00:15Surat al-Fajr, The Dawn

00:18When Muhammad ﷺ started to spread Islam openly,

00:24the bad Quraysh leaders and rich people started to give a hard time to the new Muslims.

00:32To warn them, Allah ﷻ sent Surat al-Fajr with some examples of powerful bad civilizations

00:41who were destroyed by Allah ﷻ.

00:45Allah ﷻ starts Surat al-Fajr by taking an oath of the dawn or really, really early morning.

00:54Also, different parts of the month, even and odd numbers, and night turning into day.

01:02For wise people, these are good examples of how everything in this world works perfectly.

01:10Just like how the sun rises in the morning and sets at night, and how we can tell what day it is.

01:18Smart people understand that there must be a God who is in charge of everything.

01:26Allah ﷻ mentions different groups of bad people from our history.

01:33Some groups of people behaved well and were successful,

01:38while others were not so good and ended up in trouble.

01:45Here, we can learn the mistakes and successes from history.

01:50Allah ﷻ mentions the people of Aad who lived in the hills.

01:57They were physically well built and well known for their tall building construction with big towers.

02:08Among all the nations, they were very powerful and wealthy, which unfortunately made them arrogant.

02:17They worshipped their stone idols and they did not believe in the day of judgment.

02:25To guide those people, Allah ﷻ sent Prophet Hud ,

02:32but they did not believe Prophet Hud ,

02:36and kept doing all of their bad actions.

02:39So, Allah ﷻ decided to punish all the bad people.

02:46As a punishment, there was no rain.

02:50So, a terrible drought spread all throughout the land.

02:58Then, finally, a very heavy sandstorm killed all the disbelievers.

03:15Now, unfortunately, some people still do not learn from history.

03:20The people of Thamud also rejected Allah ﷻ and their Prophet Salih ﷺ's advice.

03:30Allah ﷻ made them the first nation in history who cut rocks to build their houses.

03:38Another example is that Allah ﷻ made Pharaoh or Fir'aun a very powerful king in history.

03:47He had a very large and strong army.

03:51But, after getting Allah ﷻ's blessing, they became very arrogant

03:59and broke Allah ﷻ's law and orders to destroy the peace with their people.

04:07So, basically, all the bad people spread crimes in their community.

04:14They thought nobody was watching them.

04:17But, they forgot that Allah ﷻ is keeping an eye on everything at all times.

04:26When the bad people cross a limit and go too far, Allah ﷻ attacks them with a big punishment.

04:38Bad people are very ungrateful to Allah ﷻ.

04:43When they have money, fancy things, and power, they feel really proud.

04:51They think they have special blessings and honor from God.

04:55But, when they don't get what they want, they feel humiliated and blame God.

05:03They think that money and power makes them important.

05:08But, they do not realize that everything they have is actually a test from the one and only God,

05:18Allah ﷻ made the people of Aad, Thamud, and Pharaoh very powerful to see if they would become

05:30grateful to God and how they would use their wealth and power.

05:36And, if some people are not so lucky with money, it is still a test to see if they will be patient

05:45with Allah ﷻ. Allah ﷻ sees how we treat orphans and poor people.

05:53It is our duty to help them with our money and wealth.

05:58But, the bad people are very greedy to become even more rich.

06:04Some of them don't even have respect for the dead people and their families.

06:11They are greedy to grab the dead person's assets and money so that they can become more rich.

06:19They think that there will be no effect for their bad action.

06:23But, Allah ﷻ will not let them go that easily.

06:29All of their good and bad actions will be judged on the day of judgment.

06:34And, that day is real and it will happen at the right time.

06:40To prepare for that day, Allah ﷻ will destroy this world into powder.

06:48On the day of judgment, they will see the Almighty Allah ﷻ and angels who will wait with discipline.

06:57They will also see the scary hellfire.

07:01And, then they will realize that the day of judgment is real.

07:06But, it will be too late.

07:09There will be no hope and way to save them except with Allah ﷻ's mercy.

07:17They will start to cry out of fear and will be sorry for their bad actions.

07:24They will wish that they did more good jobs in this world.

07:30On that day, Allah ﷻ will be very angry with the bad people and tie them very tightly

07:39to throw them into the hellfire with extreme punishment.

07:43But, Allah ﷻ will be very happy for the good people who followed Allah ﷻ's law and order, the Holy Qur'an.

07:57And, He will send their souls to paradise where they will live happily forever.

08:07Important Facts of Surah Al-Fajr

08:09Number one, the name of Surah Al-Fajr comes from the first word of the Surah.

08:18Number two, Allah ﷻ sent this Surah in Mecca when the bad people started to punish the new Muslims.

08:27Number three, Surah Al-Fajr means the dawn or very very early morning.

08:35Number four, this Surah has 30 short sentences.

08:41Number five, Surah Al-Fajr is the 89th chapter in the Qur'an.

08:47Number six, Surah Al-Fajr was sent right after Surah Al-Layl.

08:55Number seven, in this Surah Allah ﷻ takes oath in five different things.

09:03And finally, number eight, Surah Al-Fajr was the 10th Surah revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

09:11So, with all of this Qur'anic information, may Allah ﷻ help us understand the lessons of this Surah

09:21and apply the lessons into our life. Ameen.
