00:00:00is a big chunk of time that's not been through slow zones and safety cars that's just generally
00:00:05you know lost through traffic and general running so yeah but we're putting in an absolute blinder
00:00:10of a stint at the moment but so is Mark Leib. So the RGR Moran team are getting ready for a pit
00:00:15stop the 41 Ligier that's the Greaves motorsport car has worked its way up into the top six
00:00:20and Memo Rojas has just come in to change to Julian Canal we're on board with the leader
00:00:25though in LMP2 Stefan Rochelmi the 36 Alpine Nissan run by Signatech and that car just in front of us
00:00:34I believe that is the race performance car the 33 just in front of us looks that way yeah diving up
00:00:40the inside as he comes down into the Ford chicane yeah it's only taken me 18 hours to learn them
00:00:45all now only took me 18 hours so Bohemi Conway Leib Duval Vesla is the order in the LMP1s and the LMP2s
00:00:53it is the Signatech Alpine Stefan Rochelmi leading the G-Driver Raker and the SMP Racing BR Engineering
00:00:59car the striker is fourth Tristan Gomedi in the 33 Eurasia car is in fifth position fair play to them
00:01:06they've been getting on with things very quietly and they pop themselves up into a very strong top six
00:01:10almost unnoticed and then the Greaves Ligier is up into sixth position in the pro category
00:01:15that penalty for Ford has really cost them a lot Maluchelli is now 35 seconds clear of Dirk Muller
00:01:22in the second Ford the third for the third baseman is Westbrook in the 69 Ford so both the Chip Ganassi
00:01:30USA cars are still up the front Stefan Muca is recovering just behind the Aston Martin and Marco
00:01:35Sorensen who's there in fourth position overall now and the second Aston the 97 of Johnny Adam has moved
00:01:41into the top six so Aston Martin may not have had the one lap pace but over the course of 24 hours
00:01:46it's still a very reliable machine they're doing exactly what they said they were going to do
00:01:51you know they didn't I don't think they thought they had the pace to win this race from the outset
00:01:55talking to the engineers down there on Friday it was very clear that they were here to collect a bag full
00:02:01of points and that's exactly what they're doing you know at this moment in time they're just
00:02:06hammering it in making sure that this this double points WEC round they take the points away from it
00:02:11they can go away look at it understand where they are hope that the balance performance comes further
00:02:16back towards them um after Le Mans and then they can get go and get the job done you need to wake up now
00:02:22lad that's what that is thank you thanks for waking me up I was looking a bit embarrassing on there
00:02:28Reynard Gelderblom on Twitter looking at the pit crews do they work in specific shifts like you
00:02:33commentators do or do they just sleep whenever they get a gap somebody told me earlier in the
00:02:37week that Audi have actually got eight hour shifts going on I I've not asked Audi themselves but I'd be
00:02:45surprised Toyota certainly don't I know that and then you know the smaller teams absolutely do not
00:02:51they don't have the resource to do that but yeah there is a rumor floating around that Audi are on three
00:02:56eight hour shifts and uh one more for the moment on Twitter as we continue to get deep into the
00:03:03action we've just started the final WEC race of the Le Mans 24 hours the final six hours uh Deepak
00:03:08Ramdas won on Twitter the Audi's pace has increased do LMP1s have the ability to turn the engine power up
00:03:13to maximum or lower to conserve various different engine modes yes they do yeah absolutely they do um so
00:03:20they can go into fuel saving maps uh they can use a little bit more uh energy from the battery in
00:03:28certain certain rev ranges uh there's lots of ways where they can save save fuel um or or use a bit
00:03:36more to to get a bit more power uh the the Toyota used to have and I'm sure still does have a a boost
00:03:41button um which is just to give them that little bit of overtake you know if they've got a very short
00:03:46straight and they just want to use a bit more power they can hit that button and they it's like
00:03:51DRS in Formula One I guess they get passed but no it it will be again interesting to see how they
00:03:58this plays out with fuel saving because there will be a lot of that going on towards the end and you
00:04:04can lift and coast in these cars very effectively we hear it in Formula One lift and coast lift and
00:04:10coast so you're coming into the braking zone 200 yards before the braking zone you're coming off
00:04:14the accelerator just blending out of the throttle and the amount of downforce these cars have got
00:04:19the cars do start to slow very quickly uh just with just just through the downforce uh they've got
00:04:25the drag so the car will then um be saving uh an awful lot of fuel on the overrun before they get on
00:04:32the brakes and then uh come out the corner mechanics sleeping through happy hour nice little montage
00:04:39you just know there's going to be some cheesy music put under that and another youtube video will be
00:04:44made by somebody somewhere bless them five hours 57 minutes to go so we've got one one wet race left
00:04:51and Toyota leads by 31.4 seconds to Toyota it's a one two but we've been here before Toyota have led the
00:05:02them on 24 hours with a comfortable margin 30 seconds that's pretty good yeah but when we continues to
00:05:09stretch the lead though up to 32 seconds now um we're on lap 84 so we're still a little way away from
00:05:16uh from a stop from even of those Toyotas six hours to go Toyota Toyota Porsche and the two Audis
00:05:22one is only a lap down it's still a three horse race for the moment we think the Alpine Nissan leading
00:05:29the Eureka in second the BR Engineering in third three different LMP2 manufacturers in the top
00:05:34three I'm surprised pleasantly by that fact it's very good to see the GTE Pro category race still
00:05:41led by Ferrari but Ford are not done yet they're punching very high in second and third position
00:05:46Aston Martin slowly starting to come back into it splitting the third Ford in fourth and sixth
00:05:50position while the leader in GTM is still the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari with Swedler at the lead of the car
00:05:56at the moment uh Kubizzi in the Abu Dhabi Porsche is there in second and Pirodo has brought the 83
00:06:02Ferrari back from the brink in the AF Corsa Ferrari let's look through the field to the retirements we
00:06:07still have 50 cars of the 60 starters running the race at least that's pretty impressive but then we
00:06:13look to the retirements and there are some big names the Baikolis car one of the Chevys the two
00:06:18works Porsches in the GTE class the two works Ferraris in the GTE class category for AF Corsa some big
00:06:25names have fallen absolutely no and to see those two AF cars out is is a big shock for me and that's a real
00:06:34big hit on the WEC campaigns uh so Ferrari you know the foot new 488 will be on the back foot now as they
00:06:40move through uh the rest of the season uh we've got our two GTE Pro leaders just go gone into the pits um
00:06:47um Malachelli in the 488 in the uh Risi competition car has actually left the pit lane now that was just a
00:06:54straight service um no tires and Dirk Muller has managed to same within a second on the pit stop time
00:07:03um and actually slightly quicker on his in lap so uh Muller 34 seconds behind um as it stands
00:07:11Westbrook will be owing us a stop yeah Westbrook will be owing us a stop very shortly
00:07:18we talk about the last time Ford won the Le Mans 24 hours overall being 1969 it's quite startling when
00:07:25you actually sit back and remember that the last time a Ferrari won the Le Mans 24 hours overall was
00:07:3251 years ago 1965 you automatically assume it's Ferrari they must have dominated at some point
00:07:41during the 70s or the 80s but once we got into the 70s and the 917s uh were starting to uh make their
00:07:49way through then Marcher were a strong force then we had the Renault come through in 1978 and then we got
00:07:56to the 80s and anybody who was not in a Porsche 956 was going to have a very sorry time indeed indeed
00:08:01so Ferrari haven't won the Le Mans 24 hours overall they've won classes so many times but they've not
00:08:07won the overall Le Mans 24 hours for 51 years that is astonishing any guesses on the drivers Maston
00:08:14Gregory and the late great Jochen Ryn the thing that's going to be very sweet for uh Toyota as
00:08:22things stand is if they do this they've beaten Porsche Porsche are the most successful manufacturer
00:08:29here at Le Mans well not only have they beaten Porsche they've beaten Audi the two biggest names
00:08:37in Le Mans sports car racing they've come so close so many times Toyota they've had so many factory
00:08:43efforts we look back to the late 80s and 90s in the group c1 days uh with the Tom's manufacturer the
00:08:48Tom's team running their operation the GT won in 1998 and 99 that car was so impressive so nearly won
00:08:57in 99 could easily have won in 1998 they've been doing an absolutely cracking job since they re-entered
00:09:03the uh FIA world endurance championship in 2013 someone's going to correct me i'm sure i think it's 2013 so
00:09:11yep so close in 2014 they could easily and should easily have won that one but uh this time fingers
00:09:18crossed touch wood lucky rabbit's foot whatever you want they're one and two separated by half a minute
00:09:23Alpine with a problem with the wheel gun um so that's our leading LMP2 car just bringing out the spare
00:09:29gun now which isn't on the uh on the boom that you see normally going around the car so normally the guy
00:09:35can run all the way around the car with this swiveling arm you see above the car so you can do a full lap
00:09:40and now they're struggling to get to the front wheel to make the change not a massive panic they've
00:09:44got a good gap um but they won't want to be losing silly time like this in pits with a wheel gun
00:09:49problem and it's still tough as well because the mechanics are tired they're exhausted you can't
00:09:53really think straight when you can see that in their body language now you can see that it's you know
00:09:59earlier on in the race there wouldn't have been so much you're not quite sure where you are
00:10:03you're sleep deprived you're not thinking clearly you're not even seeing clearly sometimes in this
00:10:07it really does mess with your head being up this long i mean okay the three hours sleep we had
00:10:13last night but like most of the teams we've been up since eight o'clock yesterday morning so it's
00:10:18difficult you do have to push yourself you have to figure out exactly what your body can and can't do
00:10:22and for the mechanics it's impossible to get it right sometimes because you really have to stretch
00:10:27your physical agility your mental agility you have to be a bit of a strategist you also have to be
00:10:32quite physical it's it's tough changing tires you know it really is a physically demanding task in
00:10:38the pits everybody looks at it and goes oh that looks easy it's really difficult you have to be
00:10:42very strong to get it done quickly they do you know these guys are very well trained i'm sure that
00:10:47the teams are rotating people through wheel man and and wheel feeder um but you know they've got to
00:10:53just to try and keep people fresh keep people away keep it keep people alert but yeah normally you would see
00:10:59pretty a lot of calm going on around uh an instant like that there was a bit of panic there in the
00:11:03alpine garages they were running back to get the gun the guy was trying to get it off the lance
00:11:08they should have that would have been something they've drilled before yeah gun failure bang right
00:11:13go so yeah surprised to see them um running around like that but then they've been up for an awfully long
00:11:18time now the most finishes of the le mans 24 hours was in 2013 at 42 we've still got 50 going as gert is down
00:11:28in the pits stefan richelmi it was a good stint for you it's of course your first le mans here
00:11:34sunday morning and everything is going quite well what's the what was the biggest difficulty you've
00:11:39had during the night actually i was quite uh lucky because i could sleep some hours this night
00:11:45because nico did the the nice things because yeah for sure he has more experience he did a really good
00:11:51job because i took the car in p1 with some margin so for me the key was just to stay on track have a good
00:11:57resume and uh not to make any mistakes with the traffic still six hours to go of course is there
00:12:03any time to let up a bit to try and save the car a bit yeah it's still a really long way because it's
00:12:11a six hour race uh we have some uh some margin but we cannot uh you know slow down too much otherwise we
00:12:18will lose the momentum and the focus so i think we'll just take more take less the curves and uh push a bit
00:12:25less and we'll see in the end okay thank you we just saw chris cummings spin around at the exit of the
00:12:32porsche curves a bit of a scary moment every time we see these those esm cars they seem to be pointing
00:12:36the wrong way or in a gravel track it's a bit of a crazy day at the office for them now we were talking
00:12:43about this being the most amount of cars there's ever been in the le mans 24 hours and it is uh 60 cars
00:12:49is the most but it has been done before in 1950 51 53 and 55 there were 60 cars on the grid so this
00:12:56is only the fifth time there's been that many and this could break the record for the amount of
00:13:01finishes we've had because 42 cars crossed the line in 2013 three years ago yeah it's not really fair
00:13:06though there was only 56 starters so uh yes you still have 14 cars retire we've only had 10 cars
00:13:13retired so far let's see let's see it's possible it's possible lowest amount of finishes do you want
00:13:19to have a guess maybe something like 10. six would you believe well six back in 19 1931 only six cars
00:13:29came home in the lower 24 hours how many cars started uh i would say about two dozen i'd say about two
00:13:35dozen 24 the lowest amount of starters was in 1930 the year before and that was only 17
00:13:42only 17 cars started so it's amazing how this race has evolved over the years the most safety cars in
00:13:48a single race that was three years ago 12 appearances that was that was a pretty of a crazy race we
00:13:54actually spent five and a half hours nearly behind the safety car that was a very sad day though and
00:14:00there was a lot of safety concerns around uh yeah what had gone on and we lost a great driver that day so
00:14:06um yeah understandable the highest attendance list in history that classic 1969 race 400 000 people
00:14:17were here looking at the way this battle is shaping up between toyota porsche and audi this year
00:14:22what's the betting next year we could be going for that sort of figure again
00:14:27there is a bit of a culture shift at the moment between formula one and the uh sports car scene a lot
00:14:32more formula one fans are deciding do you know what it's not good enough anymore sports cars
00:14:36that's where it's at again and after this race it's going to be hard to find an argument to prove them
00:14:41wrong yeah bernie uh isn't going to be very pleased schedule baku against this back to back
00:14:47it's the worst possible which is the best race which is the best race so far i suspect that uh
00:14:53we're not going to see we'll see a closer finish here than you're going to see
00:14:56after an hour and a half of racing in baku i think we'll have a closer finish here that's a good shout
00:15:02actually so uh just looking at the the leaderboard again and said boy me now really stretching his
00:15:08legs and opening that gap um just waiting for the car to come through conway now conway 31 seconds so
00:15:14the gap has stopped opening to conway uh leave is coming through the final sector now
00:15:19um just to see where leave is pegasus car getting awfully in the way of the oh gte pro uh lead car
00:15:29there sorry the second place car the dirk muller on board as they come through in front of us just
00:15:35waiting for the gap so lieb comes through further 15 seconds behind conway matt shorter asks how many
00:15:42female drivers are participating this year that's an easy one just two ines tattinger and christina nielsen
00:15:48and they become well they could still become the 58th and 59th women to finish the race yeah
00:15:55they're doing an absolutely cracking job both of them the cars are running okay the number 60 ferrari
00:15:59is ninth in the gtm category and in is tattinger in the pegasus they're outside the top 25 but they're
00:16:06still going yeah still going i mean it um for gt going back to what one of the comments you were making
00:16:13last night there was an all-girl crew crew in the uh ford gt cindy that was uh natasha gashnang and
00:16:20uh go on you're doing so well i do know who it is um and she's still racist she's still on an
00:16:27audi contract which is very quick who have you said so far cindy allemand uh natasha gashnang and
00:16:33come on you can get there dtm recently yeah she's a she's a very quick uh young audi audi protege
00:16:41no brain's gone been up for too long ray alfray ray alfray ray alfray yeah so they they didn't finish
00:16:47though i don't think those guys no they didn't in fact an all-female crew hasn't finished the le mans 24
00:16:52hours since 1977 and that was christine beckers and the late great lela lombardi yeah okay in the in
00:16:59altera the lm 77 the most starts by a woman and charlotte vanay she started 10 times the most
00:17:04successful in terms of finishing well marie claude beaumont in the early 70s she won her class twice
00:17:11in six starts so uh can women handle them on yes they can yeah absolutely i don't think there's
00:17:17anything there to stop a woman coming here and doing very well there's anything to stop a woman
00:17:21coming here and driving a p1 car every bit as quickly it's just about the number of women coming
00:17:25into the sport we need more women coming into the sport at the age of eight who uh then get the
00:17:31numbers up and you'll start to see far more people um out there uh far more women out there at the top
00:17:37level so you know there's there's there's many people that uh uh want to prove that and there is
00:17:43some good young female talent coming through now and christina nielsen really the uh the first one
00:17:49um here showing what they can really do and uh you know she's champion last year she's leading
00:17:55gtd um over in the uh imsa series this year and she's uh she's done a fantastic job so far
00:18:03and this is her second year here at le mans she did do the aston martin challenge race here last
00:18:08year to get her get her foot in the toe in the water but um let's see let's see where she is at the
00:18:13end there are two or three women in both the ferrari challenge race and the uh road to le mans cup
00:18:18earlier on before this race started as well so it's still a very strong presence it's uh getting more
00:18:23equal is the the the right answer it's not equal but it's getting more equal and uh what's the
00:18:29betting katherine leg could become the 60th woman to compete at the le mans 24 hours next year could
00:18:34happen i hope so it would be nice to see her in a factory seat and i think she's starting to prove
00:18:38that she's more than capable of that she uh she had a factory audi drive for quite a long time alongside
00:18:43susie stoddart now susie wolf um katherine at audi and susie and mercedes but um you know katherine without
00:18:49any shadow of a doubt he's got the talent and yeah anybody who watched that first a couple of
00:18:54hours at daytona this year well she answered the critics jake robson which race so far this year has
00:19:00been better the nurburgring 24 the daytona 24 or the le mans 24 it's a tough one but i am going to go
00:19:07with the le mans 24 well let's see let's wait for the end um at the moment at the moment is the le mans 24
00:19:13but uh daytona was a pretty good race it was darn good to be fair yeah and that was again a race where
00:19:19there was about half a dozen cars on the grid that could have won it and it ended up coming down
00:19:24pretty much to the last three four hours yeah absolutely and we lost we lost some of the um
00:19:28lead runners early on again talking about katherine leg there number seven audi in the pits having
00:19:34already seen the number eight out back into the box oh not again well are they going to try something
00:19:39are they is this another right let's make a change um and see what it does see if it brings the eight
00:19:45back on the lead lap yeah you know so don't don't think that that's um necessarily a bad thing remember
00:19:50they've been playing under the nose with brake ducks quite a lot now this will be the third time we'll
00:19:54have seen them go under the nose just trying to see they are taking the rear deck off uh but that's
00:20:00the front off i'd like to stay with that shot well we'll come back to that and we'll see where they
00:20:05are and see if they're uh doing as i suspect more brake duct um tweaking i think we're in for a warm
00:20:11day today here um so if they have been running with those ducts semi-blanked or completely blank there
00:20:16may be the need to now remove that tape and and race the thing uh with with maximum brake cooling
00:20:23who's the fastest car on track right now mark lieb in the porsche 324 zero the last time around the
00:20:28toyotas are on the 326 and 325 mark so uh the porsche team are trying to come back in it they're not done
00:20:34yet nor is the audi and that car is actually going faster than both the toyotas as well toyota are in
00:20:40conservation mode it seems at the moment uh 326.6 for bohemi 325.9 for conway 324.0 for leave
00:20:47and a 324.7 for duval they are doing everything they can the german might is not done closest battle
00:20:53on track right now though is johnny kane just about to take third place in the lmp2 class away from victor
00:20:58shaytar um he's now down to 1.6 seconds behind i mean so just set a green sector time so straka
00:21:05gibson about to overtake uh smp br01 it would seem uh johnny now 1.5 seconds through the second sector
00:21:14so no johnny's really really pushing on he wants to uh get that gibson up onto the uh the bottom step
00:21:20of the podium i want to pick that up as well because on the last lap it was 1.7 seconds quicker
00:21:25than the uh br engineering machine so that would be an interesting battle to watch out on circuit and
00:21:29it is the closest for the podium we're looking here here it is just been told to put right on cue
00:21:35the br engineering nissan here we go johnny gibson nissan the the br01's tucked up behind some traffic
00:21:43as we come out so one of the uh that's the clearwater racing no formula racing ferrari 488 so
00:21:48yeah here we go johnny not got the same straight line pace as that br01 though has he the the br01's
00:21:56very slippery uh through the air toyota in that's conway conway pits in in the number six now is that
00:22:03on schedule is that to plan and uh if the guys down in the pit lane can get to the number seven i'm king
00:22:09to understand what's going on with the number seven i know it's not in the race for the uh for the win
00:22:14but we need to understand whether that's a reliability well or if that's them playing with
00:22:18the uh with the settings on that car to further develop the pace of the number eight so if either
00:22:24of our guys down there can go and find out please please please do so conway leading them leading the
00:22:32top four into the pits window here comes johnny kane he's gonna get shiked up in the slipstream
00:22:38but the straight line speed advantage of the beer engineering could tell here johnny kane is not
00:22:43going to matter about it he's going for it up the inside of the chicane he had to wait for the
00:22:47braking zone there oh so close but he gets it done br has to to take avoiding action which was
00:22:54which was silly of it on his part he didn't need to do that but yeah there's five hours and 40 minutes
00:22:58left why don't you just let him go what was pretty interesting there though was the fact that johnny
00:23:02couldn't pull out um until he was in the braking zone so you know the the br engineering car much
00:23:08quicker in a straight line and i suspect we'll see shaita trying to have a go back at him scary moment
00:23:14as conway rejoins the circuit in the toyota and almost gets side swiped by the ferrari af courser
00:23:20machine that is the 63 i think no so it's the 83 sorry that was a scary moment on the radio
00:23:36four hour and 40 minutes till rain did he say i think he did say rain
00:23:44sorry from a spectator's point of view i'm already rubbing my hands with glee
00:23:48because we've already had enough drama and action to fill an entire season
00:23:53rain thrown into the mix as well wow that'll just send this race nuclear it's already fever pitch
00:24:00i think he did say rain i think you're not a satellite or on their forecast okay well maybe
00:24:06the toyota weathermen have a different opinion to us or maybe we misheard it aren't very good at weather
00:24:10i remember uh young mr hamilton winning a uh a race because of it that's very
00:24:15a world championship because of it that's very true yes and uh all sorts of conspiracy theories
00:24:20did they do it on purpose of course they bloody didn't so johnny kane now goes through in a um
00:24:26and the new fastest lap for that time last time round and i suspect say we've got a green sector two
00:24:32for johnny um shaita losing three seconds to him in that middle sector
00:24:36so uh yeah the the gibson now on the podium so we've got orica orica gibson br01
00:24:44here's a stat i don't have to hand from jeff gmj how many marshals are around the track
00:24:50try a couple of thousand a lot of brits over here an awful lot of british marshals uh up and down the
00:24:57the pit lane and in out on the in the tribune so yeah no we should well considering in front of us
00:25:04i can count at least 20 and that's on one corner so you multiply that by 8.4 miles it's got to be in
00:25:11the thousand mark there's an awful lot and the logistics of managing those guys is is mammoth
00:25:18in terms of weck asks charl bosh and since borsche recently bought the track do you see kyle army
00:25:23hosting around in the future could be i've heard a rumor that it may well happen but we'll see it
00:25:29would be nice to uh get down into south america so sorry south africa for me personally a world
00:25:34championship isn't a world championship unless you're on all six continents i've always been a
00:25:38big believer in that so that's why i used to love it when the world rally championship used to go to
00:25:42the safari rally in kenya they don't do so anymore unfortunately and even uh the world touring car
00:25:48championship goes to morocco every year so it'd be great to see if we could have uh not just weck
00:25:53but formula one as well going to uh an african country i think that'd be amazing out of the pits
00:25:59goes the toyota shaitar and kane pit together so we've had the race on the track now we're going to
00:26:05have the race in the pits as out of the pits gets boemi and he still leads his sister car
00:26:12they're pretty much to the second had exactly the same length of pit stop there last bits as well so
00:26:17that's uh second third and fourth all uh all getting in the p2 class all pitting on the same lap so
00:26:26nearly a full lap uh renee rast has got on those guys so it that's really getting quite close menezes
00:26:33in the uh alpine number 36 car is uh is one minute 23 up the road on renee rast and that's only going
00:26:40to grow while rast is uh in the pits so it's going to be more like a uh two and a half minute gap
00:26:46menezes is going to have over over the rest well kuiper hoffman has been looking at the accuweather
00:26:51satellite and apparently there is a nasty blob of rain currently crossing ireland and marching pretty
00:26:57sharpish east so whether that's just uh stirring the pot a little bit or whether that is genuinely
00:27:04a concern the teams don't think so so far and they'll have the top of the range weather meters
00:27:10they'll know exactly where the rain is where it's coming from how fast it's approaching and so far
00:27:16none of the teams here seem to be concerned i think we're going to get away with this one
00:27:21without any more rain but now we've got an interesting dynamic the sixth toyota mike conway
00:27:27has got the number one porsche right on its tail the number one porsche having pit a little bit
00:27:33earlier on of course the beach dean aston has just gone into the box there's the leader inverted commas
00:27:39of the race sebastian bohemi here's the radio
00:27:43it's gonna not be easy to what i didn't quite get that no i didn't hear it that could be the most
00:27:53critical thing in the race and we couldn't really hear it so bohemi something at toyota is not going
00:28:01to be easy the whole race i can believe that yeah it's going to be a tough fight from here five hours
00:28:1034 minutes to go uh bohemi's pushing like crazy i wonder whether he's actually complaining whether
00:28:17the next stint's going to be hard because he does uh i think bohemi yeah bohemi will be staying in for
00:28:22at least one more um so yeah three already hasn't he he'll be staying in for another they were quadding
00:28:28through the night i'd be surprised to see him come out there's no reason for to think that they're not
00:28:34going to quad stint now uh to the end and do we think this stint the last one before he changes
00:28:41driver do you think this is going to be a 13 lap or a 14 lap um i think they're just consistently
00:28:47banging in the 14s now i think the the only reason they did what they did was to just get them split
00:28:52so that it didn't matter which order they came into the box in so they didn't want to lose time we saw
00:28:56them do that early in the race too the Porsche number two is in mark lieb rick gives us his first stop of
00:29:01his stint yeah i think that was just to uh to give us the um give us the uh the the split between
00:29:08the cars and make sure that they had the opportunity the best opportunity to uh get out cleanly from the
00:29:15pit box ah punishlessness has obviously got a clearer radio transmission than we have on twitter he says the
00:29:21tires are coming off that's what bohemi says now what he's saying in that is not literally not physically
00:29:26in the way the wear is going so uh they may be surprised considering how quickly bohemi's gone
00:29:34across this stint um you know he has pushed very very hard um conway now 34 seconds back uh from him
00:29:43wait for conway to come through so that we get an update on that gap but um yeah i mean come to have
00:29:49gone 34 seconds across a stint quicker than conway uh you'd expect him to have taken quite some life
00:29:56out the tires so the number six car now comes across the line that's conway going through to break the
00:30:01beam is he going to get out ahead of uh yeah he'll do that he'll do that the Porsche is still going to
00:30:08be going down the pit lane 33 yellow flag does make it out the pit lane double yellow flag leave and
00:30:18that's why 50 corvette that's oh that's a carbon coffee that is a carbon copy by the look of it of
00:30:24what jean-lou chatin did in the warm-up this morning yesterday morning i should say that's
00:30:29yutaka yamagishi i think leaves made it out in front of conway um and then that yeah 32-3 uh back so there
00:30:36is not quite he's got him on the outlet yeah okay so i think we've got a team yeah it's oh big stack
00:30:44in the middle of the corner though and into the wall yeah just in that's not too bad actually no
00:30:50not so bad tank tape and tie wraps that'll be back out well let's go down to get in the pits of the car
00:30:55and which is mounted with uh two strings one of the strings was broke when we had to replace it
00:31:01there are theories that you're using this seven car now as a test lab for the eighth car is that
00:31:07correct yeah what we can usefully try we do okay thank you unfortunately a very brief word there from
00:31:15dr ulrich himself so uh not giving away anything either which is good uh reinforcing what we've been
00:31:22saying that you know that they are using uh the number seven to prove out theories for the eight and
00:31:27it's the only sensible thing for those guys to do now but eight's far from out of this race um just
00:31:32looking now at the gaps where we are so eight has lost a little bit of time on his in lap um
00:31:39last time round he's now in the pits like to fall so he is getting just fuel
00:31:49and if we won leader still toyota first and second 34.3 seconds is the gap leave is only 0.9 of a
00:31:55second away from conway now though to the battle conway got past leave because i suspect that was
00:32:00down onto the mulsanne and uh it would have been a very tight run um it might even have been at turn
00:32:07one you know they might have just got it by a meter or so yeah it's a shame we didn't really get to see
00:32:13mark leave leaving the pits because i don't think there was much in that at all coming out of the pits
00:32:17there wasn't that was um that was good work by the porsche guys though because it was one minute six
00:32:22stop for them so it was a quick stop to to do that um i think the the porsche guy is really on
00:32:27it now making sure that they're getting as much uh advantage in the pits as they can they're determined
00:32:33aren't they they won last year they know it can be done they've got the equipment there is still
00:32:38one car running at the front the other one is still going by the way but that water pump failure
00:32:42at night time pretty much taking them out of the running so uh they are now the gopher as it were
00:32:48up and it's uh 2011 all over again to a certain degree because the toyota's two by two hurrah as
00:32:56we go to the slow zone for that spun corvette but uh it's a difficult one for porsche because they're
00:33:03in exactly the same boat as audi were in 2011 just one car to fight off the twin effort of toyota
00:33:12uh it can be done audi did it can porsche do the same center mark on twitter katherine leg susie
00:33:20wolf and pippa mann in a p1 car for next year how's that for a top female lineup uh you're going to
00:33:25have to take away susie wolf because she doesn't race anymore of course she retired at the race of
00:33:29champions last year so she'd probably say no i'm going to replace susie wolf in that lineup with jamie
00:33:34chadwick that is an interesting choice she's going to have to do some training in a p1 car before she
00:33:39could do that she has done some single seater testing i was a little disappointed to a certain
00:33:44degree that they didn't put her in the 99 beach dean aston because she's got a good relationship with
00:33:49that team but then i did have to remind myself jumping up from a gt4 car to a gt3 car is a massive
00:33:56leap yeah and there's lots of other quick young females around um around european motorsport um who
00:34:05are more than capable of jumping in one of these cars and uh and doing the job uh but we'll see you
00:34:12know i think it'll be surprised to not see katherine here um there's there's there's lots of opportunities
00:34:18i think it's it's fair to say for the for the right female um to market herself uh to get onto the the
00:34:26biggest platform in lmp1 i could see sophia fleurge being that girl one day yeah she's absolutely mega you
00:34:31know uh in terms of her pace and she could be an audi driver she could be a porsche driver she's
00:34:36struggling for fun she's she's another one who's scrimping and saving to get get the job done so
00:34:42yeah just you've only got to have a google to see what those what those those drivers are and who they
00:34:49are what they can do and and see if they can uh get out here on the grid down the straight with the
00:34:56porsche 919 hybrid unfortunately the picture broke up just as we were about to listen to the engine
00:35:02but the toyotas are leading and conway on the last lap because of the slow zone they were in the four
00:35:09minutes mark but conway is pulling away quite rapidly from mark lee he's once again looked after his car
00:35:17in the last stint and now that they've gained a bit of ground porsche in the pit stops his basic message is
00:35:22get away from him the the bohemi gap isn't going out um which i find strange uh i thought that bohemi
00:35:31was going to continue pushing on but he was complaining about the tires there um either conway
00:35:36should be going back to him or bohemi should be uh should still be pulling away one or other but it
00:35:41just seems to have neutralized itself this 32 second gap is there a chance he physically can't with the
00:35:46tires the way they are yeah but then you'd expect conway to be gaining on him because conway hasn't taken
00:35:51that out of the tires he only took four tenths of a second in the first sector and half a second now
00:35:56in the second sector so that's improvement but it doesn't really indicate that bohemi's having
00:36:01major issues with the tires that just says traffic more than anything else so uh he's gained but it's
00:36:07not a massive enough gain for the number five crew to be worried so conway still leading 32 seconds ahead
00:36:164.4 seconds down the road down now you just saw him coming into the picture is mark lieb in the
00:36:20porsche so the toyota boys are desperate to get away and mike conway is the man to do that he seems to be
00:36:26captain aggressive around this circuit not with other drivers but at this circuit he is attacking
00:36:31every single corner dick muller in the ford in the gt pro car is um taking just as i say that he doesn't
00:36:38take a chunk chunk of time out of uh malicelli in the ferrari but he he had been taking big chunks
00:36:44of time out of malicelli he's down got the gap down to around 20 seconds now so he's taken 12 seconds
00:36:49out of that in the last 20 minutes it's 17.6 now and he's gone seven tenths quicker in the first sector
00:36:56yeah he's um he's trying and one point two one point two in the second yeah four darn out of this
00:37:01yeah he's taking an awful lot uh a lot a lot of time out with slow zones uh now as we go through the
00:37:07porsche curves trying to understand what that's about that's recovering that corvette still isn't it
00:37:13so the gap has come down to 17.4 in the battle between ferrari and ford for the gt pro honors
00:37:19at the rate of well what's it likely to be now you've gained 1.2 he gained seven tenths of a
00:37:24second that could be two seconds the stint he could be on him um it just depends why malicelli's
00:37:29struggling in the ferrari uh possibly being bought by cars lapping him not really i mean we're looking at
00:37:35it's four seconds off on the last lap i don't really understand why that would be there on equals
00:37:41absolutely strategy equal on tires equal on fuel load um that is a straight race to the end that was in
00:37:47effect reset on zero uh for everybody on the six hour point so let's see let's see what what derek
00:37:53muller does i think maybe he's just fired up after that penalty really wants to get back on terms and
00:37:58they know they need to push the ferrari they're both new new cars this year um and they've both had their
00:38:04fair share of reliability woes so far um the ford probably slightly stronger in terms of reliability so
00:38:10far than the ferrari ferrari have had various engine issues so far uh during their campaign and
00:38:16um you know as we've seen the af corza cars the 51 and 71 both out of this race well the 50 corvette
00:38:22has come into the pits so i'm not entirely sure why we now have slow zones at the same spot maybe there
00:38:27was oil down there i think they're cleaning out the mana two was still out there so uh there was
00:38:32definitely some work to be done uh whether when he's clattered the barriers they've actually
00:38:36bent the barrier and they're doing some repair work there yeah impossible i suppose i think that's one of
00:38:41of the areas where they've got these new safer barriers installed i don't know how they go about
00:38:46repairing the safe barriers the barriers that are two double layer that give give as the car goes in
00:38:52like much like a tire wall but safer than a tire wall in that the car can't get caught up in them
00:38:57and easier to replace um if they are damaged here's an interesting question and one for you giles because
00:39:03obviously being a club racer yourself and being a team boss at le mans in the past you know the answer to
00:39:09this one more than most philip holzer phil wants to know what can i do to get myself in a race car
00:39:14at le mans in 2024 sim racing local class racing should i move to europe from south africa what would
00:39:20you do sim racers have been here and done it um i think darren cox's program with gta academy
00:39:27is now long gone that won't be back in a hurry there are others talking of doing similar things but
00:39:32sim racing is always a good place to start uh you learn an awful lot you learn some race craft
00:39:36um you learn circuits and you do if you're using them properly learn about chassis changes and
00:39:41dynamics um but ultimately you've got to have some deep pockets uh talent alone will not get you here
00:39:48and you've got to put yourself in front of everybody that you can at every opportunity and uh really
00:39:53sell yourself every single day uh to be here but you unless you've unless you've probably got a million
00:39:59quid to invest uh in your career unless you're jan marden bro and you're going to come through the gta
00:40:05academy then it's not really realistic to think you're going to make it i was hoping somebody
00:40:10would ask that the question that's about to be asked via twitter reynard gelderblom asks apart
00:40:15from nico hulkenberg has anyone ever won overall on their debut i knew somebody might ask that question
00:40:23so i prepared it i prepared it in advance uh because earl bamber is one of those
00:40:29earl bamber with his teammate he is sharing the same car but there were quite a few beforehand the
00:40:33first one to win on their debut obviously andre lagache and renny leonard the drivers who won the
00:40:38very first uh you had to wait five years before bernard rubin and wolf bernardo did it in the
00:40:43bentley fantastic combination those two uh luigi cinetti was next in 32 tazio nuvolari 1933 one of the
00:40:51greatest racing drivers the world has ever seen possibly even the greatest ever uh philippe toncelain a year
00:40:57later in 35 did it louis fontes in 35 he did it uh jean-pierre vimille in 37 peter walker in 51 fritz
00:41:05rice and herman lang in 1952 i've abused in the jaguar alongside mike hawthorne in 1955 he did it uh 1967
00:41:13aj foyte aj foyte won on his debut at the lamar 24 hours hurley haywood in 1977
00:41:20klaus ludwig in 1979 he won on his debut so too did another one of our british heroes andy wallace
00:41:28in 1988 he won on his debut in fine style in the jaguar uh christoph buchu and eric ellery in 1993 in the
00:41:35peugeot they won on their debut the youngest ever winner of the lamar 24 hour alexander wirdz he won on
00:41:41his debut in 1996 somebody called tom christensen won on his debut as well 1997 his very first win out of the
00:41:48nine that eventually he achieved and the last one in that list in 1998 in the porsche lauren aiello
00:41:57just looking at car 36 menezes is under investigation for a pit stop infringement
00:42:03i don't know what that would be that last stop looked pretty clean other than the issue with the
00:42:08gun it may be that they brought the second gun out over the line without returning the other one
00:42:14i do think the rules clearly state you're only allowed one gun over the line so i suspect we're
00:42:21going to see a penalty for 36 which is what we were talking about after the stop it just looked clunky
00:42:26it didn't look drilled i'm quite sure they would have drilled that stop so uh i suspect we're about
00:42:32to see a penalty for 36 and it will be down to having two pit gun two two wheel guns over the line
00:42:37that's a fatigue issue isn't it i don't think that's a skill issue exactly no it is it's just
00:42:42you get that's when you're really tested you're really tested when these things come up when when
00:42:46that problem happens you know if you're just doing the routine it's pretty easy it's pretty
00:42:50straightforward you just get into that routine when that routine's broken that's when you see the
00:42:55problems you know if you see a car go in the wall that's that's the point where okay right hang on
00:43:00well and things can get left loose things don't get done the correct checks don't happen and we saw that
00:43:05with the tda car they were obviously panicking to get that car out and ultimately they missed
00:43:10something that was a car retiring issue despite the fact you've driven the car back from the scene in
00:43:15the accident well if you're watching the gte pro battle as closely as i know many many of you are
00:43:21it's gonna get very interesting very very quickly dirt muller 14 seconds dirt muller has dropped that gap
00:43:27from 24 seconds four laps ago to just 14 he's taking on average two and a half seconds per lap
00:43:35out of maluchelli's lead ferrari are going to be sweating very very very quickly equally conway is
00:43:41taking time out of the the league gap so conway now got that gap up to seven and a half seconds so
00:43:48our key battles now uh really are the lmp1 battle and the uh gte pro battle of course there's a very
00:43:56on on track there's a very good chance that could become the lmp2 battle as well now if menezes gets
00:44:00that penalty yeah i mean if menezes gets that penalty johnny kane's now fairly well established
00:44:04in third shaitar's now 8.4 behind johnny um and it's that's going to be down to driver rotation this
00:44:11is the thing with lmp2 the most critical thing in p2 is how your silver driver goes
00:44:17you know we've got nick leventus going into the uh the straker um nick had made a few mistakes over
00:44:24the years but if he's driving the best he's ever driven i would say um so i i'd be uh be be wise to
00:44:31probably put your money on that gibson uh nick's hit the mistakes seem to have gone from his driving
00:44:37um he used to make them regularly but you know he's had the consistency of danny and uh danny and
00:44:42johnny with him now for what is it now is it this the ninth year nine years um and yeah they've they've
00:44:49they've got the consistency they've worked with him a lot he spends an awful lot of time driving
00:44:53formula renault 3.5 cards um to make sure he's got that consistency and pace um across a stint uh
00:45:00so you know i think um let's see but uh my money there would be on um the the uh the gibson
00:45:08of the straker racing crew to to sustain that third place on the podium given good reliability this is
00:45:15year 10. five good laps for the 68 that's what they're after so yeah the gap's down to 12.4 now
00:45:24but being pushed to to do more i was just going to say with straker it's their 10th year since they
00:45:30were founded in 2007 and it's their ninth appearance at le mans i believe yeah i remember their first brick
00:45:37car 24 hour race which i was competing in um when they had the bmw m3 one of the ex um imsa cars old
00:45:45gt2 bmw v8 uh gtr and uh you know they very quickly um came here and and got the got the job done
00:45:55um you know they're past victors here let's not forget that am i right in thinking that was a race
00:46:00where you competed against some top gear people yeah it was yeah yeah no there were there were uh
00:46:05some the top gear clowns were there and i bet that was irritating at times when particularly on track
00:46:11yeah no they they struggled bless them that's so polite i i can't say much because the year that
00:46:18year we were running uh i was i was team managing a team that wasn't uh wasn't quite up to standard a
00:46:23team of team volunteers that we uh we struggled an awful lot through the night and i still got the scars
00:46:28to prove it from changing alternators myself because uh cheek mechanic refused to do it wow okay
00:46:35that's what that is i did wonder so the ford 68 is pushing on big time the gap is down to 12 seconds
00:46:44now as he comes across the line again that gap's going to decrease again there's maluchelli over the
00:46:50line and he's done a 357 zero muller behind is in 353s at the moment this is a massive massive
00:46:58gap that has come down to a very very small one the gap's down to 10 zero he's just on a 352.9
00:47:06ford are not giving up at all if anything they are throwing everything by the kitchen sink at ferrari
00:47:12maluchelli just doesn't seem to have an answer um i don't know whether they want to race it because
00:47:17let's face it catching him is one thing passing him is another uh but uh maluchelli just just driving
00:47:23the thing very well consistently and no not responding to the pressure coming from behind
00:47:27how long has he been in the car if this is his third stint uh maluchelli and muller went in at
00:47:33the same time no this is not their third stint so this is interesting because uh you might want to
00:47:37think straight away well what about getting physico in the car but it's not right for the strategy they
00:47:42might just have to let them go it's down to driver time as well yeah making sure that everything works in
00:47:46terms of that but let's see i mean giancarlo came out the car just as we came on shift we've been on
00:47:52now for nearly four hours um so it is about that sort of time where you would be thinking he'll
00:47:58certainly be wake being woken up and spoken to about right you know we we think we we're going to put
00:48:03you in next um but let's see yeah the af guys have done a fantastic sorry the um reese guys have done
00:48:10a fantastic job so far um don't if it ain't broke don't fix it so just keep going around
00:48:16catching them as one thing passing them to another the porsche goes but oh we've had a
00:48:21collision that's the two american cars the crone racing and the michael shank racing car what happened
00:48:26there i want to see how that happened again because uh it looks as if they're just battling for position
00:48:33oh no for a change three american cars all together and for once the esm doesn't get involved in it
00:48:39yeah and poor old tracy crone a victim uh because tracy's uh yeah he's had a few issues so far but
00:48:47um yeah no that car being assaulted no shadow of a doubt about that that was under braking john
00:48:54pew just losing the back end of the car and it veering off to the left and uh well poor tracy crone
00:49:00completely blameless in that one down to the monsan we ride on board with the ford i hope we stay with
00:49:06this one actually we're going to get radio from murphy though no we're not i was disappointed i was
00:49:13hoping we could stay on board all the way down the run to the indianapolis
00:49:20come on buddy come on come on to do it isn't he he can do it he will do it so the uh the investigation
00:49:27on car 1449 underway i'm just still waiting for news on meneses 30 car 36 rp2 leaders pit stop
00:49:36potential penalty i suspect that will be coming shortly i suspect there's there's a conversation
00:49:41going on between team manager and uh and the um acl officials at the moment about severity of penalty
00:49:48but um that one should be relatively minor it wasn't a safety offense they weren't going to hurt anybody
00:49:52with that the gap is 9.9 thanks to traffic 9.5 i should say sorry thanks to traffic because he's
00:49:59actually losing time to malicelli on this lap because of the traffic there's anthony davidson
00:50:05just consulting with the toyota squad how are things looking can we win this the answer at the
00:50:10moment is you certainly can mate and there's another man who's had a long long career in
00:50:17motor racing with everything but the jewel in the crown formula one didn't really do him any favors
00:50:23despite the fact he was better than any formula one car he was ever given in my personal opinion
00:50:29but the le mans 24 hours has been reasonably kind to anthony davidson but it's never given him the
00:50:35victory he deserves and what an obscure career anthony davidson has had at le mans it's almost in two
00:50:43halves really 2003 he got the velox pro drive ferrari gts role that was in the middle of him being a test
00:50:51driver for bar honda he also raced of course with super aguri in the 2007 and 8 seasons did two races
00:51:01for bar did one for minardi no sorry he did one race for bar that was the 2005 malaysian grand prix
00:51:10if memory serves me correctly and then he did one race in hungary 2002 for minardi he is the world
00:51:15endurance champion from 2014 so he knows what he's doing he was one of the lead drivers in the aston
00:51:20martin lola project in 2009 another mp1 team and he was the perjot man for two years
00:51:27so it was 2012 that toyota made their debut in the le mans 24 hours with these with this project
00:51:33not 2013 i'll correct myself now because davidson this is his fifth campaign at the le mans 24 hours
00:51:38with toyota and surely surely with his colleague sebastian bohemi and their other man kazuki nakajima at
00:51:45the wheel this time they could do it they really could do it we're on board with the porsche mark
00:51:52leave 3.4 seconds back as into the pits comes the number 40 krone car and i would not be surprised if
00:51:58the michael schack racing car is not far behind it well into the bits comes the esm the number 31
00:52:03so it's still toyota's one and two 25 seconds is the gap conway just steadily closing up on car
00:52:12number five there's the number two porsche going with him in terms of lap times the leading car
00:52:19for wemi is on 328 conway and jarvis in the audi now are on 326s into the pits comes the michael
00:52:27shank racing car right on cue after that little tangle with the chrome car and then into the pit
00:52:33sorry leave is the fastest there he is you're looking at him 325 2
00:52:40down the straight
00:52:45see the car's slowing very early for the chicane there the porsche just being a little bit
00:52:52conservative perhaps because uh normally during uh an aggressive part of the race you'd be breaking
00:52:57about 150 hundred meters before the corner but he's eating off the throttle a good 250 meters
00:53:04before the chicane ah that'll be it yep fuel saving they're already working the strategy towards the
00:53:10end of the race they're already thinking about it yeah he's done it again yeah lifting coast that's uh
00:53:15that's that the engineers have worked out what they need to do to save a pit stop
00:53:19and uh the pace is there to do it so this is some clever strategy by the porsche boys and
00:53:26that says to me they're pretty confident the monday missile just over five hours to go the number one
00:53:31porsche are in 29th and a few laps behind any predictions on where they might finish uh no but
00:53:36the sums i did do is that they're going to be eligible for points uh they're going to make the cut so
00:53:43no i wouldn't like to guess where they're going to end up but if they carry on not losing ground
00:53:47to the uh number five or or to the winner whoever the winner may be yeah then they're going to they're
00:53:53going to get their wet points and that's a really important thing am i right in thinking they're
00:53:57actually sixth in class they are now ahead of the rebellion and it's and it's a double double points so
00:54:02it's it's for them it's absolutely critical to carry on it might be the difference at the end of
00:54:07the year between world championships or not both for the manufacturer and for the team themselves
00:54:13and that of course is the reigning world endurance championship winning car driven by timo bernhardt
00:54:19mark weber and brendan hartley so they've got every reason to push they've got every reason to bank
00:54:24home the points they've got every reason not to give up there are still 50 drivers sorry 50 drivers 150
00:54:30drivers 50 cars still running this race mike conway 5.3 ahead of mark lieb in the leading porsche in the
00:54:38battle third position overall the helicopters are starting to fly in overhead again now
00:54:44people want to get here in time for the finish and what a finish they're going to see i've just
00:54:48been outside and actually it's it's lovely it's a lovely fresh morning it's not uh not too hot the
00:54:54sun is relatively warm and i suspect by midday it's going to be very warm uh but uh no the the circuit now
00:55:02well rubbered in and this is the best of the conditions uh these guys are going to get in terms of
00:55:06visibility and everything else i think we've seen the fastest time has been set earlier this morning
00:55:11i'll be surprised to see anyone go faster now but uh yeah clear run to the end by the looks of it
00:55:19toyota one and two the gap is 22.7 seconds as into the pits comes the srt 41
00:55:24the uh garage 56 entry so they're still ticking over again i've not seen them spin i've not seen
00:55:30them hit anything i've not seen them blocking anybody stupidly just a solid run
00:55:35that's exactly what they should be doing full credit to everyone in that crew from frederick
00:55:40to christophe to jean bernard all three of the drivers all of the mechanics they've been absolutely
00:55:45spot on they're not here to win they're here to finish and they're doing so competitively yeah
00:55:49absolutely just looking at the gap now into the audi number eight we were getting quite excited that they
00:55:57might be able to pull something out of the bag they're still still setting fastest lmp1 times
00:56:03uh but they just don't seem to be able to claw that back i kind of said uh we'll look in an
00:56:08hour at the six hour point and as to where where they were and frankly uh they haven't closed the
00:56:14gap enough um i would have thought by now they'd be on the lead lap but they're actually ebbing and
00:56:20flowing between one and two laps down on the timing screen based on what's going on uh when where they are
00:56:26on on circuit so you know jarvis not being able to take the time out of the the lead cars the audi just
00:56:33not got the pace jeff jm jeff gmj i should say on twitter says what year did chicanes get added to
00:56:40the moss on straight i can help you with that one that's 1990 and uh what speed was possible before
00:56:46they were added now that is very much under debate because there are some people who can claim they were
00:56:51pushing cars at 235 some that say you could even stretch it to 240 which is mind-blowing that is
00:57:00just absolutely insanity if you ask me but uh as pure as it is to go from terre rouge all the way to
00:57:08malsan without chicanes we've seen far too many incidents in the past far too many problems and far
00:57:13too many people who are sadly no longer with us to attest to the fact we needed to put those chicanes in
00:57:19yeah absolutely just looking at the graphic on the screen now so we've got the toyota versus the
00:57:23porsche uh the gap down to three seconds between lieb and conway and just interesting to see the way
00:57:29those guys are again delivering the power and how that gap changes depending where they are on the
00:57:33straight the audi quicker on to the straight with its quattro system deploying its energy through the
00:57:38front wheels while the porsche is deploying its energy through uh through the back and uh yeah really
00:57:44romping away at the end of the straight here we go on board with the number two
00:57:51three seconds now the gap so conway's got away a bit that'll be a bit of traffic somewhere along the
00:57:56line there is conway coming up on to the back of one of the fords through the porsche curves he can get
00:58:01away with ducking through there but what that's going to mean with that three second gap is that uh
00:58:07we're going to see lieb get stuck behind them through the bit where you can't really overtake this
00:58:11section here we see a prototype going around the outside i think that i'm not used to the fact
00:58:16there's so much more runoff there than there used to be um and they couldn't couldn't do it he didn't
00:58:20get held up he managed to wait he did manage to just just just wait through i don't know whether he
00:58:24binded his time there i think at the split we're going to see that he did lose a bit of time compared
00:58:29to conway no 1.8 i think he's right out of him he's right on him took time out of him 1.8
00:58:35so uh that was smart thinking there and he's going to get past the greaves ligier no problem the gap is
00:58:40down to a second by a second it's down to 1.8 now yeah and meanwhile the gap between bohemi and conway
00:58:47the two toyotas is down to uh well it was down to 20 seconds it was down to 22 but you've got to take
00:58:52into account that bohemi has just been given the hurry up and conway's just lost for about two three
00:58:56seconds in the traffic so uh at the rate of knots he was going though conway was taking about two and
00:59:01a half seconds per lap out of bohemi in the lead so maybe bohemi's saying those tires are falling off
00:59:07again he's starting to struggle a little bit but the thing is if your tires are falling off you can't
00:59:13just dive for the pits and get a new set you've got to work to the program so you've just got to make
00:59:17the tires last as long as you physically can as we've seen with the lifting coast that's going on at
00:59:22the moment it is as much about fuel numbers as anything else uh they need to make sure they're
00:59:27on the money in terms of fuel numbers and and bringing the car home on the minimum number of
00:59:32stops so you might sacrifice a little on ultimate performance but uh bear in mind you're losing a
00:59:37minute and 10 seconds every time you bring that car through the pit lane as a minimum without taking
00:59:42tires we're on lap 300 of the lamar 24 hours there are five hours to go and the gap from first to third
00:59:51i don't believe i can't believe i'm about to say this the gap between first and third is 27 seconds
00:59:58now in the past that would be 27 laps it's 27 seconds from first to third i love the lamar 24
