A Trinidad and Tobago humanitarian team is on the ground in Venezuela, providing urgent relief to families affected by the recent devastating earthquake. The Concerned Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago has already distributed hundreds of food hampers as part of the first phase of its disaster response.

00:00Just days after the powerful earthquake struck Venezuela, a four-member delegation from the
00:06concerned Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago traveled to the affected areas to assess the immediate
00:12and long-term needs of survivors. Working alongside international humanitarian partners,
00:18Helping Hands USA and Muslim Hands UK, the local organization launched its Venezuela
00:25disaster and emergency relief project just two days after the disaster. The first phase of the
00:32operation saw the purchase and distribution of food supplies within Venezuela providing 500 food
00:38hampers valued at approximately 20,000 US dollars to families impacted by the earthquake. The
00:45organization says distributing supplies in Lageria proved challenging, with large crowds gathering
00:52as volunteers worked to ensure the aid reached those most in need. Despite the difficult conditions,
00:59the team successfully completed the distribution with support from its international partners.
01:04The Trinidad and Tobago delegation comprises Secretary Manwar Ali, Director Imam Shaul Ali and member Imran
01:12Ali. Planning is already underway for phase two of the relief effort which will see containers of
01:19humanitarian supplies including food, hygiene products and building materials shipped to Venezuela in the
01:25coming weeks. The organization is appealing to the public to support the emergency relief project
01:31through donations to help provide continued assistance to earthquake victims. Concerned Muslims of Trinidad
01:37and Tobago says contributions from the public will help expand the relief effort as communities begin the long
01:44process of recovery.
