00:00As the Jets look for a new quarterback, they are going to an old friend.
00:07Once upon a time drafted by the New York Jets, Geno Smith is back.
00:15Geno coming off of his worst year as a renewed starter.
00:21Geno was not all too great as a New York Jet.
00:25Found some really good football while in Seattle.
00:30Landed with Las Vegas, was truly awful as a Raider.
00:36But for next to nothing, he gets a pretty good opportunity to be the Jets' starting quarterback this coming season,
00:44Joe.
00:45What do you make of Geno and the Jets?
00:48Well, I mean, I like the talent that they have around Geno, but they better give him 36 seconds to
00:53throw the football
00:54because he's a human turnover machine and a sack waiting to happen.
00:58We've seen that during his tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders.
01:02When the offensive line breaks down, Geno Smith is like a high school quarterback.
01:06He's like a deer in the headlights.
01:08And that's the problem when you look at this team.
01:10And again, looking and knowing that they had Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor last year, mobile guys.
01:17And now they're going back with Frank Reich, a prototypical dropback passer.
01:22Offensive line was not great.
01:24And this is going to be the offense for the New York Jets in 2026.
01:29I mean, they have no shot to be 500, Kev.
01:32I'm sorry.
01:32I just, not with Geno Smith at the helm.
01:35I'm sorry.
01:36He's old.
01:38He's at the end of his career.
01:40I mean, come on, give me anybody but Geno Smith.
01:43He's a human turnover machine, Kevin.
01:46He has led the league in interceptions almost every single year, dating back for five or six seasons now.
01:53I mean, it's pathetic.
01:56The he's old is tough for Geno because we've seen quarterbacks.
02:01Well, we just, we've seen quarterbacks hold on for longer.
02:06I understand that he is not Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers.
02:10I think that Geno Smith kind of comes in and is really the perfect quarterback.
02:17And no, because what the Jets are doing right now is being reasonable.
02:26Okay.
02:27If Geno Smith trips and falls into six or seven wins, then so be it.
02:36Maybe Aaron Glenn was a big part of that.
02:39The defense found something and then that's what it is.
02:45Right.
02:45But you can move off of Geno within four seconds.
02:49You do not have to have this fan base pretending maybe Geno's the franchise quarterback.
02:57In the way that now people in Miami are wondering about Malik Willis or the way that people are now
03:05going to wonder, we'll talk about Tua.
03:07Could you imagine that?
03:09The Jets pretending Tua was going to be their long-term guy.
03:12And if Geno is atrocious, maybe even better.
03:18Because maybe they didn't get it right with Aaron Glenn and maybe you can break free and get yourself a
03:26head coach
03:26and a franchise quarterback in the top five, top three of next year's draft class and then actually try and
03:36get yourself to the level that the Jets fans have desperately desired for quite some time, Joe.
03:43Yeah, so basically this is like, you know, the Milwaukee Bucks.
03:47We have the NBA analogy that we're going to tank until we're garbage and then just build it up like
03:53field of dreams, right?
03:54That's exactly what we're going to do.
03:56You know, the 76ers did it.
03:58Why not?
03:58Let's just tank.
03:59We get our quarterback of the future and we just build it up into the contender.
04:04They're just like, you know, Pat Mahomes in Kansas City and all the rest.
04:08No, no, no.
04:08Hold on a second.
04:09How many games did you think the Jets were going to win last season?
04:14I thought they could have been a six or a seven-win football team last year.
04:17No, you thought they could have snuck into the wild card at minimum.
04:19But that's okay.
04:20Fine.
04:20But let's be clear.
04:22Hold on.
04:23Were the Jets fans last season thinking, hey, we should get to seven or eight wins, right?
04:29Justin Fields could maybe show us something, be a franchise guy.
04:33And guess what?
04:35They won three games.
04:37The reality is, Joe, we want a world where these teams come into the season every year
04:43with the same foolish expectations, bring in someone that's going to set the franchise back.
04:49Geno Smith does not set this franchise back in any way.
04:54They won three games last season.
04:57The plan, Joe, I think we all know the plan.
05:01They will be drafting a quarterback next year in April.
05:06That's the plan.
05:07Okay, would a new head coach?
05:08Would a new head coach get?
05:09Most likely.
05:10Joe, a lot of people wanted Aaron Glenn fired.
05:13They got the coach wrong.
05:14They got the quarterback wrong.
05:16And there's no plan.
05:17No, but that's the thing.
05:17This regime didn't get the quarterback wrong unless you're a maniac who thought Justin Fields
05:24could still be a franchise guy this deep into his career.
05:27Here.
05:27Here we go.
