00:00:00There is once again the 41 year leader in the LMP2 category.
00:00:05Green OJ behind the wheel right now.
00:00:07249 laps in the book, second place.
00:00:10So he'll be already right now in the 26th.
00:00:12The Signatech Nissan car that started from the LMP2 pole
00:00:16and shown two laps, actually four laps back, I should say, right now.
00:00:22So the Greaves Motorsport entry, a little bit of breathing room right now in LMP2,
00:00:26but with five hours and 16 minutes left, I wouldn't say breathing room right now.
00:00:31It is Le Mans. Anything can happen.
00:00:33Hats off to these P2 teams who have done a great job of keeping these guys out there
00:00:38and running throughout the night.
00:00:40These cars were known as being too brittle for a long time.
00:00:44They've come a long way, actually, from where we'd seen none of them finish.
00:00:48Now they're actually coming to the point where they're racing quite hard
00:00:51and pulling this off this Nissan.
00:00:54Oh, another big accident.
00:00:55There's a big crash.
00:00:56Is that the Audi?
00:00:57It's the Audi.
00:00:58It's the Audi.
00:01:00Benrod.
00:01:01No, it's the Peugeot.
00:01:02No, no, no, no.
00:01:02It's the Peugeot.
00:01:03It's the Peugeot.
00:01:06Indeed, the blue mirrors.
00:01:07That is the seven.
00:01:09That is Alexander Virts.
00:01:12You hear him trying to get out, but obviously stuck in the gravel.
00:01:15And the other question is,
00:01:16how much damage has been done to the front suspension from the long shot?
00:01:19It looked like the Audi at first, but it is the Peugeot,
00:01:24so now it's two against one.
00:01:28Yeah, it is.
00:01:28He just got too high getting in there, carrying so much speed.
00:01:32That's not too big.
00:01:33Pretty good impact on the right front.
00:01:34Yeah.
00:01:34It looks like he'll get back to the pits and get that thing turned around quite quickly,
00:01:37but that's not the kind of thing that you need to happen.
00:01:39On board?
00:01:40It just doesn't get the car turned in.
00:01:42It makes the move and then stops turning, and then, boom, the impact.
00:01:47And once again, late in the race, a lot of dirt off the line,
00:01:51and it seems to make the move initially,
00:01:54but then kind of gives up and stays wide at the apex.
00:01:56And with that speed, you're not going to keep it on the track of the exit.
00:01:59Once you get past midway offline, you're not coming back.
00:02:03You can't.
00:02:04I mean, you get so much dirt and gravel.
00:02:06You just take a look at the right-hand side of the screen.
00:02:08You look at all the gravel that's on the track.
00:02:11There's a point of no return, and he just reached it.
00:02:13Look at the right front suspension, though, guys.
00:02:15It's hard to see.
00:02:17They're telling him further through the gravel trap as opposed to...
00:02:21I guess I'm going to get him behind him.
00:02:24There's an access road back there.
00:02:25I don't see that right front tire turning.
00:02:28It's hard to tell from here, but that might have been a bigger lick than we thought.
00:02:32It was a hit almost directly on the right front suspension,
00:02:36so the concern would be, you know, that right front suspension,
00:02:41whether it's an A-arm or a push rod that could be bent or dislodged,
00:02:45but obviously the body work is going to have to be addressed
00:02:48if he can get it back fired and back to pits.
00:02:51And it becomes a...
00:02:52That's exactly right.
00:02:53He gets a lot of damage.
00:02:55It becomes...
00:02:56Now, can we get it back to the pit, or can it survive to get the...
00:03:00Well, you're going to have to tie him to the guardrail
00:03:03to keep him from trying to drive it back.
00:03:04That's for certain the Audi crew looking on.
00:03:07A lot of interest.
00:03:08Now, there it is, high and wide.
00:03:10And then, of course, right on the edge of the racetrack is the gravel.
00:03:13Once you're in the gravel, you're certainly not going to get the car turned.
00:03:16Yeah, when he was out there that far,
00:03:17there was no way it was going to turn no matter what.
00:03:20Take another look here.
00:03:21There's too much speed.
00:03:27That big hit.
00:03:27Now, he's got it back on the track.
00:03:29And, Andrew, he's heading your way.
00:03:31What do you have from the Peugeot Camp?
00:03:32Yeah, they're already prepared to change that front corner.
00:03:39They've got the front corner ready to fit on the car.
00:03:42What they'll do first, but as they always do,
00:03:44they'll fuel it up, and then they'll put it on the dollies
00:03:46and push it back into the garage area.
00:03:49So, Peugeot are ready for this.
00:03:52It'll be interesting to see how quickly it takes them to fix it.
00:03:54I'm sure they have a full right corner already assembled.
00:03:58Absolutely, they do.
00:03:58We saw that happen earlier.
00:04:00You know, they'll do a quick disconnect and pull that all off there
00:04:03and put a new one on pretty quickly.
00:04:05It looked, to me, like it was slightly askew,
00:04:08perhaps too much negative camber in it.
00:04:09And one thing's for certain, at this racetrack,
00:04:12yes, it certainly looks askew.
00:04:14At this racetrack, you're not going to go back out
00:04:17with a suspension that might be suspect.
00:04:18Like, the speeds here, the loads.
00:04:21Once again, we talk about risk and reward.
00:04:24The risk is way, way too high.
00:04:26Now, for the seven car,
00:04:28the chance at victory may very well be gone.
00:04:30But it's very well gone right here.
00:04:32You certainly want to keep your driver safe.
00:04:34And, I mean, yeah.
00:04:37It's taken quite a bit of hit.
00:04:40Now, the only hope is it just bent to suspension
00:04:42and hasn't hurt the toe.
00:04:43The second part of this equation is,
00:04:45because of all the carbon fiber out there,
00:04:47will they throw a yellow,
00:04:48which some people could really use right now?
00:04:50And it looked to me like the right rear
00:04:52could potentially be askew as well.
00:04:54The camber seemed to be off on the right rear,
00:04:56although that portion of the car
00:04:58didn't take a big lick.
00:04:59But to me, that right rear looks straight up and down.
00:05:02And typically, you'd see a little negative camber.
00:05:04And to me, it almost looks positive.
00:05:06I think that the front one's just,
00:05:08oh, yeah, you can see it's broken on top.
00:05:09It definitely has an issue there on the front.
00:05:12And sticking by my guns,
00:05:13that there's something maybe askew
00:05:15in the right rear as well.
00:05:16Andrew, is there.
00:05:18The right rear looks absolutely fine to me.
00:05:25Can't see any damage on it at all.
00:05:27The car will be fueled up, of course,
00:05:30first, as I said,
00:05:31and then it's going to be pushed back on the dollies.
00:05:33They do have that corner waiting to fit on,
00:05:36as you would expect.
00:05:37So there it is on the dollies, turning it around,
00:05:41pushing it back into the garage.
00:05:43Alexandra Virch is climbing out of the car
00:05:45as it goes back into the garage area.
00:05:47And this is major, major drama.
00:05:51And at the Audi press conference on Friday,
00:05:55Dr. Ulrich said,
00:05:56you have to have a perfect race.
00:05:58If your car goes on the dollies even once,
00:06:00it's not going to win.
00:06:01That's your variable camber right front.
00:06:05That's not what you want either.
00:06:06That's not what you want.
00:06:07That's one of those things where you've got to push hard,
00:06:10but you just can't take a chance on making that mistake.
00:06:12Even if it's a little mistake,
00:06:14it's a huge risk that turned out bad.
00:06:18And now there are two effectively in the fight.
00:06:22And Stefan Sarazen still a lap down
00:06:25to Benoit Trillier and Simon Paginot.
00:06:28So really, it may be mano a mano.
00:06:31Paginot versus Trillier, Peugeot versus Audi.
00:06:34It's exactly what we expected at the start of this race
00:06:37after watching qualifying.
00:06:39More action from Le Mans.
00:06:40We said it's not over until it's over.
00:06:42It is not disappointing.
00:06:43Make sure you stay with us.
00:06:48I don't think you call that an issue.
00:06:51I call that an off and a hit.
00:06:53And a contact.
00:06:54A crash.
00:06:55How's that?
00:06:56And I'm surprised it didn't have a pre-assembled
00:06:58right front corner for that thing.
00:06:59You see him now piecing it together.
00:07:01It takes longer.
00:07:02Andrew Marriott is down there.
00:07:04And knowing Andrew,
00:07:04he may be wearing a Peugeot fire suit
00:07:06and actually doing some of the work himself.
00:07:08He's very sneaky that way.
00:07:09Andrew, what do you see?
00:07:13That would be a very good idea.
00:07:14Well, frantic French fingers
00:07:17are flinging around here
00:07:18and they did have a corner waiting
00:07:21but I had a good look at it.
00:07:23Even the steering arm wasn't even tweaked
00:07:26and I think they probably decided
00:07:28that I'm just looking to see if that corner...
00:07:31No, I think they have put a new corner on actually
00:07:33but a lot of that they did it so quickly
00:07:36it all happened in the break
00:07:37so they are connecting this new corner up
00:07:39but Alexandre Wurz wandered over
00:07:42with his crash helmet off
00:07:44had a look at what they were doing
00:07:46and with a very disgruntled look on his face
00:07:48then wandered back into the management area
00:07:51at the back of the garage.
00:07:52Alexandre Wurz, all that experience
00:07:54but even these top drivers
00:07:56with all the Grand Prix's he's driven
00:07:59they can still make mistakes
00:08:01when the pressure's on at Le Mans.
00:08:03And Wurz, we talked about it earlier
00:08:05had been the more calming influence
00:08:07when they took the victory
00:08:09he and Marc Genet and David Brabham in 2009
00:08:13and this time, I don't know whether it was exuberance
00:08:16or just a little debris on the racetrack
00:08:18it doesn't matter
00:08:19the end result was the same
00:08:21and that was the Peugeot in the tire wall
00:08:24and the damage to that front suspension.
00:08:29Looking at the BMW here, Dirk Mueller
00:08:31the 56, is it coming in?
00:08:34No, we just...
00:08:35But look at the radiator opening the grill
00:08:39down below the inlets there
00:08:41that are so much the BMW trademark
00:08:45a lot of grass and debris
00:08:46almost completely blocked.
00:08:49I wonder if that's what happened to the other car
00:08:50we saw, I'm not sure what was going on with the engine
00:08:53we saw a big puff of smoke coming out
00:08:55of the sister car to that BMW.
00:08:58Look like one of them has been off
00:09:01down in Indianapolis recently.
00:09:02That was the car that was reported with fluid
00:09:05coming out from the hood
00:09:05it looked like they were playing with the radiators
00:09:07as the Audi team prepares.
00:09:11Benoit Chulier has been absolutely magic
00:09:15this week here at Le Mans
00:09:1833 seconds in hand over Simon Pagino right now
00:09:22and still consistently about six-tenths to three-quarters of a second faster
00:09:29than Pagino each lap
00:09:32and is it because he's taking more risks?
00:09:34We certainly have seen him do that
00:09:36or is it because the R18 has really come into its own here
00:09:39in the ladder going?
00:09:40Fuel mileage.
00:09:40Or fuel mileage or that the Peugeots have begun to lose
00:09:44what edge that they had?
00:09:46We don't know the answer we do know the result right now
00:09:49but we do know one thing he can't stay in for the next five hours
00:09:52so there's a change
00:09:54Bordet
00:09:55I'll helmet it up getting ready to go
00:09:59Bordet will take over from Pagino
00:10:02what a, I mean, how cool would it be to win in the home town?
00:10:07Yeah
00:10:07That would be massive for today
00:10:09and it's not just your hometown
00:10:11it is Le Mans and all that means
00:10:13look at the gravel on the road
00:10:15from the BMW that was off there in Indianapolis
00:10:19Trillier comes through that cleanly
00:10:21but that could be an issue coming back later
00:10:24we saw Birch with the mistake in Indianapolis
00:10:27and that was even before that gravel was laid down
00:10:29so we have seen so many punctures in the last day
00:10:33with all this gravel that was sharp
00:10:36another thing I noticed is the bodywork has not healed itself
00:10:39on the number two Audi
00:10:41and it doesn't seem to get much worse though
00:10:43the engineers aren't worried about it
00:10:45so whatever it is and what we're seeing is
00:10:48is a non-issue for the Audi team itself
00:10:51this is not what Trillier wanted
00:10:53he's caught slower traffic through the Porsche curves
00:10:56it appears that he's going to pit this lap
00:10:58he must be able to get over and get in
00:11:00if you don't get in
00:11:02it's eight and a half miles around
00:11:04the chances are
00:11:05if you were scheduled to come in that lap
00:11:06you will not make it around
00:11:08you can't gamble on fuel mileage at Le Mans
00:11:12the lap is just too long
00:11:14to gamble
00:11:16and now Trillier on pit road
00:11:18he is put in a stint and a half here
00:11:2260k down pit road a long run down
00:11:26and Jamie Howe I'm sure they're set up down in Audi
00:11:30they know Benoit is on his way in
00:11:32driver change this time or will Trillier stay in the car
00:11:34it looks like Trillier is going to stay in the car
00:11:40they are going to help him out a little bit
00:11:41and give him a new drink bottle
00:11:43he has been in the car for quite some time
00:11:45but he's turning nothing but competitive lap times
00:11:48no reason to take him out right now
00:11:50he has not reached his maximum
00:11:51they do have a new set of tires ready
00:11:53but I'm not sure that they're going to put him on
00:11:56fuel still going in right now
00:11:58Brad Keller is knelt down
00:12:00that is the sign
00:12:01it looks like as soon as this fuel is complete
00:12:03they're going to get Trillier back out and underway
00:12:06and not take tires
00:12:07that's exactly what's happened
00:12:08car's fired up and he's out
00:12:10now as the car sat there
00:12:12I looked at it a little closer
00:12:14and I believe that the piece that we see loose
00:12:17is only a suspension cover
00:12:20I don't think it's the nose itself
00:12:22I think it's an area about the size of a softball
00:12:25there on that nose
00:12:26that seems to be a little bit loose
00:12:27and if that is the case
00:12:29then obviously any handling deficiencies
00:12:33would be minimal
00:12:34that it would cause with just a little bit of turbulence
00:12:36so perhaps that's why the Audi team
00:12:38not interested in making a change
00:12:39a little more drag
00:12:40it just dirties up the arrow a little bit
00:12:42but not enough
00:12:43yeah it's nothing but a hump
00:12:44that's what I was talking about
00:12:46locking her up just a little bit
00:12:47that's what I was talking about
00:12:48he is getting all of the areas to get
00:12:51well now I've changed my mind
00:12:55I don't know
00:12:55but it doesn't really matter
00:12:57because Trillier is saying
00:12:57hey it's not bothering the car
00:12:59let's run
00:12:59and in fact he can't see it
00:13:01no he can't see that thing at all
00:13:03he can't see it
00:13:04our camera's on the other side
00:13:05so once again if the engineers aren't concerned
00:13:07and the driver doesn't feel it
00:13:09doesn't matter
00:13:10Bourdais talking to the crew
00:13:12I believe that was Bruno Femme
00:13:15that he was speaking with
00:13:16and he'll take over
00:13:17from Paginot
00:13:19Paginot takes the lead
00:13:20obviously when Trillier comes to Pitlip Road
00:13:23Frank Montagnier having a word
00:13:25with Bourdais before
00:13:26Bourdais gets ready to climb aboard
00:13:29the 9
00:13:30it'll be interesting to see
00:13:33with this amount of time left
00:13:35almost five hours to go
00:13:37when Bourdais climbs in
00:13:39takes over from Paginot
00:13:40will they hand Pedro Lamy the car
00:13:42to finish the event
00:13:43some feel that Pedro is a little more prone
00:13:46to unforced errors this season
00:13:48than what they've seen in the past
00:13:50and to cycle him through
00:13:52to be that driver that's in
00:13:53at the checkered flag
00:13:54would be a little surprising to me
00:13:56if indeed the team feels that way as well
00:14:01so Bourdais getting ready to get in
00:14:03and that means they're either going to pull
00:14:04Paginot and let him rest
00:14:06and then put him back in
00:14:07and not put Pedro back in
00:14:09for the rest of this event
00:14:11or put him in and send him to the checkers
00:14:13it remains to be seen
00:14:15it remains to be seen
00:14:16we're just under five hours now
00:14:18left in 24 hours in the mall
00:14:20and without a doubt
00:14:21you want to put your strongest drivers in
00:14:23at the finish
00:14:24you're going to let things unfold
00:14:25just a little bit more
00:14:26now you can see the end of the race
00:14:29now you can see that checkered flag
00:14:31and start working yourself backwards
00:14:32and as you get closer and closer
00:14:34it becomes a little clearer
00:14:35a little clearer
00:14:36on how you want to play off
00:14:37these last stages
00:14:38and who and which driver
00:14:40is going to be going to work
00:14:42right now Chollier
00:14:44about 23 and a half seconds back
00:14:47from Simon Paginot
00:14:48Paginot a pretty good lap
00:14:49that last time
00:14:50and Chollier getting back up to speed
00:14:52so about eight seconds
00:14:54off of Paginot's pace
00:14:55the last time by
00:14:57but when you look at the segment times
00:14:59he was spot on
00:15:01with Paginot through segment two
00:15:03segment three times
00:15:04yet to be
00:15:05turned in just yet
00:15:07riding on board with Chollier
00:15:08a little tippy toe here
00:15:14through the Porsche curves
00:15:15this is not where he's been doing
00:15:17a lot of tippy toeing
00:15:18over the last hour
00:15:19it was this last portion
00:15:23of the Porsche curves
00:15:24this left-hander
00:15:24just coming past
00:15:26the karting center
00:15:27off to the right
00:15:28where he was using
00:15:29all of that extra asphalt
00:15:30and almost then some
00:15:32to make a couple of passes
00:15:35that we saw there
00:15:36some spectacular stuff
00:15:37and while it may not
00:15:39have taken his breath away
00:15:40inside the car
00:15:41it certainly took our breath away
00:15:42watching it both on board
00:15:44and from outside
00:15:45well he found that little extra road
00:15:48that he could pass on
00:15:49and once he got realized
00:15:50it looks like it goes from
00:15:51black to green
00:15:53to black again
00:15:54so if you're going to commit to going
00:15:56you need to go all the way
00:15:57you need to go all the way
00:15:58and once he found it
00:15:59you know then he uses it
00:16:00yeah once you realize
00:16:01hey it worked the last time
00:16:02maybe I'll do it again
00:16:03it's like that road at Elkhart
00:16:04that comes off the blind up tanner
00:16:06I mean he doesn't go over there
00:16:07Tommy Milner
00:16:09in the 73 Corvette
00:16:10about two minutes
00:16:12right at three minutes
00:16:13behind right now
00:16:14Fizzichella
00:16:15he's made up some time
00:16:17Jamie
00:16:17Tommy Milner
00:16:22has now climbed out
00:16:23of the car
00:16:23Antonio Garcia
00:16:24is getting behind the wheel
00:16:26you can see the Corvette crew
00:16:27cleaning off the windshield
00:16:28making sure Garcia
00:16:29has a clear view
00:16:30when he gets out
00:16:31looks like they are going
00:16:33to take a set of tires
00:16:34right now
00:16:34fuel still being
00:16:35put in the car
00:16:36no other work
00:16:37can be done
00:16:37other than just
00:16:38cleaning it up
00:16:39and driver change
00:16:40here level 5
00:16:42motorsports behind me
00:16:43they just fired up
00:16:44car up on the jacks
00:16:46tires going on now
00:16:47perfectly orchestrated
00:16:49for Corvette racing
00:16:50they pride themselves
00:16:52on this
00:16:52they do competitions
00:16:54amongst themselves
00:16:55between the two cars
00:16:5673 cars
00:16:57everything going
00:16:58great right now
00:16:59one gun
00:17:00two guys
00:17:01fourth tire on
00:17:03he's off the jacks
00:17:07and Antonio Garcia
00:17:08is out of good lane
00:17:09this car needs speed
00:17:11so it doesn't surprise me
00:17:12they're putting tires on
00:17:13I mean they're going to
00:17:14have to really start
00:17:15running some laps
00:17:15they do
00:17:16they have to run
00:17:17some hard laps
00:17:18so like I said
00:17:20it seems that Tommy Miller
00:17:21had closed on Fizzichella
00:17:23a little bit there
00:17:24in that last segment
00:17:25and it could have been
00:17:26that Fizzichella was just
00:17:27in the pits as well
00:17:28those out and in laps
00:17:30are absolutely critical
00:17:31if you catch traffic
00:17:32and you got to back off
00:17:33we've seen cars
00:17:34carry big speed
00:17:35out of the Porsche curves
00:17:36all the way to pit in
00:17:37and if you're not able
00:17:38to do that
00:17:39you lose valuable seconds
00:17:40and when you think
00:17:42about it
00:17:42right now
00:17:43after what
00:17:4519 hours and change
00:17:46we've got the leaders
00:17:47of this race overall
00:17:48only 28 seconds apart
00:17:51and it's
00:17:52that's just
00:17:52phenomenal
00:17:53when you think about it
00:17:54the battle in GTE Pro
00:17:56just as close as well
00:17:58so you can't afford
00:18:00to give up that time
00:18:01on the in laps
00:18:02and on the out laps
00:18:03you can't afford
00:18:04to give up any time
00:18:05I don't care
00:18:06if it's in the pits
00:18:06changing tires
00:18:08whatever the case might be
00:18:09they're trying to stretch
00:18:09everything
00:18:10and get every ounce
00:18:12of performance
00:18:14out of the car
00:18:15that they can
00:18:16but at the same time
00:18:17if they can run
00:18:18two stints
00:18:18three stints
00:18:19four stints
00:18:20on a set of tires
00:18:21they absolutely will
00:18:22because there's a penalty
00:18:23for that tire change
00:18:24while they're sitting
00:18:25in pit lane
00:18:25and they're always
00:18:26doing that calculation
00:18:27of lap time
00:18:28compared to
00:18:29do I need the
00:18:30extra performance
00:18:31for that new set of tires
00:18:32or can we go ahead
00:18:33and leave these on
00:18:34gain loss
00:18:35try to figure out
00:18:36which is going to be
00:18:37more important
00:18:38the 10 is in
00:18:39the 908 HDI
00:18:42tire
00:18:42huge Sean X
00:18:43yep
00:18:43the problem
00:18:44and you saw
00:18:45the left front lockup
00:18:46when he came in
00:18:47which kind of gives you
00:18:48an idea that the cross
00:18:49weight in the car
00:18:50is off
00:18:50and the reason it is
00:18:52that right rear Michelin
00:18:53has decided to give up
00:18:55the ghost
00:18:55let's go back
00:18:56to the racks
00:18:56on the racetrack
00:18:57we saw the BMW
00:18:58with a problem
00:18:58in Indianapolis
00:18:59the stones out there
00:19:01like you know
00:19:02we've talked about
00:19:03that every year here
00:19:04these stones
00:19:04and gravel traps
00:19:05are very very sharp
00:19:07and I remember
00:19:08going out there
00:19:09and doing a piece
00:19:10on it
00:19:10actually going out
00:19:10and gravel traps
00:19:11and grabbing some of them
00:19:12and they're just like
00:19:13knives
00:19:13unbelievable
00:19:14you'd think they would
00:19:15have changed it
00:19:16that was in the rental car
00:19:17right
00:19:17you got out
00:19:17no
00:19:18that was a different deal
00:19:19different rental car
00:19:20different track
00:19:21different
00:19:22now you see
00:19:23what is
00:19:24why is the
00:19:25crew member
00:19:25interesting perhaps
00:19:30just trying to
00:19:31stay out of the way
00:19:32of the tire changers
00:19:33and a very quick
00:19:34tire change there
00:19:34as well
00:19:35you see the crew
00:19:35member as he
00:19:36runs past
00:19:37the rear of the car
00:19:38pulls the air hose
00:19:39lucky to get that back
00:19:42with no damage
00:19:42no further damage
00:19:44with that carcass
00:19:45flopping around
00:19:46like that
00:19:47there's the pescarolo
00:19:49entry as they flash by
00:19:50as well as
00:19:51the number seven
00:19:53Anthony Davidson
00:19:55behind the wheel
00:19:55after Alexander
00:19:56Wirtz had his issue
00:19:57so seven car
00:19:58now back on track
00:20:00and I believe
00:20:01it's still Julian
00:20:02juice behind the wheel
00:20:03of the pescarolo
00:20:05running fifth
00:20:06first in the petrol
00:20:07class as we call it
00:20:08we should be seeing
00:20:10the number nine
00:20:11Peugeot
00:20:11making his way to pit lane
00:20:14potentially this lap
00:20:16at least by our calculations
00:20:18he should be
00:20:19270
00:20:21275
00:20:23274 right now
00:20:26and that's 12
00:20:27there's Julian juice
00:20:30coming up on
00:20:31I believe it's
00:20:32David Murray
00:20:32right now
00:20:33in the Ford GT
00:20:34for Robertson Racing
00:20:35get a good idea
00:20:39of the speed
00:20:39differential
00:20:40between
00:20:41petrol
00:20:43powered
00:20:44LMP1 car
00:20:45and a GTE
00:20:46pro class car
00:20:49as they flash by
00:20:51I sure do like
00:20:53the look of that
00:20:53Ford GT
00:20:54with the history
00:20:55here at Le Mans
00:20:56it just
00:20:57it works
00:20:58the Maytech Fords
00:20:59that ran in GT1
00:21:00last year
00:21:01were absolutely
00:21:02beautiful cars
00:21:03as well
00:21:03and you go back
00:21:04to the history
00:21:05of this great event
00:21:06and it just seems
00:21:07that that body
00:21:08style
00:21:09that Ford GT
00:21:10modeled off
00:21:12of the Ford GT
00:21:16that ran
00:21:16back in the day
00:21:18the GT40
00:21:19just an impressive
00:21:21beautiful car
00:21:22I love to see
00:21:25Ford come back
00:21:25I know they're not
00:21:26producing that car
00:21:27currently but there's
00:21:27been a lot of talk
00:21:28that they may be doing
00:21:29a new design of that
00:21:30car and it would be
00:21:32perfect to come back
00:21:32here I mean the retro
00:21:33look of that car
00:21:34coming back here
00:21:35would be massive
00:21:36that's what's selling
00:21:37nowadays is retro
00:21:38everything
00:21:39it's kind of funny
00:21:41the older we get
00:21:41the older we get
00:21:43the more we like
00:21:44the retro look
00:21:44why is that
00:21:45well what work
00:21:46I mean all these
00:21:48funny little cars
00:21:49they made
00:21:49didn't didn't do
00:21:50anything
00:21:50Scott do you want
00:21:51them to bring
00:21:51back a mirror
00:21:52I know
00:21:53thank you not so much
00:21:58thank you not so much
00:21:59never really hit well
00:22:01here in the states
00:22:02might have done good
00:22:03in Europe but certainly
00:22:04I can tell you that
00:22:05the car I did drive
00:22:06was incredibly fast
00:22:07and fun
00:22:08not that I had a street
00:22:11car like it but the
00:22:12race car was pretty
00:22:13impressive
00:22:13I think anything that
00:22:15came out of that
00:22:16stable was pretty fast
00:22:17both you and Dorsey
00:22:18know that
00:22:18Jack's pretty hardcore
00:22:20yeah he hated that
00:22:22little four-cylinder
00:22:22turbo though
00:22:23that's the way
00:22:24brought in Lee
00:22:24White and here we
00:22:25go our leaders in
00:22:27see the red mirrors
00:22:29there signifying that
00:22:30that is the nine
00:22:31Peugeot Simon Pagino
00:22:32behind the wheel
00:22:33Andrew Marriott will
00:22:34it be Sebastian
00:22:35Mordet climbing
00:22:36behind the wheel
00:22:37it most certainly
00:22:41will I can see his
00:22:43blue and yellow
00:22:44helmet hovering
00:22:45Pagino was already
00:22:47out going to the
00:22:49back of the garage
00:22:50and now a lot of
00:22:52pressure on the
00:22:54shoulders of the
00:22:55man who was so
00:22:56successful of course
00:22:56in that champ car
00:22:58over the years
00:22:59Sebastian Bordet
00:23:00the man for
00:23:01Le Mans
00:23:02his father's raced
00:23:04here as well
00:23:05might remember him
00:23:06in the last time we
00:23:07ever saw one of
00:23:08those big thundering
00:23:09painlesses
00:23:10it was the father
00:23:11of the man who
00:23:13now sits at the
00:23:14wheel of this number
00:23:15nine car who drove
00:23:17it
00:23:17the door is shut
00:23:19the drinks bottle
00:23:20has been changed
00:23:21they're going through
00:23:22the tire changing
00:23:23sequence now
00:23:24they can use two
00:23:27guns of course but
00:23:28not at the same time
00:23:29so there's another gun
00:23:31stationed at the back
00:23:32and that is the end of
00:23:34the stop
00:23:35the car accelerates
00:23:36away and now
00:23:37probably a double
00:23:38stint maybe even a
00:23:40triple from
00:23:40Sebastian Bordet
00:23:42and that can make
00:23:43the difference between
00:23:44victory or second
00:23:45place
00:23:46and the lead goes
00:23:47back to Benoit
00:23:47Trillier in the Audi
00:23:49so he'll take back
00:23:50over the point you
00:23:51know for Bordet
00:23:52his success and what
00:23:53he is known for is
00:23:54his four IndyCar
00:23:55or Champ Car
00:23:56Championships
00:23:56four years in a row
00:23:58and disappointment
00:24:00in his Formula 1 career
00:24:01you know he tried it
00:24:02and so many people
00:24:03thought he would be
00:24:04successful and yet
00:24:05he struggled
00:24:06now the 8 on pit road
00:24:09driver change happening
00:24:10there as well
00:24:11on schedule as usual
00:24:1512 laps
00:24:16and they're in
00:24:18Stefan Serrazin
00:24:20climbs out of the 8
00:24:22meanwhile
00:24:23on the racetrack
00:24:26has taken over the
00:24:27point and Bordet
00:24:28will be giving chase
00:24:29you talk about the
00:24:30disappointment in Bordet's
00:24:31Formula 1 career
00:24:32you know I talked to him
00:24:35at Sebring last year
00:24:36and he was glad to be
00:24:38out of that Formula 1
00:24:39circus we talked about
00:24:40that a little bit
00:24:41earlier back in Champ
00:24:43Car in the IndyCar
00:24:43series as it is known
00:24:45now this year with Dale
00:24:47Coyne doing some races
00:24:48with them trying to help
00:24:49that team and trying to
00:24:51get back into open wheel
00:24:52racing which I think is
00:24:55one of his true loves
00:24:55talked to a lot of guys
00:24:57as you go to Formula 1
00:24:58and then come back
00:25:00and not many have
00:25:02good things to say
00:25:02now back on track
00:25:07another Peugeot
00:25:08heads back out
00:25:09but right now
00:25:09it is Peugeot
00:25:11against Audi
00:25:12the only two cars
00:25:13on the lead lap
00:25:14right now
00:25:15been a while
00:25:15Jullier
00:25:15Sebastian Bordet
00:25:17four hours and 47 minutes
00:25:20left to go here from Le Mans
00:25:22it is far from over
00:25:23anything can happen
00:25:24you've seen it so far
00:25:26we'll see more
00:25:27and thanks Krista
00:25:38I've got to say guys
00:25:39she looks a lot better
00:25:40than we do right now
00:25:41at this time of day
00:25:43after the coverage
00:25:45that we've had
00:25:45some what
00:25:47about 20 hours worth
00:25:49at this point in time
00:25:50and Krista looks nice
00:25:51and fresh
00:25:52and quite honestly
00:25:54Dorsey you don't
00:25:55I don't know how to say
00:25:56that other than
00:25:56no not so much
00:25:57it's not a fair world
00:25:59I think
00:25:59is my mic working again
00:26:01and I don't hear
00:26:01no you sound great
00:26:03oh okay
00:26:03my ears not working
00:26:05you don't look real good
00:26:05but you sound good
00:26:06yeah
00:26:06I've gone deaf
00:26:08that's what it is
00:26:09right now
00:26:11the number nine
00:26:12Sebastian Bordet
00:26:1358 seconds behind
00:26:16Benoit Trillier
00:26:17and once again
00:26:19Trillier really setting
00:26:21the pace
00:26:21about eight tenths
00:26:22of a second faster
00:26:23well we went to break
00:26:24last lap
00:26:25he was slamming
00:26:26across the curves
00:26:27like it was nobody's business
00:26:28he has no problem
00:26:29driving over everything
00:26:30it'd be interesting
00:26:31you know
00:26:31there's going to be
00:26:32a lot of strategy
00:26:33play out these last
00:26:34four and a half hours
00:26:35four hours and 40 minutes
00:26:36to be exact
00:26:37we've got the
00:26:38little different
00:26:38fuel strategies going on
00:26:40the Peugeots are able
00:26:41to go another lap
00:26:43solid lap
00:26:45and that's kind of
00:26:46stretching them out
00:26:47so there's a good chance
00:26:48that they will have
00:26:49to make one less stop
00:26:50in the closing stages
00:26:52of this
00:26:52of this 24 hours
00:26:53but they're going to
00:26:54have to figure out a way
00:26:55to get Montagny
00:26:56back on the lead lap
00:26:57otherwise
00:26:57it is truly
00:26:59one against one
00:27:00mono against mono
00:27:01the two against the nine
00:27:02because with the problem
00:27:04that Vert's had
00:27:05Davidson now
00:27:06being shown
00:27:07four laps
00:27:08in arrears
00:27:09of the leaders
00:27:10and Montagny
00:27:11one lap behind
00:27:12remember Sarazen
00:27:12not able to get
00:27:13his lap back
00:27:14in fact
00:27:15it was Trillier
00:27:15who took it back
00:27:16from him
00:27:17he had actually
00:27:17gotten it at one
00:27:18point in time
00:27:19and then that daring
00:27:20move by Trillier
00:27:21to get it back
00:27:22and it has stayed
00:27:22that way ever since
00:27:23so
00:27:23and their penalty
00:27:24yeah and the penalty
00:27:25so only two cars
00:27:27on the lead lap
00:27:28one Audi
00:27:29one Peugeot
00:27:30that's still a long
00:27:32way to go
00:27:32anything can happen
00:27:33obviously
00:27:34but you can see
00:27:35the I mean
00:27:35when you get down
00:27:36inside that six hour
00:27:37mark an hour down
00:27:38inside that four and a
00:27:40half hour mark
00:27:40just over the four and
00:27:41a half mile mark
00:27:42you're seeing the end
00:27:43of the race
00:27:43the focus becomes
00:27:44more clear
00:27:44very clear
00:27:45and you are realizing
00:27:47what you need to do
00:27:48the engineers are going
00:27:49to work looking at
00:27:50strategy
00:27:51looking at the cars
00:27:52where their strengths
00:27:53are what they need to
00:27:53do
00:27:54even from the
00:27:55standpoint is
00:27:55you know
00:27:56you'll be starting
00:27:57throwing everything at
00:27:58it you might do a
00:27:58little bit of wicker
00:27:59change
00:27:59you might do some
00:28:00bodywork change
00:28:01if you feel like
00:28:01you need you know
00:28:02less drag or more
00:28:04downforce
00:28:04you're looking at
00:28:05tire compounds
00:28:06you know
00:28:07what do you need to
00:28:07do
00:28:07do you three
00:28:08stent them
00:28:09do you four stent
00:28:09them
00:28:09are you looking
00:28:10for pure speed
00:28:11there's a lot of
00:28:12issues that are
00:28:12going to play out
00:28:13here in the next
00:28:14four hours and
00:28:1439 minutes
00:28:15Nicholas Prost
00:28:17in the rebellion
00:28:18the Toyota powered
00:28:19Lola heads back
00:28:20out on track
00:28:21he was just in
00:28:22once again
00:28:24that team doing
00:28:24a great job
00:28:25and great to see
00:28:26Toyota back
00:28:27in sports cars
00:28:29in prototype
00:28:29racing
00:28:30that team doing
00:28:31a great job
00:28:32with both the 12
00:28:32and the 13
00:28:33problems for the 13
00:28:36but they had a great
00:28:37battle going earlier
00:28:38remember it was the
00:28:39Cascarolo battling
00:28:41with the two rebellion
00:28:42cars
00:28:4213 has dropped
00:28:44by the wayside
00:28:45Brion had his
00:28:46problems earlier
00:28:47but right now
00:28:48close to the 12
00:28:49that car was withdrawn
00:28:51after a pretty good
00:28:52crash
00:28:52another tire down
00:28:53another time
00:28:54right rear
00:28:54and this is the 58
00:28:56how many times
00:28:57have we seen
00:28:58this car
00:28:59with problems
00:28:59today
00:29:00obviously
00:29:00they were involved
00:29:01with Alan McNish
00:29:02right at the very
00:29:03beginning
00:29:03there goes the carcass
00:29:04it's gone now
00:29:05so it won't do
00:29:05body
00:29:06another one
00:29:0710
00:29:07I think
00:29:09the world is showing
00:29:11some tire issues
00:29:12backing this up
00:29:13yeah
00:29:13because there's
00:29:14the problem
00:29:14that Farnbacher
00:29:15had earlier
00:29:16he scared me
00:29:18they don't tell us
00:29:21this stuff
00:29:21is coming
00:29:22so all of a sudden
00:29:23you kind of go
00:29:23oh my goodness
00:29:24tire issues have
00:29:25certainly been a huge issue here
00:29:32as we've seen just in the recap right there
00:29:35and I know that Dorsey you said in a minute ago
00:29:38we've talked about it
00:29:39the rocks on the racetrack
00:29:40but I'd almost like to bring some home from the fans
00:29:43who don't have a chance to come over here
00:29:44and give people an idea
00:29:47just how sharp they are
00:29:48is that the JMW Ferrari
00:29:51and that pulled off
00:29:53that is not
00:29:54I think that's a 66 car
00:29:58this is a mechanical issue
00:30:00the driver pulled off
00:30:01should have thrown it in neutral
00:30:04and worked the way back to
00:30:05yep indeed it is the 66
00:30:09he probably just got the starter going
00:30:11yeah
00:30:11he's got it in gear
00:30:13and he's running on the starter
00:30:14I think he's got dead engine
00:30:15Xavier Masson behind the wheel right now
00:30:18no relation to Sasha Masson
00:30:20the Porsche driver
00:30:21that we're so familiar with
00:30:23and there is another
00:30:25I saw Houston Scott
00:30:27shake your head
00:30:28another corner worker
00:30:29running across the racetrack
00:30:30you will not see that
00:30:32in the United States
00:30:33guaranteed
00:30:34but Masson with a problem there
00:30:36running further back
00:30:37in GTE Pro category
00:30:39they had some other problems earlier on
00:30:40get across the track
00:30:41on the starter mode
00:30:42oh you cannot do that
00:30:43please tell me
00:30:44that's not going to happen
00:30:45I hope not
00:30:45Masson sharing that car
00:30:46with Rob Bell and Tim Sugden
00:30:48as I said
00:30:49they had some problems earlier
00:30:51he's right at pit in
00:30:52on the wrong side of the racer
00:30:54you've got to be kidding me
00:30:56oh my gosh
00:30:56I wonder if it's out of fuel
00:30:59probably not though
00:31:01because he would have coasted it in
00:31:03the exit of the Porsche curves
00:31:05we saw the crash
00:31:07that Magnussen had there
00:31:08with Felbermeyer Sr
00:31:09the speed with which
00:31:11they came through
00:31:11the prototypes
00:31:12even faster
00:31:13at the exit of that corner
00:31:14and try to get a car
00:31:16to limp across
00:31:16on a starter motor there
00:31:18if indeed
00:31:18that's what they're trying to do
00:31:20that's what they're doing
00:31:20to me is just inexcusable
00:31:22it is endurance racing
00:31:25yeah but you don't endanger
00:31:27your life
00:31:28and other people's as well
00:31:29I'd hate to come along
00:31:31and find somebody
00:31:32running along
00:31:32on the starter motor
00:31:33the 16 in
00:31:38there's Andre Loiter
00:31:41it's exciting
00:31:44yeah
00:31:44a little yawn
00:31:45just going to sit back
00:31:46and relax
00:31:47conserving energy
00:31:48that's right
00:31:49conserving energy
00:31:4916
00:31:52Julian Juice behind the wheel
00:31:54he'll stay behind the wheel
00:31:55of the Pescarola
00:31:56and look at this car
00:31:58nice and clean
00:31:59not a mark on it
00:32:00they've done a good job
00:32:01of making sure
00:32:02that they didn't want a foul
00:32:03that's what they've done
00:32:05a little work to do
00:32:08but by and large
00:32:09they've had a great run
00:32:10currently fifth
00:32:12he made it
00:32:15look at that
00:32:15look at that
00:32:16but he's still got a long way
00:32:18to go to get to the pit end
00:32:20I mean that's pit end
00:32:20but I mean he's still
00:32:22very much in a target zone
00:32:23sitting there
00:32:24and when you've got leaders
00:32:25that may need to come to the pits
00:32:26that is not a wide pit lane
00:32:28especially when you get
00:32:29to that first chicane
00:32:31I just
00:32:32and the craziness continues
00:32:34I don't understand it
00:32:36I know
00:32:36several chief stewards
00:32:38back in the states
00:32:40who would not be pleased
00:32:41by that performance
00:32:43right there
00:32:43that is for sure
00:32:44I'd say we've got about
00:32:45another four and a half hours
00:32:46of craziness
00:32:47before this is over
00:32:4830 cars still
00:32:49under power here
00:32:51at Le Mans
00:32:52take a look
00:32:53at some of the graphics
00:32:54the two that stand out
00:32:56obviously the number one
00:32:57and the number three Audi
00:32:58who went out
00:32:59in spectacular fashion
00:33:01the 66 tries to get back
00:33:04to pit road
00:33:04Minouin Trillier
00:33:05the Audi team
00:33:06tries to hold on
00:33:07for a victory
00:33:08four and a half hours
00:33:09still to go
00:33:10well just a short while ago
00:33:15Alexander Virch
00:33:16behind the wheel
00:33:17of the number seven Peugeot
00:33:18problem in Indianapolis
00:33:20and pretty hard contact
00:33:22with the barrier
00:33:23on drivers right
00:33:24managed to get the car
00:33:25back to the pits
00:33:26didn't get it turned in
00:33:28gets up on the dirty line
00:33:29bam
00:33:30big impact there
00:33:32not a mistake
00:33:32you see very often
00:33:33Virch out of the car
00:33:34Davidson Inn
00:33:35and Andrew Marriott
00:33:37had a chance to talk
00:33:38with Alexander Virch
00:33:39Andrew
00:33:40Alex
00:33:41pushing hard
00:33:42and caught out
00:33:42by the gravel
00:33:43no
00:33:45I got caught out
00:33:46missing talent
00:33:47on the entry
00:33:48ran out of talent
00:33:50my first driving mistake
00:33:53since 2008
00:33:54which I'm not happy about
00:33:56it's not like you Alex
00:33:57yeah exactly
00:33:59I mean at one point
00:34:00you do these mistakes
00:34:01but
00:34:02I'm really angry
00:34:04with myself
00:34:04again since 2008
00:34:06not one time
00:34:06put the car wrong
00:34:08and then at this
00:34:09important stage
00:34:10of the race
00:34:11it happened
00:34:11so I apologize
00:34:12to the team
00:34:13and my teammates
00:34:14but we you know
00:34:15it's winner spin
00:34:16do you think it was
00:34:17down to tiredness
00:34:18no definitely not
00:34:20I knew what I was doing
00:34:22I was just pushing it
00:34:23I missed the entry
00:34:23by 50 centimeters
00:34:24not so much
00:34:26and there was quite a bit
00:34:27of dirt next to the line
00:34:28and then I lost it
00:34:29so really a little
00:34:31misjudgment
00:34:31but I was on purpose
00:34:33pushing it
00:34:34so c'est la vie
00:34:35thanks for your honesty
00:34:36thanks for his honesty
00:34:38welcome back
00:34:39Calvin Fish
00:34:40he's had a little beauty
00:34:41nap
00:34:41Dorsey Schrader
00:34:42still here
00:34:43Brian Till
00:34:43looking in the mirror
00:34:44I think
00:34:45they need him
00:34:45a bit more
00:34:47yeah they've been
00:34:47accusing me of that
00:34:48man incredible honesty
00:34:50from Alexander Virgs
00:34:51and that's what we've
00:34:52come to expect
00:34:53from him
00:34:53and we don't expect
00:34:55those mistakes
00:34:56he doesn't expect
00:34:57them from himself
00:34:57but it's nice
00:34:58that he stands up
00:34:59and fesses up
00:35:01when he does
00:35:02make those mistakes
00:35:03most guys would be
00:35:04happy with not making
00:35:04mistakes since 2008
00:35:06absolutely
00:35:07he's a really cool guy
00:35:08we've really got to know
00:35:09well over the last
00:35:10three years
00:35:11and super bloke
00:35:13one of the best
00:35:14and as we've seen today
00:35:15some of the best
00:35:16do make errors
00:35:17over the course of 24 hours
00:35:19one of the things
00:35:20that I was particularly
00:35:21good at
00:35:21was running out of talent
00:35:22in the middle of the corner
00:35:23which is probably
00:35:25exactly
00:35:26I knew it was coming
00:35:27so I had to defend myself
00:35:29by a little self-deprecating humor
00:35:31as you see the number two
00:35:33Benoit Trillier
00:35:34who has been behind
00:35:35the wheel of the Audi
00:35:37for quite a while now
00:35:38and there we go again
00:35:39I mean he is willing
00:35:41to use every bit of asphalt
00:35:43and more inside outside
00:35:44it doesn't matter
00:35:45Trillier on a mission
00:35:48about a minute in hand
00:35:49right now over
00:35:50Bordet
00:35:52he's been launching
00:35:53off curbs
00:35:53I mean he did get big air
00:35:54and that's what he really needs
00:35:56Brian
00:35:56if you think about it
00:35:57one extra trip down pit lane
00:35:59is going to cost you
00:36:00about a minute
00:36:00a minute plus
00:36:01so that's the margin
00:36:02he really needs
00:36:03if Peugeot are able to do it
00:36:05on one less stop
00:36:07and if they are stretching
00:36:07their mileage
00:36:08one extra lap
00:36:09every run
00:36:10that's what it's going to be
00:36:11it'll be one extra stop
00:36:13for Audi
00:36:14to get to the checkered flag
00:36:16here this afternoon
00:36:16and all their cars
00:36:18are doing 12 laps now
00:36:19all the Peugeots
00:36:20and of course the Audi
00:36:21he's still at 11
00:36:23saw the 49
00:36:24the Oak Racing
00:36:25Oak Pescarolo
00:36:27with the Judd BMW
00:36:28being pushed into the garage
00:36:29that's the fourth place car
00:36:30in the LMP2 category
00:36:32being dribbling
00:36:33by Nicholas de Creme
00:36:34right now
00:36:35so a problem
00:36:36obviously there at Oak
00:36:37and they'll push that car
00:36:39back into the garage
00:36:40see if they can get
00:36:41some work done on it
00:36:42it's still the Zytec
00:36:43of Kareem Oje
00:36:44the Greaves Racing
00:36:46entry
00:36:46the number 41
00:36:47who leads in the LMP2 category
00:36:49so right now
00:36:51the Oak Racing
00:36:52looking to try to
00:36:53maintain a spot
00:36:54and get a shot
00:36:55at a podium finish
00:36:57but going into the garage
00:36:59with four and a half hours
00:37:01to go
00:37:01is not the way
00:37:02to find a step
00:37:03on the podium
00:37:04on board
00:37:08that's the 41
00:37:11right there the Zytec
00:37:13with the Nissan
00:37:14power plant in it
00:37:15indeed it is
00:37:16as Kareem Oje heads down
00:37:18through the Porsche curves
00:37:19and a lot of people said
00:37:21the Nissan was the power plant
00:37:23to have in LMP2
00:37:25and right now
00:37:26holding down the top two spots
00:37:28both the 26 and the 41
00:37:31have that Nissan power plant
00:37:33and then in third
00:37:34it's the level five entry
00:37:37Scott Tucker and his team
00:37:39Christophe Bouchoud
00:37:40Joual Barbosa
00:37:42holding on to third
00:37:43and that's quite a feat
00:37:46with HPD power plant
00:37:48that they really felt
00:37:48was down on power
00:37:49and that the long straights
00:37:51here at Le Mans
00:37:52would punish them
00:37:53but they are doing a good job
00:37:54using good strategy
00:37:55staying calm
00:37:56hitting their marks
00:37:57staying out of trouble
00:37:58to maintain a spot
00:38:00in the top three
00:38:01guys this should be
00:38:02a pit stop lap
00:38:03for the Audi
00:38:04I think you do one more
00:38:06this would be ten laps here
00:38:09onto the front straight away
00:38:11looking back on 272
00:38:13oh yeah
00:38:14you're right
00:38:15we should be one more
00:38:15team set up ready for him
00:38:17the next time by
00:38:18we expect Andre Lauderer
00:38:19to take over
00:38:21and look at this
00:38:22there is the 51
00:38:23and there is
00:38:25Antonio Garcia
00:38:27and I believe the 51
00:38:28trying to put a lap
00:38:30right now
00:38:30on that 73 Corvette
00:38:33and that cannot be a two lap
00:38:35he's already one lap up
00:38:37no actually once it's side
00:38:39because you're right
00:38:39that would put it a lap down
00:38:40just just right there
00:38:42on the tail end of it
00:38:43it's been this way
00:38:44for about the last hour
00:38:45about eight seconds in hand
00:38:47is what Tommy Milner had had
00:38:49before they made the last stop
00:38:50and you don't want to see
00:38:52that the leader right there
00:38:54behind you
00:38:54you're in second place
00:38:55you need to stay close
00:38:56Visekela now breathing down
00:38:59the back of that Corvette
00:39:01if you can get in front of him
00:39:02it will be a lap down for sure
00:39:04and there's the flying lizard
00:39:05Porsche the outside the 80
00:39:07having its problems
00:39:08but back on track
00:39:08Lucas Lohr behind the wheel
00:39:10right now
00:39:11Garcia took on fresh tires
00:39:13so that Corvette should be
00:39:15at full potential
00:39:16great to see the diversity
00:39:19in the GTE pro category as well
00:39:22Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari
00:39:23Porsche are really struggling
00:39:25for speed a bit here
00:39:27throwing the Ford GT
00:39:28the Lotus Evora coming along
00:39:30the BMWs as well
00:39:32the BMWs showing excellent pace
00:39:34here just not particularly good luck
00:39:37although the 56 has worked its way
00:39:39back up into the third position
00:39:41so a podium in hand right now
00:39:42but still a long way to go
00:39:44as I said the diversity
00:39:45of my manufacturer is great to see
00:39:47right now in the GTE category
00:39:49you see Danny Binks on the radio
00:39:51really acting as a spotter
00:39:53using the monitors
00:39:54here in place at Lamar
00:39:56to just talk him through
00:39:57talking through traffic
00:39:58tell him where the 51 car is
00:40:01they realize the importance
00:40:03to have any chance here
00:40:04they've got to keep him
00:40:05on that lead lap
00:40:06Tony's doing a good job
00:40:07that's a ring guy's duty
00:40:09keep your driver up
00:40:11man keep that adrenaline flowing
00:40:12when that crew chief
00:40:13is talking to you
00:40:13Dorsey does it really do
00:40:15the trick
00:40:15does it help you
00:40:16does it give you that
00:40:17little bit of extra fire
00:40:18that you need
00:40:19yeah it does
00:40:19it really does
00:40:20I mean particularly
00:40:20if you're a little bit
00:40:21on the tired side or whatever
00:40:22to have somebody like
00:40:23Danny Binks telling you
00:40:23you're doing good
00:40:24go for it
00:40:25you know you
00:40:25you know you got to
00:40:27stay in front of the
00:40:28you know the Ferrari
00:40:29and not go down a lap
00:40:31but that little encouragement
00:40:32really does
00:40:32because there's somebody
00:40:34behind you
00:40:34it seems to make a difference
00:40:35when you see the passion
00:40:37that's put into
00:40:37the effort here at Lamar
00:40:39by all of the team members
00:40:40but when you have a team leader
00:40:42like Danny Binks
00:40:43I mean it really makes you
00:40:44dig deep
00:40:44and the other aspect
00:40:46of this type of racing
00:40:47when you've got teammates
00:40:48is you're not doing it
00:40:49just for yourself
00:40:50you make a mistake
00:40:51it's just not your mistake
00:40:52there's a real responsibility
00:40:54and that runs deep
00:40:56when you're competing
00:40:57in one of these big events
00:40:58I was about to say
00:40:58he'll praise you
00:40:59but if you do something wrong
00:41:00he will scold you too
00:41:01no question about that
00:41:03well and we've seen mistakes
00:41:04made on both sides
00:41:06the Peugeot with the penalty
00:41:07for the crewman
00:41:08with the visor up
00:41:09that penalty being served
00:41:10by the driver
00:41:11we saw Alexander Virts
00:41:13the driver
00:41:13make the mistake
00:41:15create the penalty
00:41:15for his team
00:41:16and as we talked about it
00:41:18when both of those
00:41:19incidents happened
00:41:19it is very much
00:41:21a team sport
00:41:21sometimes that is forgotten
00:41:23but it takes all the people
00:41:24behind the scenes
00:41:25to make the cars go out
00:41:27on the racetrack
00:41:28and you've got to accept
00:41:30the mistakes
00:41:30that each of those
00:41:32team members makes
00:41:3311 lap run
00:41:34once again
00:41:35for the two machine
00:41:36so this is the number
00:41:38and Peugeot
00:41:39been hitting 12
00:41:40all day long
00:41:41absolutely
00:41:42and I tell you what
00:41:45the execution
00:41:46by this number two car
00:41:47has been brilliant
00:41:49here today
00:41:49by the drivers
00:41:50they've run
00:41:51at a really really hard
00:41:52pace
00:41:52all three of them
00:41:53there's no weak link
00:41:54in that team
00:41:55which is great
00:41:56because there's no
00:41:56compromise in terms
00:41:57of the strategy
00:41:58of who you put in
00:41:59when
00:41:59they can all
00:42:00get the job done
00:42:01he was relegate to his
00:42:04marks
00:42:04and Jamie is there
00:42:05he was perfect
00:42:10on his marks
00:42:10and guys
00:42:11he's also going to
00:42:12stay in the car
00:42:13he's getting a fresh
00:42:14drink bottle
00:42:14but he is going to
00:42:15stay behind the wheel
00:42:16of this Audi
00:42:17we did think that
00:42:18Andre Laudera was going
00:42:19to get in
00:42:19he was awakened
00:42:20from his nap
00:42:20but not going to get
00:42:22in this time by
00:42:23they do have a fresh
00:42:24set of tires out
00:42:24but again
00:42:25looks like no urgency
00:42:27to get ready
00:42:28to put those on
00:42:28we're going to have
00:42:29to wait and see
00:42:30until the fuel's complete
00:42:31no other work
00:42:31can be done
00:42:32other than cleaning
00:42:33that windscreen
00:42:33but Brad Keller
00:42:34down on his knees
00:42:35giving the signal
00:42:36no tires again
00:42:37for the R18
00:42:38boy I tell you what
00:42:40that is a heroic
00:42:41effort right there
00:42:42maybe they have
00:42:43a seatbelt problem
00:42:44they won't come on
00:42:44last or something
00:42:46I think this is
00:42:47a quadruple stint
00:42:48yeah
00:42:48they talk about
00:42:49going up to five
00:42:50I mean the stints
00:42:51are slightly shorter
00:42:52this year
00:42:52so there has been
00:42:53talk about
00:42:53going up to five
00:42:54and then the driver
00:42:55time
00:42:55maximum four hours
00:42:57in a six hour period
00:42:58really comes into play
00:42:59which you have to
00:43:00keep your finger on
00:43:00but this is great stuff
00:43:02I mean not changing
00:43:03tires
00:43:04it just saves you
00:43:04that time
00:43:05of course fueling
00:43:06has to be done
00:43:07and completed
00:43:08before the tire change
00:43:09so you're just
00:43:09saving time
00:43:10on pit lane
00:43:10and that is Bourdais
00:43:11right there
00:43:12in front of Trillier
00:43:13as he heads back
00:43:14on track
00:43:15and while we talk
00:43:16about the cars
00:43:16out on track
00:43:17let's go back
00:43:18to the pits
00:43:18with Jamie
00:43:19Brad Keller
00:43:23a sign of relief
00:43:24on your face
00:43:25this crew
00:43:25these drivers
00:43:26flawless so far
00:43:28are you surprised
00:43:28at the amount
00:43:29of pressure
00:43:29you're able
00:43:30to put on
00:43:30these Michelin tires
00:43:31four cents
00:43:32no no
00:43:33we've done a lot
00:43:34of tests
00:43:34we've done a lot
00:43:36of 30 hour tests
00:43:37and so forth
00:43:37and we've pushed
00:43:38real hard
00:43:39before
00:43:39but it's been
00:43:40a heck of a race
00:43:41we've been under
00:43:42a lot of pressure
00:43:43for a long time
00:43:44so we've got
00:43:45a long way to go
00:43:45you have kept
00:43:47your driver
00:43:48behind the wheel
00:43:50for four cents
00:43:51now I know
00:43:51there's a lot
00:43:52of pressure
00:43:52on this team
00:43:53what is the strategy
00:43:53moving forward
00:43:54in the closing stages
00:43:55of the race
00:43:56well both teams
00:43:57are trying to do
00:43:58what they can do
00:43:59to minimize
00:44:00the time in the pit
00:44:01we're having
00:44:01real good tire wear
00:44:03cars real good
00:44:03on long runs
00:44:04and so we're
00:44:06we're just trying
00:44:08to adjust our strategy
00:44:09to get the absolute
00:44:10most we can
00:44:10out of our tire time
00:44:11all right thank you
00:44:13I know you need to
00:44:13get back to the box
00:44:14I think I was going
00:44:16to give him a kiss
00:44:16here
00:44:17Brad Kettler
00:44:20such a good guy
00:44:21so open
00:44:21so honest
00:44:22so approachable
00:44:24and so dedicated
00:44:25to racing
00:44:26and to this Audi team
00:44:28and right now
00:44:29Sebastian Bourdais
00:44:30has taken over the lead
00:44:31from Benoit Trillier
00:44:32but at the line
00:44:33the last time
00:44:33just a second and a half
00:44:34Trillier
00:44:35absolutely spectacular
00:44:37behind the wheel
00:44:38of this R18
00:44:40the battle
00:44:40we knew it was
00:44:41going to be a good one
00:44:42and when we saw
00:44:43two Audi's drop out early
00:44:44we thought maybe
00:44:46the battle was over
00:44:47far from it
00:44:48it continues the rage
00:44:49from here at Le Mans
00:44:50but I
00:44:50well while you catch
00:44:59all the action
00:45:00from right here
00:45:01at Le Mans
00:45:01you can also check
00:45:02out all the extras
00:45:03at speed.com
00:45:04including video highlights
00:45:05driver blogs
00:45:06photo galleries
00:45:07notebooks
00:45:07feature stories
00:45:08and more
00:45:09so go to the Le Mans
00:45:10section on speed.com
00:45:12get even more information
00:45:14we talked a little earlier
00:45:15about back timing
00:45:18and when do you start
00:45:19looking at the end
00:45:20of the race
00:45:20well it's time
00:45:21just over four hours
00:45:23to go
00:45:23Calvin Fish is back
00:45:24he is the master
00:45:26of strategy
00:45:27he's pulled out
00:45:28his little calculator
00:45:29begun to do the math
00:45:31Cal
00:45:31what do you figure
00:45:32well Bourdais
00:45:33is going to be hitting
00:45:34pit lane here
00:45:34in another couple of laps
00:45:36and I think at that point
00:45:37he'll need just under
00:45:38six stints to go
00:45:39which will be five more
00:45:40stops
00:45:41and after the two cars
00:45:43last stop
00:45:43they need just under
00:45:44seven stints
00:45:45so it'll be six more
00:45:46stops
00:45:46so once we get this
00:45:48last cycle here
00:45:48so Bourdais
00:45:49made that pit stop
00:45:50Trullier should retain
00:45:53the lead
00:45:53or retake the lead
00:45:55should I say
00:45:55and then the Audi
00:45:57will need one more
00:45:59stop compared to
00:46:00Bourdais
00:46:00now the delta
00:46:01between
00:46:01coming down pit lane
00:46:03and staying on the
00:46:03racetrack
00:46:04is about 35 to 37
00:46:05seconds
00:46:06you're going to need
00:46:0630 seconds of fuel
00:46:08so you need about
00:46:09a 65 second lead
00:46:10so we'll go back
00:46:13over this here
00:46:13in about 10 minutes
00:46:14and probably be able
00:46:15to give you a more
00:46:16accurate read
00:46:17and that's why
00:46:17they've left Trullier
00:46:18in this long
00:46:19is because
00:46:19they're maximizing
00:46:21or minimizing
00:46:22the time they're in
00:46:22the pits
00:46:23and trying to gain
00:46:24that 65 plus seconds
00:46:26needed
00:46:26for that one extra
00:46:27pit stop
00:46:28he's comfortable
00:46:28he's fast in the car
00:46:30he's not making
00:46:31any mistakes
00:46:32he's getting the job
00:46:33done that you need
00:46:34to have done
00:46:35leave him in
00:46:36yeah he's not fatigued
00:46:37and the tires
00:46:39are well within
00:46:40their limit
00:46:41and he has Bourdais
00:46:41right in front
00:46:42three and a half
00:46:43second lead
00:46:43Bourdais had
00:46:44over Trullier
00:46:45at the line
00:46:45the last time by
00:46:47so a problem
00:46:48for the 35
00:46:49that is the oak
00:46:50racing entry
00:46:51of DeRocca
00:46:51Lafargue
00:46:52and Barlesi
00:46:53that might be
00:46:54a cut down tire
00:46:55too
00:46:55that car's been
00:46:56limping along
00:46:57there for a while
00:46:57and there is
00:46:59Bourdais
00:47:00the red mirrors
00:47:01on the nine
00:47:02and there is
00:47:03Trullier
00:47:04so really trying
00:47:07to hold on
00:47:07as much as he can
00:47:08and he'll stay close
00:47:09and that stop
00:47:11if he stays that close
00:47:12will be that minute
00:47:13that we talked about
00:47:1435 second run down
00:47:15pit lane
00:47:1630 second stop
00:47:17for fuel
00:47:17if they don't do tires
00:47:19or a driver
00:47:21which you would not
00:47:22expect the Peugeot team
00:47:23to do
00:47:23and that then turns
00:47:25into that minute lead
00:47:27if there are no mistakes
00:47:28or no errors
00:47:28but remember
00:47:29there was a penalty
00:47:30earlier on the Peugeot crew
00:47:31for not having a visor down
00:47:33we keep saying
00:47:34it's not over
00:47:34until it's over
00:47:35the mistake
00:47:36can come from the cockpit
00:47:37it can come from the crew
00:47:39but either way
00:47:40it can cost you the race
00:47:41I don't think
00:47:42that mistake
00:47:42will happen again
00:47:43it better not anyway
00:47:44well
00:47:46and also traffic laps
00:47:48remember
00:47:48we saw earlier
00:47:50in this race
00:47:50Zillarder at the time
00:47:51set the fastest lap
00:47:52of the race
00:47:52at a 325
00:47:54his next lap
00:47:55was a 337
00:47:56that was 12 seconds
00:47:57difference between
00:47:58a big traffic lap
00:48:00and a clear lap
00:48:01so those are the moments
00:48:02you don't need
00:48:03you don't need to be making
00:48:04those type of decisions
00:48:05Dorsey
00:48:05because you know
00:48:06you've got to get
00:48:07the hammer down
00:48:07you're trying to get
00:48:08a second per lap
00:48:09on the car
00:48:10that's chasing you
00:48:11and suddenly
00:48:12a whole stint's worth
00:48:13can go away
00:48:14in one lap
00:48:15I mean you gained
00:48:15a second lap
00:48:16over 11 laps
00:48:18and then you can lose
00:48:19that in one go
00:48:19on board with Trillier
00:48:20and when you looked up
00:48:21in front
00:48:22it looked like
00:48:22the two Peugeots
00:48:23or perhaps
00:48:24they were going
00:48:24around a lap car
00:48:25but it looked like
00:48:25the two Peugeots
00:48:26were side by side
00:48:27the first one in line
00:48:28was Anthony Davidson
00:48:29Davidson in the 7 car
00:48:32and then Bourdais
00:48:33and you wonder
00:48:33if perhaps
00:48:34you're going to let
00:48:36Bourdais get in front
00:48:37of Davidson
00:48:37put a little blocking
00:48:39back in between
00:48:40I don't know
00:48:40if that was indeed
00:48:41the case
00:48:41as Trillier goes
00:48:42through Indianapolis
00:48:43and then he'll
00:48:44head up to Arnage
00:48:45a very slow
00:48:46right-hand corner
00:48:47that leads you
00:48:47toward the Persia curves
00:48:48Reinhold Joost
00:48:50looking on
00:48:51I tell you
00:48:51every time
00:48:52one of these
00:48:53Audis hits pit lane
00:48:54he's always
00:48:54in the background
00:48:55with his stopwatch
00:48:56just keeping tabs
00:48:57on how the team
00:48:59performs
00:48:59how it executes
00:49:00and he's won
00:49:01so many of these
00:49:01races here
00:49:02just on that
00:49:03the time in pit lane
00:49:05he believes
00:49:05that is the key
00:49:06to winning
00:49:06here at Le Mans
00:49:08and that is indeed
00:49:08what has happened
00:49:09Bourdais has gotten
00:49:10in front of Davidson
00:49:12as you saw him
00:49:12flash by
00:49:13Pujo with the red
00:49:14mirrors out in front
00:49:16now
00:49:16so perhaps
00:49:18a little blocking
00:49:19back there
00:49:19as you see
00:49:20the lights flashing
00:49:20that was pushed wide
00:49:23that was really
00:49:24in the marbles
00:49:24he has not been
00:49:26concerned at all
00:49:27about making those
00:49:28moves
00:49:29about how many times
00:49:30we said this earlier
00:49:31Dorsey
00:49:31how many times
00:49:33can he do it
00:49:33and get away with it
00:49:34once he's learned
00:49:34that he can do it
00:49:35there
00:49:35but I tell you
00:49:36that was a close one
00:49:37he was really
00:49:37loosened up
00:49:38that time
00:49:39I think he might have
00:49:40got some dirt
00:49:40on the tires
00:49:41there when he went wide
00:49:42got into that next one
00:49:43didn't have the grip
00:49:44but just let
00:49:44he didn't pinch the car
00:49:45and spin
00:49:46do you know what I mean
00:49:46he's got the feel
00:49:47in the car right now
00:49:48you're really into a rhythm
00:49:49at this stage of the race
00:49:50you know where the grip
00:49:52level is
00:49:52and if you feel
00:49:53it's not just biting
00:49:54you just let it go
00:49:55you just let it float
00:49:56outside of your normal
00:49:57racing line
00:49:58and he knows
00:49:59where all the racetrack
00:50:00is at the exit
00:50:00of this corner
00:50:01he's used it
00:50:01multiple times
00:50:02see the wiggle
00:50:03that's what I was
00:50:04talking about
00:50:05that's where it got
00:50:05loose in that dirt
00:50:06you can see it
00:50:07starting to pick
00:50:08the dirt up
00:50:08off the racetrack
00:50:09and throw it out
00:50:10the bat
00:50:10right there
00:50:11it was a great save
00:50:12and that wasn't
00:50:1335 miles an hour
00:50:14worth of wiggle
00:50:15that's huge
00:50:17but like you said
00:50:18Calvin
00:50:18he's fully in control
00:50:20of that car right now
00:50:20he's got the feel
00:50:21of the car
00:50:22he knows exactly
00:50:23what it's like
00:50:23underneath him
00:50:24it's not his first
00:50:24wiggle either
00:50:25three different marks
00:50:27in the GTE
00:50:28pro category there
00:50:30the Corvette
00:50:3173
00:50:32Antonio Garcia
00:50:33behind the wheel
00:50:34and I think he has
00:50:35lost that lap
00:50:36I think Vizickela
00:50:37has gotten around him
00:50:38nope nope
00:50:39Vizickela's back there
00:50:40in the background
00:50:41he's looking at timing
00:50:42and scoring
00:50:42it shows that lap
00:50:43but it's hard to see
00:50:44until it cycles through
00:50:45so Garcia now
00:50:46pulled out a little
00:50:48bit of space
00:50:48and that is good news
00:50:50for the Corvette camp
00:50:51Vizickela
00:50:52the third car
00:50:53back in the background
00:50:55some distance behind
00:50:56the blue Porsche
00:50:57that you see there
00:50:58he's still going to
00:50:58need a caution flag
00:50:59to get this to be
00:51:00in his favor
00:51:01but as long as he can
00:51:02stay on that lead lap
00:51:03yeah
00:51:04it's all he's got to do
00:51:05the problem with
00:51:06the caution here
00:51:06is though again
00:51:07we've talked about it
00:51:07many times here today
00:51:08with three pace cars
00:51:10it's not like you
00:51:10basically eat up
00:51:11three quarters of the lap
00:51:12just by being on that
00:51:13lead lap
00:51:13you're only going to
00:51:14get a third of a lap
00:51:15that's the most you get
00:51:16if you're lucky
00:51:18you might get nothing
00:51:20if you're in the same
00:51:21segment that comes out
00:51:21in front of you
00:51:22then the other guy's
00:51:24right on your tail
00:51:24you gain nothing at all
00:51:26you would have to be
00:51:26you'd have to time it
00:51:27perfectly in the safety car
00:51:28would have to have come
00:51:29out behind those three
00:51:30GTs
00:51:31and in front of Fisichella
00:51:32to gain as you said
00:51:33Calvin that one third
00:51:34of a lap
00:51:35that's what the European
00:51:38drivers find hard to
00:51:40really fathom when they
00:51:41come over and do the
00:51:42Rolex 24 at Daytona
00:51:43the fact that with the
00:51:44caution rules there
00:51:46you can keep getting
00:51:47those laps back
00:51:48you just wait for the
00:51:49leaders to pick you
00:51:49stay out you gain the
00:51:50lap you gain the lap
00:51:51we've seen teams gain
00:51:52multiple laps there this
00:51:54year with those new
00:51:55rules
00:51:55you can't do that at
00:51:56Lamar you've got to
00:51:58really eat it up on the
00:51:59race track you just got
00:51:59to keep chipping away at
00:52:01it and really hope that
00:52:02the other teams have the
00:52:03problems that you had
00:52:04earlier in this race to
00:52:06get back in the game
00:52:07sound of the big V8
00:52:11in the Corvette
00:52:13Garcia
00:52:14Spaniard heads up
00:52:16towards the Porsche
00:52:17curves
00:52:17good stuff we've ridden
00:52:21with the prototypes
00:52:22through the Porsche
00:52:23curves ride with the
00:52:24Corvette
00:52:24car and this is
00:52:26very good but
00:52:26feeling bored a
00:52:35leader should be
00:52:36pitting on this lap
00:52:37man I'll tell you what
00:52:41even with the lack of
00:52:42downforce that a GT car
00:52:44has and it still has some
00:52:45very good aerodynamics to
00:52:46it don't get me wrong but
00:52:47to listen to Antonio
00:52:49Garcia go through there he
00:52:50was firmly in the throttle
00:52:52at least through the first
00:52:53portion of the porsche curves it shows you just how stable these gt cars are at speed the bmw the
00:53:00porsche right behind him hanging tough and once again great to see the different manufacturers
00:53:05in the gte battle i think when you're at this stage of the race door so you're obviously very
00:53:10tired seeing the 22 car have a quick off there doesn't look like any damage you know i think
00:53:17the adrenaline is flowing here we see the leader in but the adrenaline is flowing you're chasing
00:53:21you got the hammer down and i think it gets you through that tired period and this is where
00:53:27trilier needs to have that clean lap to see how much of a gap he can get he needs a little hiccup
00:53:32on the poor on the part of the peugeot team justin
00:53:39yeah i'm not sure that hiccups going to come as i look it's very systematic down here obviously
00:53:44getting visibility for the driver is the number one objective in his pit stop from the point of
00:53:49view other than fuel especially not doing tasks they need to give these guys with that restricted
00:53:53vision through the windscreen as a better chance as they can and they go very clear that is actually
00:53:58in my opinion slightly quicker than we've seen they were right on top of it there's a good energy down
00:54:03here they know what they got to do you know the number nine car they've got a very very fast fox
00:54:08chasing that uh audi rabbit there and uh you know it was really really well put together pit stop
00:54:14and this is not what ben watch earlier needs he's got gt traffic and he has anthony davidson
00:54:20right in front of him it is not what he needs at all he needed a good outlap while the the nine car
00:54:27was on pit road and i don't believe he got one here calvin no he's definitely got a little bit of
00:54:32traffic i mean uh i think davidson's going to be able to run certainly at the pace that he needs but
00:54:37you know he may need to clear him like you said you know when do you start playing the strategy if you
00:54:42just say okay the seven is now out of the mix for the win you're going to be the team player if you
00:54:47can run at a pace where the two car can't get by you but if you can just keep them down at all pace
00:54:53or you can slow them down below the number nine cars pace maybe you can be a factor still for peugeot
00:54:59that's pretty easy to do too i'll be honest about it now frank montagnier in the eight car the eight
00:55:05number or number eight peugeot on pit road as well being serviced and chillier with davidson in
00:55:12front of him he wants either davidson to light it up and go away or he needs to get past him
00:55:18story still to be told from here at le mans the strategy really beginning to play out right now
00:55:23and even though peugeot has only one of their cars on the lead lap they've got two in position
00:55:30to help with the outcome here of the 79th running the 24 hours of le mans audi with only one car left
00:55:38trying to hold on they want to take yet another victory we'll be back to more le mans action
00:55:43right after this stick around
00:55:54right at four hours to go from the circuit de la sarthe the le mans france the 24 hours of le mans the
00:56:0179th running of this great event and from the drop of the green flag and we knew it would be this
00:56:08way it has been audi versus peugeot the four rings versus the lion the new r18 versus the new 908 and
00:56:16when you look at the cars very similar as far as turbo diesel but a very different approach to the
00:56:203.7 liter power plant that's right audi utilizing the v6 and peugeot using the v8 talking to both camps
00:56:27there's uh definite reasons why they went that way we spoke to bruno for mean about the v8 he said
00:56:32well it's a lot more similar to the v12 we are running so it wasn't really a revolutionary engine
00:56:37design we felt comfortable with that you talk to audi they went with a clean sheet of paper they just
00:56:41felt that with the air restrictor has to run through they want to save weight with the v6 and uh
00:56:47certainly both cars are performing pretty similar i think it's really the aero factor as to why they're
00:56:53getting slightly different lap time audi seems to have the pace in terms of having the fastest
00:56:57lap time but the peugeot is definitely quicker down the straightaways i think i just saw moisture
00:57:03on the lens of the camera they had called for some showers a few days ago throughout the night we
00:57:09didn't see those in the last weather report that i had heard was well perhaps late in the afternoon
00:57:15certainly a little bit of moisture on the lens of the camera there i think one of the big changes
00:57:19though this year for the drivers in the audi not just the the coupe but a six-speed gearbox as well and
00:57:26they had been used to a five-speed in the r15 the r15 plus and the r10 as well and that extra gear is
00:57:33something that they had wanted for a long time but i think perhaps this 3.7 liter power plant just a
00:57:39little more suited to a six-speed gearbox certainly no no shortage of torque or horsepower in the uh in
00:57:46the engine previously in the r15 yeah when you spoke to when we spoke to ralph utner early in the week
00:57:51about that he gave us a great walk around the car said why the six speed he said really if you look
00:57:55at it and uh think about it on paper there is no reason for it but the driver's pushed really hard
00:58:01and he said when you get into traffic it can certainly be a factor with a massive torque
00:58:06they believe that that power plant should work well with just the five gears but
00:58:10they've gone with six and the drivers love it they think it gives them more drivability more options
00:58:15obviously jamie the number 73 corvette has come to a stop antonio garcia will stay behind the wheel
00:58:24right now the crew working to clean off the windshield they also cleaned off the headlights
00:58:30fuel going into the car right now it does not look like they're going to take tires there
00:58:34oh they might actually take tires nope not going to take tires number 73 back out
00:58:39antonio garcia trying to hold on to tony v lander not let that ferrari get too far ahead anything can
00:58:49happen remember we had a report in the middle of the night the 51 may have a gearbox issue that seems
00:58:54not to have cropped up or perhaps they they're just dealing with it and with just under four hours to go
00:59:00anything can still happen we've had problems flying lizards had an electrical issue they got that sorted
00:59:08out and got back out but they lost time and it can happen to anyone so still a long way to go when
00:59:13you think about the sprint races that we run here in the american le mans series for these type of
00:59:18cars two and a half hours two hours 45 minutes we have more than just a normal sprint race and we
00:59:23certainly know that problems can arise in those so still a long way to go from here at le mans in
00:59:29while chile a trying to bring audi a victory and i see a little from time to time just a little bit
00:59:37of moisture as he works past some of the traffic a gt car an lmp2 car and right now davidson not a
00:59:44factor in holding him up but uh that gt traffic is just a minute and change a minute 1.8 seconds julia
00:59:53had in hand over board a and he's going to need a little bit more than that calvin i think if you
00:59:59start looking towards the end of this race
