00:00And this brings me to the Gang Sounds Off, fellas.
00:04I'm going to pass on talking about injuries.
00:09Since Rich, he's not here, has all the answers.
00:11So you guys can get all the injuries from Rich.
00:14Is Garrett a candidate for IR?
00:18Is that not something you want to ask?
00:20Ask Rich.
00:22Well, I'm telling you to ask Rich.
00:24Well, you better call him.
00:25No disrespect to you or Rich, but we want to hear from you.
00:28You guys have been hearing it from me.
00:32But now since we're just reporting stuff that I haven't said,
00:36then maybe you should ask him.
00:37Look, we keep repeating this with Aaron Glenn every week for Gang Sounds Off
00:43because he just continues to give us quotes to respond to.
00:46There's something here that I want to present to you, Kaz,
00:49before I get your actual reaction to what Glenn had done yesterday.
00:53I see a lot of fans on social media who are like,
00:58we love this.
00:59We love this from Aaron Glenn.
01:01Screw the media.
01:01The media has always been worse towards the coaches.
01:04They don't care.
01:05Like, you know, like this is Glenn setting his trend
01:09and how he wants to basically run the media and have it his way
01:13and control the information and the flow of it.
01:15So this was him saying a big FU to the media.
01:18So I don't understand that part,
01:21but I guess I would love to hear your perspective here
01:24because I know what you said last week when you said,
01:26it gives us something to write about, Ryan.
01:28Like, it makes it interesting.
01:29So how are you viewing when Aaron Glenn goes into the press room yesterday
01:33and says, I'm not discussing injuries with you guys.
01:35Go to Rich Semeni over there who apparently knows everything.
01:38And then you got Garrett Wilson saying, talk to head coach.
01:40I can't tell you how long I'm going to be out either.
01:42What are we doing here?
01:45Yeah.
01:46So there's a few different things there.
01:48They did give people something to write about, right?
01:50Everybody wrote it today.
01:51So my point stands on that.
01:54You know, coaches have always tried to control injury information.
01:57That's not new.
01:59I do think when there's a situation like this, it's a little silly.
02:03Like, I don't think there's anyone on earth who expected Garrett
02:05to play Thursday.
02:06So I'm not sure why you're playing that game.
02:09Like, the guy got hurt.
02:11He re-injured a knee on Sunday.
02:12You have a game on Thursday.
02:14Like, logically, he's not playing.
02:16Whether that's three weeks or four weeks or five weeks or six weeks or two weeks,
02:19he's not playing this week.
02:20So I think he could have come out and said that.
02:22And he sort of lectured us, if you remember, guys,
02:25when Justin Fields got hurt in training camp that day with a toe injury
02:28and it kind of created hysteria.
02:30And he lectured us the next day and said, you know,
02:34I'm not going to BS you guys about injuries.
02:36But, like, you guys can't just go running off, like, doing, you know,
02:41speculating.
02:42And that day was a lot of speculation.
02:45It wasn't reporting.
02:46Rich did it was reporting.
02:47And I'm pretty sure Rich is going to be proven to be accurate.
02:50And he's probably going to be out three to four weeks.
02:52Rich is not a sloppy reporter.
02:54But the media is an easy target, Ryan, whether it's sports,
02:57whether it's politics.
02:58You know, the president has made a career out of attacking the media, right?
03:03And so we're an easy target.
03:05Most people don't like the media when you hear the media as a whole.
03:08So it's easy.
03:09So I understand fans going that route.
03:11But, you know, I think it's a losing battle for him.
03:15And I think he could have handled it better again.
03:17Like, I spoke with somebody, a former head coach last night,
03:22about it and stuff.
03:23And they were just like, you know, you can –
03:25no coach wants to give injury information out, right?
03:29But you don't have to be combative about it.
03:31And picking a fight like that is probably not the way to go.
03:34You know, and if he wanted to make a point,
03:37if he was upset with Rich,
03:38he probably should have spoken to Rich privately
03:39and not made it public like that.
03:41And, you know, but that's how he wants to go.
03:44And, again, if you win games, nobody cares, Ryan.
03:47No one will care how he is in press conferences if he's winning games.
03:50If you're 2-7, it gets a little more dissected.
03:54Yeah.
03:54I mean, look, it's certainly like –
03:58I've tried to discuss this with Frankie and others off the record.
04:02Not even off the record, but just like, you know, inside conversations.
04:05And it's this fascination of I think a lot of these newer coaches
04:09are trying to go the Bill Belichick route.
04:11Like you said, don't give any information out.
04:13I'm going to answer the questions my way.
04:15And you guys can keep asking me however many times,
04:17but I'm just going to give it my way.
04:19Yeah.
04:20But like you said, it always comes down to Belichick has the ranks.
04:23He has the wins.
04:24He can get away with that crap against the media.
04:26And we just laugh it off because, yeah, he wins.
04:29He does it his way and it works.
04:31But all these unproving commodities that come in a head coach
04:34and they try to establish their program like Aaron Glenn,
04:37it just comes off as like you're being an arrogant ass.
04:39And that's to me as a fan, but also who works in the media too.
04:44And I've worked in the media my whole professional career.
04:47There's a right way and a wrong way to go about it.
04:49And what I see from Aaron Glenn, this is the wrong way to go about it.
04:52I don't care what fans say about, yeah, you know, F the media.
04:56They're screw them.
04:56Like they don't know what they're talking about.
04:57They're always against the Jets.
04:58They're always negative.
04:59It's like the Jets do it to themselves.
05:02Who are we kidding?
05:03Like Frankie knows.
05:04Like, and that's where I want to trust you, Frankie.
05:06Like, you know what we're talking about.
05:07Well, they do it to themselves as an organization.
05:10So that's why Kaz and the guys are going to write negative pieces about it
05:14because that's what's going on.
05:16Am I wrong here, Frankie?
05:17No, I think you're right.
05:18The question I was going to ask Kaz, though, and I think this brings up,
05:21I think the most interesting point here overall is, Kaz,
05:25when you're saying this could bite Aaron Glenn in the behind at some point
05:29down the line, fans have said that, I've said that.
05:32What does that actually mean now?
05:34Like, we're saying, we're assuming that at some point when Aaron Glenn does go
05:40on even a longer losing streak than maybe he went on the first half of this
05:44season, which I hope he doesn't, but is the media really going to parade on
05:49this guy and start writing, let's say, a few hit pieces here and there?
05:53Like, is what he's doing now going to make it more likely or prone for the media?
05:59I'm not saying you specifically, just overall.
06:01This could be, you know, whatever, the athletic, yeah.
06:03Is this something where he's poking a bear and then sort of waiting for that bear
06:08to sort of say, you know what, I've had enough of you treating us like this?
06:14Yeah, I don't want to speak for the entire media.
06:17Yeah, of course.
06:18Because I don't like when we all get grouped together.
06:21I'll speak for myself.
06:22Like, I think what happens is we're human, right?
06:25So I think you lose the benefit of the doubt when you start to do this.
06:29I think if you treat us with respect and you don't, like, you don't have to be
06:34friends with the media.
06:36Like, I think that's a misconception too.
06:38Like, just treat us respectfully.
06:40I think if there's a situation where it's like, is this coaching?
06:47Is it quarterback?
06:48Is it the roster?
06:49Or, like, the coach might get the benefit of the doubt in that situation.
06:52But if you're combative and fighting all the time, you're probably not going to get
06:55the benefit of the doubt.
06:56And you'll get looked at harder.
06:59I don't know if anyone will, like, hit pieces.
07:02I mean, look, I think the argument for that, Frankie, would be Robert Sala was very friendly
07:07with the media.
07:08And there were some stories written that weren't very nice to Robert Sala toward the end.
07:14So it didn't help him.
07:16I think that's the argument against being friendly with the media.
07:21So, yeah, I just, I don't, I think it just creates, it's an unnecessary thing is what
07:27it is to me.
07:28If I was looking at it from, like, Jets management perspective is, like, we have enough to deal
07:34with, with Mike Vrabel and Drake May and then Lamar Jackson next weekend.
07:39You know, we have Josh Allen in the division and our quarterback isn't playing particularly
07:43well.
07:44We've scored one touchdown in the first quarter on offense.
07:47Like, we've got to figure out who's going to be on this team.
07:50Like, there's so many things to worry about.
07:53Let's not add the media to that list.
07:56And let's actually act like what we say, which is, we don't worry about the outside noise.
08:03We cut out all the outside noise.
08:04But then you really don't because you react to everything.
08:08So, like, actually do what you're preaching.
08:11Ignore it.
08:12Ignore it.
08:13Who cares that Rich reported that Garrett's going to be out three to four weeks, right?
08:17Like, you could come out and say, you know, you know what, guys?
08:21I know it's out there, but we're still evaluating him.
08:25You know, when we have something to say about Garrett Wilson, we'll say it.
08:30But we don't have it right now.
08:31But don't make it, like, ask Rich.
08:33Ask Rich.
08:33It's like, just I think it's creating an unnecessary layer of what you're trying to deal with here as a first-time head coach.
08:42And someone texted me yesterday.
08:44I said, like, what's his endgame?
08:46And I don't know.
08:47I don't know if there's a plan here in terms of dealing with the media.
08:50And, again, I want to emphasize this because I see this all the time.
08:54Oh, the beats hurt.
08:56I do not care.
08:58I don't.
08:58Like, if you heard it, if the tape was still playing at the end of the show, I was laughing.
09:03Some guys were really upset.
09:05I was cracking up because I found the whole thing so amusing.
09:08And I told him, all I care about is give me something to write about.
09:12Gave us something to write about.
09:13It was interesting.
09:14So I do not care.
09:16You're asking me about it, so I'm telling you.
09:17I don't care.
09:18And if he wins a game, it does not matter.
