:32the gun to her car
26:34that she would take
26:36care of everything else.
26:39We have a murder now
26:40that had been planned
26:41and everybody had a job.
26:43But we still need
26:44to know
26:45how they all
26:45knew each other.
26:49That's when things
26:50get really weird.
26:54Carrie makes
26:54a revelation
26:55to investigators.
26:58He says he knows
26:59Johnetta Hall
27:00through her daughter,
27:02his girlfriend,
27:03Amaris.
27:05This is a new development.
27:07Now we're starting
27:08to connect some
27:08dots.
27:19My favorite,
27:20absolute favorite picture
27:21of him to me
27:23is just,
27:23that's Carrie.
27:25I might be biased,
27:26but I think
27:26he's a good looking kid.
27:29In this picture,
27:30he's 21.
27:31And this is about
27:32the time that he
27:33started hanging out
27:33with Amaris
27:34and Johnetta.
27:39My first impression
27:40of her was
27:41she is not his type.
27:44When I met her,
27:45she was just trying
27:45to impress.
27:47I mean,
27:48she wasn't disrespectful.
27:49She didn't have a,
27:50you know,
27:51snarled look.
27:52Nothing like that.
27:53I mean,
27:53she was fine.
27:53I just looked at her
27:57as a fly-by-night.
27:58She was going to come
27:59and go and be gone.
28:01Boy,
28:01was I wrong.
28:10During this interview,
28:12Carrie indicated
28:12in law enforcement
28:13that it wasn't just him
28:15and Jacob Mathis
28:15involved in this plot
28:16with Johnetta Hall.
28:19There was a fourth
28:20person involved.
28:23How many more turns
28:24can we take
28:25on this investigation?
28:36We're in the wee hours
28:37of the morning now,
28:38and it was important
28:39that we did not stop
28:40at this point
28:40because we just kept
28:41uncovering untruths
28:43and more information.
28:45How much knowledge
28:46does Amaris have in this?
28:48She knows that it happened.
28:50She knows you pulled
28:51the trigger, too.
28:52Yeah.
28:54I was like,
28:54wow.
28:56We realized that
28:57Amaris Bunyard
28:57was a lot more
28:58than just Johnetta's
28:59daughter and Carrie's
29:00girlfriend.
29:03Amaris Bunyard
29:04was also involved
29:05in this murder.
29:07Can you imagine
29:08a mother and daughter
29:09murder duo?
29:10That's just crazy.
29:10It's outrageous.
29:16We brought
29:17Amaris Bunyard
29:17in for an interview.
29:19You need a water?
29:21No, I'm going to have
29:22a free time.
29:23Thank you, though.
29:24Cool.
29:26Okay.
29:29Why don't you tell us
29:30everything
29:32about this situation?
29:36Amaris
29:36was very cooperative.
29:38she realized
29:39that we knew
29:40she was involved
29:41and then she
29:43began to tell us
29:44exactly what happened.
29:46Well, Mom asked me
29:47to tell Carrie
29:47and Jacob
29:48that she wanted
29:49to talk to him.
29:50She goes,
29:50I might need help
29:51handling Bill
29:52and we might need
29:54him taken out.
29:56I mean,
29:56there's a shock factor
29:57when you hear it.
29:59At that point,
30:00I looked at her
30:01and I just,
30:03I said,
30:03okay,
30:04because I didn't know
30:05what else to say.
30:06I was kind of
30:07in shock.
30:13She told us
30:14that several meetings
30:16took place
30:16at her apartment
30:17for the planning
30:19of the murder.
30:23I wanted to leave
30:25the meeting,
30:26but I felt like
30:27I was,
30:28I was stuck
30:29and I was rooted there
30:30and I couldn't.
30:33Amaris told me
30:34a lot about the fact
30:35that when she
30:36was growing up,
30:36her mom wasn't around.
30:38I mean,
30:38it always hurts
30:39feeling like
30:41you're not wanted
30:41by a parent.
30:44If somebody
30:45who isn't around
30:46finally starts
30:47coming around
30:47and giving you
30:48attention,
30:48then you're more
30:49likely to give them
30:50things that they want.
30:54We find out
30:55Johnnetta provided
30:56the weapon,
30:58.38 Special Revolver.
31:00It was given
31:01to Amaris
31:02at Daylene's house
31:03covertly.
31:04She wrapped
31:06the gun up
31:07in a blanket
31:07and she handed
31:08it to me.
31:09Janetta gives
31:10Amaris the gun
31:11to commit the crime.
31:13It's a very
31:14twisted situation.
31:15She would set that
31:16in your purse
31:16so your grandmother
31:17doesn't see.
31:18And I thought
31:19that was weird,
31:20but I went with it.
31:22Amaris took her purse
31:23then out to the car
31:24that her and Carrie
31:24were driving,
31:25and that's how Carrie
31:26obtained the firearm
31:27to kill Bill Reynolds.
31:27Bill was made out
31:57to be an evil
31:58human being
31:59to Amaris
31:59by Johnnetta.
32:02She had convinced
32:03her that this
32:04was what was needed
32:05to make their life
32:06better.
32:10Bill was good
32:11to her.
32:14He really loved
32:16Amaris.
32:17I mean,
32:17he would do anything
32:18for that child.
32:20And it's sad.
32:22It's really sad.
32:27It takes a disgusting
32:29human being,
32:30a very evil
32:31and twisted person
32:32to use that
32:34sort of manipulation.
32:37Johnnetta had manipulated
32:38and groomed
32:40everyone involved
32:40to try to get them
32:42to see her side
32:43of things.
32:43Carrie did talk
32:50about Johnnetta
32:51a lot.
32:55He was doing
32:56like different
32:57odd jobs
32:57for,
32:59so I didn't,
33:00I really didn't
33:00think anything of it
33:01was keeping him busy.
33:04As I was hearing
33:05more and more
33:06about Johnnetta,
33:08I did ask him
33:09if there was
33:10something more
33:10between them
33:11because he talked
33:11about her so much.
33:14It was apparent
33:15that Johnnetta Hall
33:16was willing
33:17to do anything
33:18or say anything
33:19that she could
33:20to get someone
33:21to carry out
33:22this murder for her.
33:25She swept in
33:27to give him
33:28that attention
33:29that I wasn't
33:30giving him.
33:33And then she played
33:34on his emotions.
33:37And how do you
33:38convince a 20-year-old
33:39to commit murder?
33:41Johnnetta told
33:42Carrie that
33:44Bill had
33:45sexually abused
33:48a marriage.
33:50That was a lie.
33:56Carrie's very
33:57overprotective.
33:59The best way
34:00to get to him
34:01is to tell him
34:02that somebody
34:02he cares about
34:03is being hurt.
34:04And that
34:05is pretty well
34:06as kryptonite.
34:07for Johnnetta
34:11to say
34:12those kind
34:12of accusations
34:13and those
34:14be false
34:15just shows you
34:16the levels
34:17of what she
34:18would go to
34:18and how low
34:20she would get
34:21to get things done.
34:24She picked
34:25young,
34:26impressionable
34:26people,
34:28including her own
34:29daughter,
34:29to manipulate
34:30to do her dirty deeds.
34:32But there's
34:35more to the story.
34:36There's a lot
34:37more to come.
34:50As the mayor's
34:51interview progressed,
34:52it was apparent
34:53that Johnnetta Hall
34:54had reached
34:55a point of desperation.
34:56According to Carrie,
35:01I was part
35:02of the contract
35:02that my mother
35:04told him
35:05I would marry him
35:06if this was done.
35:09I didn't think
35:10my mom would
35:10pretty much
35:11traffic me off
35:12like that.
35:18What kind
35:19of monster
35:19would use
35:21their daughter
35:21as a ploy
35:22to get someone
35:22to commit murder?
35:24It's sick.
35:26I was kind
35:28of on autopilot.
35:29I was so used
35:29to just doing
35:31for her
35:32without thinking
35:33I just did it.
35:34But inside,
35:35I felt like
35:37I was carrying
35:39myself apart.
35:40The planning
35:40of this murder
35:41and all the meetings
35:42seemed to be
35:43the only way
35:44she could really
35:44bond with her mother.
35:46I feel as though
35:47Amaris was trying
35:49to gain the approval
35:50of an absentee mother.
35:51It's shocking.
35:52To see a mom
35:56try to take
35:59her daughter
35:59down a road,
36:00a criminal road,
36:01a path that's
36:02so dark as this,
36:03it's very heartbreaking.
36:04her mother,
36:16Jeanetta,
36:16just played her
36:17and told her
36:18what to do
36:18and she was
36:19basically just a puppet.
36:20When taking
36:34this case
36:34to trial,
36:35I was extremely
36:36nervous
36:36because we didn't
36:37have a murder weapon.
36:39After Carrie
36:40Heald
36:40put the murder weapon
36:42in the car
36:42of Jeanetta Hall.
36:45She went for a drive
36:46just like she
36:47had told police.
36:51I believe that drive
36:52was to get rid
36:52of the murder weapon.
36:56She drove
36:56for quite a long time
36:58over many bodies
36:59of water
36:59and that weapon
37:01was never discovered.
37:08We're getting ready
37:08to put a person
37:09on trial for murder
37:10that was not
37:11at the crime scene
37:12that didn't pull
37:14the trigger.
37:17We're missing
37:18some key elements here
37:19to be able
37:19to convince a jury
37:20that she's guilty
37:21of murder.
37:24Anytime you've
37:25got a murder
37:26and all you have
37:28against your defendant
37:29is the testimony
37:30of other people
37:31who are involved
37:31in this crime,
37:32you're always worried.
37:35In the courtroom,
37:37Jeanetta was
37:37straight-faced.
37:39I think in
37:40Jeanetta's eyes,
37:41the kind of manipulator
37:42that she was,
37:43that she was pretty
37:44much convinced
37:45that there's no way
37:46this jury's going
37:47to find me guilty.
37:50I mean,
37:51it took forever.
37:52I thought,
37:53man,
37:53this ain't never
37:53going to happen.
38:00But the jury
38:01saw through her
38:02and saw the actions
38:04and heard all
38:04the evidence
38:05and the testimony.
38:09Jeanetta was
38:09found guilty
38:10by the jury
38:11of murder
38:12and conspiracy
38:12to commit murder
38:13and was given
38:14a sentence
38:15of life without parole.
38:18I felt justice
38:19had been served.
38:21Jeanetta's exactly
38:22where she needs to be.
38:24But this case
38:25had a domino effect
38:26that affected
38:26multiple lives
38:27because of manipulation,
38:29because of greed,
38:29because of pure evil.
38:31I know,
38:46I was in shock.
38:49I would have bet
38:50my house
38:50that he did not do it.
38:53That was not my son.
38:54My son would have
38:55never done anything
38:56like that.
38:58Just...
38:59I'm sorry.
39:03His whole adult life
39:05is, you know,
39:07locked up in prison
39:08because of John Anna.
39:11Anna Maris.
39:14Due to lies,
39:15just lie,
39:15to lie,
39:16to lie,
39:16my son is,
39:18you know,
39:18taken away.
39:21When you cannot
39:22protect your child
39:23and you see
39:24stuff going on
39:25with him,
39:26it is heart-wrenching.
39:40That broke me.
39:42That broke me
39:43so bad.
39:45I said,
39:46oh my God,
39:47there's no way,
39:49no way.
39:52That,
39:52my heart,
39:53just hurt so much
39:55for her.
39:56She shouldn't be
39:57where she's at.
40:02People do desperate
40:03things when they feel
40:04like they have no choice.
40:06And I think
40:06that's where she was at.
40:18My brother and I
40:18didn't get to spend
40:19the remaining years
40:20with our dad
40:21with our dad,
40:21you know,
40:21his weighing years
40:23as he got older.
40:24You know,
40:24his life was taken
40:25from us.
40:31It's sad
40:32that my dad
40:32collected this
40:33NASCAR memorabilia.
40:36And for that stuff
40:37to only be used
40:38against him
40:40to have him
40:41executed
40:41is just,
40:42it's terrible.
40:43He was a good guy.
40:54I just remember
40:55his laugh.
41:00He'd start laughing
41:00and make you laugh.
41:01You ever walk
41:08into a room
41:09and you could tell
41:10something just
41:11isn't, right?
41:14There was
41:16sex parties.
41:17There was
41:18getting together
41:19with groups.
41:20It's manipulation
41:20at its finest.
41:22It was to please
41:23my mother.
41:23It was what
41:24she wanted done.
41:25It was to be
41:26overdue
41:27as woman
41:27as woman
41:27as woman
41:28as man
41:28is She
41:29swatched
41:30to her
41:43in.
41:44It was a
41:47mother.
41:48Like,
41:50well,
41:50I've
41:51had
41:52of
41:52gad
41:53that
