00:00like in something they see maybe this is it yes that's what they're seeing we're
00:07seeing a replay of it that is wow truly around the outside they're finishing off
00:14the Porsche curves and gets back by Sarazam a rye smile from Dr. Ulrich
00:22there was no doubt there was total commitment it was that was gonna work
00:28and I'm beginning to look at the front of the number two car and to me the front splitter does not look secure
00:37yeah I think he's taking a trip over a curb somewhere and uh but not exactly well when but
00:43Arnaje certainly took a run out there about five minutes ago take a look this is on board
00:51he sees it happening here I go I hope it works is he committed or what
01:00Dr. Ulrich has had few things to smile at today and that was one of them you think it's
01:08all laid back in endurance racing take a look at that and there's plenty more action to come
01:13and the battle is is just as intense as it was when we left you see the number two Benoit Trillier
01:25under intense intense attack there the red mirrors on the number nine Peugeot that is Simon Pagino and
01:33that is for the lead Trillier gets around Pagino wow he's on a march to the front he is I mean and we're
01:42talking about the Peugeot seem to have a little bit more speed on the straight but
01:45without a doubt the Audi's just powered by Sarazam that Trillier was battling with as we went to break
01:52but he took the fight and I wonder if he did it in traffic yet again Audi really seems to have the
01:58responsiveness in traffic it did he use traffic to catch up and then get by Simon Pagino and we
02:05also have been wondering for the entire race have they been holding anything back I think you know
02:10they're at a flat out pace right now that's all they got if he has any more I'm afraid to watch it
02:16after what I saw in the Porsche curves just moments ago look at this Pagino wants it back
02:21this is a dangerous green show going on right now oh a little wide of the apex there through
02:28Indianapolis now the run down to Arnaz and you ask yourself can they do this for the rest of the race
02:33well yeah I think they can Scott it's like you have said multiple times it's like dodging a bullet
02:39and as impressive as Trillier's move was at the exit of the Porsche curves it was a risk it was
02:46either going to be a hero or a zero but yeah how many times can you dodge that bullet let's take a look
02:54at this again a little bit of traffic that's just enough for the Audi to get a run Pagino gets
03:04balked just a little bit uses the 4G key to pick that's good heads up looking far up the road
03:10you can see the acceleration rate is almost identical once the Peugeot was slowed down a bit
03:17kind of side by side it's hard to see any speed differential at all
03:21and now down at the end of the straightaway it's just who can break later who's willing to risk more
03:27right now it's Benoit Trillier who's willing to make that risk for Peugeot
03:33I know that they've got three other opportunities or three opportunities I should say in total
03:38out there right now you still see that body work on the left front of the two car
03:43and to me that nose section does not look tight
03:46it doesn't look good let's open up an air gap and that's going to slow up the straightaway
03:50even more which is where they're weak
03:52it's so hard to understand but the aerodynamic principles of these cars are so sophisticated
03:58just being off by a few thousands of an inch from the ideal location can it change pretty
04:04intensely the balance of the car so we don't know what Benoit Trillier has to deal with right
04:09now if the handling of that number two r18 is ideal or not it looks like they're running
04:19awful fast pace up front with the Audi they're able to stretch out about uh about about six eight lengths
04:25on the Peugeot while this battle while this battle continues you see the 73 corvette the
04:33only corvette left running after Jan Magnussen had his contact with the 63 the proton competition
04:39Porsche there's Christian Reed in the car Andrew do you have an update on Christian
04:46well I do I just spoke to him and he wasn't in the car it wasn't him it was horse
04:51Felbermeyer senior he is still in the medical center here Christian doesn't know what his
04:57condition is quite it's not a huge concern but he obviously was knocked about quite a bit but it
05:02wasn't Christian Reed it was horse Felbermeyer senior thank you for that Andrew timing and scoring still
05:09showing Christian Reed's name beside the number 63 so good to know that he is okay and our thoughts
05:16are certainly with horse Felbermeyer senior you go back to the battle up front and uh you know we've
05:22talked all day long about the drivers of the number two car and uh how they were kind of third in line
05:29in the pecking order but they have not put a wheel wrong all day long it's not that they haven't taken
05:33chances that's for sure no they are now very very impressive Andre Lauder was Marcel Fossler he's just put
05:40his head down and done his job and now Benoit Trillier absolutely stunning but might I say you don't get
05:46a ride in one of these cars without being worthy regardless of it's considered the third car or not
05:55well we were just trying to check an update on Christian Reed and we find out that he was not in
06:01the car we do know it was Jan Magnussen in the Corvette and Jamie what do you know
06:05well I did speak with Jan Magnussen after he made it back out of the car he said that he was going
06:14to go and get some rest I asked him if he had heard from his wife Christine yet about the arrival of
06:19their their baby girl and he said nope no news yet which is why I'm going to go get some rest because
06:24he knows it's going to be a busy week regardless of what happens at the track today obviously not the
06:29end that they were looking for but let's go back to the number two car that you guys were just talking
06:33about speaking with Brad Kettler he said the best way to train drivers to train our crew to train our
06:40engineers is to actually do it in race conditions and that's what they're doing with the number two
06:44car Brad Kettler and all the gang at Audi Sport paying extra attention to the two car now because
06:50they're the only one left but they've been paying extra attention to them all year long because this is
06:54their development program this is their next generation of Audi Sport drivers and they're
06:59doing everything that they can to give them all the experience needed and right now it's being put
07:03to the true tent well Jamie we've seen the body work on the front of the two car a bit loose at least
07:10from the driver's perspective I'd like to know if you've had any conversation with Brad Kettler as
07:15to whether or not they plan to change that knows when they come in to make their next stop
07:19traffic playing a huge piece in the race you just see you try and work that traffic to your advantage
07:33sometimes it plays out sometimes it doesn't but Audi is stretching out a bit more of a lead at the
07:38moment seven car the Peugeot also has some aero problems in that one of the winglets on the nose has
07:46come loose on the right side so that looks like it could tear off and lose a little bit of frontal
07:50downforce perhaps Alexander hurts not having the car underneath him that he wants right now I mean
07:57with six hours and 20 minutes left to go these cars have been fun for quite a while so it'll be
08:02interesting to see not only who has the power to make it to the end but who has the balance to make
08:08it to the end Jamie well you asked about the nose on the number two car it would be very unlike Audi
08:18to need to make an adjustment change the nose and not have it out and ready when Ralph Yuttner the
08:23technical director for Audi Sport walked us through their garage area this week they have stacks of
08:28them sitting back there ready to go but they do not have any out here in pit lane ready to go when the
08:33crew is ready for a pit stop but it doesn't look like they're going to be making any adjustments I'll
08:37let you know if they pull one out but right now it looks like it might be a stop just status quo well
08:42thanks Jamie I appreciate that and the thing that's interesting is they have the same feed that we have
08:46they see the onboard shot so they know that that panel is loose and for seems like for Ralph Yuttner and
08:53Brad Kettler the rest of Yost racing that they're thinking well we're going to let it go for right now we're
08:58going to let it ride for right now there's it's obviously they know a lot more they're a lot more
09:03intimate with the car than we are and they know what they need to change and what they don't well and
09:06they've spoken I'm sure on the radio with Tillier and he's either told them yes the balance is fading
09:13or no the balance is good and if the balance is good there's no reason to take the time through the
09:18right-hander into Indianapolis spectacular piece of racetrack then the short run to Arnaz the very tight
09:25right-hand corner see them beginning to catch traffic I think that might be the 51 the leader
09:31in the GTE pro category Tony Vlander obviously our audio our audio is certainly not our video
09:40he just did our nice flat which is very frightening actually that wasn't the 51 it was one of the GTE
09:46AM cars here come the Peugeots oh and this is the issue we talked about it earlier you
09:55get in there with drivers who are not familiar with the racetrack and perhaps just right at the
10:01top of their ability level and they've got to focus on driving the car not a lot left over to focus
10:06on paying attention to traffic and Sarzan wants to get back up front he wants to get his lap back so
10:11he's got a little different motivation than the rest of the Peugeot group interesting to see that lap
10:17back that Pagino has dropped back a little bit from Chollier and you look at the lap times and
10:22Chollier faster by almost two seconds 1.7 seconds the last time around so uh I mean that Audi really
10:31digging deep and laying down some lap times right now and obviously traffic ebbs and flows and has
10:36something to do with that but uh hey you know they could have just gone back to their game plan
10:41you know you mount those attacks for a while and if you can make good of it good if you can't make good of
10:45it you fall back in and you know there's a long way to go still no need to uh abuse the equipment
10:51of six and a half hours almost right now the crew the engineers looking on from the Peugeot camp making
10:57their notes making their game plan as you say Dorsey try to figure out how to get to the end of this
11:03event and take the checkered flag for Peugeot they've got three opportunities to do it Audi down to one
11:08we know Audi setting up for a pit stop we'll see if it's this lap or not
11:19Benoit Trillier built that lead to just about four and a half seconds indeed to pit road right now
11:25and uh with a four and a half second lead from just two laps ago literally nose to tail with Pagino and
11:31then taking that lead so that number two Audi very very quick indeed comes to the pits the nine of
11:39Pagino comes to pit road as well so they are on the same pit sequence and it is a long long run
11:46down pit road at 60 kilometers per hour right now it's got to feel like an eternity to tell you who has been
11:52spectacular on the racetrack let's see what they do obviously it's routine but they changed tires
12:01and driver last time and so they'll probably just do water bottle fuel and be off they'll probably
12:06triple stint the tires there's the drink bottle you see the nine Pagino in as well expect the same
12:13pit treatment down there as well the michelin's will stay on 65 liters of diesel will go in
12:22now he got to his pit box first because it's at the beginning of pit road the Audi is at the far end
12:28so while it looks like the nine is away a little bit sooner they'll come out in the order in which
12:33they entered the pits two car in front of the nine now on board the 73 tommy milner behind
12:42the wheel tony melander leading in gte pro and milner running second and about two-thirds of a
12:48lap behind still right now he's showing a lap behind but that'll cycle through and if it works out the
12:54way it has recently milner should be shown on the same lap they're going to need some help to close
12:59that distance a little bit a yellow that's not of their own doing but we've had yeah they've had
13:06plenty of those yet today till you ain't back on track those michelin tires nice thing about that is
13:11as cool as it is you come in you get your fuel you're right back on track and the michelins are
13:15still very very warm there's pagino back behind him coming out of polson corner and the run up
13:24up towards indianapolis the two right-hand kinks one of those where mike rockenfeller had his problem
13:30up to stay the tire stints are outstanding unbelievable that these machines can go four stints
13:40interesting on that pit stop you know we kept wondering about the body work on the two cars
13:45they didn't even they never even touched it yeah they didn't even they're no concern at all
13:50this there it is there's the offending member that we're talking about and the faster he goes
13:57the more it lifts up you can begin to see a little daylight through it but
14:02right now the engineers not seeing anything that they don't like and more importantly
14:07benoit trellier not commenting on a handling problem with the car andrew
14:11down here the eight car the one that's playing the catch-up is in this is just for fuel and cleaning
14:22the windscreen cleaning the lights the fuel goes in uh you talked about the liters just to say it's
14:28about 17 us gallons that they put in and uh the car now accelerates away and we are expecting the seven
14:37car in the next uh 30 seconds or so so the uh three peugeots will all come in within the space of
14:46well two laps really getting decided it's interesting to see because one of the peugeots came on the same
14:52cycle as the audi one a lap later and then one the leader the seven car is coming in
14:59later yeah the seven car has been off on its sequence for quite a long time had my notes here
15:04before and they they split that one out early for whatever reason it was interesting because
15:09they all came in in the same lap during that yellow so they've split their strategy already
15:13we talked about how far away from the end of the race do you begin to back time well peugeot out
15:19all obviously already has looked at that said let's begin to change our strategies to make sure that
15:24we have three good opportunities to get this done alexander verts leading now in the number seven peugeot
15:33then and watch julia has gotten back up to second then pagino in third stefan sarazan desperately wants
15:41to get back on the lead lap he runs in fourth right now and we'd expect the seven peugeot to be pitting this
15:47last lap best of the petrol powered cars the number 16 the pescarolo entry christoph tintsun behind the
15:54wheel right now running in fifth
15:59even after the problems that the number 10
16:01huge deshaunax team aurica matmut has had they are sixth in the running order and that's a good
16:07comeback after the significant damage we saw to the tent car in the night like i said they just did a
16:12good job to get that nose repaired it took a very heavy blow right smack in the center of it that
16:18dissipates a lot of energy it doesn't dissipate and then guys went to work changed that right front
16:25suspension whole new upright suspension all the pieces fantastic job that's what these guys practice
16:31for you don't want it to happen but if it does they're certainly ready to go to work good audio of the
16:37diesel and how it doesn't make any noise except the wind and that's what you were hearing that
16:42as it went by through the air in the lmp2 category it's olivier lombard in the 41 the greaves racing
16:49zytec nissan that leads right now and he's got a comfortable lead about
16:54three laps it appears right now over the 26th the signatech nissan who was our pole sitter in that
17:02class say we expect a seven car to pit this lap yep there he is the blue mirrors on the seven that's
17:10how you can tell which car is which the seven has the blue mirrors and indeed dives to pit road stays
17:17on the same strategy that is a very tight hit entrance the chicane there and you get a little short
17:23shoot then another little left right jog onto pit road itself and you can certainly make a mistake
17:29there as we saw anthony davidson do last year andrew marriott
17:33yeah and the seven car alexander burts looking for his third victory here stops right on his mark
17:45and this will just be a splash of fuel the door is already shut they just opened the door briefly
17:51for the water bottle that's all done and dusted and talking about dusting that's more or less what
17:57they're doing on the wind stream fuel still going in and this car is about to wash its way out because
18:04that's literally what they do fuel still going in seems to be so slow with this new regulation and he
18:11stalls it but he fires it up again and it's stalled again is there a problem no he's fired it up and now
18:19it's uh now it's up to the pit speed limit and is heading to pit out so a little bit of minor drama
18:29there with the car stalling twice as it went out bert's on his way and when we go back to the rules you
18:35cannot spin the rear tires when you leave your pit box once again the michelin tire is very warm
18:41so a lot of grip on the way out so verge just trying to get the seven back on track man look at
18:46that by trellier there's another bullet dodge that is at the exit the porsche curves around an lmp2 car
18:53you can do that once you can do it twice can he do it a third time and get away with it well we saw
18:58two outies that didn't get a chance to get away with it absolutely it only takes just a barely a touch
19:05and you're set flying so trellier the bit in his teeth out in front right now he's trying to build
19:12as much as he can the lead over pagino it is at nine seconds right now only two laps out of the pit
19:19trelliers flying a 328 to a 330 for pagino well you know it's six hours to go you know running qualified
19:27numbers are running as hard as they are it's going to take its toll he's certainly taking the risk we see
19:32that almost every lap in traffic and at some point in time you got to believe you're going to be
19:38bit but right now trellier absolutely spectacular to watch a lot less traffic down there was yesterday
19:44a lot less traffic now unfortunately but that does happen during a 24-hour race and the other thing is
19:50remember audi is looking at the back of the race forward as well so in the next set of circumstances
19:55what we're going to see is uh it's thinking about you know they can go one or two extra laps and
20:01looking at timing and scoring the official timing and scoring and the message on the bottom of the
20:05screen stop and go penalty for team number eight that is stefan sarazan who's working to get his
20:14lap back trying as hard as he possibly can so it seems like some type of a pit infraction perhaps
20:20either that or past 48 we haven't seen any yellows out there so it can't be passing no what's uh
20:25the interesting you find out what the penalty is for well it also says one m in at the sign of is
20:31that one minute did he run over pit equipment or such one minute ferrari on pit road it looks like that
20:39is the 51 and if that's the case that would be your leader in gte pro tony vlander showed behind the
20:46wheel but i'm seeing tires being changed so i've got to believe there's also been a driver change
20:52in the 51 it's off the jacks refired and back underway traillier continuing to lead
20:58and 7.8 seconds roughly in hand the last time by at the line andrew what's going on down at peugeot
21:06well i was just uh telling you that in a moment i'm 51 can't go out and uh broody got into the car
21:17tony villanda the flying fit yeah sorry the 51 and uh tony villanda the flying fit just got out of the
21:25car jimmy broody went in it was a nice clean stop so that car is still racing hard now i'm going to
21:30drop my way down to peugeot try and find out what this penalty is all about thank you andrew and for
21:37stefan sarazan that is not good news that uh depends on where they are on the lap as to whether
21:44they'll lose another lap by coming in and doing that penalty it is a three and a half minute lap around
21:50here at le mans and if he's held for a minute and has a 30 second or so run down pit lane perhaps he
21:57won't lose you olivia cannell there being uh informed by the crew it's perhaps what is the
22:03problem or what was the problem on that pit stop that caused the issue
22:12there is the eight sarazan on track the white mirrors on the eight car red mirrors on the nine
22:18the blue mirrors on the seven that alexander verts pilots right now benrod trillier out in front now
22:2410.3 seconds so he is continuing to lap consistently quicker than simon pagino right
22:31now and beginning to build even more of a lead that is the 16 the pescarolo entry is running in fifth
22:39christoph tintsu was behind the wheel and they were having a great run leading the petrol class but now in
22:44the garage going to work trying to see uh diagnose what's going on with that car right now sarazan there
22:52obviously the eight not coming to pitch yet so i'm assuming they're having a conversation with
22:56the officials to try to get that a race that seldom seems to work though and they're not have it too long
23:04no that won't work i think they've accepted i just spoke with bruno famine
23:08one mechanic did not have his visor down we've seen this a lot the american le mans series
23:13so even a well-drilled organization like bergeot could make the little mistake and that's the sort
23:19of mistake in a race as close as this that couldn't make all the difference between victory and finishing
23:25third one stumble and it could take you out of the hunt for stephan sarazan he still has six hours to
23:31make up for the error that he had and his crew had on pit road plenty of excitement yet to come i know
23:38he's taking a short nap but for benoit juliet it's been very exciting indeed stick around
23:51speed's coverage of the 24 hours of le mans is brought to you by chevrolet
23:54an america's premier sports car corvette
23:59we've just crossed the six hour mark
24:02so right now 559 and change left 9 a.m in le mans and uh the race is over you can tell there
24:11are no cars on the race oh there they are that's right they were hiding somewhere eight miles away
24:1630 cars left running and it is the magnetic principle of race cars they all found themselves
24:21in one area of the track it was amazing we looked at the front straight away for probably
24:2530 seconds and nary a car came by we talk about that and i thought it was absolutely crazy before going
24:30there my first time but i did one or two stints where i saw headlights but never actually saw another
24:37car it's crazy 8.4 miles roughly of racetrack out there and there's plenty of room for the 30 cars
24:44that remain running here in the 79th running of the le mans 24 hour the pescarolo entry still in the garage
24:52area we saw the engine cover come off christoph tensu behind the wheel they are still shown in fifth
24:59but that will eventually begin and don't forget while we were away sarazhan came in and did a stop
25:05and go plus one minute it seemed like forever from p1 to p2 it is the zytaq of olivier lombard
25:14leads right now the greaves racing entry jamie what do you have on the 41.
25:21i just checked in with the team and kareem oje is going to get back in the car
25:26just shortly he said it's going to be about 20 minutes he's going to get in do a couple of cents
25:31and they're going to get tom kimber smith behind the wheel he's going to do a triple right now the
25:35team says everything's going flawlessly they're just going to keep taking through their faces
25:39running through their laps there's no need to push anything right now they're just waiting to make it
25:43to the end kareem oje and tom kimber smith currently third in the lms lmp2 drivers championship so
25:51they're doing a good job and mojay had a blowout at the lamont test day on the way to indianapolis
25:55corner and that is certainly an exciting place we saw the unfortunate incident from mike rocket
26:00phillip on that same run down towards indianapolis i cannot imagine having a problem there nigel
26:07mansell interestingly enough had a crash in the same location same basic location last year with a huge
26:13impact so it is an area that you certainly want to avoid any type of a problem you get to see tintsu
26:19out of the garage area the 16 back down on uh well not yet still must have a dolly underneath it
26:26there he goes i think jack was although it wasn't all the way up yeah spun the tires a little bit
26:32but now tintsu back underway long time on pit road there and there is the 10 you the sean axe peugeot
26:40the 908 hdi you gotta wonder you know what if you'll be thinking about that for a long time yeah how
26:47many races have you run where you wonder what if yeah exactly you wonder yourself into the ground man
26:57we'll be back for our leaders 13 and a half seconds in hand right now
27:01miguel trillier has over simon pagino and uh he's just been absolutely magic consistently in both cars
27:10obviously in traffic consistently pulling away in a few tenths per lap and sometimes even more than that
27:17it's starting to add up we saw five seconds eight seconds ten seconds now up to 13 seconds
27:22a lead that the uh number two audi has over the number nine peugeot as you know there was alerts and
27:29then sarazhan that lap down and maybe even two laps down after that long lengthy penalty stop
27:36we'll have to see how that cycles out it was not only a stop and go it was a stop and hold for
27:41one minute we timed it here uh they did indeed hold them for a minute so you can't no speculation
27:47there but even for us sitting here watching it it seemed like an eternity absolutely painful and
27:54think about the driver in there and he's been working really hard to get in a tenth you know a couple
27:58tenths there and there and it wasn't his mistake and it wasn't his mistake is right but you know what
28:03it's a team that's exactly what i was going to say scott it takes a team to get the job done and
28:09everyone has to accept that mistakes will be made you try to limit those but you can't get down on
28:15anybody you get back out and you do your job just like the crew does if you have an off on the racetrack
28:20and damage the car back down the straightaway the p2 car is coming through a lot of traffic that is
28:31stefan sarazan i believe white mirrors on that peugeot that's coming towards us right now
28:38looks like the 16 of christoph tinson we were just talking about him right behind him
28:44huge speed difference between those two you know i think so much of the diesel power comes in
28:51in areas that you don't see a little bit more acceleration a little bit more top speed a little bit
28:56more efficiency you've wondered about the problems for the 16 andrew you have more
29:04you know firstly it's julian juice who's at the wheel not christoph tinson i've just been
29:10ceremoniously bundled out of the garage by madame pescarono it's only a little woman she's pretty fiery
29:17and they're refusing to say what the problem actually is but i think it's somewhere in the engine
29:22management system but together with that they've also got a problem with their fueling
29:27and we might just be showing you that they just have to change a hose so there's quite a lot of
29:33issues here at the moment for the pescarolo thank you for pointing out the error of my ways timing and
29:39scoring has now cycled through and indeed you are correct andrew as you normally are it is julian juice
29:45being shown on timing and scoring in the 16th so a driver changed while the car was in the garage and
29:51once again there's a look at the 10. i thought you were psychic i am psycho from time to time just
29:56asked my children to look they're all behind the wheel of the 10.
30:02he has together a great group of drivers
30:07olivia penn is one of those who helps not only with driving but some of the management as well and look at
30:13this trilier just i don't want to say forcing his way through he's not literally moving cars but he
30:19certainly does not hesitate to work his way through certainly not losing any time to it either no you're
30:24taking a look at the different class leaders that's the 50 the leader in the gte and you saw the 41
30:31the leader the zytec with olivier lombard on board the 41 zytec leading in the lmp2 category
30:37and you saw the 51 with jimmy bruni behind the wheel the ferrari entry that beautiful 458 the 51
30:50as well and those are the leaders in the four categories the ferrari of course by a.f
30:55corsa and bruni sharing that car with john carlo fizichella tony v lander there's one of the bmws
31:03the 55 augusta farfus oh they've worked that bmw back up to third after the problems that they've had
31:10but still several laps down to the leader but it is the age-old tried and true in these long distance
31:17races it is not over until it's over they take another shot on board a little traffic here
31:22back to the right i'll go that way thank you very much they're going to wear out the little uh
31:31headlight yeah the flash is getting more activity than anything on it as you watch tillier flash
31:39through just on deceleration sometime see a little puff of smoke right there i saw it yeah it is a
31:46single exhaust system a single turbo on the 3.7 liter v6 diesel and so that exhaust
31:52system is right in the center and comes out right at the base of the wing and getting to see that
31:57smoke that little puff of smoke on decel and i don't know that uh that's anything to worry about
32:02but certainly something that we haven't seen at least in the opening stages yeah i think they've
32:08he's just giving it a good thrashing right now no doubt about that well there is absolutely no doubt about
32:13that there is this curb let's hop over this curb let's uh let's do some durability testing here
32:21he's tossing it around yes he is it's interesting you talk about the curbs and alexander verts had said
32:27you know he and david brabham and mark janae won by never touching a curb he said our teammates did and
32:34we knew that they were going to have to replace noses and we said we can save time in the pits it takes
32:40about a minute to a minute and a half to change one of those noses he said we can gain three minutes
32:44by not doing that they never touched a curb all day and they won so the question is how much can you
32:49punish the car we've already seen a little bit of loose body work on the two and over the next five
32:54hours and 50 minutes it'll be interesting to see if there might have to be some changes made to that
33:00number two cards you look at one of the lotus evora's out on track things settling down a little bit
33:06right now and a problem for that same fairy lotus is he gets turned around and back underway benoit
33:11trillier continues the lead and it's at 15 and a half seconds right now over simon pagino the cruise
33:18at work really is beginning to look at the end of the race and back time what strategy do we need
33:24strategy down there have another question we'll be back
33:27we'll see you over there next year and it is definitely how cool would that be to win that man
33:41that would be just awesome you can't do it though you're not you're not you're not you're not you're
33:48excluded well i went there with corvette well yeah you've been yeah that's right you've been there
34:01in a corvette so so you're definitely i'd like to go there included yeah that's the only thing i'd like
34:07keep whining about that it's only 23 hours of wetness that year
34:14i'm sure it was very soggy you know the trophy was still shiny wasn't it the trophy is still
34:19shiny yeah thank you very much thank you very much stop complaining one for one all right there goes
34:26the 73 corvette with tommy mullin behind the wheel he flashes through looking back down the order
34:31a little conversation the signatech nissan guys conversation about the power plants that is the
34:38hpd power plant joao barbosa behind the wheel of the number 33 level five lola coop you see the
34:46what some people refer to as the bhf on the back of that lola coop that is the big honking fin
34:53that is regulated by the 2011 rules towards the fin the bhf the big honking fin and uh you also see
35:00that on the peugeots and the audi's many of these cars grandfathered in so right now 2011 somewhat of
35:07a transition year in the rules package so different cars different rules packages some of them are
35:12grandfathered cars some of them meet the 2011 regulations and are cost cap cars some of them are
35:19not cost cap but meet the 2011 regulations the lmp2 category is really a conglomeration of bits and
35:27pieces of cars right now but we've seen a pretty good uh pretty good run at it the guys here today
35:32what about hybrids now you know you got the hybrid technology out there they're trying to push that
35:37forward as well and how does that fit into the whole scheme wow and it's going to be interesting
35:41because in the gt category at least the 911 hybrid is spectacular it's coming oh i mean it is wicked fast
35:50that you just have to get used to something sitting beside you and spinning it what is it 40 000 rpm
35:55yeah made out of storing energy a disk that's sitting over there and the guys that drive it say
36:00that uh the hybrid system actually makes more noise than the petrol-powered engine in the back of the
36:06car and it's uh but it is an engineering marvel to say the least there is the 51 jimmy bruni looks just
36:14like scott pruitt look at that well just like him up front baby i believe that was actually your picture
36:23there with jimmy bruni's name beside it it's bruni that leaves right now in the gtm class so uh once
36:30again a little glory for you there scott this time you're in a ferrari it looks like yeah what do you
36:35think does that look like me that's the best way to just keep moving around where they don't know where
36:39you're at that's right especially for the bill collectors yeah we have we have to put a foul
36:43at the end of your name though if you're going to be driving for af factory driver look at that
36:49bruni gonna get a little bit of a tow off of an lmp2 car guy maybe i could save a little fuel i'll just
36:54drop back in behind him and well he actually lmp2 car made a mistake and hindered his forward momentum
37:01if you want to call it that okay well earlier we thought that christian reed was behind the wheel
37:10of the 63 that had the impact with the portion that had the impact with the end magnuson in the corvette
37:16that was not the case it was horst felbermeyer senior and andrew marion you have an update on mr felbermeyer
37:23yes i do and i've just been talking to wolf hensler of course is in the sister car he tells me that
37:33horst has been taken to the hospital in lamar just for uh check-ups uh rather the situation of course
37:41with the element is similar thing but he understands that horst will be absolutely fine but obviously it's
37:47a pretty big accent but horse is one of the older guys in the race and i think uh he possibly is
37:54the oldest guy in the race and i have to tell you for the first time in my life coming here for 40
38:00years i'm older than every single driver in the race which is not a good thing you're older than
38:06every single driver in the race not added together right andrew that can't be cumulative is it
38:11andrew's not well you know i can talk about old guys he's going to feel that one for a while but
38:22i think andrew has more energy than half of the young guys that are out there that are driving
38:29level five joel barbosa behind the wheel on pit road jamie
38:32they are right now it's a normal pit stop but they are going to be making some body work changes
38:41they're giving joel barbosa a new drink bottle making sure the fuel is all complete now this
38:46team is going to get to work what they're doing is they're going to change the shock cover because
38:49on their last pit stop they notice that their radio antenna was cut down so they're going to put a new
38:54one on they're also going to change the rear wing assembly they think that they might have a latch
38:59coming loose on it it's at the point in the race where you can't take any chances and they're going
39:03to use this opportunity to also make a couple arrow changes because they are getting complaints of a
39:08little bit of understeer you can see all the work being done right now this is quick quick quick work
39:15considering the amount of work that's being done team had a meeting before the stop saying just take
39:20your time get it done we have plenty of it nicely done nicely done and work continues guys and obviously you
39:28don't want that rear wing assembly coming off or your understeer will go to oversteer very quickly
39:34see the audi and trillier 12 almost 13 seconds in hand when he came to the pits and crew holding him
39:41for some reason making some type of a change or adjustment to the car at the scene you're there
39:45to just wait until i'm fuel i think i would want my vertical stabilizer to have a rudder on the back
39:50the bhf big honking fin and help with turning and i said perhaps making some type of adjustment
39:57forgetting that once again with the restrictor in the fuel hose takes some 30 seconds to fill 65
40:05liters of fuel so it seems like it stops out i mean it seems when you're sitting there
40:10it might as well be five minutes yeah when we talked about the minute hold for stefan sarazan and how
40:16it seemed to be so long trillier back underway pagino now has flashed by and taken the lead
40:25verts has gotten by as well and trillier will re-enter the racetrack about 38 seconds behind
40:32the leader simon pagino right now but if things stay true to form i would expect to see simon pagino in
40:38this lap this lap yeah 262 is when he's except for the fact one more yeah well 263 was he not in
40:46wasn't he in with trillier the last time they came together did they not yes they did so if he goes one
40:53more lap again we're seeing that one extra lap yeah they're doing 12 laps to the 11 so that would
40:59in fact you're right put him at 263
41:01and i know i keep harping on this but has peugeot found the secret weapon to that extra lap and to
41:09the top speed with that wing adjustment that that different rear wing that they have on the peugeot
41:15is that giving them enough for the extra lap and a little top speed andrew
41:23yeah i think they're definitely going to do that extra lap again i'm down at the
41:28the pit or peugeot no sign of any activity down here at all at the moment
41:34so jamie how you've got a report for us
41:4055 bmw is going to go into the garage area as it came to a stop on pit lane there is some fluid
41:46coming from the hood so the team's pushing it in to get to work
41:51augustos farfus had been up as high as third
41:55and gte pro but it seems like they claw their way back up they have an issue and they drop back
42:02down and that is the ebb and flow of endurance racing jimmy bruni right now in the 51 ferrari any
42:07talk of a transmission problem hours ago that we heard seems to have been perhaps a little bit of a
42:14premature worry on their part because that ferrari 458 running just fine tommy milner holding down second
42:21place in gte pro being shown on timing and scoring at least right now until they cycle through one
42:27lap down but we feel that he's just about two-thirds of a lap behind we'll have to wait and see if that
42:33is indeed the case yeah that is about 355 so they're right together on the racetrack just about eight
42:39seconds apart so right now jimmy bruni just about eight seconds behind tommy milner on the racetrack how
42:44much do you figure a digital led pit stop board is worth at night to keep you from making a mistake
42:53just to buy it yeah just to buy it well if you have to worry about what your pit board costs i don't
42:57think you can run the car that's for sure well i'm gonna try to get jamie you know to sweetly as she
43:04does go over there and snatch it see if you can get one bring it back for us i think the problem for
43:08tommy milner is that jimmy bruni is so close to lapping him and bruni lapping about two and a half
43:15seconds faster right now than milner is in the corvette and obviously the problems for farfus and
43:21the bmw the it looks fairly bodywork is off yeah this this is not going to be a quick fix looks like
43:26they're working up by the radiator too so if it's fluid leak up there uh that could be a whole radiator
43:32or whatever not an easy a quick fix that should elevate andy prio then in the 56 up to the third
43:39position here in about a lap he's being shown about three laps behind jimmy bruni the leader in the gte
43:45pro category and gtem it is patrick bornhauser in the lumber competition so we're looking at the nine
43:52peugeot at the moment of pagino and he's going to go two laps longer so he's instead of pitting at 261
44:00they're going to look at 263 so perhaps they've actually backed down the pace a little bit
44:05changed the fuel setting saved a little bit of fuel and stretching that other lap he pitted last at 251
44:11so they're going to go 12 laps which is stretching it at least one more than now he has been doing
44:17and that is just not good news for the outing camp i mean if they could get 14 laps that would be
44:24impressive indeed did you see the number nine simon pagino the red mirrors on the
44:30nine car it's difficult to determine which car is which and really the colors on the mirrors
44:37and on window screens on some of the different gt cars the only way you can discern team cars
44:42from one another peugeot's and the audi's both use different color highlights the red mirrors on the
44:47nine white mirrors on the eight and blue mirrors on the number seven in the peugeot camp
44:52for the audi benoit trillier it's real simple it's the only r18 left out on the racetrack but
45:02you're right on board tommy miller doing all that he can do to try to hold off jimmy bruni he doesn't
45:08want to go down a lap you can you can make it back here but with the staggered pace car safety car rules
45:16that they have makes it very difficult indeed so miller doing all that he can do
45:24try to hold on pagino picked up the pace a little bit and benoit trillier not been around to click the
45:35start finish line yet again on a fast lap so don't really know where he sits other than about 36 seconds
45:41behind the last time by behind simon pagino we expect to see alexander verts here in a lap or two
45:46as well in the peugeot camp where it seemed like he was going another lap he's he's got
45:54cycled to do another lap further not i mean i think it's same total laps for one stop but just
46:00was able to cycle through for one lap further and that's exactly what it appeared the last time that
46:05they had managed to stagger their cars for three different strategical approaches towards the end of
46:10the race pagino now coming into the pits just on time just as you would expect it dorses counting
46:19down the laps on the different cars here pagino peugeot as they usually are in the first three garages
46:27pagino is there and so is andrew yes i am we've just been pushed to one side because we think the
46:37seven is going to come in very soon as well and this is uh purely a fuel stop
46:45a uh drinks bottle has been handed in and the door has been shut the fuel is still going in at the
46:52moment it just seems so slow this year but this is uh another clean stop from peugeot and out that car
47:01goes i'm glad to see there's still a lot now it's the eight car expecting next pushing and shoving
47:06going on down there in pit lane as usual and it gets worse the later it gets in the final hour on
47:12those final stops the ropes come out yeah they will aggravate me and they literally you'll have a guard
47:19that jumps out with a rope and then pulls the rope back up to the wall and knocks everyone along in an
47:25that rotation i can't i can't imagine that door scene it was with the vista flying yeah they would
47:31knock you out of the way he knocked me down so i knocked him down i thought it was fair i looked at
47:36it this way the rope is only so long i let the guy go to the end of the rope i go a little bit further
47:40and then i just run around him i'm gonna disconnect the far end it doesn't make him happy when you do
47:47that but you know you got to figure out a way around him right now they want trillier trying to figure out
47:52a way around alexander virtson it won't be a pass it's going to happen as the different cars come
47:57to pit road but trillier is going to have to deal with gt traffic you saw a gaggle of cars right there
48:03in front of him he exited one of the chicanes now the eight on pit road stefan sarazan
48:14there's a look at the rear wing of the peugeot it's kind of hard to tell what we're talking about it's
48:19just kind of bent down at the lead at the trailing edge of the secondary flap and that really takes
48:26that mandatory 20 millimeter wicker and moves it out of the airstream pretty significantly did we ever
48:33get to the whale bumps we saw the whale bumps on the oak racing rear wing as well and all of that
48:40is in the same effort to reduce the drag that the officials tried to install by mandating that 20
48:48millimeter gertie imagine that the engineers trying to overcome the rules packages there's always got
48:52to be loop holes somehow some way talk about that's the other way you were talking about now this concept
48:59came believe it or not if you believe what you read in print from examining a whale and the efficiency
49:06of the size of the whale and those whales have those bumps on the leading edge of their fins fluid dynamics
49:12fluid dynamics and um in nature so now they have them on other nature at it figure that
49:19so it's going to be interesting to see when words makes his way to pit lane number seven fujo
49:26should be shortly i would think there he is in the number seven the blue mirrors working his way
49:31around one of the lotus abhoras and starting to see little puffs of smoke uh out of the seven as well
49:37they're getting tired not nearly as big as the puffs of smoke flame and uh pistons that were exiting the
49:45exhaust from all of the peugeots last year i shouldn't say all of them one of them had a
49:51a tub problem when the suspension pulled out and expect to see verts not this time one more lap
49:57i wonder what the conversation that's right with the whale was like because they initially had pitted
50:03with pagino on the same lap as audi now they've gone a few laps longer they stretched it already
50:11great show strategy beginning to play out it's jimmy bruni that leads in the gte pro category
50:17tommy miller in the corvette catch it we'll find out
50:20welcome back to lemar and this magnificent battle continues obviously it's three to one we just have
50:35the pit stop here of the number seven audi the austrian formula formula alexandra first is at the
50:42wheel they have a couple of tires ready here in fact we've had more tires ready but they didn't
50:49use them and the car accelerates out away from me and peugeot versus audi what a battle what a lamar to
50:57remember in 2011. there's a lot to remember and i know there are different parts of this race some
51:04people would like to forget and actually will have forgotten i'm sure they don't remember bits and pieces
51:09of some of it but alexander verts heads back on track the youngest driver in history to win
51:14lamar at the age of 22 that was 15 years ago he's now 37 but verts had clean even even as a younger
51:21driver thank you very much very mature i had a conversation with him at sebring several years
51:26ago and he said i can remember testing in formula one and looking over and seeing the the prototypes
51:32running and he said i want to drive one of those and had his agent go over and start having
51:37conversations with the prototypes team saying i want to drive one of those i want to get that done
51:42and eventually did one in the twr porsche at le mans back in 1996 and then again in 09 and a peugeot
51:51so he has a love affair with sports cars and has really since the first time he laid it on and then
51:56for a lot of formula one drivers the mentality that it takes to be an endurance racer just isn't there but
52:02for words seems to understand the game completely and i think actually enjoys the the sports car
52:08side of it the endurance side of it the strategical side of it much better than he enjoyed his formula
52:13one career f1's no fun and this is f1 can be uh not that i ever competed full-time went to europe
52:23and tested over there but uh it's it's pretty cutthroat and it's a it's a lot of pressure and these guys come
52:28over here and get the opportunity to drive put in a lot of miles have some fun and not have the pressure
52:33that it do in formula one yeah not have the cutthroatness as it does this is correct
52:43this is a team effort and so you can spread it out a little bit
52:48jackie jackie icks standing there uh down in the 22 camp venina his daughter whenever he's driving that
52:55he always has it tied up but i've never seen him wear fashion it's a fashion statement
53:07here we go whistling on time yeah getting by i mean this is one of those we're talking about the
53:15strategic area of this race right now and you're really starting to see some interesting fuel strategies
53:21come on board with the with the audi and the peugeot's that are left significant different in
53:27laps on where they're making their stops and that's going to change the outlook of this race as we get
53:32into closing stages we got five hours and 20 roughly five hours and 23 minutes to go yeah peugeot's
53:39going 12 laps with their cars audi is only making 11. you talk about back timing
53:48this race explain that a little bit when you look at the end of the race and you're just thinking
53:52about how long each of your stops is going to go under green and what you need to do to get the
53:57least amount of stops to get to the checkered flag that's what peugeot's doing for sure julian
54:05juice behind the wheel number seven something alexander wurtz great shot right there was a beautiful
54:12wear a tear on some of these cars with uh just over five hours to go you can see the punishment
54:18that they've been through world feed keeping us guessing oh a little bit of tape tape
54:25if that's all you got hanging off the car right
54:28i'd deal with that
54:33so you're working your way from the end back trying to look at the best way to get there in
54:38at least amount of stops for audi it looks like they may have to go one more stop than the few
54:45shows at this point that's what pujo's hoping for anyway for sure
55:00you watch the cars circulate around the racetrack jackie icks the six-time winner here at le mans
55:05you saw him standing down there in the garage of the 22 that vanina drives for and andrew is there
55:10and andrew i'm sure you'll have an interesting conversation with mr x
55:18jackie how difficult is it being a racing dad with your daughter out there honestly not easy
55:24yes it's a little bit painful because you have always the wish to see your daughter doing well
55:37but you know it's le mans and everything may happen now this is a terrific race can you remember
55:44battles like this when you were involved with them you had several great battles
55:48um we had some battles in the past but this one i think is going to be really exceptional
55:58that's what endurance racing needs this battle between four peugeot and one audi
56:07without knowing who will get the glory that's what we really need it's still a long way to go
56:13it's now last night we saw two big accidents can you imagine climbing out of a porsche 962
56:22after having an accident like alan munich had or like rocky had
56:28luckily during these last 40 years race courses and cars never stopped improving
56:34and i think you can call these two accidents where no one was really hurt
56:41a real miracle and thanks to the technology thanks to the improvement on cars yes a driver can go out
56:52of these cars unheard plus the fact that we i think we have been extremely lucky
56:59not having any kind of marshals or photographs or spectator involved in it so
57:05the word miracle it's the correct jackie thanks very much privilege to talk to you thank you
57:12i agree with everything you just exactly yeah that was spot on you know absolutely
57:18yeah scott i know you and i had a conversation about safety even at the last race where we were and
57:24and you know you talk about it and it's something that we take for granted but when you see the
57:29incidents like we've seen here you understand uh just how far technology has come but i think jackie
57:34x was spot on miracle because uh as good as technology is the the potential for disaster
57:43is still there and while the crashes that we've seen at this event have been spectacular the disaster
57:49seems to have been avoided well i'll say one thing i bet you anything when you come back next year
57:55the area that mcneish crashed in will not be full of you know of people right there there'll be some
58:00for sure improvement even they'll go back and expect the race cars and what has happened and
58:05what's taken place and look at making those better as well because from accidents improvements come and
58:10that's the that's the only good side of those accidents uh as well as the survivability as the
58:15drivers is to come away from that with a good look at the car and and just go back go how can we
58:20make these cars safer how can we make the racetrack safer no one who saw that accident down there
58:25could call it anything but a miracle that none of the uh photographers or are the fans behind that
58:32were injured that is a true miracle well andrew was talking to jackie icks the 50 the leader
58:40in the gtem category patrick bornhauser was in now here is alan mish's crashes early on not only look
58:47at the car as it makes contact but the spectators the photographers as jackie was talking about as you
58:53guys mentioned take a look at this and watch this watch this rear suspension it's gone it's way above
58:59the top of it's going to land next to this lady in blue watch this well how close was that and that
59:07probably weighed 35 45 that's on board with timo bernard you see the speed at which mcnish comes through
59:13and disappears in the reaction obviously of the audi crew and everybody was stunned i think they were just
59:19as stunned to see alan climb from the car i don't think anybody expected that obviously winded obviously
59:26shaken but at the same point in time out of the car on his own power and uh that was actually just
59:33absolutely spectacular see the only thing more surprising was to hear that mike rockenfeller had
59:38climbed out of his car if you have his own power as well you know if you hadn't seen those accidents
59:43before you know no one was injured neither driver spectator anything and two the biggest wrecks that we've
59:50seen is just and one of the massive massive wrecks
