00:00:00It's a very hard sport, but you have to take into account that everything you do at 24 hours a day is to go as fast as possible on the bike.
00:00:30So is that Rob Bell finally getting it? He seems to have been in this car a long time, so I guess he's switching over full service, new tyres, fuel tank, done.
00:00:41So he's handed that car, he's brought that car up really well up to third place now.
00:00:46They had dropped right down the order, but he's, you know, he's in with two new drivers, two rookies to Le Mans, so it was always going to be a difficult task for him.
00:00:55He's on his way again, though. Shiny Ferrari.
00:01:06Audi just, they must just wonder what they've got to do this year.
00:01:11Okay, so this is, as Peter was just saying, this is the 84 car, this is Frederick Susset.
00:01:20Quadruple amputee, as you can see there.
00:01:23Anthony Davison tweeting earlier on that he's just got huge respect for what this guy is going out there and doing and achieving a lifetime's ambition of competing at Le Mans.
00:01:37And he was lowered into the car there, and he was then lifted out.
00:01:42Now, you might be wondering, how is he going to get out of that car in that situation?
00:01:47His seat has got compressed air underneath it, so he presses a button or something if he's stuck, and it basically lifts him up a bit like an ejector seat.
00:01:58This is the 40, was that the 46 car? I think it was.
00:02:03Yeah, that was.
00:02:04Yeah, that was.
00:02:04I was going to say, they were our leaders, weren't they, remember?
00:02:08Because those first three were only 26 seconds apart.
00:02:10So, he was the leader in that category.
00:02:12He's obviously dropped to second, and Menzies goes in.
00:02:15Will Stevens might, might get past him as well into the, I've got a feeling this is Will Stevens coming towards us.
00:02:25Yeah, it was right in front of us now.
00:02:26Yeah, this is Will Stevens, and Will Stevens could go up to second.
00:02:30Yep, again, pit stop strategy and everything like that.
00:02:32And, uh, the pit stop strategy and everything will change it around, and we're about to hit halfway.
00:02:4312 hours and five seconds has been complete.
00:02:47We are on the verge of half distance of the 24 hours of Le Mans.
00:02:52We are now into the second half of the race.
00:02:54The 84th running of the two, of the Le Mans 24 hours.
00:02:58It's a 2016 edition, and from now on, you're heading home.
00:03:06It's a long way to go still, but you are kind of, right, we've got this far.
00:03:10And that takes us to our halfway point of our stint here in the commentary box.
00:03:15Three more hours of us, I'm afraid.
00:03:17Yeah, unfortunately for you lot listening, and mainly in the States, I mean, there's a couple of Australians being in.
00:03:23Uh, being on the, on the Twitter and Instagram and everything like that.
00:03:27Twitter, not more than Instagram.
00:03:29But I'm just thinking it's, uh, three o'clock in the morning in mainland Europe, and one, two o'clock in the morning in the UK.
00:03:36So, uh, there is a lot of people still around the world tuning in and listening, which is brilliant.
00:03:42We are talking, um, we are going quite, not off script, so to speak.
00:03:49We are answering questions that people want answering, which is, I think, is important.
00:03:53Well, this is the slot.
00:03:55This is the graveyard slot where we answer these questions, because, uh, obviously you can't see all that much out there.
00:04:03And, uh, nothing much is changing.
00:04:06Okay, we're getting the odd breakdowns from number seven.
00:04:10Fassler's just broken down again.
00:04:12Um.
00:04:13I'm going to say, I'm waiting for him to come into the pits.
00:04:14He hasn't even got round here yet.
00:04:16No.
00:04:16If you wonder how we, uh, split up the shifts, uh, within the two, uh, commentary teams, the Audi number eight is waiting as well.
00:04:31Um.
00:04:32That's Holly Jarvis.
00:04:33Yeah.
00:04:33Currently out in that one.
00:04:36Sitting two laps down from the leader, Kobayashi.
00:04:39He didn't seem to have been out in that car for very long, but.
00:04:41But, yeah, basically we, we split up the shifts.
00:04:45We've got 24 hours of racing, so we'll do, and we, we start half an hour before the start, and we, there's the Audi.
00:04:52Is that the Audi?
00:04:52That's smoking going at the back, isn't it?
00:04:54Yeah.
00:04:54I don't know whether, is that an Audi or not?
00:04:56It looked like it had a white bottom.
00:04:57I think it has to be.
00:04:58It is a seven.
00:04:59Yeah, it's got to be.
00:05:00It is a seven.
00:05:00We, uh, we, we basically have a 25-hour broadcast, half an hour before the start, half an hour after the finish, and, uh, we split it exactly down the middle.
00:05:09And two years ago, when I worked on Le Mans with Peter, we did this shift, the, the, the 12, the 12 midnight to 6 a.m., and we picked it again.
00:05:18And then, Peter, just before we started, uh, kind of, uh, broadcasting, once we decided what shifts are going, he goes, how come we've ended up with the same shift again?
00:05:29And I said, because we picked it.
00:05:30So, uh, there was a bit of a calculation error when we were picking our shifts.
00:05:36On the plus side, we should be quite tired by the time we get off air, so, at 6 o'clock.
00:05:40Yeah, because I wasn't tired at midnight.
00:05:41I was not tired at midnight.
00:05:43The Audi 8 is in.
00:05:44This is the one that's running okay.
00:05:46It's currently running in fourth place.
00:05:48It's flashing the headlights.
00:05:49He's obviously spotted his pit man.
00:05:52And I asked you about that, didn't I, in the qualifying session.
00:05:55Uh, what do you do?
00:05:57Uh, it's quite quiet in the pit lane right at this minute.
00:06:00But, uh, how do you know exactly when to turn in?
00:06:04And particularly when it's busy, and...
00:06:06Well, that, that is the trickiest time, when it is busy.
00:06:08But you've, you've kind of recorded, uh, a few visual kind of reference points, points that you can refer back to when it is busy.
00:06:17And, yeah, as long as you've got them in your mind when you come in, now it's dead easy, because he's the only car there, and his pit man is waving his lollipop around, and he knows exactly where to go.
00:06:29But, yeah, when, when there's, uh, when it's very busy, then you really have to know where you are in the pit lane as far as how far down the pit lane.
00:06:37Audi, again, pretty easy, because they're near the end.
00:06:40So, um, yeah, that's, that's the sort of thing you do.
00:06:44It's, it's, it's all, it's natural to think about these things as a driver.
00:06:49You just, it's, it's part of the process.
00:06:50And, uh, I'll tell you what I did kind of find fascinating was a conversation that, that you were having that I was listening into, uh, as Jarvis is on his outlet.
00:07:01We're still waiting for the seven car to make it back to the pits, going very slowly with some kind of issue.
00:07:08Breaking points.
00:07:10Markers and breaking points.
00:07:11Landmarks.
00:07:12Uh, and, uh, you said there's two types of breakers.
00:07:16There's the natural breaker, which is in your stomach of, oh, I need to break now.
00:07:20Yeah.
00:07:20Or landmarks.
00:07:21Yeah.
00:07:22And, yeah, the seven car is in the pits.
00:07:27We're going to come back to natural breaking and points.
00:07:30The seven car is on pit road.
00:07:34So, uh, I think Anthony is in the pits as well.
00:07:37So, uh, I don't know where exactly he is.
00:07:39I suspect he's at Audi.
00:07:40And we'll, uh, see what we can find out.
00:07:44But that's about the speed.
00:07:46It's gone.
00:07:47And what did we see earlier on?
00:07:48We're stuck.
00:07:50Yeah, we're ready, Anthony.
00:07:51Let's go to you.
00:07:52Yes.
00:07:52I'm in a Ferrari garage, not Audi.
00:07:56I'm with Emmanuel Collard.
00:07:57Uh, 20 seconds participation here at Le Mans.
00:08:00You are always very, very fast.
00:08:03And we've seen that as well.
00:08:04So, so far it's running well.
00:08:08Yes.
00:08:08We just had a beginning, uh, gearbox problem.
00:08:11So we lost two laps.
00:08:14But we are catching, uh, at the front.
00:08:17So it's not so bad at the moment.
00:08:20And we've seen as well that you're very important in the team.
00:08:23I mean, uh, you drive a lot, a lot, a lot.
00:08:26So is it, uh, something strategical?
00:08:28Yeah, we try to trip our stint every time with me and we during the night.
00:08:33So it's tough.
00:08:35It's not easy.
00:08:36Yeah.
00:08:36I can see that, uh, for your foot, for instance, then it's not that, uh, that easy.
00:08:40No, no, especially with the foot on the braking, uh, we are, we press a lot, the brakes, 90, 90 bars on the, every braking.
00:08:49So it's, uh, it's painful at the end.
00:08:53And, uh, what is the aim at the end of the race?
00:08:56Is the win possible for you?
00:08:57You never know here.
00:08:59It's never finished.
00:09:00We were 10, uh, 10, uh, 10 hours ago.
00:09:05Now we are fighting for the podium.
00:09:06So we still have a long way to go.
00:09:08Thank you very much, Manny.
00:09:11Thank you for that.
00:09:12That's great.
00:09:14Uh, right.
00:09:14The number seven car has came into the pit.
00:09:18It took ages to get into the pits.
00:09:20It's last lap, 14 minutes, 38 seconds, compared to what it should be doing at three minutes, 30-ish.
00:09:28And they changed the driver.
00:09:30They put the fuel in.
00:09:31They changed the tyres.
00:09:33And obviously did something else.
00:09:35Whoa.
00:09:35Because it's now going at full speed.
00:09:36Yeah.
00:09:36Unless it run out of fuel.
00:09:38No.
00:09:39No.
00:09:40I can't, I can't, no, I can't believe that.
00:09:43Um, but what, what, what you did see there, and it's still registering Fastler in the car, but it's actually Lutter.
00:09:50Um, on the driver's, uh, helmet jack point, um, it registered.
00:09:57It registers his ID, and Lutter forgot to plug his in.
00:10:01You could see it, him grabbing it just after he left the pits and plugging it in.
00:10:06And, uh, that's basically next time around it will register that it's him in the car.
00:10:10Um, and it just, it kind of shows you how flustered they are.
00:10:14That's something that he would never forget.
00:10:16And he's, he's forgotten it.
00:10:17You know, it's, yeah, it's just not going well for car seven.
00:10:22So it'd be nice to know why they were, he was, uh, Fastler was pulled over for so long.
00:10:27And then he came around real slow.
00:10:30And then, yeah, the car just fired up as normal.
00:10:32Okay, this is the 69, yep, that is the 69 Ferrari.
00:10:40This is in, uh, Ferrari Ford.
00:10:42It is in second place behind the Ferrari.
00:10:44The 82 Ferrari has just been into the pits and is now on an out lap.
00:10:47So, uh, virtually on the same kind of strategy wise coming in, just the gap between them is the, in the pits is the time it's taking for them to catch, which is approximately 40 or seconds at the moment when that Ford came in.
00:11:02So, uh, they are on their way back out.
00:11:07Yeah, that, that number seven Audi's trundling around 14 minutes.
00:11:11It's like 11 minutes off the pace for one lap.
00:11:14And then, yeah, judging by, yeah, judging by his, uh, second sector, it's not that quick right enough, but he's cut us back at that sort of normal pace.
00:11:25I got a feeling we just, that it's just been a change of position.
00:11:28Is that Joey hand who's just gone past it to Ford overtaking a Ford?
00:11:33It's got to go to the next, will it have, will it update to the next sector?
00:11:36Yeah, because, uh, Briscoe's just left the pits.
00:11:38So that, yeah, that's a change of position, second, third, um, but obviously Joey hand on a different pit strategy.
00:11:50And if I'm honest, I can't remember whether he's, I guess he has stopped, hasn't he?
00:11:56What do you reckon?
00:11:57Which one?
00:11:57Yeah, we, we, we know that the 69 pitting, Joey hand must be pitting at some point.
00:12:08Um, what I don't understand.
00:12:11Right, yes, and, uh, Stefan Mooker is currently in the pits, so he's pitting from sixth place.
00:12:16That's, that's the car that had the slight issue with the, the number, wasn't it?
00:12:22The number, yep.
00:12:23What I don't understand.
00:12:25Audi number seven have just tweeted, fuel, new tyres, back out, and, uh, back without going into the garage.
00:12:35So, so they, they managed to fix something on that car that they can do in pit road.
00:12:40Yeah, it could just be plugging.
00:12:41A reset or something.
00:12:42Yeah, plug in the computer, reset, and go.
00:12:44So, uh, that's it.
00:12:51So it is Kobayashi, just to look at the front of the field.
00:12:54Kobayashi leading, Roman Dumas in second, Anthony Davidson in third, Oli Jarvis in fourth.
00:12:59Then it's the, the rebellion, uh, of Krennerhammer is in fifth place with the seven Audi in sixth.
00:13:08Right, got some more tweets come in.
00:13:10Uh, watching from Philadelphia, do you think the BOP adjustment, the last minute, and the last minute refusal hurt Corvette's pace this year?
00:13:23Well, well, Peter's more au fait with BOP, balance of performance, et cetera.
00:13:30But it does seem, if we're totally honest with you, that Corvette have just, Corvette got a break.
00:13:37Yeah, and it's still not working.
00:13:38And it's still not enough.
00:13:40Whereas, you know, we talked about the Aston, they've got the same break.
00:13:43And, uh, okay, they're not, he's, you know, Sorensen and the Aston is not on the pace of the three cars ahead.
00:13:52But he is still fourth.
00:13:53So, yeah, I mean, Chevy are coming back.
00:13:59As, um, Ricky Taylor was talking about, he's, they're running their own race.
00:14:04They're not worried about anyone else, which is the right thing to do.
00:14:07We're halfway through.
00:14:08Anything can happen up the front.
00:14:10And, uh, it's not always the quickest team that win it.
00:14:13It's, you know, it's the ones that survive.
00:14:16They, they do the right job, job as drivers.
00:14:19They're reliable and experienced around the track.
00:14:22And those Corvette guys are, and winners last year with Ollie Gavin.
00:14:26So, um, no, certainly not over.
00:14:29But impressive from Ferrari, taking the fight to Ford.
00:14:35Lap time-wise, Malicelli's been doing a good job.
00:14:39And he's had a troubled last couple of years.
00:14:41I mean, he was, he was one of the chosen boys at Ferrari for a while.
00:14:45And, uh, he had a couple of dodgy episodes in Sebring and in Daytona where, you know, sizable shunts,
00:14:52um, which kind of took him off the radar a little bit.
00:14:55And they, they brought him home and they maybe put him into some Italian GT.
00:14:59And here he is back again in, in, in one of the main cars and, uh, leading the race.
00:15:03So it's good to see that he's back.
00:15:05He's, he was always a fast driver, but I think he just got unlucky a couple of times.
00:15:09He was over in the States and made the wrong call.
00:15:12I remember him spinning at the first corner at Sebring and pulling back onto the circuit
00:15:18and basically getting collected by another car, um, because he really didn't look where
00:15:23he was going.
00:15:24So, um, everyone makes mistakes as I've already said.
00:15:28So, you know, unfortunately there, but it's good that he's back in the car and did a good
00:15:32job and hopefully he can carry on doing that job.
00:15:35That's it.
00:15:35Oh, I don't know what was really going on there.
00:15:37There was two GT cars with a P, I think it was a P2 car.
00:15:42Basically was trying to get out of the way of something else.
00:15:46And, uh, in the end had to be, uh, they didn't, no one, no one clipped each other or anything.
00:15:52I used to, yeah, the P2 car was trying to get out of the way, the rebellion, and in the
00:15:55end kind of blocked to quite a few other things through.
00:15:59Uh, yeah.
00:15:59So we've got Philadelphia, which was that last question.
00:16:02We've got Colorado.
00:16:04Who do you think will, uh, this is, uh, Trip Starkey.
00:16:06Who do you think will have the best reliability in the final 12 hours?
00:16:10Well, there's, there's, there's three top line P1 hybrid cars.
00:16:18And I'm not going to name names, but there's only, there's one team out of those that's so
00:16:23far had a good run because, uh, the other two have had some problems.
00:16:27Yeah.
00:16:27So, uh, that, that's as far as I'm going with that rather than naming names.
00:16:32Uh, but yeah, I mean, yeah, there's, there's, that's the thing this year.
00:16:36There's, there's, uh, Toyota have got their normal two cars here.
00:16:40Porsche one less car than one fewer car than, uh, last year and Audi one fewer car.
00:16:47So it kind of brings the numbers down a bit and it, you know, it makes it possible for one
00:16:54of the guys that you don't expect to do well, to actually do well.
00:16:58So here, here we have a rebellion number 13 sitting in fifth place right now.
00:17:02And all it takes is a couple of dodgy episodes ahead with any, anyone.
00:17:08And all of a sudden they could be on the podium overall at Le Mans 24 hours, which, you know,
00:17:12would be a great achievement as far as the other cars, Toyota, to me, they have the pace
00:17:19and, and I would like to see them do well, but I, I just don't know about the reliability.
00:17:24And, and in the past with the Porsche, okay, we've had problems with car one, but so far
00:17:30car two has gone pretty well.
00:17:32And, you know, the one last year, I don't know, it's a, it's a hard one to call.
00:17:39Lotter, Lotter has gone real quick now as well.
00:17:42You know, you see, frustration is maybe that's what it is.
00:17:44He's just driving the wheels off the thing.
00:17:46Yeah, he's, yeah, he's driving the wheels off, he's trying to break it so they can just
00:17:52go home.
00:17:53Wow, they're so fed up.
00:17:54One or the other.
00:17:55But, um, a question for you here from Jason Anthony.
00:17:59Um, Peter, you've, you've driven GT1 cars.
00:18:03Are today's GT class, class cars, close to the same level as the old GT1s?
00:18:12Um.
00:18:13I, I, again, if we go back, I'm sure I saw someone mention that, actually, the, the pace
00:18:23of the sort of 2008 GT1 cars around here were similar to what they're doing now in GTE.
00:18:32So, yeah, technology has brought them forward.
00:18:36You know, these new Fords and Ferraris, um, they're blinding bits of kit.
00:18:41They're so, they're totally designed for the new regulations.
00:18:45They've done a fantastic job.
00:18:46In fact, such a good job that they've had to peg them back because, um, Corvette, Aston,
00:18:52and Porsche can't keep up.
00:18:54So, they've had to level them off with the BOP.
00:18:58So, yeah, they, these new ones are good.
00:19:00But, I mean, there's been different GT1 as a, as a class has changed so many times over
00:19:06the years.
00:19:07I mean, those, those Porsches from back in 98, um, that, that won here, they were GT1 cars.
00:19:16So, you know, the, the class itself has changed.
00:19:19Then GT1 came as a world championship in 2010.
00:19:23I was driving in Nissan then.
00:19:25We still had sequential gearbox, no paddle shifts.
00:19:29Uh, we had no ABS, no traction control.
00:19:32And, and those Nissan GT1s were fantastic to drive, 2010, 2011.
00:19:36But then they kind of, they killed themselves because, again, it was costing too much money.
00:19:41And, uh, GTE has reigned supreme at Le Mans.
00:19:47And then there's GT3 happening pretty much everywhere else in the world.
00:19:51So, uh, yeah, I think there still is a place for both.
00:19:56But, you know, I can, I can see the future maybe being GT3 cars more rather than GTE cars.
00:20:05Right.
00:20:05I mean, we're getting, we're getting loads of this.
00:20:08We're getting loads of stopping, which is great.
00:20:10Because people obviously are watching us, which is really important.
00:20:13And people obviously, well, hopefully enjoying it.
00:20:16But getting some answers to questions that they want.
00:20:19Now, Anthony Peacock, who is actually one of probably the most frustrated people in the world right now.
00:20:26Because he's at the European Grand Prix.
00:20:29Uh, and would much prefer to be at Le Mans.
00:20:31Because Le Mans is the highlight of the year.
00:20:32But he's, uh, he's at the Grand Prix of Europe, which is in Bacow, uh, in Azerbaijan.
00:20:39Uh, we just watched the Signatech 36 card.
00:20:43Yeah, we're just getting a replay of the 4th chicane.
00:20:45And it just gives an example of the curve that they're taking there.
00:20:48Uh, we just got, we're going through a replay situation.
00:20:51Because, uh, it's normally on the turn of the hour.
00:20:53Anyway, going back to Anthony Peacock.
00:20:56He, basically, he's been up all night.
00:20:59He's been at the Grand Prix all day in the paddock.
00:21:02And he's been up all night.
00:21:03And, uh, he, he reckons he's not the only one within the Formula One fraternity who have been up all night.
00:21:10But he has an intriguing possibility.
00:21:13It couldn't happen this year, or it was easily made a decision.
00:21:18And bear with me when I go through this one.
00:21:21You touched on it.
00:21:22Porsche have come with only two cars this year.
00:21:24Last year, they came with a third car.
00:21:26The third car wasn't meant to win, but did.
00:21:29Oh, Bamba, Nick Tandy, Nico Hülkenberg.
00:21:31Nico Hülkenberg is doing the Grand Prix.
00:21:35And did we hear somewhere this week, or was I making this up, or completely?
00:21:39We have heard things, yes.
00:21:41What do you want to know?
00:21:42Well, what we heard was, because it was a Grand Prix,
00:21:45it was quite easy to make a decision of only two Porsches.
00:21:47Yeah, so they didn't have to worry about upsetting drivers.
00:21:51But, theoretically, because Azerbaijan is two hours further forward than us,
00:21:57Anthony Peacock worked out that Nico Hülkenberg potentially could have done,
00:22:00like, the practice and the qualifying, done his time,
00:22:05gone back to Bacau to do free practice one, free practice two,
00:22:09come back to Le Mans, and he then could have done his,
00:22:12he could have arrived about 6 p.m. on Saturday here to do the Le Mans race,
00:22:19drive a Le Mans for a few stints, leave Sunday mid-morning,
00:22:22and be back in Bacau for the Grand Prix start at 5 p.m.
00:22:28That would have been some kind of movement for Nico Hülkenberg.
00:22:33So, it was, I know he really, Nico Hülkenberg was very, very disappointed
00:22:38that he couldn't come back.
00:22:39But Anthony, our Anthony, not Anthony Peacock, our Anthony in the pits has got somebody.
00:22:44Yes, I'm in the Audi garage next to Dr. Ulrich to have a bit of update about the 7 car
00:22:51and the number 8 as well.
00:22:53So, Dr. Ulrich, how is it going so far for the number 7?
00:22:57We didn't really understand what happened.
00:23:00Yeah, the number 7 car just had a problem after braking too late and going straight in a corner.
00:23:08Yeah, then he stopped and didn't manage to engage first gear.
00:23:17But then he started to drive on the electric power only
00:23:20and then he could engage the first gear and continue.
00:23:24Okay, so that was not that...
00:23:25So, that's good news.
00:23:28And regarding the number 8, still in the hunt for the win.
00:23:31So, that's pretty good after some issues earlier on.
00:23:35Yeah, there have been some small issues.
00:23:37Basically, the car number 8 is running.
00:23:41We have been struggling a little bit with the speed when the temperatures went down.
00:23:46But I think we will improve if the day is coming back.
00:23:50And we can say that, of course, it's not a surprise for you maybe,
00:23:54but Toyota is really fast this year
00:23:56and the hunt for the victory is, as ever, really, really hard.
00:24:02No, this is not a surprise for us.
00:24:04I always said that I rate Toyota and Porsche on a very, very high level.
00:24:09They have done a great job.
00:24:10And until now, they are running quick and reliant.
00:24:14And this is the reason why they are in front.
00:24:17And this is as well the Porsche.
00:24:19He's a little bit quicker.
00:24:21And we will see how it runs to the end.
00:24:24Last question.
00:24:25We know that usually Audi runs free cars.
00:24:30Did it change something in your strategy to have only two cars this year?
00:24:35No, it didn't change anything.
00:24:36It's the same situation for everybody.
00:24:38Everybody has two cars.
00:24:40Thank you very much.
00:24:42Thank you for that, Anthony.
00:24:44We've got news just on our screen.
00:24:47A one-minute stop-and-go penalty for car 55.
00:24:50So that's, yeah, Aaron Scott in sixth place.
00:24:54Amcar, unfortunate for him.
00:24:56First time here.
00:24:57We were talking to him a couple of days ago.
00:25:01Him and Matt Griffin sharing a car and Duncan Cameron.
00:25:05Unfortunate for him.
00:25:06But, yeah, I'm not sure quite what happened there.
00:25:10He must be, you know, he's a very experienced driver away from Le Mans.
00:25:14So he knows the situation.
00:25:16And they were doing quite well.
00:25:17Gradually coming up the order.
00:25:19Of course, a long way to go.
00:25:20So there's no big problems at the moment.
00:25:23And one minute is not the end of the world, is it?
00:25:27But, yeah, unfortunately, it's going to halt the run for a little while.
00:25:34This is car 55.
00:25:36The iron Scott car, yes.
00:25:38Right.
00:25:38Now, you're friends with these people, but Wikipedia have got some great stuff on that car.
00:25:43Wikipedia's got some great stuff.
00:25:45The Duncan Cameron, according to Wikipedia, I am going to, I've studied it, but I'm going to blame Wikipedia if it's wrong.
00:25:55He had a 47%.
00:25:56One second, one second.
00:25:57Let's just look at that.
00:25:58That was a position change.
00:25:59That was Townsend Bell.
00:26:01Just going ball by the Porsche of 88 Alcobesi.
00:26:07So position change.
00:26:08First place to Townsend Bell now in the GT arm.
00:26:11So the first time Ferrari's been in the lead of this race, isn't it?
00:26:14I mean, Porsche's been up there the whole time, it seems.
00:26:17Yeah.
00:26:18So Ferrari now up in there.
00:26:21Ferrari now leading both GTE categories, which is in the round one and two of the championship has been a regular thing.
00:26:29But this weekend hasn't.
00:26:30So Ferrari's first in both categories there.
00:26:35Going back to the 55 card.
00:26:36Duncan Cameron, if Wikipedia's wrong, I do apologize.
00:26:40He had a 47% stake in moneysupermarket.com, which he sold in 2007 for 162 million pounds.
00:26:50Wow.
00:26:50Describes himself as a bloke with kids who likes to race.
00:26:55Well, with that kind of money, you can race.
00:26:57Aaron Scott is a racing driver coach.
00:27:00His ambition has always been to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
00:27:04So he's achieving one of his lifetime ambitions.
00:27:07Excellent.
00:27:07And I've got another bit of knowledge.
00:27:10His father is one of the clerks of the course in British racing.
00:27:16And, yeah, in fact, I've raced under his father at times as well.
00:27:20Keeping an eye on you.
00:27:21And his sister, three years ago, did the television job for us down in the pit.
00:27:28She did all the interviewing.
00:27:30Gemma.
00:27:30Gemma Scott.
00:27:31Oh, God.
00:27:32There you go.
00:27:34Two years ago.
00:27:35Was she the lady who drove us back to the airport?
00:27:37Yes, and she drove us to the airport.
00:27:40She drove us to the airport.
00:27:41And we made it.
00:27:42We made it a slight.
00:27:43Well, I had a bit more time than you guys.
00:27:45You just ran like the wind to get there.
00:27:47The 36 car, that is our leader in P2.
00:27:50That is into the pits.
00:27:52Just one more.
00:27:52So, yeah, Gustafo's been in that car a long time, hasn't he?
00:27:55He is.
00:27:56Yeah.
00:27:56Surely, I think, surely we've seen, no, same tyres, same driver, surely.
00:28:04When he gets registered, Mark Lieb getting ready now.
00:28:06He will step aboard the number two Porsche, which is 47, 48 seconds away.
00:28:14Well, it has been catching.
00:28:15That last lap, he's lost a little bit of time.
00:28:18But it's been gradually reeling in Kobayashi.
00:28:21To finish off with this, and Matt Griffin, obviously, you know quite well,
00:28:26the only Irishman to stand on the podium at Le Mans.
00:28:30Obviously, a podium as in not just the main podium,
00:28:33but obviously each category gets a stand on the podium.
00:28:37So, the only Irishman to stand on the podium there.
00:28:39But, yeah, this is the five car.
00:28:41This is Davison in the pits now.
00:28:43So, we've got a round of pit stops going on.
00:28:45But, yeah, Dumas was starting to, well, he kind of for a while
00:28:50has been clawing a little bit of time back on Kobayashi.
00:28:53But Kobayashi does seem very, very strong.
00:28:56The Toyotas do seem very strong.
00:29:02I don't know why, but at night, I mean, there is very busy sections of the track
00:29:06where there's a lot of cars around.
00:29:07But, bearing in mind, there is only, when I go down my list, still,
00:29:15bearing in mind, ladies and gentlemen, we are, let's just see,
00:29:19we are nearly 12 and a half hours into this race.
00:29:23And we've got four cars with S's against their name,
00:29:28basically meaning stopped.
00:29:30So, still 56 running.
00:29:33It's quite staggering, 12 and a half hours in.
00:29:36That is impressive.
00:29:37That's very, very unusual.
00:29:40Considering that rain at the start, I mean, we've had nice weather since then
00:29:43and it's rubbered the track up.
00:29:46So, we've got another stop-go penalty for 26.
00:29:48You know who that is?
00:29:49That's the G-Drive car.
00:29:51That was the car that was in, when I flicked my results back,
00:29:54that's the car that was in second place, I think, or third place in P.
00:29:58Second place car.
00:29:59Well, Stephens, yeah.
00:30:00One minute, and for car 27 as well.
00:30:03Right, so there's been a spate of them.
00:30:05That's Maurizio Mediani.
00:30:09So, three stop-and-goes there, three different crews.
00:30:12That is interesting because it's, you know,
00:30:16I kind of referred to that before,
00:30:18how when you get a glut of them like that,
00:30:21it means that something's not quite right.
00:30:24Number one Porsche just on pit road, but carry on.
00:30:28Yeah, I think that it could be a number of things,
00:30:32but, you know, for several drivers to have missed it
00:30:36and to all get penalised at the same time,
00:30:39then, yeah, there's a reason for that normally.
00:30:44OK, just getting news, some Anthony in the pits,
00:30:58the 84 car has a clutch problem.
00:31:02Smoking bricks from number one as well.
00:31:04Tell you what, I can't even remember who's in this one car now.
00:31:12Hartley.
00:31:13Yeah, I remember.
00:31:15He had issues.
00:31:16I didn't know.
00:31:17So long ago when he first got in that car.
00:31:19He had a lot of hanging around,
00:31:20and then he had to go out and do his whatever,
00:31:22triple or quadruple stint.
00:31:24Brendan Hartley got into that car.
00:31:26We went and had dinner when we finished at nine.
00:31:30We then went in down into the paddock,
00:31:33had a bit of a look around the paddock,
00:31:35came back.
00:31:35I sat on this crate outside the commentary box
00:31:38and watched the car for a bit.
00:31:40And then I went into the TV truck
00:31:41to watch all the monitors.
00:31:44Brendan Hartley got in his car then.
00:31:45And I thought,
00:31:48you said you're going to go and have a bit of a rest,
00:31:50lie down.
00:31:50I looked at my watch and I thought,
00:31:52the hour before we're back on air.
00:31:54So this is 11 o'clock.
00:31:56And I thought, right,
00:31:57just when it gets to 11 o'clock,
00:31:58I'm going to go to my caravan and have a bit of a rest.
00:32:02And that was when Brendan came back into the pits.
00:32:05Was just around the 11 o'clock.
00:32:07It's half past three now.
00:32:09He's hardly done any laps,
00:32:10but he's been in and out of that car.
00:32:12Apart from it, I bet he's starving.
00:32:13Yeah, I bet he's starving.
00:32:15Yeah.
00:32:16I don't know.
00:32:16He did have a couple of breaks.
00:32:17He had nearly an hour after one lap.
00:32:20Do you think he had like fish and chips or something?
00:32:21I don't know.
00:32:22But yeah, I bet he's...
00:32:25God, and as you say,
00:32:26it must be so frustrating
00:32:29and so soul-destroying
00:32:31because anything can happen in motor racing.
00:32:34But for that car to come back from 24th
00:32:36to be on the podium...
00:32:3849th now.
00:32:4049th after the second...
00:32:41Because he went back in, remember,
00:32:43for 45, 50 minutes.
00:32:44So, yeah.
00:32:46And as you say,
00:32:48it's still...
00:32:49At the end of the day,
00:32:50he's being paid to do a job.
00:32:52And his job is to drive that car.
00:32:53As fast as he possibly can.
00:32:56And you know,
00:32:56if he can somehow take away
00:32:58the fastest lap or something,
00:33:00that's the last thing he's got to hold on to.
00:33:02He can have the fastest lap of the race.
00:33:04It's so difficult.
00:33:09More time off Kobayashi.
00:33:11Six seconds off him that lap.
00:33:14Obviously...
00:33:14Low fuel...
00:33:15Bit of traffic from him and Dumas
00:33:19just took six seconds off him.
00:33:20Davidson in car number five now.
00:33:28My lap chart's gone out the window.
00:33:31Yeah, the lap chart's gone.
00:33:32Completely lost track of when people are stopping.
00:33:34We've got...
00:33:35A lap chart's gone out the window.
00:33:36All we know...
00:33:37Twitter has gone crazy.
00:33:39Right.
00:33:39Twitter has gone crazy.
00:33:40Let's answer some Twitter questions.
00:33:42At least we're keeping people happy.
00:33:44I mean,
00:33:45the number six is in.
00:33:46This is the Kobayashi car.
00:33:48So,
00:33:49they're giving you a bit of a clean.
00:33:51Cleaning up the numbers and everything.
00:33:53Is that damage on the side?
00:33:55Just above there?
00:33:56No, maybe not.
00:33:57Just looked a bit...
00:33:59They're looking at the brakes.
00:34:00Yep.
00:34:00Just general check over.
00:34:03Getting themselves sorted.
00:34:07Kobayashi staying in the car.
00:34:08This man's not...
00:34:09It's not a gun he's got.
00:34:10That's a starter, isn't it?
00:34:12The little thing that looked like a gun out the back.
00:34:15There was a mechanic stood there.
00:34:16It just looked like a...
00:34:18It looked like a pressure washer handle.
00:34:19Right.
00:34:20But I suspect it's the starter that you've ever been putting in the back if the car fails.
00:34:24But Dumas now in front.
00:34:27But he will be due a pit stop.
00:34:28But that's pure and simply because Kobayashi has been stopped.
00:34:32Dumbrec underscore fan.
00:34:33Most of your listeners are from the US.
00:34:36So I think we have to have a shout.
00:34:38Shout hello to Tokyo.
00:34:41So we're in Japan as well now.
00:34:43We're big in Japan.
00:34:44Excellent.
00:34:44We love Japan.
00:34:45Yeah.
00:34:46Well, I'm not sure.
00:34:47I've entered Japan three or four times.
00:34:48I did struggle in Japan.
00:34:49You what?
00:34:50I did struggle in Japan.
00:34:52I was so bad in Japan.
00:34:54You just...
00:34:55You needed...
00:34:56I don't do fish.
00:34:56Tomoko to show you around Tokyo.
00:34:58I don't do sushi or anything.
00:34:59I was so bad in Japan.
00:35:01I got better.
00:35:02Yeah, but I'm not a sushi eater.
00:35:04But you can eat pretty much anything there.
00:35:07It's a big city.
00:35:08I did eat...
00:35:08And the food is tremendous.
00:35:10I ate McDonald's.
00:35:11Oh.
00:35:12So I did.
00:35:13The first two years I ate McDonald's.
00:35:16Oh, man.
00:35:16I did in the end...
00:35:17What is it?
00:35:18Tapernyaki when you cook your own meat?
00:35:20Tapernyaki.
00:35:20Yeah.
00:35:21I did that in the end.
00:35:22Oh, do you mean...
00:35:24When you boil your own meat or something?
00:35:25Boiling, yeah.
00:35:26It's tapernyaki.
00:35:27Yeah, yeah.
00:35:27I've done that.
00:35:28I've done that.
00:35:29But that was a...
00:35:29Or shabu-shabu.
00:35:30Shabu-shabu.
00:35:31One of those.
00:35:32Yeah.
00:35:33Shabu-shabu.
00:35:33Tomoko, you don't need to answer that question.
00:35:35It's okay.
00:35:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:35:36We've done that.
00:35:37We've done that.
00:35:38I have done Japan.
00:35:40I've done Japan.
00:35:44Right.
00:35:44Here we go.
00:35:46Dad, tapernyaki is a Korean barbecue.
00:35:49That's the cooking the meat on the kind of grill.
00:35:53So it must be...
00:35:54That's my favorite.
00:35:56Yeah.
00:35:56Okay.
00:35:57Real quick.
00:35:57In the boiling water.
00:35:58Yeah, that's shabu-shabu, I think.
00:36:00Shabu-shabu, right.
00:36:01Okay.
00:36:01Well, we'll get an answer if we're wrong on that one.
00:36:03As we continue, the gap between Dumas and Kobayashi is 26 and a half seconds.
00:36:08This is the G-Drive car.
00:36:09This car has either served, it's a one-minute penalty, so it probably can't wait there, can't
00:36:15it, afterwards or not?
00:36:17No.
00:36:17No.
00:36:18Normally, it has to come separately.
00:36:20And this looks like...
00:36:21Oh, is it waiting and they're allowed to clean the window?
00:36:24I know they're putting fuel in as well.
00:36:26So, no, it has to come back then.
00:36:28Yeah.
00:36:31Here is...
00:36:32I don't know 100% the answer to this question.
00:36:35That's why you're in the commentary box for me, Peter.
00:36:37But the gentleman is right.
00:36:39I think it's Zach.
00:36:42Zach Buchan?
00:36:43Why do GT cars run yellow headlights?
00:36:47Also, can you do a shout-out for the members of Model F1?
00:36:53Shrubit?
00:36:54Subreddit.
00:36:57Subreddit.
00:36:57Model F1 subreddit.
00:37:00Okay, right.
00:37:02Obviously, he has pointed out, and if you're new to Le Mans, the P1 and the P2 cars have
00:37:07white headlights, which you can see right up the back of this Aston Martin.
00:37:11This is one of our Porsches.
00:37:13Now, when you go past, you can see yellow headlights, which is on the GTE cars.
00:37:18Pure and simply, I believe, just to distinguish at high speed.
00:37:22Yeah.
00:37:22What is coming or what is not coming?
00:37:26You know, for many reasons.
00:37:28You know, if there's a GT car behind you, obviously, they're not coming as quick as a P1 would be coming,
00:37:36and you want to know if the P1 is coming because there's been some massive crashes here in the past.
00:37:43Anthony Davidson's, a few years back when he basically broke his back on the way down to Mulsanne Corner,
00:37:51there was a tangle between him and a Ferrari.
00:37:53And so, you know, these things happen, and they do what they can do to stop them.
00:37:59And one of the things is having different light colors, and, you know, it's very difficult to stop them completely.
00:38:07But, again, I'm going to knock on wood because, so far, so good.
00:38:12There's been very few accidents in this race.
00:38:15It's almost unheard of.
00:38:18I see it being the odd person into the gravel and things like that.
00:38:20Now, but, you know, again, going back to, we've mentioned it quite a few times because I was out on the track yesterday morning.
00:38:28It seems like it was a week ago now, but, yeah, driving around in the Aston Martin Vulcan.
00:38:34And the changes since I last drove here, so we've got Danny Watts in the pits now from P5 and L&B2.
00:38:43So, yeah, there's so many areas now that are safer, bigger runoffs, areas in the past that were very unforgiving.
00:38:51And if you got slightly offline and lost it, you're going to have a big shunt in the wall and your car would be written off.
00:38:58But nowadays, you can run wide, go in these gravel traps, the car doesn't hit the wall, you can get it dragged down, you can get back in the race.
00:39:09I mean, when I watched Le Mans as a little kid, most of the cars had yellow headlights because French road cars had yellow headlights.
00:39:19Yeah, true.
00:39:19And I don't know whether that's where some of the, if we deep dig, really deep far back, it keeps a bit of a real French flavour into it.
00:39:29And also, it's a great identification of two categories of car.
00:39:34But that is the main reason, so you can decipher who is coming up behind you between the two categories of car,
00:39:43or the difference between P cars and GTE cars.
00:39:48Chris, Chris Stacey, ah, yeah, bet the one minute penalty is for the 55 car speeding in the slow zone.
00:39:58Knew it looked suspect, he did tweet in saying that he'd seen one of the cars going really, really quickly.
00:40:04Right, here's one, JC Man, is it really difficult to get a hotel in the area during the race?
00:40:11Yes.
00:40:14Prices go up.
00:40:15I tell you what, I don't know, one day someone will calculate what this race is worth to this area, and it's massive.
00:40:25We were talking to a team yesterday, £279 a night, was it they were paying in their hotel?
00:40:31Or euros.
00:40:32Euros, sorry, euros, £279 a night.
00:40:34And it's a minimum booking of seven nights.
00:40:36You can't just book for three, it's seven nights.
00:40:39And that's a team with 100 and...
00:40:42Well, it was high, it was 190 odd.
00:40:45190 people.
00:40:45It was Aston, it was Aston's...
00:40:47I wasn't going to say the name, but you did.
00:40:50So, but yeah, it's, you know what I mean, it's a huge hotel build.
00:40:54I've got a caravan in the TV compound.
00:40:58It's very nice, I like my caravan.
00:41:00But drivers, as Peter's touched on earlier, there is static caravans in the paddock that drivers can rent and things like that.
00:41:07Some drivers have their big old motor homes.
00:41:09This is the leading car in the pits, the Dumas car.
00:41:12So, Kobayashi will go back into the lead.
00:41:15It's a full service, it's a driver change.
00:41:19Mark Lee, we did see him standing around.
00:41:21Now, he's linked back in, and that is Dumas' seat.
00:41:25Obviously, Roman Dumas, a lot of...
00:41:26I thought he'd knocked the Marshall over, the mechanic over, but he hasn't.
00:41:30Ah, serving the one-minute stop and go whilst in the pits.
00:41:35So, I kind of thought, like you, that's kind of...
00:41:39They're gaining a bit of time because they don't have to slow down in the pit lane and accelerate in the pit lane, do they?
00:41:44A second time.
00:41:45Again, I don't.
00:41:47You know, maybe if we went next door to speak to John Haintoff, he would know.
00:41:53Okay, Anthony has some work as that number two car gets a full service.
00:41:57Let's go down to our pit lane reporter.
00:41:59You spoke about nationalities, and I want to give an update from a US team with Johannes van Overbeek in the extreme speed motorsport team.
00:42:10So, Johannes, how is the race going so far in the P2 category for you?
00:42:14It's going well.
00:42:15The Paul Mitchell car is running well.
00:42:19Sadly, we're not in our normal Patron livery, but pretty smooth sailing at the moment.
00:42:25Luckily, the weather cleared up, and we had some setbacks for both cars early on, but we're trying to make our way forward.
00:42:32How is the car working? I mean, the Ligia. Is it a good car to handle?
00:42:37It's a great car to drive, comfortable to drive. We're just really lacking some straight line speed to the Orcas, but anyhow, it's nice to drive, and more than halfway done.
00:42:49So, just hopeful we can have a second half of the race that's safe and successful.
00:42:56Yeah, even if the start of the race was not that successful, as you said, are you proud to race here in Le Mans for a lot of years now?
00:43:04Ah, it's great to be here. It's great to be back. It's special this year. My family's here, and now I've got to go.
00:43:13So, thank you.
00:43:14OK, thank you, Johannes. Thank you.
00:43:17OK, you understood. So, he had to prepare himself to drive. So, Johannes van der Beek is really happy to be here.
00:43:23So, yeah, we won't have the end of the interview.
00:43:27That's OK. I think driving is far more important.
00:43:30So, just to clarify at the top of the leaderboard, it's just come up there on your screen.
00:43:33Kobayashi and the number six Toyota has gone back ahead of the number two Porsche, but the number two Porsche now has a new driver in it.
00:43:40That's Mark Leib. He is in. Anthony Davison is in third place overall.
00:43:45The gap at the front, it will just kind of, like, shake itself out, but it's around 46 seconds at the moment.
00:43:52And new tyres on this Porsche. New driver. Full tank of fuel. Kobayashi has a full tank of fuel, but the same tyres and the same driver.
00:44:01With Davidson back to 1 minute 24 off, Kobayashi.
00:44:06It's closing up, isn't it? It is closing up.
00:44:07I know Davidson's obviously got to stop again, but those first two, they are kind of, as that is kind of real time,
00:44:13because Kobayashi only stopped a lap or two before the Porsche.
00:44:18Going back to just observation of the P2 class and what Van Overbeek said there about the Ligier,
00:44:25maybe a bit down on straight line speed.
00:44:28Well, funnily enough, there's five Ligier at the foot of the LNP2.
00:44:34And so we've got Alpina, Orica, Orica, Gibson, Alpina, yeah.
00:44:39So, and car 27 reported for speeding. That's Mediani.
00:44:46He was in trouble a short time ago as well, wasn't he?
00:44:49So, yeah, the Ligier doesn't seem to be the best car to have around here,
00:44:54but, you know, they're making the best of it, doing a good job and just getting on with it
00:44:58and trying to get to the end of the race.
00:45:02That's it. We were answering a question as well.
00:45:05I can't remember who it was who asked the question.
00:45:07Oh, yeah, JC Mann. About hotels, yeah, there's static homes in the back of the paddock
00:45:14which drivers rent and things like that.
00:45:16The big teams have driver's rooms.
00:45:20Your top P1 cars have driver's rooms within the hospitality
00:45:22which the drivers can sleep in.
00:45:25But Porsche and Audi will have hotels.
00:45:29I know the Porsche drivers do stay actually in Le Mans.
00:45:32The team are a bit further out of town, but the drivers are in Le Mans.
00:45:35And a lot of the team members are here for, you know, two and a half weeks
00:45:39to two and a half to three weeks
00:45:41when you include the testing and the preparation before it
00:45:44and then the pack-up tomorrow.
00:45:47It is tomorrow, isn't it?
00:45:49Yeah.
00:45:50Monday, Monday.
00:45:52Yeah.
00:45:53So, yeah, the teams are here a long time
00:45:55and obviously every day they spend here
00:45:57it costs more money and there's hotels and there's this and that.
00:46:01So, you know, for this area, this race is absolutely massive.
00:46:06And, yeah, going back to what you said about,
00:46:08I know from previous years, these static homes,
00:46:12so there's like two and three bedroom little static homes
00:46:15in this driver compound
00:46:16and they're like, for the week,
00:46:21there's something like £3,000 to £4,000 to rent.
00:46:25That's it.
00:46:26It is quite, it is, it's a money-making machine, isn't it?
00:46:28It costs a lot of money to put this event on,
00:46:31but they do get it back.
00:46:33I mean, Giles, who's our commentator in the other team,
00:46:37he's come down here with some friends
00:46:38and they've brought a big motorhome down there
00:46:40and there's four of them sharing the motorhome.
00:46:42So, real family atmosphere.
00:46:43We went round there last night, didn't we?
00:46:44and we chewed the fat, talked about stuff,
00:46:48and just people just generally hang out and just socialise.
00:46:51It's a real, if you've not been to them,
00:46:52all these people in America,
00:46:55all these people in Japan and South Africa,
00:46:57if you've not been here, you've got to sample it.
00:47:00You really have, because it is,
00:47:02there is a motor race goes on,
00:47:04but there's a huge, there's a fun fair,
00:47:06there's a fans village.
00:47:08It's just, and get a motorhome, get a tent.
00:47:10There's great camping.
00:47:11I mean, yeah.
00:47:12Bring your welly boots.
00:47:13Get your welly tents.
00:47:14And your rain jacket as well.
00:47:16Yeah, I just want to say,
00:47:17Neil Yanni must have been in,
00:47:18somehow, for some reason,
00:47:20Neil Yanni, yesterday morning,
00:47:21must have been in the campsite
00:47:23because he tweeted a picture of all the tents
00:47:26and all the mud and everything.
00:47:27He's going, not good for the fans,
00:47:29but they're diehard fans.
00:47:30Whether his friend had been in there or something,
00:47:33I'm not really sure,
00:47:33but he did tweet about the campsites
00:47:36and kind of giving respect to the fans.
00:47:40But, yeah, it's worth the trip.
00:47:42And it's a week's event.
00:47:44It's a week's event.
00:47:45You don't just come here for the 24 hours.
00:47:47Scrutineering is the weekend before in the town.
00:47:49Then you've got the race,
00:47:51the Thursday, Wednesday and Thursday,
00:47:53is qualifying and free practice.
00:47:55Friday is the pit lane is open.
00:47:58A bit of the track's open to walk.
00:48:00Friday afternoon is the driver's parade in Le Mans.
00:48:03Saturday morning, you've got a couple of races
00:48:05and the warm-up and then the main thing.
00:48:07You can spend easily over a week here
00:48:10and not be disappointed
00:48:12and probably not get everything done
00:48:13that you want to get done.
00:48:15Yeah, yeah, I mean, we were out,
00:48:18and as you said,
00:48:18we were wandering around the paddock
00:48:20in between our last stint here and this one.
00:48:25And I haven't seen, all week,
00:48:28I haven't seen so many people
00:48:29as we're wandering around there.
00:48:31There's, what, 300,000 people here?
00:48:33Something like that?
00:48:33Yeah, it's a fantastic atmosphere
00:48:36and you've got to get yourselves here, guys.
00:48:38You still, obviously,
00:48:40there's a lot of places here have Wi-Fi,
00:48:42so you can still listen to us on the app.
00:48:43So, you know, the paddock's got Wi-Fi
00:48:47and everything like that,
00:48:48so it's a great socialising,
00:48:52and even if you come over with a few friends,
00:48:54you will leave Le Mans with a lot more friends.
00:48:56It's a great event.
00:49:01It's a motor race,
00:49:01but it's also a great event.
00:49:04So, yeah.
00:49:04So, I'm going back to the racing going on,
00:49:07so I'm just keeping an eye
00:49:08on this lead battle for the Amp.
00:49:11We saw Townsend Bell passing Alcobese,
00:49:15but they've both had another stop since then.
00:49:18They're on their outlaps.
00:49:19And I thought,
00:49:19I wonder whether they'll change Alcobese
00:49:21back to one of the quicker drivers
00:49:24because he's losing, well, that last lap.
00:49:27I guess it was an in-lap or an out-lap.
00:49:29He lost 10 seconds,
00:49:31and he's now 31,
00:49:34almost 32 seconds down
00:49:36since that overtaking manoeuvre.
00:49:38So, Townsend Bell now has a pretty healthy lead,
00:49:42and, of course, in the 88 car,
00:49:45we have...
00:49:46So, it looks like we've got the 67.
00:49:48Yeah, we have David Heinemeyer Hansen,
00:49:51and we have Patrick Long,
00:49:52two very quick drivers.
00:49:54Obviously, Alcobese has to have his time in the car,
00:49:58but quite often they would cut the driver back slightly
00:50:03on a stint to get one of the faster guys back in
00:50:06to bring the car back up
00:50:08because, at the end of the day,
00:50:09everyone wants to be standing on the top step of the podium.
00:50:13So, it'll be interesting to see what happens next
00:50:16and how hard the number 88 car starts pushing.
00:50:21And, of course, we've got the 61 just behind as well,
00:50:24the Rob Bell car.
00:50:26Now, Sawasan is in the car.
00:50:30The Ferrari there, so...
00:50:31The number two Porsche here
00:50:33just getting a bit borked in the Porsche curves.
00:50:36Flashed slides did Mark Lieb,
00:50:39and he didn't...
00:50:41And, rightly so, in the position he's in, in the dark.
00:50:43He was just a bit careful
00:50:45and it ended up costing him some time.
00:50:46Not a huge amount,
00:50:47but he got away without being clipped or hit
00:50:49or anything like that.
00:50:51So, we've got a Ford with a car coming up behind as well.
00:50:54Yeah, I think the 67 team are waiting for this...
00:50:58There we go.
00:50:58...waiting for Marino to come in.
00:51:00This is a six car.
00:51:01The leader just come by.
00:51:04Kobayashi.
00:51:05And if you want to know what the difference is
00:51:06in speed and power, there it was.
00:51:09Yeah.
00:51:10Kobayashi's leveled the gap off again.
00:51:13He's taking two seconds out of Lieb on that last lap,
00:51:16so back to 43.
00:51:20Okay, our pit lane report, Anthony's busy.
00:51:23He's getting a load of stuff.
00:51:24If you just bear with us,
00:51:25about four or five seconds,
00:51:26because Kobayashi is about to start the 200th lap.
00:51:29We're going to go up to the pits now, though.
00:51:34Okay, Anthony, we're with you now.
00:51:35Yeah, we are in the pit,
00:51:37so I'm in the pit,
00:51:38with Matthias Lauda after his stint.
00:51:40So, Matthias,
00:51:41is it possible to have an update on your car,
00:51:43the 98 at the moment?
00:51:47I mean, the last couple of hours was quite tough for us.
00:51:50We had a couple of problems.
00:51:51We lost a couple of laps.
00:51:53Yeah, unfortunately.
00:51:53But anyway, we don't give up.
00:51:55We have to push till the end.
00:51:57There's still many hours left,
00:51:58and let's see where we end up.
00:51:59The battle in GTM is strong as well.
00:52:02So, I mean, in every category this year,
00:52:04again, in Le Mans,
00:52:05it's really, really tough.
00:52:07Yeah, it's always tough.
00:52:08It's always tough.
00:52:09It's a battle at the end,
00:52:10and let's see where we are a bit later,
00:52:13and we have to keep pushing.
00:52:15Is it possible to have an update as well
00:52:16on the track conditions?
00:52:18How is it to drive during the night and now?
00:52:22Track conditions are good.
00:52:24Track is clean.
00:52:25Track is fast.
00:52:26No problems.
00:52:27OK, thank you very much.
00:52:29Thank you for that, Anthony.
00:52:30Yeah, that...
00:52:31He's referring to the couple of moments
00:52:34that Paul Dallalana had in that car.
00:52:36Pedro Lamy now in to the 98 car.
00:52:39One minute stop and go for the 98 car.
00:52:42Speeding in a slow zone as well.
00:52:44Speeding in a slow zone.
00:52:45So, I think that, you know,
00:52:47we haven't had a slow zone for a while,
00:52:49as Mourinho Franchitti gets into the 67 now.
00:52:53We haven't had...
00:52:54So, all of these decisions,
00:52:55remember, I was referring a while ago...
00:52:58It was a long list, wasn't it?
00:52:59Yeah, that Eduardo Freitas has a lot of stuff to do,
00:53:03a lot of things coming up,
00:53:04and all of a sudden,
00:53:05bing, bing, bing, speeding, you know,
00:53:07everyone's getting done for the same thing
00:53:10because all these decisions are finally getting made
00:53:13quite a bit after the actual infringement happened.
00:53:17So, yeah, he's gradually getting on top of these things.
00:53:20Actually, we haven't heard from him for a while, have we?
00:53:23He was quite vocal early.
00:53:24Maybe he's having a wee nap or something.
00:53:26I think he must have gone to sleep.
00:53:27Oh, he's got a fetter for listening to us.
00:53:30Just for people wondering,
00:53:32yes, you are, right?
00:53:33Matthias Lauda, son of Nicky Lauda.
00:53:35It's quite obvious, but just some people might not know.
00:53:38They might think, oh, it just could be a coincidence,
00:53:40but no, it's not.
00:53:41The 7 Audi is in.
00:53:43This is probably going to be routine.
00:53:44So, the 33 LMP2 car also getting a speeding slow zone.
00:53:53Yeah, Lotter, we saw leaving the pits.
00:53:56I love the gloves the mechanics have on.
00:53:58They don't have rags.
00:53:59They've just got these big gloves.
00:54:00Yeah.
00:54:00Just clean the window away, so.
00:54:06The 98 car, this is it here.
00:54:08Petro Lammy on board.
00:54:09He's going to have to come in
00:54:10and serve a one-minute stop and go.
00:54:13Race director, he's heard you.
00:54:15Information to the pit lane.
00:54:16Information to the pit lane.
00:54:19Decision number 38 from the stewards.
00:54:22Car 98.
00:54:24Stop and go one minute for over-speeding slow zone.
00:54:28Stop and go one minute for car 98.
00:54:31Over-speeding slow zone.
00:54:35Okay, so that's answered that question.
00:54:37I must admit, I thought for a second there
00:54:39he was going to say,
00:54:40information for Peter, I am awake.
00:54:42Yeah, I was thinking that, yeah.
00:54:44Yeah.
00:54:45I was like, oh my God, he has been listening.
00:54:47For all we, you know,
00:54:48because we, we are,
00:54:53I believe this is true.
00:54:57After we'd done a couple of sessions earlier on in the week,
00:55:01I was chatting to some of the TV guys
00:55:02and I said, oh, is everything okay?
00:55:04Yeah, yeah, everything's okay.
00:55:05And the guys over in the race HQ,
00:55:07they're happy with how everything's going.
00:55:09And I'm thinking, are they listening to us as well?
00:55:11Does that mean so?
00:55:12Yeah, maybe, maybe he's just all right.
00:55:14I'll tell you, I'll tell that Peter Dumbrake
00:55:16thinks I've gone for a nap.
00:55:19So, so car seven and eight,
00:55:21the two Audis still running.
00:55:23Fourth place for Jarvis right now
00:55:25and Lotter down in sixth,
00:55:27quite a few laps down for him.
00:55:30Yeah, no, no driver change,
00:55:31no tire change,
00:55:33just, just the fuel up
00:55:34and clean the windscreen and back out again.
00:55:38So that rebellion,
00:55:39the 13 rebellion sitting in fifth place overall.
00:55:43Now, as we know,
00:55:44we've got 11 hours, seven minutes to go.
00:55:46So it's not beyond the realms of possibility
00:55:50when we see all the dramas that has gone on.
00:55:53Yeah, so we're seeing the 33 car straight
00:55:55there, um, the penalty.
00:55:58And the 20, ah, no.
00:56:01I think that was just a pit stop.
00:56:02No, no, no, the 26 did have to take, no.
00:56:04That was the 38.
00:56:06That was, uh, van der Garde.
00:56:09Okay.
00:56:10But didn't, uh, that was ages ago now.
00:56:13Will Stevens had one, didn't he?
00:56:15He did, yeah.
00:56:16It was a while ago.
00:56:16We haven't seen him for a while, so.
00:56:18Anyway, definitely that car 33
00:56:20is taking its stop now.
00:56:22That's it.
00:56:23The, the driver in the 13 car,
00:56:26which is the rebellion, uh, Matteo Tuska,
00:56:28he is the youngest driver in the race,
00:56:3019 years old.
00:56:31Uh, how old were you when you made your debut here?
00:56:35Oh, right.
00:56:3924.
00:56:3924, okay.
00:56:41Oh, Christina Nilsson's out in the Ferrari.
00:56:44Part of the, the Danish team, three Danes.
00:56:47Christina doing a lot of driving in America.
00:56:49And, uh, enjoying her Lamont experience.
00:56:53Oh, I've got something for you.
00:56:54He's not in the car at the minute.
00:56:56How, right.
00:56:57How do you pronounce Nicky team?
00:57:00Is it Nicky team?
00:57:01Yeah.
00:57:02Yeah.
00:57:02That's okay.
00:57:03Right.
00:57:04There's no I in team, but there is in that one.
00:57:08Nicky team.
00:57:09They say there's no I in team when you're,
00:57:12there is in that one.
00:57:12I've been waiting for that one all week.
00:57:14What time is it?
00:57:16It's nearly four o'clock.
00:57:18Moving swiftly on.
00:57:19Yeah, we're moving swiftly on.
00:57:21Yeah, let's have a look at the pro class.
00:57:23Let's, uh,
00:57:25we can talk about that.
00:57:26Valicelli's still doing well.
00:57:28Your pace is okay.
00:57:30Your pace is okay.
00:57:32We have still four laps.
00:57:33Four laps to the end of your team.
00:57:38Cool.
00:57:39Four laps to go for him.
00:57:40That's the leader.
00:57:41That's Gustavo Mendes,
00:57:42the leader of the P2 category.
00:57:44And we know he's been in a long team.
00:57:46He must be real keen on getting out now.
00:57:49This, uh,
00:57:49four laps to go to the end of the team.
00:57:51He went in and out at four o'clock
00:57:53this afternoon or something, didn't he?
00:57:55I think he's welded into that seat.
00:57:57Ah, well done to him.
00:57:58He's, he's first time here, isn't he?
00:58:00And, uh,
00:58:00he survived a big long stint like that.
00:58:02Well, he hasn't,
00:58:03again, knock on wood.
00:58:05Don't want to give him the old, uh,
00:58:07commentator's curse,
00:58:08but so far so good for him.
00:58:10He's, he's pushing on.
00:58:11Look at him.
00:58:12Good speed through there.
00:58:15Look at that speed.
00:58:17Barely braking.
00:58:19Blue, blue lights ahead
00:58:21just to tell that GT car ahead
00:58:23that he's coming.
00:58:30Right, so we've got penalties
00:58:31being served by 98 right now.
00:58:34Pedro Lamy is sitting in the pits
00:58:35and number 50.
00:58:37And, uh, Aaron Scott's in the pits as well,
00:58:47but I think his penalty was a while ago now,
00:58:49unless he's,
00:58:50no, I think he's probably taken that already.
00:58:52So the Ford's still pushing on,
00:58:56trying to catch up Malicelli,
00:58:58but he's,
00:58:58he's got a nice 45 second gap
00:59:01over Briscoe
00:59:02and Hand in the Ford.
00:59:05Sorenton and the Aston 95
00:59:06is still in fourth place.
00:59:08Kind of status quo there.
00:59:09Not much happening.
00:59:11Mooka probably the one
00:59:13just edging closer to Taylor
00:59:16in the Chevy.
00:59:21So it has gone,
00:59:22it's, it's gone a little bit quiet
00:59:24in that battle, hasn't it?
00:59:25It's a Ferrari holding them at bay.
00:59:28So we've got the 51 car,
00:59:33Bruni,
00:59:34remember they had a lot of trouble,
00:59:36they were sitting in the pits a long time.
00:59:37So they've got themselves,
00:59:39yeah,
00:59:40back up to 10th place in class,
00:59:41but, uh,
00:59:42a long way behind.
00:59:45New tyres going on.
00:59:53Hugely successful driver.
00:59:55He's disappointed
00:59:56and probably a little bit frustrated.
00:59:58Townsend Bell at the front.
00:59:59Yeah,
01:00:00one at least,
01:00:01yeah,
01:00:01he's won here a few times.
01:00:02He's won a world championship
01:00:04a couple of times.
01:00:07As you pointed out there
01:00:08a little while ago
01:00:10when there was that lead change
01:00:11in the AM category,
01:00:12Ferrari's first in both categories.
01:00:15Uh,
01:00:15the gap between
