00:00Aaron Glenn has already basically named Geno Smith as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.
00:11Big change, big, big change in tone or in tune, I should say, from Aaron Glenn, who seems over the
00:21moon, Joe, that Geno Smith is QB1 for New York.
00:25Yeah, again, another garbage organization that doesn't understand what it means to coach up a quarterback.
00:32This is solely a Frank Reich decision.
00:34And Frank Reich, you know, was a deer in the headlights during his days in Indianapolis.
00:39Couldn't coach up the quarterbacks then, drafted terribly.
00:43And at the end of the day, he's expected to leave the Jets offense to the promised land.
00:49This is a typical Frank Reich decision in old man Geno Smith.
00:55His street value is like a bag of avocados.
00:58He can see the punches coming.
00:59He can't get out of the way.
01:01He's led the league in interceptions for how many straight years, Kevin?
01:05And this is the quarterback that you want to ride or die with.
01:08I mean, give me a break.
01:10He's led the NFL in interceptions.
01:12Is it not one straight year?
01:15He's a turnover machine, Kevin.
01:17You asked me the question.
01:19It's not my fault.
01:20Jesus, my point is this.
01:22He is a human turnover machine.
01:25His best days came in Seattle when he took over for Russell Wilson.
01:29And that was more of Pete Carroll and that staff coaching him up than it was Geno Smith being an
01:34elite quarterback.
01:35And again, the offensive line was a concern with Justin Fields, who was a mobile quarterback last year, and Tyrod
01:41Taylor.
01:42And now you want to put a prototypical drop-back passer that needs 46 seconds to throw a football behind
01:49that offensive line and expect to compete for an AFC East championship in title.
01:54Give me a break.
01:55What are we doing?
01:57What are we doing?
02:00I don't.
02:01Yeah, it's interesting.
02:02So much there.
02:03It's why you're the best.
02:05Why are you the best?
02:06Because the offensive line was great last year.
02:08You know they were terrible.
02:10I like the offensive line.
02:12I think the offensive line can be good.
02:13I think the offensive line's got some good building blocks at the tackle positions there.
02:18Armand Membu out of Missouri is a real good player.
02:20It's just what it is.
02:22Yeah, he is, Kevin.
02:24Expect him to hit the ground running.
02:27What?
02:28This year?
02:29That's it?
02:29He's going to be an all-pro?
02:31There's no growing pains?
02:32I don't know.
02:34Olufushanu?
02:34Well, I'm just saying, you know, Eric Flowers was dominant, you know, in his days in Miami
02:40until he got to the New York Giants.
02:41It wasn't until Eric Flowers left the Giants that he actually became somewhat productive.
02:48Here's my thing.
02:49I won.
02:51I think calling it solely a Frank Reich decision is, I think it's an everybody decision in that organization.
03:00I think it's why they brought Gino in.
03:02I think Aaron Glenn is backed into a corner.
03:06See, you like to talk about teams going out there.
03:09Hey, let's get seven wins, right?
03:13Aaron Glenn, right now, if you said, hey, AG, seven wins, take it or leave it.
03:19You're like, unreal.
03:20Probably saved my job.
03:22Doubled our win total from last year.
03:24We won three games.
03:24We win seven.
03:25That's amazing.
03:26And I think their hope is bringing in Gino Smith can raise the floor for this football team on the
03:35offensive side.
03:36And I think that's possible, right?
03:40As bad as Gino was last year, Gino the two seasons prior was much better.
03:47So, is Gino completely off a cliff?
03:50I'm not sure of that.
03:53But I think maybe the bigger takeaway for me, Joe, is it solidifies something that should be true.
04:02And I think this you'll at least agree with for the Jets.
04:05They are not drafting Ty Simpson.
04:08And they are most certainly not doing it at 16.
04:11There's no way this organization is naming Gino the starter already and then going to follow this all up by
04:23drafting Ty Simpson at 16.
04:27ESPN's Rich Cimini said that he would be a little surprised if they took him at 16.
04:33The idea is the Jets are not going to have any pressure on them to take a quarterback here.
04:39Joe, I'm not telling you Gino's going to save the Jets.
04:42But if Gino stops them from drafting Ty Simpson, then I almost would already give him at least a B
04:50-level grade for his performance with the Jets this season.
