Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh — In a horrifying incident, a private travels bus was completely gutted in flames, killing over 25 passengers and leaving several others injured on the Chinnatekuru main road in Kurnool district early Friday morning.

The ill-fated Kaveri Travels bus (DD 01 AN 9190) was travelling from Bengaluru to Hyderabad when it suddenly caught fire. According to eyewitnesses, the blaze spread rapidly, trapping passengers inside. Locals reported that around 42 passengers were onboard, and only 12 managed to survive. A two-wheeler passing by was also caught under the bus and burned in the fire.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot but faced difficulties as the flames engulfed the vehicle entirely within minutes. The visuals from the scene showed the bus reduced to a charred shell, with thick smoke billowing from the wreckage.

Shocking details have since emerged — official records reveal that the bus’s fitness certificate expired on March 31, while its insurance and pollution certificates expired in April last year.

The bus, operated by Vemuri Kaveri Private Travels, had departed from Patancheru at 9:30 PM the previous night, picking up passengers at multiple stops in Hyderabad before heading toward Bengaluru.

Authorities have launched an inquiry into possible negligence by the travel company and are verifying whether the vehicle was operating illegally without valid documents.
