TEMA AND JAMAICA RELIEF

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, Ms Me-laura Ag-beko, Assistant Director and Operations Chief at the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), has been deployed to assist Jamaica's disaster-response efforts.  Her deployment will span one (1) week, after which additional TEMA personnel will be rotated to ensure continued support until operations stabilise and recovery is well underway. 00:00Tema has already dispatched one of our professionals to assist with the rapid needs assessment team that is going to Jamaica.

00:13They will be departing part of the Trina and Tobago Convention, Miss Melora Abeco.

00:20So she will be on that team heading up to give support.

00:23The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, Tema, has activated its regional response mechanism, RRM,

00:31and deployed a rapid needs assessment team, RNAT, to support the government of Jamaica's national response and recovery operation.

00:41Accordingly, Miss Abeco will serve as part of the RNAT responsible for underground assessment of damage,

00:48identification of priority needs, and coordination with local authorities.

00:54Relief items to be sent to Jamaica from Tobago are being coordinated.

00:58It's that we pay attention to the needs list critically.

01:04It is critically important that we pay attention to the needs,

01:09especially where clothing is concerned.

01:11There will be, in no uncertain term, will we be accepting old or used clothing.

01:20So we ask persons to pay attention to that.

01:23In deploy, Miss Abeco, Chief Secretary Fali Augustin emphasized the human dimension of this response.

01:31We stand in solidarity with the people of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean

01:35who are experiencing the devastating consequences of this storm.

01:40Our contribution through the deployment of trained personnel, as well as our ongoing relief drive,

01:47forms part of a coordinated regional effort to assist affected communities and help restore normalcy.

01:54Collection of supplies to Jamaica started on Friday.

01:58We start the drive from this morning and it goes until the 4th, which is next week, Tuesday.

02:04We are hoping that window will allow persons to come and deliver their items, the collection points.

02:13If there are crates, then they can go straight to the warehouse with those crates.

02:18If you have loose items to be delivered, probably boxes or sacks or whatever,

02:24you can come to the Timur Fairfield Complex, located at Fairfield Complex, and do those deliveries.
