00:04ready for the 250 East division main event here at Daytona International Speedway fastest qualifier
00:13Drew Adams the heat winners that man there Pierce Brown and Drew Adams and look at that final
00:20preparations before the gate drops both the West division and the first round of the East
00:26division this year 250 competitions been dominated by the blue crew all Yamaha victories interestingly
00:33enough Yamaha hasn't won in 250 competition here in Daytona in 10 years all the way back to 2016 and
00:44Jeremy Martin ready for 250 East here in Daytona main event let's go inside set hamica bike 10 hamica
00:54with the hole shot slips right up the inside as the other guys fade out and Joe Shimoda second
01:01position right there behind hammocker this is going to be a battle we talked about earlier those runs
01:07coming out of the gate and Joe actually had this hole shot I believe but he hit one of those
01:12front
01:12end popped up he had to pull in the clutch allowed Seth to get out front this is what he
01:16needed Ricky
01:16we know he has the speed need that clean air right now oh is that yeah Pierce Brown is trying
01:22to make
01:23a move on Adams early not letting these not wanting these guys you just have to think not
01:30one these guys in front to get too far out and gain that track position can be tough to make
01:35up time
01:35especially here early Yamaha may have dominated competition so far this year but it's Kawasaki and Honda
01:41out in front before you pick up the first Yamaha Seth Hamica crash in qualifying and crashed in his heat
01:50as he fends off
01:51Joe Shimoda the SMX 250 world champion that line was great by Joe Shimoda he actually gained
01:58position on Seth Hamica by going to the inside and jumping through there yeah
02:05Joe Shimoda almost tagged the rear wheel of Hamica just what we talked about in heat race how aggressive
02:10Joe looks coming off this injury just getting better and better Joe probably understands he wants to get
02:15out front hopefully avoid what happened last week and I think if he does he has the pace to start
02:20clear
02:20out but it's gonna be tough yeah he looks like a completely different rider than last week and on a
02:25gnarlier track but I actually oh look at this that's Davies trying to get by Cody Shock now he's gonna
02:32be
02:32on the inside here he'll have the preferred line or the advantage I like how Shock goes to the outside
02:39as it gets bottled up in there yes traffic jam of teammates up ahead one two three Cody Shock's gonna
02:45break up that line of teammates as he forces his way ahead of Davies tucks in behind championship
02:52leader Pierce Brown highest place Monster Energy star Yamaha rider is Nate Thrasher in fourth
02:58that's what I talked about being patient he slammed in that corner and lost that momentum otherwise he
03:03might have to pass and yeah he knows he has to get out get around him because they're those leaders
03:08starting to pull away as we see Drew Adam got around Nate Thrasher for third place it's hard not to
03:14take that by that bait when you see out of your peripheral the guy going a little bit faster than
03:19you are trying to make a pass oh this guy's teammates battling for it Seth Hamaka aboard his Monster
03:30Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki top box leads the way he was a championship contender last year finished just
03:37three points shy of Tom Vial to win the 250 East division but he won a couple of times it
03:43was a great
03:44season for him after multiple setbacks in his career last year was a phenomenal year for Hamaka this is
03:52Drew Adams the youngster working on the SMX world champion talking about confidence he was able to get
03:59around Nate Thrasher and close in on Joe so that heat race just the confidence that he's getting
04:05you've seen it on this racetrack Joe makes that mistake holds up Drew a little bit and you can see
04:10his teammate out front pulling away looks like a lot of the riders if they're kind of by their by
04:16their selves they go to the inside first on the split lane but if they're behind someone they
04:23automatically go to the outside there on the first right-hander so keep your eye there
04:28later on in this race looking at the 18 year old New Zealander Cole Davies currently runs fifth
04:36chasing after his teammate he's got teammate behind as well run by both those guys oh yeah
04:43felt Cole might make up some time but wasn't able to Pierce got through his wolf just as good
04:47yeah he did great run for the both of them and I was I was with you I thought for
04:52sure Cole was
04:53going to make up some ground on his teammate but he wasn't able Pierce is still hitting on only one
04:58actually seen in both classes still tripling into that sand section he didn't get it as clean
05:04slowed him down but you can get that right we saw what he did in that heat race
05:11babies was frustrated last week after going down on the opening lap but his comeback as he's coming back on
05:17his teammate here Pierce Brown his comeback from the back of the field to a top five result last weekend
05:22in Arlington that was something else as he passes the points leader I'm guessing he revved up his bike
05:28right there to try to scare Pierce Brown out of the line perfect execution way to look ahead and predict
05:34that that inside was going to slow down and keep that momentum around the outside really heads up I mean
05:40that could have been even costly he almost ran into Pierce but like you said that heads up Roddy he
05:45predicted and nice pass coming in on Drew Adams right in front of him yeah he's not that far away
05:51is
05:51he there's Adams top of your screen watch the run he gets through the whoops so I mean Cole Davies
05:55for
05:56his stature I mean he is absolutely incredible through the whoops he almost had I'd say six tenths to seven
06:03tenths
06:04time gap on the whoops last week in Houston that's an eternity in a regular supercross race
06:11he hits this triple oh Drew Adams got hung up there a little bit here comes Piz Brown on the
06:18inside
06:20and Cole is definitely keeping his eyes up because he almost landed on Drew if Peter jumped out he would
06:26have landed on him we saw Pierce get behind him but still didn't lose too much time yeah be interesting
06:30remember Cole made a pass on his teammate right here in this section coming up let's see if he does
06:35the
06:35same thing he's going to try to do it using this outside to his advantage so that inside oh made
06:44up
06:44time there you go I'm assuming he's probably going to go to opposite see if he could make Drew nervous
06:49maybe rush that corner oh Cole messed it up so he lost some time but you'll see that gap close
06:54in
06:55and he was able to show Drew Adams the front wheel and so now that's in Adams head he'll know
07:01that
07:01Davies is close enough and then now Dave if you're Davies right here James you've been in this
07:06position a million times he knows he's faster than these guys so the urgency is there for sure and
07:12you want to have it but at the same time he can kind of let the pass come to him
07:17when he has that kind
07:17of speed advantage yeah and the way Cole is and if I'm in this position as long as Seth isn't
07:23pulling
07:23away from me I'm okay with that but right he does that number 10 gets away I'm gonna have to
07:28start
07:28making these passes JT yeah they're definitely trying to get forward here but you know just
07:33another Drew Adams comment he's talking about this is his favorite race track you see Cole Davis like
07:36a huge mistake there but you know Drew Adams so good Pierce Brown taller guy AP do you think that
07:43there's a distinct advantage here at Daytona to having a taller height do you think they can get more
07:49leverage is that why these guys talk about Daytona being their favorite track do you think
07:54uh that's I mean listen that's a that's a really good question and I'd love to ask him that
07:59I think that the long legs and a track like this JT can work uh for you but against you
08:05also in in some
08:06of these ruts I've always been told that listen ain't no secret I'm I'm a short man so it you
08:12know ruts
08:13normally are better especially in turn situations so I think it's twofold I really do I love this place
08:20now it's short so there you go worked out pretty well didn't it 7 22 we're at the halfway point
08:29on
08:30the clock in this second round of 250 east for 2026 you're looking at Cole Davies a quick reminder
08:37to stock up on monster energy drinks at 7 11. really good form there through the whoops and
08:46still a lot of racing left here Will with uh half the race left to go yeah Rick and James
08:52we're just
08:52kind of wondering what you're seeing Cole Davies now compared to what we saw in qualifying earlier
08:56because talking to him after those qualifying rounds he was definitely not happy he describes himself
09:01he describes himself excuse me as overriding the bike he did say he's not too worried about
09:06qualifying and he's a racer and that's main event time for him but what do you see in him now
09:11what did
09:11you see in him this morning and we're talking about a kid with you know comparatively little experience
09:15in his pro class uh he hit a spot on that's what I thought I thought maybe he was trying
09:20a little um
09:21too hard and with this racetrack as this close down I think it's going to help Cole because he's a
09:26very
09:26technical rider so as the day goes on he'll get better but he was just overriding the racetrack to me
09:31it
09:32seems like when he gets close sometimes he gets a little excited obviously he wants to make that pass
09:36then he makes a mistake and loses that time but clearly he has the speed as he goes up the
09:39inside
09:41side by side with Drew Adams Cole Davies moves into third that was a really nice pass
09:47goes to the opposite lane and he really executes that last corner that left-hander coming out on the
09:54inside perfectly he's kind of messed that corner up the last two laps but man did he get it right
10:00at the
10:00right time whoa misses the inside he's got a shot at Joe Shimoda now oh yeah 100 watch this he's
10:08got
10:08a shot at this wind yeah yeah the way he's going I mean he was two seconds faster and drew
10:13and just
10:14what will was talking about he can just be smooth he has the pace and as you see these guys
10:19going jt
10:20i think he he still get this thing done he's got a lot of pace right now and it's the
10:25whoops guys like
10:26he's riding the track really well you can see how much smoother he is now and he's kind of letting
10:29the race unfold where he was overriding earlier as you mentioned but the whoops last weekend he
10:34had a clear advantage the whoops again here this weekend as the whoops are starting to deteriorate he
10:39has such an edge on these guys and i'm telling you right now if Joe Shimoda does not pick up
10:44the pace
10:44that is where he is going to continue making up time well jt i don't think you have uh timing
10:49and
10:49scoring down there but Cole Davies ran a 119-0 to Seth Hammacher's 121-0 a sec two seconds faster
10:59that is huge look at that bottom left graphic showing you times and this guy's flying this is his
11:06first pro race here Cole Davies raced here in smx next where drew adams got the better of him a
11:13couple
11:13of years ago but he is the man on the move watch him here beautiful yeah very good and yeah
11:20he's
11:21making time up clearly in the in the woops but i actually think where he's making more time up is
11:26due to the sand section in these corners when he's really patient he doesn't make too many mistakes he
11:31makes one arc and he's able to get it same thing with the sand if he gets it right make
11:35sure he gets
11:36in there he's able to carry that momentum that's where he's making it up make a little bit of time
11:40here
11:40nairs looks good just to go back to will's point about qualifying and cole davies james we were
11:45watching at the end and he made his feelings known he ripped his goggles off his helmet you could see
11:50the look on his face he was so mad at the end of qualifying where i think he was something
11:55like sixth
11:56and uh just not satisfied with his performance well he's got just under four minutes plus the lap
12:02to work on shimota and he's got joe right within his sights and then set hammock is only another two
12:07and
12:07half seconds up the up the track getting in the lap first man that was close did you see joe
12:13almost
12:13lose it looked like going into that right hander he initiated the turn and it pushed that front end
12:18push just a tad that hard base on there with that sand on top good job saving him but gotta
12:24give a shout
12:24out to the seft he picked up the pace he ran a 120 so he was the fastest guy on
12:29that racetrack
12:30there so he saw the number 37 davies coming you know ricky this race could be won and lost in
12:36the next
12:36half a lap that he can keep going i go back to also i mean compared to when we were
12:43racing james it's
12:44like these these younger guys are so good at maintaining like a two to three second lead it's
12:50always hard to tell if they're giving it their all whereas you and i when we were racing we wanted
12:54to
12:54have a you know a 20 second lead at the end so yeah but seth doing a great job whipped
13:00it up there
13:00when he did and got that gap back to two and a half three seconds and there's some lappers going
13:06on also yeah and seth didn't get through that sand section and look at that gap he closed down quite
13:12a bit just to remind you what happened to this man who leads the race and is just two and
13:18a half
13:18minutes plus a lap away from a victory which should be his best ever result here at daytona this is
13:22what happened to hamaca earlier today it wasn't pretty for the guy who almost won this title last
13:29year check this out uh yeah when you get right there that is that is so scary when you go
13:34sideways
13:35like that but glad to see that he was okay and remember he has shoulder surgery in the off season
13:41not sure why but his teammate drew adams just pulled off the track and has left this race that's
13:47a shame for the teenager who was running so well he was in the top three at one point in
13:51time
13:53tell us more about seth will i was talking to ricky lee before racing got started today and we were
14:00kind of reflecting on seth's performance last weekend and sort of ricky's opinion and not to
14:05put words in your mouth ricky that they just wasn't quite what we were expecting out of him he missed
14:09the
14:09podium there with a four well i asked him about that today and he said honestly i just i i
14:15took what
14:15the track gave me that night we know how bad the conditions were last weekend in arlington and
14:21something's happened oh shimota's down well oh man look at you can almost see his line
14:28right here not sure what happened he was probably feeling the pressure from davies davies was all
14:35over him a lot of times you don't get that momentum here let's see what happens oh he gets there
14:40probably
14:41buries that front end kind of hits that pothole right there and then yeah there is it there you go
14:46it
14:46looked like he tried to turn out early a little bit and get a straighter shot down that straightaway
14:51and just yep buries the front and at the moment that has cost him a podium spot because pierce brown
14:57not only cole davies but pierce brown went by as well oh brutal for joe i mean considering what we
15:05this guy's only been on a bike a couple weeks i'm sure he's not going to be happy but both
15:10these weekends
15:11are wins for joe which is how good he's been around he's had a chance i mean yeah you're talking
15:15about a guy that wasn't even sure he was going to race last weekend and the reason why folks is
15:20after
15:20he won the 250 smx world championship he went back home to japan to a hero's welcome it was an
15:27amazing
15:28period in his life he returned to the u.s and had a practice crash had a training crash and
15:33broke his neck
15:34had successful surgery but it was a long rehab period as you can imagine and this is still part of
15:40the
15:40comeback story last week finished second in awkward somewhat controversial circumstances with that
15:47confusion with the red flashing light and pierce brown jumped past him and went on to the win
15:52that infuriated honda the team the executives lars lindstrom the team manager and the rider especially
16:01now unfortunately here dropping it in the sand at the end of this 250 east main event yeah you heard
16:08lee
16:08right this guy broke his neck and he's out here doing his job so still a battle right here cody
16:14shock nate
16:15thrasher
16:21it looks like uh maybe daxton bennett yeah bennett's in front of him
16:27right there rod fifth position arrived by this guy yeah one of the toughest racetrack is he can hold on
16:34it to be a great victory but we highlighted that crash he is one of the toughest guys out here
16:40and
16:40it's not surprising that on one of the toughest racetracks of the year you see september maker out
16:45here well go back to like what will said i mean i i love what she had to say and
16:50you know seth just
16:51taking what the track gave him but this is like the kind of ride that i was kind of expecting
16:56from him
16:57just to be up contending for the win and we never really saw uh much like this look at that
17:02this is
17:03huge the cheers on for the 23 year old from bainbridge pennsylvania fourth career victory on the line
17:11and he'll be the first monster energy pro circuit kawasaki rider to win here in five years since
17:17cameron mcadoo won back in 21 this is huge i just think about ever since last year he invested in
17:25himself made to change he's been a completely different rider you think i've closely won
17:29that almost won the championship think about how any any race victory is special but as the two of
17:35you know all too well to win at the world center of racing under the lights here in daytona this
17:43is a
17:43special time seth hamica wins daytona
17:49and kawasaki breaks the yamaha stranglehold on this year's 250 competition
17:56mitch payton well done so happy for that guy mitch you ain't joking
18:06look at that
18:14that's a fan experience i think when they purchased them tickets they were going to get this that's
18:19why you need to come to the supercross that's what you get here awesome congrats that
18:25that's so special first one in the season first one at daytona
18:33is that point up too and lee you asked i mean what makes daytona so special it's that right there
18:39and what you're able to do and how you can celebrate here
