00:00:00That man is Jack Gerber, who finished the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours, 68 years and 111 days old.
00:00:08He was actually the oldest person ever to enter the race as well, just the day before.
00:00:12And the youngest man ever to finish, no guesses for that one.
00:00:15That's the 16-year-old Charger, Matt McMurray, two years ago.
00:00:1916 years and 203 days old he was.
00:00:23And I still think it's madness even now, personally.
00:00:26In the same way that I originally thought Verstappen was madness in Formula 1.
00:00:29But, OK, he proved me wrong.
00:00:31Yeah, you've got to remember these guys have been doing it since they were probably six.
00:00:37OK, so we've got Ryan DL going to tell us what went wrong there in the ESM pit.
00:00:41Ryan DL, not what we want to see you standing next to me in the pit garage.
00:00:46No, it's, oh, it sucks when you get this far.
00:00:50I don't know, we're trying to get back out.
00:00:51We had a really rare suspension failure earlier with Chris.
00:00:56And then we've had a second one now, which is a different part, but very uncharacteristic for the leads yet.
00:01:04They're usually pretty strong, so we're not sure if we just got a bad batch.
00:01:07Everything was brand new, obviously, for the race.
00:01:09It sucks, we got a clodder back up to the kind of top seven and eight there.
00:01:16And points for the wake was looking pretty good.
00:01:18But, like I said earlier, this is a cruel race.
00:01:22And four hours from the end, we're trying to fix it.
00:01:25But the wishbone did a lot of damage when it ripped out of the gearbox.
00:01:29So I'm glad it didn't happen to Porsche Curves.
00:01:31But I'm also sad that it happened.
00:01:35And, yeah, it sucks.
00:01:37We've had a great season so far.
00:01:38So we'll regroup.
00:01:40We'll try and get some more points here.
00:01:42And then we go on to the next one.
00:01:45With four hours to go, we've got Lieb and Kobayashi both in the pit lane at the same time.
00:01:52They are leaving Marc Lieb in the number two Porsche.
00:01:55Wow.
00:01:56For the fourth stint.
00:01:57So this is a quad.
00:01:58Yeah.
00:01:59That's?
00:02:00Same tyres as well.
00:02:01So they obviously feel that this is okay.
00:02:03It's working.
00:02:05Get on with it.
00:02:05Is that a brave decision or is that a conservative decision?
00:02:08It just depends how they think they're going to be with fuel stops at the end.
00:02:11They might do a short one now if they really, really, really believe they can get to the end without a safety car.
00:02:17You know, you can't really plan this far out.
00:02:19But if you're going to roll the dice against two Toyotas, do you do it now?
00:02:24Well, Lieb gets out in second position.
00:02:26Kobayashi gets out in third.
00:02:28No change at the front.
00:02:30Three cars on the lead lap fighting for the victory.
00:02:32The Le Mans 24 hours.
00:02:33And there's still every chance it could be any one of the three of them.
00:02:37It could be the number five Toyota that leads currently.
00:02:40The number two Porsche may have one final sting in the tail for Toyota to take it away from them so cruelly.
00:02:45Or the number six Toyota.
00:02:47Still plenty of space and plenty of pace in that car.
00:02:51So it's not all done and dusted for these guys, though.
00:02:54The English stat, Mark, it is now officially game over.
00:02:57They can't jump through the four rings this time.
00:02:59No, not unless by some miracle two Toyotas and a Porsche were to break.
00:03:03That's the only way.
00:03:04At which point we'd see an LMP2 podium, overall podium finisher.
00:03:08That's a good point.
00:03:10But let's see.
00:03:11They're driving as fast as they can.
00:03:13They're doing everything they can.
00:03:14They're saving fuel where they can.
00:03:16They're just going out there and enjoying themselves now, I think.
00:03:20You know, they've been told race.
00:03:22That's clear from the radio messages we're hearing.
00:03:24The fact that, you know, is it Mark Lee was having to justify why to himself almost.
00:03:31But telling the team, you know, sorry that I've let Davidson through.
00:03:33This is how it happened.
00:03:34And at this stage in the game, if this was this stage in a WEC race, you wouldn't really care.
00:03:39So it's interesting to see what they're saying.
00:03:44So Darren Turner coming out of the number 95.
00:03:47And I think that's Fernando Rees.
00:03:54Yeah, Louise and I are both getting confused on this one.
00:03:57Who's with who now?
00:03:58They're moving around.
00:03:59Yeah, no, because Darren Turner's in what we call the Dane train.
00:04:01So, no, that will be Fernando Rees getting ready to replace Ritchie Stanaway in the number 97.
00:04:07Into the box comes the 61 Clearwater Ferrari, currently running fourth in GTE Am.
00:04:15Having moved its way up, it's the 61.
00:04:19Who's in the car at the moment?
00:04:20Kaito Sawa, the Japanese star, is in that car at the moment.
00:04:24There's the Porsche 919 Hybrid, climbed up to 23rd position.
00:04:27Having just gone past Billy Johnson in the Ford.
00:04:29The Rebellion is there in 37th position, you can see.
00:04:34So there are definitely some teams that are struggling.
00:04:37The 50th position, the Rebellion R1, still not officially a retirement.
00:04:42But these 10 are, and there are some big names in amongst it.
00:04:44One of the Chevys, two of the Ferraris, two of the Porsches.
00:04:47The number four, bye-bye Collar's car.
00:04:50And that's the Corvette of Mark Patterson still being recovered.
00:04:53Surely they'll be able to get that one started again.
00:04:55Yeah, absolutely.
00:04:56In fact, I think they've just put him down on the tarmac at the edge because the engine was probably still running.
00:05:00Pit stop for the leader.
00:05:01Anthony Davidson is in in the Toyota.
00:05:02There won't be a driver change here because he's not been in the car that long.
00:05:05So this will be his second stint, third stint?
00:05:10This will be him starting his third...
00:05:12Yeah, third stint.
00:05:13Second stint.
00:05:14No, it is second stint, yeah, because he's only just been in the car, so good point.
00:05:16This is him starting his second.
00:05:18So he will know that Mark Leib has only got one 13-lap, 14-lap stint left in him as the number one Porsche.
00:05:28That's not the Porsche we want to see.
00:05:30We want to see the other one.
00:05:34Davidson out to the pits again.
00:05:37And where is the number two?
00:05:39A long way back.
00:05:41A long way back.
00:05:42So it looks to me as though the number five is going to get out with a clear advantage.
00:05:48Anthony Davidson leading the way.
00:05:51Mark Leib in second position in the Porsche.
00:05:52There's the number one Porsche.
00:05:54Still on for sixth position in the LNB1 category.
00:05:58And with double points, that's about the same as a podium would be normally.
00:06:03Riding on board with the number one Porsche.
00:06:04That's the RGR Morand in front of us.
00:06:08Please get out of the way, says Timo Bernhardt.
00:06:12Sorry, no, it's Brendan Hartley in the car.
00:06:14Thank you very much, says the New Zealander.
00:06:16Off he goes.
00:06:18Kobayashi now up to second place.
00:06:20That's critical.
00:06:21Kobayashi's got through into P2.
00:06:23Where's Mark Leib?
00:06:26We'll look back and see, but I can't see the Porsche anywhere.
00:06:30Oh, no, there he is.
00:06:31He has come through.
00:06:31So, for a moment, the timing screens thought they were one and two.
00:06:36They're not yet.
00:06:37No, no.
00:06:38So, we're at ten seconds back.
00:06:40Kobayashi to Lieb.
00:06:41So, he has closed that gap by five seconds through that point.
00:06:45That's good.
00:06:46You know, he, Kobayashi, has just taken a huge chunk of time out.
00:06:49But in terms of pit, yeah, and that was done on the track.
00:06:51That wasn't done in the pits.
00:06:52It was not in the pits.
00:06:53Pit top times are absolutely equal.
00:06:55The ACA doing a fantastic job of equalizing the LMP1 pit stops.
00:06:58So, no, that is just pure on track.
00:07:02Kamui Kobayashi doing what is expected of him,
00:07:05and even more so at the moment,
00:07:06to try and get the Toyota into second position
00:07:08to make it a 1-2 for Toyota.
00:07:11And let's be honest, there's been a Japanese victory.
00:07:14There's never been a Japanese 1-2.
00:07:15Yeah, but what we've just seen there is a net gain of Davidson
00:07:18of about 15 seconds over the last stint.
00:07:21He's taken 15 seconds out of Lieb.
00:07:24So, Kobayashi has taken a little bit out.
00:07:28Kobayashi's taken about 10 seconds out,
00:07:29but Davidson's the one that's doing the hard work.
00:07:32So, Davidson set off in the hair,
00:07:34just as we saw with Bohemi in the car.
00:07:38It'll be interesting to see what Anthony starts to say
00:07:40about tyres halfway through this stint,
00:07:42because Sebastian Bohemi was saying,
00:07:44I think the tyres are going away,
00:07:46but by the time he was halfway through his second stint,
00:07:49if Anthony Davidson's managed that a little better,
00:07:52and that he keeps the tyres with him,
00:07:54I think ultimately he'll get a better triple stint out of this.
00:07:57Pause radio.
00:07:59No, Mark.
00:08:00We just need to stretch these stints out.
00:08:02That's why we left you in.
00:08:03This is the only chance we have of winning
00:08:05if it goes green all the way.
00:08:06I'm ready then.
00:08:0713 laps to go, mate.
00:08:0813 laps to go and you're done.
00:08:1013, four, supply.
00:08:11Watch out for Toyota.
00:08:12They confirm the only chance of winning.
00:08:15The only chance of winning is if it's green all the way.
00:08:18No, the only chance of winning is to stretch it
00:08:20if it's green all the way.
00:08:21So they've got to stretch the stints.
00:08:23That's what they're trying to do.
00:08:24Now they've realised that they need to start pumping in
00:08:27some 14 laps if they can do it.
00:08:29You're going to start seeing Lifton Coast.
00:08:30You're going to start seeing him just trying to eke it out,
00:08:34eke it out, eke it out.
00:08:35And they've done the calculations to try and work out
00:08:37where the Toyota's going to be.
00:08:42Yeah.
00:08:45Davidson leading.
00:08:46Leaves second.
00:08:47Kobayashi third.
00:08:49The Audi, Oliver Jarvis.
00:08:50Still in the pits, but still in fourth place.
00:08:53It's going to be a while before they are lapped by the sister car,
00:08:56Andre Lottara, six laps ahead of them still.
00:09:00I find it odd to hear the Porsche engineers saying already
00:09:03that that's their only chance.
00:09:05Ultimately, you only need one mistake in traffic and you're there.
00:09:09You know, you can make half a minute in traffic
00:09:12over the course of this race now.
00:09:16Easily make half a minute in traffic.
00:09:18There, you know, there goes three seconds.
00:09:21Yeah.
00:09:21Just lost.
00:09:22So why are they already saying that?
00:09:25It only takes Davidson to have a shocker of a stint
00:09:28through the traffic over the next 45, 50 minutes.
00:09:32And suddenly that's flowed back towards them.
00:09:35Is that a strategy?
00:09:37Do you think they might be trying to get Toyota?
00:09:39Telling Toyota that they've given up.
00:09:40To be Toyota, they have to be complacent now.
00:09:43That could be a strategy in and of itself.
00:09:45Let's see.
00:09:45You know, let's see what they say.
00:09:46What they say, I don't know.
00:09:50It is too close to call.
00:09:51You could say that, you know, Toyota are absolutely there.
00:09:55And if you looked at the facts, just raw facts in terms of fuel numbers
00:09:58and in terms of what they're doing on tires
00:10:01and the lap times that Davidson's capable of putting in
00:10:03in that number five car at the moment, that's fine.
00:10:07But maybe they should be starting to talk about, if that's the case,
00:10:11defending to Kobayashi,
00:10:13because they've only got a seven-second gap there, you know,
00:10:15unless they believe the Toyotas can go five seconds of that faster
00:10:19and turn it on.
00:10:20Maybe they know something we don't in those terms.
00:10:22They've been looking at the sector times
00:10:24and know that actually Toyota have got a load of time in their pocket.
00:10:28Drive-through penalty for the Michael Shek racing car.
00:10:30They're just telling Davidson there,
00:10:50he's on his fourth stint and they haven't changed tires.
00:10:53Fourth stint on the tires, yeah.
00:10:55So, you know, they're just trying to save a tire stop.
00:10:57So what that also says is they believe that it's going to be
00:11:00within half a minute of each other at the end
00:11:03if all things remain equal.
00:11:05That's the calculation they've done
00:11:07because that's the time it takes to change the tires.
00:11:10So they're trying to save an entire tire stop.
00:11:13That's incredible.
00:11:14That is absolutely incredible.
00:11:16How is it going to be that close
00:11:18when we consider these are the big three giants
00:11:21of the automotive world right now?
00:11:23Porsche, Toyota, Audi.
00:11:27And yet there's not much.
00:11:29When everything's going tickety-boo for all three teams,
00:11:32there is not much to choose between them at all.
00:11:35No.
00:11:35Just seeing number 68,
00:11:38Joey Hand-Driven Ford come past us in the GTE Pro class.
00:11:427.3 seconds now the gap to Tony Willander
00:11:44who's now taken over the number 82 car.
00:11:47So we've now got one of the two rapid peddlers in.
00:11:50They're saving Giancarlo Fisichella for the end of the race.
00:11:53The interesting thing about the Mark Leib situation
00:11:56is that they've actually chosen
00:11:58to give that little bit more time also
00:12:00to Neil Yarny before he gets in that car.
00:12:06It looks as though Louise Beckett
00:12:07has something for us down in pit lane.
00:12:10Well, we can see the number 26 G-Drive
00:12:12on a charge with Will Stephens.
00:12:14Roman, you're just about to get in.
00:12:15As always, LMP2 is still close battles.
00:12:19Yeah, it's normal, it's very close.
00:12:21We get some issues during the night.
00:12:24We get one-minute penalty, we get a drive-through,
00:12:27so we get a puncture of a loss something about more than three minutes.
00:12:31So it is exactly what is the difference between us and the P1.
00:12:36But, you know, it's still four hours to go
00:12:39and everything can happen.
00:12:40We try to push as hard as we can, and it's the ball.
00:12:44No further action taken on the 36 for their pit stop
00:12:47that was under investigation.
00:12:49So what have you got to pull out the bag to get back to Venice?
00:12:52Yeah, but I think what we saw from 36 is that they get two guns
00:12:57over the white line, so normally it should be also something, you know,
00:13:01and, yeah, we got so much drive-through today,
00:13:05especially due to the slow zones, which is, you know, which is,
00:13:10it's like that, but, yeah.
00:13:13It's crazy.
00:13:14Thanks.
00:13:15Yeah, Roman Rezanov there, the man that's the link-in to the Gazprom money.
00:13:23He's been doing this programme now in various different guises.
00:13:27Of course, radio.
00:13:2911 laps, mate, 11 laps.
00:13:32Eyes forward, eyes forward, right there, right there.
00:13:34He's pushing.
00:13:36And that's why Kobayashi is coming.
00:13:39So, no, I mean, Roman alluding to penalties and equality there almost,
00:13:44so, you know, there will have been a discussion between team managers
00:13:48and the ACO about what went on in that pit stop,
00:13:53and, you know, there will have had to be justification
00:13:56for them not to receive a penalty, and they haven't been given that,
00:14:00so that's fine.
00:14:01Let's get on with it, Roman, and let's win it on the track.
00:14:04He's had a one-minute stop-go penalty.
00:14:05That's been for something fairly bad.
00:14:09You don't get thrown a one-minute stop-go
00:14:11unless you've done something fairly, fairly fundamental.
00:14:14So, let's see where he goes, but at the moment,
00:14:17Menezes and the Alpine number 36 car,
00:14:20which is just pitting now, looks very, very strong.
00:14:23Davidson lead Kobayashi, Toyota, Porsche, Toyota,
00:14:26covered by 25 seconds.
00:14:28The gap is coming down all the time, though,
00:14:29between the second Toyota and the leading Porsche in second place.
00:14:33In the GTE Pro category, the gap is now to 7.4 seconds
00:14:37for Joey Hand in front of Tony Villanda in the Ferrari,
00:14:40and that battle is still raging.
00:14:42It's not done and dusted yet for Ryan Briscoe either.
00:14:44He's actually still, would you believe it,
00:14:46on the same lap as those two.
00:14:49So, if anything happens to those two guys up in front,
00:14:51there is another Ford in reserve just in case.
00:14:54Yeah, and Billy Johnson's catching Darren Turner
00:14:56at quite a pace as well.
00:14:59This race looks like it could come to the Fords at the bitter end.
00:15:01Exactly, Billy Johnson in the fifth place GTE Pro car,
00:15:04just done a 351.5, which is the fastest lap for that car so far.
00:15:09And then we're looking at DT's just done a 357.8, you know,
00:15:13so there's a huge, huge pace disadvantage there for the Aston.
00:15:18I think that Billy Johnson's got his eyes set
00:15:20on catching and passing Turner before the end.
00:15:24So, we could see, you know, Ferrari and three Fords up there.
00:15:29In what order, I don't know.
00:15:31The gap has settled itself at seven seconds
00:15:34between Willander and Hand.
00:15:36We missed their pit stop somewhere along the line
00:15:38where they didn't take tyres, neither car took tyres.
00:15:42So, that's interesting as well,
00:15:44that they're managing to double stint
00:15:45and they're not changing tyres when they've changed driver.
00:15:48Well, the number one Porsche is up into 21st place overall,
00:15:52and that makes it sixth place in the class, of course.
00:15:55But if this Audi continues to remain in the pits,
00:15:58they could get even more than that.
00:16:00Yeah.
00:16:02Jarvis still on board, presumably.
00:16:05Still in the pits.
00:16:06Been there for a long, long, long time.
00:16:08So, you get the idea that it's more than just a fundamental issue
00:16:14with the Audi.
00:16:16They would have been back on track pretty quick
00:16:18if it was a straightforward five-minute job.
00:16:20They've been in the pits for, what, 10 laps?
00:16:24Exactly 10 laps, in fact.
00:16:26So, that is the equivalent of 14, just under 40 minutes.
00:16:30I'd say 35 minutes they've been in the pits now, that Audi.
00:16:33Which is about what we had for the number seven in total.
00:16:37Audi have just been beaten.
00:16:39That doesn't happen very often.
00:16:41No, absolutely.
00:16:42There's been a reliability that's let them down,
00:16:43which is the thing that they're not used to.
00:16:45So, they'll go back and regroup,
00:16:47work out what the situation is,
00:16:49and get back to it, I'm sure.
00:16:51So, maybe they need a bigger clean sheet approach for 2017.
00:16:58Some people in the night were saying,
00:16:59is this disappointing performance from Audi
00:17:01going to add fuel to the rumours about them going to Formula 1?
00:17:04No, no, not in the slightest.
00:17:06No, I don't see Audi being in Formula 1
00:17:08any time this century.
00:17:11No, I don't think that's fair.
00:17:13I think that's fair.
00:17:14Why would you be there when you can put this
00:17:16through an R&D budget?
00:17:18You're learning all the time about the future of motor vehicles,
00:17:21while you're here, proving out everything
00:17:23that you can directly transfer across to a road car.
00:17:27Look at the stuff they've done.
00:17:29Everyone always refers to the headlight technology.
00:17:31It is the single easiest reference,
00:17:33but there's going to be thousands of components
00:17:35that have been developed on these cars
00:17:37that have made it onto the road cars.
00:17:39So, you can say the same for Formula 1 to a degree,
00:17:42but unfortunately, the technology is just too far removed
00:17:46from what's feasible on an everyday road car
00:17:48that you or I can go and buy and drive
00:17:49and get serviced by your typical garage.
00:17:52Yeah, fair play to Mercedes deciding to stick at it,
00:17:55and they are winning everything,
00:17:56which is kind of killing off the competition
00:17:57to a certain degree, you could argue.
00:17:59But, it's a different market.
00:18:01Mercedes are happy to be in that market.
00:18:03They want to be winning every form of motor racing
00:18:05and have luxury cars on the table.
00:18:07Audi, they've got a much more intuitive plan than that.
00:18:10Yeah, absolutely.
00:18:14Looking at the gaps again,
00:18:16you know, Willander just doesn't seem to want to pass Hand.
00:18:20They're quite happy.
00:18:21I would have expected Tony Willander to be faster
00:18:23than Joey Hand, lap for lap,
00:18:26and the gap is just sitting there now,
00:18:28six and a half seconds,
00:18:29so probably down by a second,
00:18:30but that's just traffic causing it to air and flow,
00:18:33and they've got an LMP2 car separating them
00:18:35and Ryan Briscoe.
00:18:36So, Chris Hoy now out in the Leisure LMP2 car.
00:18:39The Algarve Pro Racing car.
00:18:42He's not done badly for his debut in Le Mans 24 Hours either.
00:18:45Doing a fantastic job,
00:18:46and, you know, that car had troubles with,
00:18:48during the night, with others in it.
00:18:51But, no, fantastic job for Chris and the team.
00:18:54And I'm sure he's loving every single minute of this.
00:18:58Now, why are they telling us that Anthony Davidson
00:19:01has participated in the Le Mans 24 Hours four times?
00:19:04He's definitely done it way more than that.
00:19:06He did the Velox Pro Drive Ferrari in 2003.
00:19:08Aston Martin Lola, 2009.
00:19:11Two years at Peugeot,
00:19:12and this is his fifth campaign for Toyota.
00:19:15So, I make that nine.
00:19:18This is his ninth participation.
00:19:20Certainly not his fourth.
00:19:21No, it's definitely not his fourth.
00:19:22He's been here a lot longer than that.
00:19:24He knows a lot more of the tricks in the trade.
00:19:26That's all we've got left, folks,
00:19:28at the 24 Hours.
00:19:28It's flashed past so quickly.
00:19:30And the reason it's gone past so quickly
00:19:32is because we are genuinely on the edge of our seats
00:19:35and have been pretty much since the safety car came in
00:19:38after 45 minutes behind the rain.
00:19:40Yeah, absolutely.
00:19:42The race started in under a torrential downpour
00:19:45is the only way to put it
00:19:46as the cars went to the gate.
00:19:47Oh, that's the sixth Toyota.
00:19:50Could be actually losing it at the Porsche Curves.
00:19:54Now.
00:19:54He hasn't hit anything.
00:19:56Now, he hasn't.
00:19:56Traffic.
00:19:57Is he going to be straight in?
00:19:58Mechanics are readying themselves.
00:19:59You need to ready yourself.
00:20:00Just in case.
00:20:01What happened?
00:20:01Whoa.
00:20:02Just completely dropped it.
00:20:03Oh, my word.
00:20:05Middle of the Porsche Curves.
00:20:06Did he flat?
00:20:06Ooh.
00:20:07Can that camera go left?
00:20:09He went through the gravel trap.
00:20:10Clever boy.
00:20:11Clever boy.
00:20:12Oh, no.
00:20:12He stopped it and drove it out.
00:20:14And there's flames.
00:20:17Oh, dear.
00:20:19Well.
00:20:20See those front wheels spinning.
00:20:21The one, two.
00:20:22As it displays some power through the front end.
00:20:24The one, two might not be happening now.
00:20:27I'm not saying it's over for them,
00:20:29but that's a big headache.
00:20:31If that had been only two-wheel drive,
00:20:33that would have been entertaining.
00:20:34See whether he could have got that out.
00:20:36Toyota doing a good job there,
00:20:38getting that car back out of the gravel trap.
00:20:40And he's lost.
00:20:41What did he lose?
00:20:42He lost 20-odd seconds.
00:20:44Yep.
00:20:45About 25.
00:20:47Is that all right?
00:20:48Is that all right?
00:20:49We're just looking around.
00:20:51Is it okay?
00:20:51Do we need to do something?
00:20:53They'll be ready for him,
00:20:54just in case he's picked up a puncture
00:20:56or anything like that.
00:20:57But that's, yeah, a mistake.
00:21:01Is it okay?
00:21:02Is it okay?
00:21:03Yeah, it's okay.
00:21:03It's okay.
00:21:04It's okay.
00:21:05There you go.
00:21:06They've just checked everything.
00:21:07It's okay.
00:21:07That left-hand side pod's now
00:21:09looking a lot looser than it was.
00:21:11I think they might now need
00:21:12to take some action there.
00:21:14If you look at it, the floor.
00:21:15Oh, yes.
00:21:15Look at that.
00:21:16Okay, so the spin has broken the floor now.
00:21:18He could get a black and orange flag for that.
00:21:21Unlikely here,
00:21:23but they will need to do something about it
00:21:25on pace, I would suggest.
00:21:27I think as the car's gone in,
00:21:29he's just broken that,
00:21:30broken that floor.
00:21:32And now it's a case of
00:21:34how long do they leave it
00:21:35before they fix it,
00:21:37which would then give us a two-horse race.
00:21:39Andre Lotterer is about to come into the pits.
00:21:43And they're not too far away, actually.
00:21:45The number seven Audi
00:21:46from moving up into fourth position.
00:21:47Slick's being...
00:21:53Which compound of that
00:21:55is being used for the number seven?
00:21:58You can't tell.
00:21:59You can't tell.
00:21:59Ooh.
00:22:01Subtle differences.
00:22:03You have to be in the no-to-no.
00:22:06Good job.
00:22:07Good job.
00:22:07Toyota behind.
00:22:09Fell off the track.
00:22:10Toyota behind.
00:22:11Fell off the track.
00:22:12That's a little bit of cockiness
00:22:13coming from Portugan.
00:22:14Yeah, it is.
00:22:17It's almost disappointing to hear that.
00:22:19You know, the ha-ha kind of...
00:22:21That is a...
00:22:22Yeah, that is a hardy ha-ha moment,
00:22:24isn't it, Portugan?
00:22:24Yeah, because it can happen to you
00:22:25just as quickly.
00:22:27So, let's see.
00:22:28I mean, Kobayashi
00:22:29will be pushing like crazy now,
00:22:32but that left-hand floor,
00:22:33to me, that looks like
00:22:34that's going to need more of a repair
00:22:35than it's had.
00:22:36It was held together
00:22:37with a bit of tank tape.
00:22:38And as he rotated around,
00:22:40it was an issue,
00:22:41but it's interesting,
00:22:43you know, the Toyota there.
00:22:45Had that not had four-wheel drive,
00:22:46would that have got out
00:22:47of that gravel trap?
00:22:48I don't think it would.
00:22:49Not without help, anyway.
00:22:51So, interesting,
00:22:53the whole approach.
00:22:54They could have lost a lap there.
00:22:56By having four-wheel drive,
00:22:57they saved their back.
00:22:58And again,
00:22:59the Audi goes on.
00:23:00We're not expecting him in yet.
00:23:02So...
00:23:03No.
00:23:04As he comes through,
00:23:05so that's Porsche number two
00:23:06comes through past us.
00:23:08Big twitch, though.
00:23:09Yeah, the car always twitches
00:23:11the way they...
00:23:11as they lay the power down.
00:23:13The other Porsches in, though.
00:23:15Brendan Hartley
00:23:15coming into the pits now.
00:23:17It'll be quite nice
00:23:18to watch this pit stop, actually,
00:23:20because they've still got
00:23:21the donor car, as it were,
00:23:23in terms of strategy
00:23:24and in terms of set-up,
00:23:26in terms of compound choice
00:23:27at Porsche.
00:23:29Down in 21st position overall.
00:23:31Sixth in class.
00:23:32Looking for points.
00:23:33Nothing else.
00:23:34Because they're not really
00:23:35going to get anything else.
00:23:36Although they might get
00:23:37fifth out of this now
00:23:37if that Audi
00:23:38still can't get out.
00:23:41The eight is out.
00:23:43The number eight Audi,
00:23:45we've just been told
00:23:45by Louise Beckett,
00:23:46is out of the Le Mans
00:23:4824 hours.
00:23:50Oh, out on track.
00:23:51Sorry.
00:23:51My apologies.
00:23:53Getting panicked there.
00:23:55But, yeah.
00:23:56Oliver Jarvis
00:23:57has got the car
00:23:58back on the track again.
00:23:59They've been in there for
00:24:0039 minutes
00:24:02they spent in the pits.
00:24:04And Benoit Trillier
00:24:04is looking to get
00:24:05into the number seven.
00:24:06So there's going to be
00:24:06a bit of an inter-team squabble
00:24:08at this rate
00:24:08at Team Audi
00:24:09because
00:24:10I think
00:24:12they're now
00:24:12both on the same lap.
00:24:14Yeah.
00:24:14Now, my impression
00:24:18of the way
00:24:18that Toyota
00:24:19were using
00:24:19their hybrid system
00:24:20was that
00:24:20they would only
00:24:21deploy that front axle
00:24:23over a certain speed.
00:24:25Now,
00:24:25interesting that
00:24:26from stationary
00:24:26they use it.
00:24:29So,
00:24:30getting put into the car.
00:24:32We've talked about this
00:24:33a couple of times.
00:24:34I think the definition
00:24:36the word
00:24:38hero
00:24:38gets bandied about
00:24:40a lot
00:24:40in the world of
00:24:41sport in particular.
00:24:42Motor racing
00:24:43in general.
00:24:45Frederic Sosay
00:24:46is a hero.
00:24:47There is no
00:24:48questioning that.
00:24:50Yeah,
00:24:50he is.
00:24:51Totally.
00:24:52Completely agree.
00:24:55Down the straight then.
00:24:56The Toyota
00:24:56recovering.
00:24:57Komui Kobayashi
00:24:58just did a 326.9
00:25:00so if there were
00:25:01problems with the tyre
00:25:02I don't think
00:25:04they're there anymore.
00:25:05He's at exactly
00:25:06the same pace
00:25:07as Mark Leib
00:25:08in the Audi.
00:25:09So,
00:25:09he was very clever there
00:25:11actually,
00:25:11Komui Kobayashi.
00:25:12Once he felt the car
00:25:12snap away
00:25:13he could have
00:25:13black-spotted the tyres
00:25:15there in desperation.
00:25:16That's a split
00:25:17second decision.
00:25:18Yeah, absolutely.
00:25:20I can't afford
00:25:20new tyres
00:25:21on my race car
00:25:22so whenever it spins
00:25:22I always let it roll.
00:25:24The racing driver
00:25:25instinct there
00:25:26and that is literally
00:25:27you don't have
00:25:29a massive amount
00:25:30of time to make
00:25:30that decision
00:25:31either when you're
00:25:31in the car
00:25:32when you're going
00:25:32backwards at
00:25:33160, 170 miles an hour.
00:25:35You've literally
00:25:36got to make that decision.
00:25:37It's an awareness
00:25:37of what's around you.
00:25:39It's an awareness
00:25:39of the run-off area
00:25:40and that's what
00:25:41makes these guys
00:25:42so good.
00:25:43You know,
00:25:43he knew where
00:25:44the walls were.
00:25:45He knew that
00:25:46the car was
00:25:46spinning to the outside
00:25:48and there was
00:25:48enough run-off there
00:25:49so it is amazing.
00:25:52Komui Kobayashi
00:25:52of course is still
00:25:53the fastest man
00:25:54of the Le Mans 24 hours
00:25:55with that 3 minute
00:25:5621.445 lap
00:25:58he set on lap 81
00:26:00so a long time ago.
00:26:03Personal best though
00:26:04for Vitaly Petrov.
00:26:06The SMP
00:26:07LMP2 car
00:26:08up in 8th position
00:26:09overall
00:26:103rd in the category
00:26:11chasing down
00:26:12Will Stephens
00:26:13and he set a personal best
00:26:14although it's still
00:26:15not as quick
00:26:15as Will Stephens
00:26:16is going.
00:26:17No,
00:26:17Will Stephens
00:26:18is really trying
00:26:19very hard now.
00:26:20He wants to get
00:26:20wants to get there.
00:26:22He's desperate
00:26:22to close that gap
00:26:24and get back
00:26:24on the lead lap
00:26:25so that if we do
00:26:26have any issues
00:26:27they're in the fight
00:26:28with Ricky Almi
00:26:30in the Alpine.
00:26:31He'll be coming out
00:26:32at the next stop.
00:26:33I think Stephens
00:26:34will get one more stint
00:26:35out of this.
00:26:36Petrov's definitely
00:26:36staying in
00:26:37and Nick Leventis
00:26:38depends what the
00:26:39Straka guys do
00:26:40and where we are
00:26:40with driver times
00:26:41whether Nick Leventis
00:26:43will need to come out
00:26:43of that car or not.
00:26:45I suspect
00:26:46they'll try
00:26:46and
00:26:47so
00:26:49Louise just saying
00:26:50that I think
00:26:50that Danny's going
00:26:51to be getting
00:26:51in the car.
00:26:54Roman Resonov
00:26:55getting into
00:26:56the Will Stephens
00:26:57car.
00:26:57OK,
00:26:57so yeah,
00:26:58Will will be coming
00:26:59out at this
00:27:00next stop.
00:27:03Yellow flags.
00:27:05Where is it this time?
00:27:06Zone 24.
00:27:08That's the run
00:27:09out of
00:27:10isn't that down
00:27:11the Monsan
00:27:12straight?
00:27:12It's the manor.
00:27:13Not a hit
00:27:15anything though.
00:27:16No.
00:27:18Hopefully Matt
00:27:18Rau can get it
00:27:19going again.
00:27:19What is he doing?
00:27:21Where is he?
00:27:23Where is he actually?
00:27:24Right,
00:27:25OK,
00:27:25he's gone straight
00:27:25on at Indianapolis.
00:27:27Straight on at
00:27:27Indianapolis.
00:27:28Did he hit anything?
00:27:28No,
00:27:29I don't think he did.
00:27:29No,
00:27:29he managed to get it
00:27:30straight up the
00:27:30escape road.
00:27:31We've seen that
00:27:31a couple of times
00:27:32this weekend.
00:27:33We saw one of the
00:27:33forwards on Wednesday
00:27:34night go off there
00:27:35and he really did
00:27:36the same.
00:27:37How has he got it
00:27:37there?
00:27:38That's a bit of
00:27:39clever driving on his
00:27:40part.
00:27:40Probably the same
00:27:41thing that you were
00:27:42talking about a
00:27:42moment ago.
00:27:42Don't flat spot the
00:27:43tyres.
00:27:44Just gone straight
00:27:45on past there and
00:27:46thought,
00:27:47right,
00:27:47OK,
00:27:47I'm not going to
00:27:47get it stopped.
00:27:48I've got another
00:27:4950 yards of runoff
00:27:50area.
00:27:51If I just pull to
00:27:51the right and go
00:27:52through the gate.
00:27:53One of the
00:27:54forwards tried that
00:27:55on Wednesday night
00:27:55and unfortunately
00:27:56missed it.
00:27:57Just clipped the
00:27:57end of the tyre
00:27:58wall.
00:27:59So,
00:27:59no,
00:28:00I think that's a
00:28:00bit of smart
00:28:01driving.
00:28:01He's outbraked
00:28:02himself and
00:28:02thought,
00:28:03right,
00:28:03go to the
00:28:04right,
00:28:04carry on,
00:28:05turn it around,
00:28:05get it back.
00:28:06I definitely
00:28:07fancy a replay of
00:28:08that though.
00:28:08Yeah,
00:28:09that would have been
00:28:09an exciting
00:28:10moment.
00:28:11Yeah,
00:28:11that would have
00:28:11been,
00:28:12OK,
00:28:12my heart just
00:28:13accelerated faster
00:28:16than I'm used to.
00:28:17Those are the
00:28:17moments when,
00:28:18as a driver,
00:28:19if you're under
00:28:20control and if
00:28:21you're thinking
00:28:21about it,
00:28:22you've made a
00:28:23mistake,
00:28:23but equally you're
00:28:25very aware of
00:28:26where you are and
00:28:27what's around you
00:28:27and you can say,
00:28:28no,
00:28:28do you know what,
00:28:29I'm not going to
00:28:29panic now,
00:28:30I'm just going to
00:28:30take the escape
00:28:31road that I know
00:28:32is there,
00:28:32get the thing
00:28:33turned around and
00:28:33come back.
00:28:34So,
00:28:34those are the ones
00:28:35that aren't quite
00:28:36so heart-stopping
00:28:36as the ones when
00:28:37you know you've got
00:28:38a wall straight
00:28:38in front of me.
00:28:40He's done some,
00:28:40oh,
00:28:40he's done some
00:28:41big damage though.
00:28:42Yeah.
00:28:42That just buckled,
00:28:43that literally just
00:28:44buckled.
00:28:45Oh no.
00:28:47Once the nose buckled,
00:28:49you're not going to
00:28:49have any kind of
00:28:50control whatsoever.
00:28:51Guarding for the
00:28:51Manor guys now,
00:28:52I don't know how
00:28:54badly damaged the
00:28:55steering is.
00:28:56I mean,
00:28:56that was...
00:28:57They could have
00:28:57won this.
00:28:58They could have
00:28:58won this.
00:28:58It's just all
00:28:59falling apart.
00:28:59Yeah,
00:29:00you know,
00:29:00and you can put
00:29:01that down to
00:29:02experience of the
00:29:02Manor guys,
00:29:03you know,
00:29:03the drivers that
00:29:04are in there
00:29:05and the team
00:29:06to some regard.
00:29:07I don't think the
00:29:08team have made
00:29:08many mistakes,
00:29:09but...
00:29:09Well,
00:29:10that I would
00:29:10suggest is going
00:29:11to be a safety
00:29:12car because the
00:29:14damage to the
00:29:14car...
00:29:15I think that'll
00:29:15be a slow zone.
00:29:16He's managing to
00:29:17keep the car going.
00:29:17He's going to
00:29:18take the 320 board
00:29:19out.
00:29:20Nobody's going to
00:29:20mind.
00:29:21It's not so much
00:29:21the damage that...
00:29:23Well,
00:29:23it's not so much
00:29:23where he is,
00:29:24but the car
00:29:24buckled,
00:29:25the nose buckled
00:29:26in the middle
00:29:27of the apex
00:29:28at the Porsche
00:29:28curves.
00:29:29So maybe there's
00:29:30debris in a very
00:29:31dangerous part of
00:29:32that part of the
00:29:32course.
00:29:33I think they can
00:29:34clear it with a
00:29:34slow zone.
00:29:35Here we go.
00:29:36Pop!
00:29:38Yeah.
00:29:39That's a scary
00:29:40moment.
00:29:40The front wheels were
00:29:40in the air
00:29:41completely.
00:29:41Nothing you can
00:29:42do.
00:29:43In the wall,
00:29:43bang.
00:29:43Braking wouldn't
00:29:44have helped him.
00:29:45Nothing would
00:29:45have helped him
00:29:45there.
00:29:46So I don't know.
00:29:48I think the
00:29:49majority of the
00:29:50debris is on the
00:29:51outside from the
00:29:52wall hit.
00:29:53I suspect they can
00:29:54do that with a
00:29:55slow zone either
00:29:55way.
00:29:55Such a shame
00:29:58though.
00:29:59Rookies this year
00:29:59of the Le Mans
00:30:0124 hours,
00:30:02but they've won
00:30:03so much in the
00:30:04past.
00:30:04They've competed in
00:30:05everything from
00:30:05Auto GP to GP3 to
00:30:07the Formula 3
00:30:07European Series.
00:30:09I don't know why
00:30:09he can't just
00:30:10engage.
00:30:10He has.
00:30:11He has engaged
00:30:12reverse and tried
00:30:12to do it because
00:30:13he was nearly up to
00:30:14that 320-yard board.
00:30:16He's gone forwards
00:30:17and then thought,
00:30:18right, okay, now I
00:30:19can try and go
00:30:20backwards again and
00:30:21get the nose out,
00:30:21but the nose is
00:30:22well and truly wedged
00:30:23under there.
00:30:24He's going to
00:30:25struggle.
00:30:26He really is.
00:30:27They've managed to
00:30:28get the slow zone.
00:30:28Yeah, they're going
00:30:29to go slow zone 30
00:30:30and 31.
00:30:31Yellow's at 31
00:30:32and 32.
00:30:33So, yeah, we'll go
00:30:34slow zone through
00:30:34that area.
00:30:35They've had some
00:30:36incredible success.
00:30:37They were founded
00:30:3826 years ago,
00:30:401990, the Manatee.
00:30:42They've had British
00:30:43Formula 3 champions
00:30:44in Mark Hines.
00:30:45Remember what
00:30:45happened to him?
00:30:46Obscurity.
00:30:47That's such a shame
00:30:48as well.
00:30:49Antonio Pizzonia,
00:30:51Formula 1 and
00:30:52IndyCar driver.
00:30:53He was also the
00:30:54Formula Renault UK
00:30:55champion for Manor
00:30:56in 1999, as
00:30:57were Kimi
00:30:59Raikkonen, Lewis
00:31:00Hamilton, and
00:31:01ironically, Oliver
00:31:02Jarvis in the
00:31:04Audi.
00:31:05So, Manor has
00:31:07nurtured some
00:31:07incredible talent in
00:31:09the last few
00:31:09seasons.
00:31:12Raikkonen, Hamilton,
00:31:13and Jarvis, three
00:31:14big names, all of
00:31:16whom have found
00:31:17success since being
00:31:18at Manor in their
00:31:19junior days.
00:31:20But Manor, as an
00:31:21LNP2 team, they
00:31:22have learnt a lot
00:31:23from this first
00:31:24Le Mans, and let's
00:31:24be fair to them,
00:31:26they have had an
00:31:27incredible effort.
00:31:30They've done a
00:31:30brilliant job
00:31:31considering what
00:31:31they've got.
00:31:32Here it is again.
00:31:35This is them
00:31:35rejoining.
00:31:36I want to see what
00:31:37happened before this.
00:31:40But here it comes.
00:31:41Hop!
00:31:42No control, no drive,
00:31:44nothing.
00:31:44I understand why
00:31:44it broke, frankly.
00:31:46That's very odd to
00:31:47see that he must
00:31:49have made contact
00:31:50with someone.
00:31:50That's kind of why
00:31:51I want to see what
00:31:52happened to get him
00:31:52in that escape road
00:31:53in the first place
00:31:54because that would
00:31:54make a lot more
00:31:55sense to see what
00:31:57happened in the
00:31:57initial point of
00:31:58going on.
00:31:59They may have
00:31:59clicked the guard
00:31:59rail on the inside
00:32:00through Indy, but
00:32:01equally, generally,
00:32:03they're either broken
00:32:03or they're not.
00:32:04There's not a huge
00:32:05amount of load going
00:32:06through them at that
00:32:07pace on the way
00:32:08in.
00:32:10He wasn't going
00:32:11that quick, not a
00:32:12massive amount of
00:32:13doubt and force being
00:32:13generated at that point.
00:32:14No, he was being
00:32:14careful coming home,
00:32:16wasn't he?
00:32:16Yeah.
00:32:17Because he could
00:32:17sense there was
00:32:18damage.
00:32:19Is that mana out
00:32:20of the race, do you
00:32:21think?
00:32:21I suspect so.
00:32:23I suspect that
00:32:23that is.
00:32:24What was he?
00:32:25I mean, they can
00:32:26always get it back
00:32:27if the mana two
00:32:28will pick them up
00:32:29and then all the
00:32:31other bits drop off
00:32:32and bring it back
00:32:34round, but it'd be
00:32:35nice for those guys
00:32:36to get a finish.
00:32:38Somebody asked
00:32:38earlier on, I never
00:32:39got round to it,
00:32:40but it's relevant now
00:32:41because we've had that
00:32:41mana there.
00:32:42It was Dick
00:32:43Saplenty who gave
00:32:44us that one.
00:32:45Do the cars go back
00:32:46home damaged or
00:32:47repaired before being
00:32:48loaded back on the
00:32:49transport?
00:32:51Depends on how badly
00:32:52damaged they are.
00:32:53If it's got four
00:32:54wheels on it, you'll
00:32:55roll it on and send
00:32:56it home, typically.
00:32:58But then again, a lot
00:33:00of these cars now are
00:33:01insured and a lot of
00:33:04these drivers are paying
00:33:04a lot of money for
00:33:05insurance for the
00:33:06weekend.
00:33:06There'll be a lot of
00:33:06photos taken of any
00:33:07damage to allow them to
00:33:10make their claim,
00:33:10believe it or not,
00:33:11but that's how it
00:33:12works in motorsport
00:33:13these days.
00:33:15Davidson, Lieb,
00:33:17Kobayashi, Jarvis and
00:33:18Lotterer is the order
00:33:19at the moment.
00:33:20For the two Audis, I
00:33:21think, on the...
00:33:22No, I was going to say
00:33:24they're on the same
00:33:24lap.
00:33:25They're not quite on the
00:33:26same lap.
00:33:27There was a lapsed
00:33:27difference between them.
00:33:29Lotterer very nearly
00:33:30caught up with Jarvis,
00:33:31but there is one lap
00:33:32still to be made up.
00:33:33Villander's just making
00:33:36tiny inroads into
00:33:37Joey Hand now.
00:33:39Briscoe 207 behind
00:33:41them on the same lap
00:33:43and then we've still
00:33:44got this LMP2 Algarve
00:33:45Pro Racing car.
00:33:46Chris Hoy has come out
00:33:47of that.
00:33:47Michael Munneman, the
00:33:48team owner, is now back
00:33:50into that car on the
00:33:51same lap.
00:33:51But then Mark Webber
00:33:53in the number one LMP1
00:33:55Porsche is the next car
00:33:57up there.
00:33:58Stephens and Petrov in
00:33:59together in the LMP2
00:34:01battle.
00:34:02Stephens has come in and
00:34:03gone out.
00:34:04Petrov is doing the
00:34:05same.
00:34:06Still looks good for the
00:34:07Signatech Alpine though,
00:34:08doesn't it?
00:34:09Yeah.
00:34:09No shadow of a doubt.
00:34:10There's been such a
00:34:12solid run for those
00:34:12guys.
00:34:14That Orica chassis
00:34:14branded Alpine has
00:34:16been a strong package
00:34:19all year.
00:34:20And the guys down at
00:34:22Signature, they're
00:34:23another one like
00:34:23Manor that's come from
00:34:24single-seaters.
00:34:25But they know what
00:34:26they're doing and they
00:34:27know how to put a car
00:34:27together and they've
00:34:28done a fantastic job of
00:34:30learning their trade
00:34:31here.
00:34:32I think this is probably
00:34:32the fifth year here.
00:34:35They've just done a
00:34:37solid job.
00:34:39Through the Porsche
00:34:40curves very slowly of
00:34:41course as that Manor is
00:34:42being cleared away.
00:34:44The 82 class second
00:34:46place car, Tony
00:34:48Villander.
00:34:49There's the leader.
00:34:50There's the leader.
00:34:51Two cars up the road
00:34:52as Matt Rao tries to
00:34:53help them get the car
00:34:54sorted.
00:34:55See, I want to see what
00:34:58happened before that.
00:34:59I think what's happened
00:35:00there is Rao's just
00:35:01gone in and unclipped
00:35:02the headlights so that
00:35:03the wires don't get
00:35:05broken.
00:35:06We saw earlier one of
00:35:07the marshals just pulling
00:35:10the bodywork away when we
00:35:12saw the Alpine car go in
00:35:14at the first chicane and
00:35:16obviously then you've got a
00:35:17wiring repair to do as
00:35:19well.
00:35:19So I think that's him
00:35:19just disconnecting the
00:35:21connectors so that when he
00:35:23does get that car lifted
00:35:24all that bodywork falls away
00:35:26and he can get on and bring
00:35:28that car back.
00:35:29But he reckoned without it
00:35:31buckling underneath the
00:35:32splitter on the front and
00:35:34sending him into the barrier.
00:35:36It's a real shame as well.
00:35:37Here's the Australian IndyCar
00:35:40star, Ryan Briscoe, very
00:35:42talented racing driver at
00:35:44Ryan Briscoe, has won pretty
00:35:46much everything he's ever
00:35:47taken part in and that
00:35:50includes Formula One because
00:35:51he never actually took part
00:35:51in it.
00:35:52He was a test driver for
00:35:53Toyota back in the day.
00:35:55But there was a lot of
00:35:56rumour around him being a
00:35:58Formula One driver and
00:35:59personally I think he got
00:36:00the better end of the deal
00:36:00going to IndyCar.
00:36:02Than staying where he was.
00:36:04Yeah, absolutely.
00:36:05When you look at history.
00:36:06I agree with that.
00:36:06Look at history.
00:36:07Toyota, well, Formula One
00:36:082009, eight years in the
00:36:11sport and they didn't win
00:36:12anything.
00:36:13No, one podium, wasn't it?
00:36:15But they've come here and
00:36:16they've done a fantastic job
00:36:18here at Le Mans.
00:36:19The thing is, this is what
00:36:20they're made for.
00:36:21This is exactly what the
00:36:22Toyota company is made for.
00:36:27So into the slow zone again
00:36:28with the Ford 69 Ford that
00:36:31we're riding on board with.
00:36:36Three hours, 25 to go.
00:36:39Half a minute separates
00:36:40Davidson and Lieb.
00:36:45Matthias Tverstedt on Twitter
00:36:47says, the number five car has
00:36:49made 24 stops.
00:36:50The number two, Porsche, 25.
00:36:53Is the Toyota now an entire stop
00:36:55less than Porsche?
00:36:56Close.
00:36:57Close.
00:36:58I'm not sure they're quite
00:36:59there yet.
00:37:01Well, they might.
00:37:03Actually, they might be.
00:37:08Is that a fair comment, do we
00:37:10think?
00:37:11Davidson, 24 stops compared to
00:37:1425 stops for the Porsche.
00:37:15Are they now actually an entire
00:37:17stop less than Porsche?
00:37:18Have they got to that point yet?
00:37:19They have got to that point,
00:37:20but I think it can happen again.
00:37:21I think that's what we were
00:37:22understanding from what Porsche
00:37:23was saying earlier.
00:37:25The only way Porsche can do it
00:37:27is by eking these stints out
00:37:29on tyres and on fuel.
00:37:31So Porsche think they're going
00:37:32to have to splash and dash
00:37:32before the end, I suspect.
00:37:34Two Fords in together.
00:37:35Briscoe is in and a little bit
00:37:37further ahead of him.
00:37:38The 67 is in as well.
00:37:39Marino Franchitti, who spent
00:37:41all that time down at the
00:37:43Morsan gravel track before we
00:37:44went dark yesterday with...
00:37:46I still, to this hour, think
00:37:50it wasn't driver-induced.
00:37:51Maybe a sticking throttle or
00:37:53something that happened with
00:37:54the brakes or whatever.
00:37:55That's not a Marino Franchitti
00:37:56mistake.
00:37:56I agree.
00:37:57It was very odd, but we never
00:37:59heard any more about that,
00:38:00so I suspect that that's what...
00:38:03Water under the bridge, long
00:38:04gone, and Ford just now keen
00:38:06to get the job done.
00:38:08Make sure that they bring the
00:38:09cars home in a very strong
00:38:11position and fighting every bit
00:38:14for that win, you know.
00:38:16Joey Hand is leading the
00:38:19class.
00:38:20Tony Villander is chasing hard
00:38:23in that 488, but the 488's
00:38:24been fragile this year.
00:38:26So far, the guys have done a
00:38:31fantastic job at Risi, keeping
00:38:33that car just out and ticking
00:38:34around.
00:38:35We see it there on the screen
00:38:36now.
00:38:37You know, that's what they're
00:38:39here to do.
00:38:40That's what Risi competition
00:38:41have always done.
00:38:42The GTE battle is obviously
00:38:45grabbing headlines, Ferrari
00:38:47versus Ford.
00:38:49Adam Bice on Twitter says,
00:38:51so if we finish now, Aston
00:38:53Martin and Ford GT UK will get
00:38:56the most points in the WEC.
00:38:58Potentially, they'll jump Ferrari
00:39:00in the standings.
00:39:00Yeah, and I think that, well,
00:39:02the Ferraris have just had a
00:39:04complete shocker.
00:39:05He's absolutely right.
00:39:06The point being who's full-time
00:39:07WEC and who's not, which we
00:39:09haven't touched on, so it's a
00:39:10very good point to make.
00:39:12Yes, you know, if you're Aston
00:39:13Martin now, you're actually
00:39:14pretty happy with that.
00:39:15If you're a WEC Aston, yeah.
00:39:17And there are all WEC Aston's,
00:39:18of course.
00:39:19Yeah, so, no, I think totally
00:39:21agree with him.
00:39:22Completely agree with him.
00:39:23You're in a good place right
00:39:24now, and your big competitors
00:39:27in the AF Corsa run, Ferrari
00:39:30488s are out.
00:39:32That's it.
00:39:32You know, you are taking this
00:39:33big bag of points now that
00:39:35they've been talking about all
00:39:36week and just doing a runner
00:39:38with it.
00:39:38So, no, completely agree.
00:39:39It's a very good point.
00:39:41The Manor is being assisted
00:39:43back to the pits.
00:39:43It could take a while, this,
00:39:45and surely the Marshals won't
00:39:46be going the whole way with
00:39:47him.
00:39:48What I don't understand is why
00:39:49they're pushing him to a place
00:39:51of safety to fire up.
00:39:52It's like, it's like he can't
00:39:54fire the thing, you know.
00:39:57There's Graves and Meri
00:39:58watching on.
00:40:01Well, it's not Graves, actually.
00:40:03Meri is chatting away.
00:40:08There's the third-base Toyota,
00:40:09Kobayashi, a minute off his
00:40:11sister car, Anthony Davidson
00:40:13leading.
00:40:16Mark Mead in second place
00:40:17to the Porsche.
00:40:19Jarvis and Lotta are
00:40:20fourth and fifth.
00:40:33Kobayashi up the inside at
00:40:34Morsan there.
00:40:38A GT car giving an LMP2.
00:40:42Well, no, it was the Toyota,
00:40:45wasn't it?
00:40:45The hurry up.
00:40:47Do you really think that's
00:40:48going to work?
00:40:48That's a prototype.
00:40:49You're going to give the
00:40:50blinkers to a prototype and
00:40:51think it's going to work,
00:40:52Mr. Porsche?
00:40:52It's not going to happen.
00:40:53It's not going to happen.
00:40:54It depends.
00:40:55You know, some of these
00:40:56GTE cars are pretty quick.
00:40:58And if it's a slower gent in
00:41:00an LMP2 and he's getting
00:41:01held up across the apexes,
00:41:03we saw last night, you know,
00:41:04that there's nothing in it in a
00:41:05straight line.
00:41:07A very quick peddler in a GTE
00:41:10car can be every bit as quick
00:41:12through a twiddly bit as a less
00:41:16quick.
00:41:18Here's why Kobayashi is playing
00:41:20catch-up.
00:41:20P2 car.
00:41:21Yeah, exactly.
00:41:21And I was just having a
00:41:22separate conversation off air
00:41:23with Louise about the floor on
00:41:25the side of that car.
00:41:26The floor is getting worse and
00:41:27worse.
00:41:28And that was made worse by the
00:41:29spin through the gravel.
00:41:31So, you know, he managed to
00:41:33deploy the all-drive system,
00:41:34get that car out of the
00:41:36gravel trap.
00:41:37But the floor is flapping so
00:41:38badly there.
00:41:39I can't see that tank tape's
00:41:41going to fix that now.
00:41:43Next driver is ready.
00:41:45But let's see what comes of
00:41:47it.
00:41:47I suspect they need to do
00:41:48something about it.
00:41:50You know, the fact that we're
00:41:50seeing these close-in shots,
00:41:53does that mean the ACO are
00:41:54looking at it too?
00:41:55There may be an issue with
00:41:57that to put Kobayashi's car
00:42:00the number six out of
00:42:02contention for the victory.
00:42:03Let's look at it.
00:42:04Yeah, that's quite a
00:42:05fundamental problem.
00:42:06Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised
00:42:08he's not feeling it more on
00:42:09the balance.
00:42:10The times are still there.
00:42:12Yeah.
00:42:13Kobayashi's pushing.
00:42:14There's nothing wrong with
00:42:15the times.
00:42:16But that's a big lump of
00:42:18floor in a fairly important
00:42:20area that's broken.
00:42:21They may even have some
00:42:22cooling issues because the
00:42:24airflow down that area of the
00:42:25car is where the radiators
00:42:27are.
00:42:28He's clearly getting on with
00:42:30it and the things working,
00:42:32but we'll see.
00:42:33It's clearly one of those
00:42:34sort of problems where if
00:42:37you keep going fast, then it
00:42:40shouldn't be too much of a
00:42:41problem because he's still
00:42:42going exactly the same sort of
00:42:43pace as Anthony Davidson,
00:42:46Mark Lieb, Oliver Jarvis.
00:42:49So he's there or thereabouts in
00:42:50the sector times where he's not
00:42:52being walked by a slow zone.
00:42:54Kobayashi is still pretty much
00:42:56exactly identical pace to the
00:42:57leaders, so it's not actually
00:42:59slowing him down, but then it
00:43:01could exacerbate.
00:43:02The problem could get worse.
00:43:04So I suppose that's their
00:43:06point of view.
00:43:07In terms of pressure, the next
00:43:09car down the road is 13 laps
00:43:12behind.
00:43:12That is the number eight Audi.
00:43:14So that is a, what, three lap,
00:43:16four lap fix?
00:43:17Yeah, it would be a flaw.
00:43:19Just talking to Louise about
00:43:21what's going on at Audi, and
00:43:22they're prepping ready for some
00:43:24fairly major work on the number
00:43:25seven by the sounds of it.
00:43:26They've got brake discs out and
00:43:29ready, which is, you know, part
00:43:31of standard service.
00:43:31We kind of expect them to push
00:43:33it back into the garage at some
00:43:34stage around now and do that.
00:43:35And again, we're assuming that
00:43:37Porsche and Toyota are all things
00:43:39equal on brake wear and that
00:43:40they're not going to have to do
00:43:41discs and pads at some stage,
00:43:43one or other.
00:43:44That is an assumption that
00:43:45we're currently making based on
00:43:47all these strategy calls.
00:43:48But, yeah, there's something
00:43:50more major going on down at
00:43:52Audi, so as soon as they're in,
00:43:53we'll work it out.
00:43:55The gap has come down again in
00:43:56GTE Pro.
00:43:58Joey Hand leading.
00:43:59Tony Villander starting to get
00:44:00the gap down.
00:44:02Here we go again.
00:44:03How many times can these two
00:44:05manufacturers cross swords in
00:44:06this race?
00:44:07I know, you know, three-second
00:44:08gap.
00:44:10Hand's going to be out at the
00:44:11end of this one.
00:44:12And Villander, I would think,
00:44:13will stay in unless they're going
00:44:14to single, single, single, single
00:44:15to the end.
00:44:18Hand will take tyres, didn't
00:44:20take tyres at the last stop.
00:44:21So whoever the next driver into
00:44:23the forward is will get tyres.
00:44:27Villander and the Ferrari,
00:44:29that's strange.
00:44:30They've split that.
00:44:30So they're getting tyres one
00:44:32stop, driver next stop.
00:44:33Still managing to double stint.
00:44:35But I have to say, if I was those
00:44:37guys, and based on throwing some
00:44:39new boots at it, next one, stick
00:44:41some boots on it, stick the driver
00:44:43in it and get it gone.
00:44:45That's going to be Dirk Muller back
00:44:46into that car at the next stop.
00:44:50Nick Malanga asks a question we
00:44:52haven't needed to answer for about
00:44:5420 hours.
00:44:55Why do the cars still have their
00:44:57lights on?
00:44:57It's completely bright out.
00:44:58Now this is to do with the fact
00:44:59that we started this race under
00:45:01safety car and the race was
00:45:03declared a wet race.
00:45:04Now even though it's dried up and
00:45:05it's burned dry, the regulations
00:45:07stipulate that if the race is
00:45:09declared as a wet race, you have
00:45:11to run with your lights on all
00:45:13the way to the end.
00:45:14That even includes the Le Mans 24
00:45:16hours.
00:45:16So if we started the race behind
00:45:18the safety car, which we did,
00:45:19lights were mandatory.
00:45:20So now they're mandatory for the
00:45:22entirety of the race.
00:45:23It's not because they can see any
00:45:24better with them.
00:45:25They can't.
00:45:25It doesn't make a blind bit of
00:45:26difference in this weather.
00:45:27It would in the wet.
00:45:28It would in the dark, of course.
00:45:29But they've still got to continue
00:45:31using the lights all the way
00:45:33through the race because we
00:45:34started yesterday as a wet race.
00:45:36And that's the reason why the
00:45:37lights are still on.
00:45:40Jake Robson, do you think the
00:45:41number two Porsche's chance of
00:45:42victory is now starting to
00:45:44slowly fade?
00:45:46Lots of questions being asked
00:45:47about that.
00:45:48I think Porsche believe that
00:45:49this is the number seven in,
00:45:51which Louise and I have just
00:45:51been having a conversation about
00:45:53separately.
00:45:53So that's going to go back in
00:45:55the garage by the sounds of it.
00:45:56I think, you know, Porsche 46
00:46:00seconds back, Davidson pulled out
00:46:02an absolutely blinding stint.
00:46:03Everything's equal there, you
00:46:05know, and over the last hour and
00:46:07a half, Davidson's just chipped
00:46:08away, chipped away, chipped away
00:46:09and done that.
00:46:11But like we said before, you could
00:46:12lose half a minute in traffic in
00:46:14no time.
00:46:15It's far from over, far from over
00:46:18now.
00:46:18Andre Lottara comes into the box.
00:46:20So he's pitting and we have a
00:46:23feeling, Louise Beckett tells us,
00:46:24it's going to be in the garage
00:46:26again.
00:46:28Davidson leading by 46 seconds to
00:46:31mark leave in the Porsche now.
00:46:32It's a big gap he's opened up and
00:46:34he's still doing three to four
00:46:36seconds a lap quicker than the
00:46:38Porsche.
00:46:39The Porsche is just having to keep
00:46:40going at the moment.
00:46:41I think we might have jinxed the
00:46:42Aston 95.
00:46:43Oh no!
00:46:43That looks like both left tyres
00:46:46down.
00:46:46Is it just the rear?
00:46:48I think it's the front as well.
00:46:50I think you're right.
00:46:51No, front is up.
00:46:52It's just the rear.
00:46:52We're lucky.
00:46:53He's got lucky.
00:46:53So Turner with a left rear
00:46:54puncture on the way back in.
00:46:56Now, I suspect Darren will come
00:46:58out of the car.
00:46:59They'll fuel it and there'll be a
00:47:02new set of tyres going on that
00:47:03car.
00:47:04Who would that be to the end?
00:47:05Would that be Fernando Ruiz to
00:47:07the end?
00:47:07That won't.
00:47:09Would you triple?
00:47:10No.
00:47:10In a GTE car, that will be
00:47:12Fernando Ruiz in if he's ready.
00:47:14And then Nicky team to the
00:47:15end.
00:47:15And then Nicky team to the
00:47:16end.
00:47:16Yeah.
00:47:17There's the seven back in the
00:47:18garage.
00:47:18No, Fernando Ruiz isn't in that
00:47:19car.
00:47:19We've got that wrong.
00:47:20Oh, sorry.
00:47:21So Marco Sorensen.
00:47:22Marco Sorensen, that's it.
00:47:23I suspect he'll be team in next
00:47:24and then Sorensen to the end.
00:47:26Yeah, Marco Sorensen, the man
00:47:27who felt hard done by Carmen
00:47:29Yorda on Twitter publicly.
00:47:31Bless him.
00:47:33Don't do politics.
00:47:34No, no, no.
00:47:35Politics?
00:47:36Racing?
00:47:36Surely not.
00:47:37No, absolutely.
00:47:39Okay, so Louise will keep us
00:47:41up to date with what's going on
00:47:42with Audi 7.
00:47:43You know, they're out of this
00:47:45but the internal Audi battle is
00:47:47still raging.
00:47:48Oh, that's the Rizzi
00:47:49Competizione Ferrari.
00:47:51It is just a spin, I hope.
00:47:52That is the Rizzi
00:47:53Competizione Ferrari.
00:47:54Same place we saw earlier.
00:47:55Same place as Kobayashi.
00:47:57Now that pretty much.
00:47:58That's a lot of gravel across
00:47:59the track.
00:47:59Yeah, that's going to be a slow
00:48:00zone and that is going to hand
00:48:02potentially with three and a
00:48:04quarter hours to go.
00:48:05That gives Ford the upper hand,
00:48:07not just for the win.
00:48:08The car's restarted.
00:48:09Yeah, he has started the car.
00:48:10He's got it going.
00:48:10Now he's going to turn left
00:48:12and go back through the gravel
00:48:13trap.
00:48:13Ooh.
00:48:14That was a scary moment
00:48:16for Tony Belanda.
00:48:17All wheels, all tyres
00:48:19still are inflated.
00:48:21They're going to have to pit this.
00:48:22Let's see how we did it.
00:48:23Exactly the same.
00:48:24Carbon copy.
00:48:25Yeah, over the bump.
00:48:26There is quite a bump there
00:48:27and if you come through there
00:48:28offline, we stood there
00:48:30watching on Wednesday
00:48:32and the size of the bump,
00:48:35the cars as you're offline,
00:48:37if you try to go around the
00:48:37outside of someone there,
00:48:39it is particularly unsettling.
00:48:40So yeah, same thing.
00:48:42Lost it over the bump.
00:48:43Quiet smile in the Ford garage.
00:48:45We've cracked them.
00:48:46That's what they'll be saying.
00:48:48Still a way to go.
00:48:49Yeah, it's a long way to go.
00:48:50The next thing is whether
00:48:52Willander does come straight
00:48:53into the pits,
00:48:54which he hasn't done.
00:48:55So Darren Turner's made it back
00:48:57now coming past us
00:48:58with the 95.
00:48:59I see a bit of bodywork
00:49:00coming off that car now.
00:49:03So that's DT in.
00:49:05Message from race control.
00:49:06Car 82 spun and continued
00:49:07at 7.33.
00:49:08They're not putting a slow zone out.
00:49:11There was a lot of gravel
00:49:12that came onto the circuit.
00:49:14Yeah, one or two cars through
00:49:15have probably cleared that.
00:49:16So 82 is into the pits.
00:49:18That corner is now going to become
00:49:19Puncture City, potentially.
00:49:22Yeah, potentially.
00:49:23You know, they've been careful
00:49:24with what they've chosen
00:49:25in terms of gravel types.
00:49:26He's trying to look for damage,
00:49:27but there isn't anything there,
00:49:28is there?
00:49:29So that's...
00:49:31So there is the Ritzy Competizione
00:49:35Ferrari, the 82, having pitted.
00:49:38It's caught them out.
00:49:39They've got a fresh set of boots.
00:49:41This is the class that isn't so much
00:49:43thinking about stints and thinking
00:49:44about conservation.
00:49:46You've just got to go ugly
00:49:47and go for it.
00:49:48And that's exactly what
00:49:50Tony Willander did.
00:49:52Pushed too hard
00:49:52and the tires go back on.
00:49:54Now, I'm going to look down the road.
00:49:57Where is the Ford
00:49:59for Ryan Briscoe?
00:50:00It's not going to get
00:50:01into third position.
00:50:02No.
00:50:03Sorry, it's not going to get
00:50:03into second position.
00:50:04The Ferrari will rejoin
00:50:05in second place.
00:50:06But there, ladies and gents,
00:50:07is the third place car.
00:50:09Just giving Joey Hand
00:50:10what he needed
00:50:11in terms of a bit
00:50:12of breathing space.
00:50:13Yeah.
00:50:13The dogfight is now off.
00:50:16But Giancarlo Fisichella
00:50:18getting in that car.
00:50:20They're out of sync
00:50:21on the pit stop.
00:50:22So, again,
00:50:22that depends how
00:50:23that one's going to play out.
00:50:25I suspect that, actually,
00:50:28there was going to be
00:50:28a splash and dash anyway.
00:50:30So, what that may have done now
00:50:31is play into their hands.
00:50:33We talked earlier about
00:50:34maybe some people
00:50:35start thinking of
00:50:36if we're going to go green
00:50:37to the end,
00:50:38let's just get a stop in now.
00:50:40Do a shorter stint now.
00:50:42It doesn't mean
00:50:43do not write
00:50:44that Villanda-Ferrari off.
00:50:46If that means
00:50:47that they haven't got to go
00:50:48and do a splash and dash
00:50:49at the end,
00:50:50that could play them
00:50:50straight back into the game.
00:50:52Yep.
00:50:53It's so close.
00:50:54Ferrari definitely
00:50:55not out of this yet.
00:50:56Yes, they've lost
00:50:57a couple of minutes.
00:50:58But they're still
00:50:59on the lead lap.
00:51:00That is crucial.
00:51:01If they lost the lap now,
00:51:03you might be saying,
00:51:04well, Ford have got this.
00:51:05No.
00:51:06Giancarlo Fisichella
00:51:06hasn't even got back
00:51:07in the car yet.
00:51:09Audi.
00:51:10Long faces.
00:51:12Frustrated.
00:51:13Tired.
00:51:14Exhausted.
00:51:16Desperate need
00:51:17for energy.
00:51:18And it's like
00:51:19hitting your head
00:51:20against a brick wall
00:51:20at the moment
00:51:21in that crew.
00:51:22Nothing seems
00:51:23to be going right.
00:51:24And that's a very
00:51:24crestfallen,
00:51:25a very crestfallen
00:51:27Ben Trillier
00:51:28who's going to take over
00:51:29from Andre Lotterer.
00:51:31All they can do
00:51:32now is get points.
00:51:33All they can do
00:51:33is get points.
00:51:34Yeah, get on with it
00:51:35and just see what
00:51:36they can do.
00:51:37This is a world championship.
00:51:38You know,
00:51:38they've won
00:51:39the first two rounds.
00:51:41They had the
00:51:41Silverstone victory
00:51:42taken away from them
00:51:43due to a plank wear
00:51:44issue at the end.
00:51:46They want to win it.
00:51:47They want to be there.
00:51:49And it's not just
00:51:50about Le Mans 24 hour
00:51:52anymore.
00:51:52So let's see.
00:51:53Let's see whether
00:51:53they can come back
00:51:55from this next time
00:51:56out in the six hour
00:51:58race of the Nürburgring.
00:52:00Well, for those
00:52:00petrolheads with
00:52:01small children
00:52:02of the male persuasion,
00:52:04happy Father's Day.
00:52:05You're getting an
00:52:05absolutely cracking
00:52:06bit of entertainment
00:52:08to sort you out
00:52:09for the rest of the day.
00:52:11It's not a bad way
00:52:11to spend Father's Day,
00:52:12is it?
00:52:12No, it's not.
00:52:13Glued to the box,
00:52:14the best motor race
00:52:15you're going to see
00:52:16this year playing out
00:52:17before your very eyes.
00:52:18Hopefully I can get back
00:52:19and see my kids tonight,
00:52:20but we'll see.
00:52:21Same.
00:52:22I don't think I'm going
00:52:23to see my children
00:52:23until tomorrow,
00:52:24unfortunately.
00:52:25And all three of them
00:52:27have been bouncing up
00:52:28and down with joy.
00:52:29Daddy's going to do
00:52:30Le Mans.
00:52:30Daddy's going to do
00:52:31Le Mans.
00:52:32And yeah,
00:52:33I think I did that
00:52:34at one point as well.
00:52:35Daddy's going to do
00:52:36Le Mans.
00:52:36So yeah,
00:52:38I'm absolutely desperate
00:52:39to run back
00:52:40to see the kids.
00:52:41It's been a fantastic
00:52:42weekend,
00:52:42but on a day like today,
00:52:44you want to be near them.
00:52:44Mark Lieb,
00:52:45he's in the pits though.
00:52:47The Porsche Moxes.
00:52:49So this could be
00:52:51technically...
00:52:5349 seconds,
00:52:5450 seconds
00:52:55Davidson's now got.
00:52:56Yeah.
00:52:56You know,
00:52:57he has just
00:52:58absolutely thrown
00:52:59those times in.
00:53:00They've not been
00:53:01massively quick times,
00:53:02but he's been able
00:53:02to drive away from them.
00:53:04Kobayashi,
00:53:05last time round,
00:53:0629.
00:53:08Kobayashi
00:53:09is coming into the pits.
00:53:10Le Manson's just confirming
00:53:11that there's an awful lot
00:53:12of tape
00:53:13being made up
00:53:14ready
00:53:15for the number six.
00:53:17So here we go.
00:53:18This is going to be...
00:53:19This is going to be it.
00:53:21The most important commodity.
00:53:22All right,
00:53:23they're cleaning it
00:53:23so that the tape sticks.
00:53:25Kobayashi's out.
00:53:26In goes...
00:53:28Who is that?
00:53:29It's very broken.
00:53:30Sarrazin.
00:53:32Sarrazin's in the car.
00:53:33Driver change at Porsche
00:53:34was there.
00:53:36Surely it must be time
00:53:37for Mark Lieb
00:53:37to get out of the car.
00:53:38No.
00:53:40Yes,
00:53:41Lieb should be out.
00:53:43We extended that
00:53:43so I'd suggest
00:53:44the change has already happened.
00:53:45So who did they put in?
00:53:46Because we didn't see that.
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:52So maybe...
00:53:53We should be Dumas now
00:53:54and then Yarny to the end
00:53:55is what I think
00:53:56we're going to do.
00:53:57Big sticky plaster
00:53:58going on the side of that car.
00:53:59Here we go.
00:54:00The tape.
00:54:01It's the most precious...
00:54:02They're being careful
00:54:03about how they do it.
00:54:04They know they haven't got
00:54:05that much pressure
00:54:06from behind
00:54:06so they're doing it properly.
00:54:08They're doing it sensibly
00:54:08making sure
00:54:09that the repair
00:54:11on the floor is okay.
00:54:12The last thing they want
00:54:13is that tape
00:54:14to go on
00:54:14and fall off immediately.
00:54:16That's not on, boys.
00:54:17That's not on.
00:54:18That's not on the car.
00:54:19Get the camera out of the way
00:54:21and go back
00:54:21and fix that.
00:54:22Do the proper job.
00:54:23Yeah, that's not going to do it,
00:54:25is it?
00:54:25No.
00:54:25The mechanics have made
00:54:26a mistake there.
00:54:27The first time
00:54:28that car goes down the Mulsanne
00:54:29that's going to fly off.
00:54:30Yeah, well...
00:54:31It may last a little bit longer
00:54:34than that
00:54:34but it's certainly not
00:54:35going to stay completely attached.
00:54:37They needed to get in there
00:54:38and give it another pat.
00:54:40I hope somebody's...
00:54:42Somebody in the pit lane
00:54:42said to them,
00:54:43that's not stuck.
00:54:44That's not stuck.
00:54:44Get it fixed.
00:54:45Get it fixed.
00:54:46Well, you know that Porsche
00:54:46aren't going to tell them that.
00:54:47No.
00:54:48Radio from...
00:54:48So, Anthony Davidson requesting
00:55:07a fourth stint on those tyres.
00:55:09Toyota saying,
00:55:10no, let's stay safe.
00:55:13I can understand why, actually.
00:55:14Because...
00:55:15Neil Yarny it is
00:55:17who's in the car.
00:55:18Okay.
00:55:19So, Neil Yarny
00:55:20has got into the Porsche.
00:55:22Now, that suggests to me...
00:55:23They're going to try and push now.
00:55:24Maybe they are going to push him
00:55:25to the end.
00:55:26Well, they're going to push now.
00:55:27They're going to push very hard now.
00:55:29So, maybe they're going to leave
00:55:30Neil Yarny in the car
00:55:31until the bitter end.
00:55:32Until that lady sinks.
00:55:33Porsche.
00:55:34They're going to...
00:55:34Sorry, Toyota.
00:55:35They're just going to...
00:55:35They've put their quickest
00:55:36of the quick in
00:55:37to try and see
00:55:39if he can eke it out.
00:55:42Well, Davidson is the smoothest
00:55:44of those three drivers.
00:55:46Would you say he's the fastest?
00:55:47I think he probably is
00:55:48of those three.
00:55:48No.
00:55:49Kamui Kobayashi at times
00:55:50has shown that he's
00:55:52the quickest
00:55:53of the Toyota drivers.
00:55:54But, you know,
00:55:55in that car,
00:55:56in the Davidson car,
00:55:57I don't...
00:55:59Yeah.
00:56:00I mean, they tried...
00:56:00He qualified it.
00:56:02Buemi, you could argue,
00:56:03might be quicker than Davidson,
00:56:05but...
00:56:05Yeah.
00:56:06Davidson qualified it.
00:56:08That's good enough for us.
00:56:10Out he goes.
00:56:11The race leader
00:56:11looking for Toyota's first win.
00:56:14If they do this,
00:56:15they will be the second
00:56:16Japanese manufacturer to win.
00:56:18The first to do so
00:56:18for 25 years
00:56:20after Mazda
00:56:21in 1991
00:56:22with Volker Weidler,
00:56:24Bertrand Gachot
00:56:25and Britain's own
00:56:26Johnny Herbert.
00:56:27This year,
00:56:28it could well be
00:56:29another trio
00:56:30with a British man
00:56:32in the field.
00:56:34Sebastián Bohemi,
00:56:35Kazuki Nakajima
00:56:36and Anthony Davidson.
00:56:38Could happen.
00:56:39It'll be the third time
00:56:40a Japanese team
00:56:40has won
00:56:41after Team Go
00:56:43that won
00:56:43with the Audi R8
00:56:44with Dindo Capello,
00:56:46Tom Christensen
00:56:47and Seiji Arah.
00:56:49A forgotten man
00:56:50almost in the world
00:56:51of the Le Mans 24 hours.
00:56:53And Seiji Arah
00:56:53in 2004
00:56:54actually did a lot
00:56:56of the legwork.
00:56:59On board
00:56:59with the number 7 Audi.
00:57:03All is not well.
00:57:07Number 68,
00:57:08Joey Hand
00:57:09is in the pit.
00:57:11It'll be interesting
00:57:11to see if he
00:57:12stays in that car.
00:57:14Just as things
00:57:18are starting
00:57:19to get fever pitch,
00:57:20I realise
00:57:20in five minutes
00:57:21Julian Porter
00:57:22and Peter Dunbrecht
00:57:22are going to be in here
00:57:23and we're going to be
00:57:23out of a job
00:57:24for three hours.
00:57:25Absolutely.
00:57:25So what's this going on
00:57:26with the number 7?
00:57:27He is up to full space.
00:57:29He just looked slow
00:57:30out of there.
00:57:32This is so tight.
00:57:34This is so tense.
00:57:35Toyota haven't got
00:57:35this one yet.
00:57:36Porsche haven't lost
00:57:37this yet.
00:57:38No, absolutely.
00:57:39The 7 is still
00:57:42in the pit lane
00:57:43I believe.
00:57:44No, the 7 is
00:57:45out on track.
00:57:46Benoit Trilio.
00:57:46They've done the work
00:57:47and he's now
00:57:48back out there.
00:57:48Front and rear deck
00:57:49off that car again.
00:57:50It was very odd.
00:57:52So Oliver Jarvis
00:57:53back out and circulating
00:57:54as well.
00:57:55So both the Audis
00:57:56out there
00:57:57trying to pick up
00:57:57the points.
00:57:59Yeah, Oliver Jarvis
00:57:59was in the pits
00:58:00for 39 minutes
00:58:02and 24 seconds.
00:58:03That's one of the
00:58:04longest pit stops
00:58:05Audi have done
00:58:05in this race.
00:58:06Joey Hand
00:58:07stayed in the Ford
00:58:08for a triple.
00:58:09Yes, he did.
00:58:10They obviously feel
00:58:11he's looking pretty
00:58:12comfortable at the moment.
00:58:13Yeah, I mean
00:58:14he's obviously doing
00:58:15a grand job.
00:58:16I would have thought
00:58:17by now they would have
00:58:18made the change
00:58:19and then just done
00:58:20a double
00:58:21and then a single
00:58:22to the end.
00:58:23But whoever they're
00:58:23going to put in next
00:58:24which is going to be
00:58:25It's going to be
00:58:27Bordet, isn't it?
00:58:27Because Muller's
00:58:28already just done one.
00:58:30We've seen Sebastian
00:58:31just do a long run.
00:58:32Sebastian has just
00:58:33done a long run
00:58:34so it would be
00:58:34Muller back in.
00:58:36That's true
00:58:37because Muller
00:58:37was only in for
00:58:38what?
00:58:39One stint?
00:58:39Two stints?
00:58:40Two stints.
00:58:41Two stints, yeah.
00:58:41So they could go
00:58:42for Muller actually.
00:58:44I think it would be.
00:58:44I think it would be
00:58:45Durkin and then
00:58:46the times we saw him
00:58:47putting in earlier
00:58:48he was the quicker
