00:00In other information, we go to China. The Global South gathers once again to discuss history, cooperation and international solidarity at an academic forum that seeks to give a voice to the countries of the Southern Hemisphere.
00:14Our correspondent, Bruno Falci, brings us more details from Shanghai, China.
00:18In Shanghai, China, the third edition of the Global South Academic Forum is on the way. Scholars and leaders are analyzing World War II and seeking to strengthen ties between Asia, Africa and Latin America. Delegates from over 20 countries and major academic institutions are taking part.
00:40Our forum began in 2023 with two objectives. To promote a new communication order in the 21st century and to build an academic community in the Global South.
00:53We seek to unite Latin America, in particular, given its profound history of struggle against colonialism, to jointly promote a new communication order and strengthen the friendship between the peoples of China and Latin America.
01:06This year, I visited the headquarters of the MSD in Brazil, its camps and schools, and I was impressed by the political strength of this peasant movement.
01:16I am also pleased that Telesur and the Shanghai TV International Communication Center have established a solid and fruitful cooperation, strengthening information and academic exchange between China and Latin America.
01:29The forum also revisits the roots of the anti-fascist struggle, highlighting the roles of China and the Soviet Union, a debate leaking history, memory to current global challenge.
01:43The first lie is that the United States leading the collective West was actually anti-fascist. It's not true. They were not. And the second great lie was that the collective West, whether in Europe or in the Pacific, defeated fascism. Not true.
02:01In fact, the West allied with the fascists against the communists from 1917 onwards. And it was the immense sacrifice of the Chinese and the Soviets and other people in colonized places that defeated the fascists.
02:18There were 50 million people in Asia died to defeat the fascists. You know, only half a million people from the United States died in World War II. In Bengal itself, 3 million people died.
02:32The meeting underscores Latin America's role in a world still marked by Western influence, promoting dialogue among universities and social movements.
02:43For Latin America, this forum is extremely important because it offers an opportunity to break free from the Monroe Doctrine, among other things.
02:55It provides a connection with the rest of the world, with all the countries of the global South.
03:03In Latin America, we haven't had much contact with other continents, always under the umbrella of the United States or Europe, within a Western world for a very long time.
03:20Attending a forum like this is precisely one of those channels for breaking free from collective subjugation to the West.
03:25Participants highlighted the need to build a fairer world order and strengthen cooperation among the countries of the global South.
