All contractors under the National Reforestation and Watershed Programme have been terminated with immediate effect.

The Opposition addressed the issue at a Press Conference on Wednesday evening.

A notice dated July 2nd was sent out to contractors of the National Reforestation and Watershed Program
00:06
by the Ministry of Rural Development and local government, informing them of their immediate termination.
00:12
The notice to at least one contractor stated that payment in lieu of 30 days notice will be processed and remitted.
00:20
It also gave a direction for all property belonging to the ministry to be returned within a period of seven days after receiving the notice.
00:28
Public Relations Officer of the People's National Movement and former Minister of Local Government Faris Al-Rawi says
00:34
the party received information of that nature last Sunday and on July 1st, the manager of the reforestation program was dismissed.
00:44
And today at Wednesday, the CEO of the Forestry Division was instructed by the Minister of Finance as Corporation Soul
00:56
to dismiss immediately all forestry contractors.
01:03
That was met with the same formula approach used in CPEP.
01:08
When compounded, Al-Rawi says nearly 20,000 people are on the breadline.
01:13
In less than two months of the UNC's government, you now have 19,810 unemployed, fire, not renewed.
01:25
10,700 CPEP workers, 4,608 forestry workers, 140 change agents in the Rural Development Ministry,
01:35
400 workers at WASA, 700 workers being COVID employees, as we are told, from the RHAs.
01:45
I won't name which one because people are fearful of being whistleblowers.
01:49
Another 900 at another RHA.
01:53
Added to that, Al-Rawi says, 10 executives of WASA,
01:57
10 at the Office of the Attorney General,
01:59
and a central bank governor, Dr. Alvin Hilaire.
02:02
He states that it comprises direct termination and the non-renewal of contracts.
02:09
But I add to that, 2,341 interns at the HTC.
02:15
Al-Rawi says it is a very unusual situation in that the instructions are coming from the Minister of Finance as Corporation Soul
02:23
to the various CEOs to terminate workers.
02:26
He further believes that the UNC's allegations to which these actions are being taken are unsubstantiated.
02:34
How does a Minister of Government come to the population and give facts with no space or time for investigation?
02:43
It is beyond the laws of physics for anybody to come and tell us that they could have come to a conclusion in law
02:51
based upon facts within two days of being in government or one week of being in government.
02:57
The opposition is calling it tyranny and says it will be taking action.
03:01
There will be further action. There will be legal action.
03:04
There will be other forms of engaged, responsible action by the opposition.
03:09
But today is the day that you know it's not yellow is the code, but yellow is the curse.
03:13
Because it has to be a curse.
