00:00We were talking about the NFL trade deadline yesterday at 4 o'clock,
00:04anxiously waiting by to see if the Patriots would do anything,
00:07and they didn't do anything.
00:09Why didn't they do anything?
00:11Phil Perry.
00:11I don't think they're willing to part with draft picks
00:13in the middle of what they still consider a rebuild.
00:15I asked Rabel two or three weeks ago, I think now,
00:17if their record and their performance this season
00:20would at all change their approach at the deadline,
00:22and he basically at the time flatly said no.
00:26He wasn't shutting off the idea of making that happen,
00:28but he clearly was not taking an aggressive stance either
00:32at the trade deadline in order to help bolster
00:34what they already have on the roster.
00:36Now, they didn't do nothing, as John pointed out to us last night.
00:41They did acquire, is he a wide receiver, I hope?
00:44Yes.
00:45Jerry Rice's kid signed him to the practice squad.
00:48Yep.
00:49A bold move.
00:51Bold move alters everything.
00:54They were, I get not wanting to make a big deal.
00:56You don't want to part with day one or day two picks.
00:59I get that.
01:00You're building something here,
01:02but there were some minor things that the Patriots could have done.
01:06We talked about, we had more than one writer talk to us
01:09about Rasheed Shaheed and what a deep threat he would be,
01:11and Shaheed was traded for a fourth and a fifth.
01:15That's something the Patriots could have done.
01:17I mean, the Chargers got a tackle for a sixth-round pick from New Orleans.
01:23Chargers' offensive line has been decimated on the left side
01:26because of injuries.
01:26They've lost both of their tackles.
01:28They got a guy who's going to start for them for a sixth-round draft.
01:32But do you think the Patriots thought they needed a tackle?
01:37I think the odds of both Will Campbell and Morgan Mose
01:40is making it to the finish line is remote.
01:44Considering Mose's injury history and the lack of depth on that offensive line
01:48and the fact that you have a kid that you want to protect,
01:50yes, I think that they certainly could have used an upgrade,
01:54and if the Patriots are being honest with themselves,
01:56they could have used the depth.
01:58A sixth-round pick for an offensive lineman is nothing.
02:00But is he in an expiring deal?
02:03I did not look at that.
02:04I don't know.
02:05But it shouldn't matter.
02:08Well, you're banking on someone getting hurt.
02:12Yeah.
02:12No, I understand what you're saying,
02:14but you said that the Chargers are going to start the guy.
02:18Well, they are because they don't have a left tackle with them all.
02:20Yeah, but that's why they made the trade is because they were in a desperate situation.
02:24I think if the Patriots had said,
02:26we'll give you a fifth,
02:27they probably would have gotten the deal done.
02:30All I'm saying is there were minor things the Patriots could have done.
02:34And didn't.
02:35And it was needed.
02:36We've gone over and over again about how this team is lacking with depth
02:40in many key positions
02:41and how this roster isn't nearly as good as the record would indicate.
02:45Here was a chance to get some depth and make the roster better.
02:49And if you really want that fifth round pick back,
02:52maybe you package up one of your four sixth rounders that you have in 2026
02:58and move back into the fifth round for the upcoming draft.
