00:00Scott, we're going to preview the Bowman Mill. This is going to be race number six on Saturday at Keeneland, and we will start things out from the inside with a really impressive last out winner.
00:10That's Hartley, who won his only race. Really nice. He was a step slow, and then he pushed through from the rail, and he cruised for Wesley Ward with John Velasquez aboard, and he's one of two for trainer Wesley Ward, who loves to unleash really talented horses at the Keeneland meets.
00:26Sure does. He won this race last year with a runner that hasn't proven to be all that great in Long Neck Paula, so he's got two in here, I think, higher prospects.
00:37Hard to knock this horse, other than that, like you said, didn't get out of the gate all that well on the debut, and coming back on just three weeks rest, which is a little shorter than you normally would see, but a lot of talent, it appears.
00:48Just Deeds will add the Blinkers. He won his career debut, then he was well defeated in his second start when he stretched out to six furlongs. What do you think about the two in here?
00:58Well, he adds Blinkers for the first time, not a statistic kind of Johnny Ortiz, the trainer, who wins races in bunches and has not been winning a ton lately. He draws in between the two wards. It seems like a tough assignment.
01:10Scott, when I'm looking at young horses a lot of times, I'm really impressed with the horses that have shown they can sit off a bit and maybe pass horses.
01:19Even a horse like Outfielder, if you're watching his most recent race, he actually was sitting off the pace a little bit more than it might look like on the running line,
01:26and I think in a race like this, that could be very helpful if a lot of these other horses have early speed and want to go.
01:32We at least know that Outfielder, you can kind of switch him off for a second, have him sit off another horse, and then ask him to go.
01:39I think he's one of the major players in here.
01:41He was highly regarded from the get-go. They spent $8.50 for him. He's been three to five or less in his two starts in the States and won them both.
01:49My question is, he's had two outside, very comfortable, stress-free trips when he's relaxed.
01:55Now he's drawn more towards the inside. Will he be able to sit alone on the inside and relax and get dirt in his face that way?
02:01That's the question for me. I don't know if he's not going to be favored in here.
02:05I know the morning line, Nick Tamaro has hardly favored. We'll see which word takes more money.
02:11Yeah, I would actually lean towards the three. I just think he's just more of like the accomplished, proven.
02:15He's got a little bit more of a resume. We saw him go over to Deauville as well, so I wouldn't be shocked if they flip-flop on those two.
02:22Strategic Reserve is cutting back from a mile, and sometimes, Scott, that can play well in races like this.
02:27If we're looking for the horses to come from off the pace, at least we know he's got some foundation,
02:32and I wouldn't be shocked to see him being one of the horses to sit off a little bit.
02:36That's a good point. You know, what happened last race is they didn't go very quick early.
02:41He and the other favorite down at Gulfstream in a one-turn mile race down there,
02:45but that second quarter turned them both in, and it set it up for the third choice in there in that compact group of four.
02:52So maybe he'll be able to relax in here, and that will benefit him, maybe an upgrade from what I thought coming into the conversation.
02:59Spun DMC looks like another logical contender in here.
03:02He earned a nice speed figure in his only career start.
03:05He sat off a little bit before moving to the front end, and he is drawn towards the outside in here.
03:11So, I mean, he could have that same sort of trip that he had in that race where he can sit off a little bit,
03:16and then if he has to move to the front end, has to go.
03:18So, he's actually 9-5 on the morning line, so he was actually the morning line favorite.
03:23I think the two Ward horses were second and third, and, I mean, I wouldn't be shocked to see the three and the five
03:28as, like, your two choices in here, Scott. I think they both make a lot of sense.
03:32Yeah, good point. I got that, you know, this horse.
03:35You know, he was 12 and a half, over almost 13-1 on debut, Gino.
03:38I don't necessarily know if I should make too much of that, but, you know, he ran a huge number.
03:43You combine that with potential regression, I think maybe the last time was the time to have him.
03:48I agree. As we move to Gallivant, who was solid in his debut, he showed really good speed, Scott.
03:54He finished third that day, maybe just went a little quicker early on than they would have liked to go,
03:59but, I mean, when you're looking at speed figures, even though he did not win,
04:03he actually earned the highest buyer speed figure in this field of any horse.
04:08So, I mean, I would not be shocked at all with the outside draw if he was able to cross over on this field.
04:13Yeah, and this owner, breeder, L.N.J. Foxwood, they don't have a lot of horses with Ben Colbrook,
04:17but they had the damn fancy dress party with Ben, and he was successful right away, precocious.
04:24I think this horse is going to be able to relax a little bit more.
04:27Was down on the inside, was passed by a horse that I think is talented that ran a 94 buyer for top ledger.
04:32Well, if you're a fan of WWE wrestling, you know that Shawn Michaels threw a pretty nasty super kick.
04:37Scott, what are we going to do on the outside with the No. 7 super kick coming off that win at Churchill?
04:43Well, you see the surface switch and the blinkers being added.
04:46That helps, you know, seriously help.
04:48You get Saez.
04:49The question is, how wide and how much other speed will there be?
04:52I think he's, you know, 20-1, though.
04:54I can't fault somebody that might want to take a mini swing, but I think there's tough horses for him to beat.
