00:01Washi Ibn Harb
00:04Long ago in the eastern part of Africa, there was a little boy named Washi.
00:11He was from the Ethiopian Empire of Abyssinia.
00:15Just like all the other boys in Ethiopia, Washi practiced throwing spears.
00:21And the more he practiced, the more he got better.
00:26Soon, Washi was the best of the best at spear throwing.
00:31He never missed his target and that was his special talent.
00:36At the same time, many of the other Ethiopians were strong and talented.
00:42And unfortunately, many of them later became slaves, just like Washi.
00:50In Mecca, his owner was Jabair who was actually the prophet's cousin.
00:55Both Washi and his master used to be part of the bad Quraysh for a really long time.
01:04Hind was Abu Sufyan's wife.
01:07And during the Battle of Badr, Hind's father was killed.
01:11She was so mad and was going crazy, and she wanted revenge.
01:18She was looking for a talented person who could kill a powerful person.
01:25And when she found out that Washi was super talented with a spear, and he was famous because
01:33he never misses a shot, even a moving target, Hind came to him.
01:39Hind came to Washi with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
01:44A chance to be a free man so that he would no longer have to be a slave.
01:51The only thing that he would have to do is kill only one of the three people.
01:58She told him to either kill the Prophet Muhammad , Ali , or Hamza .
02:06So in the year of 625, during the Battle of Uhud, while the Muslims and the Quraysh were fighting each other,
02:16Washi was hiding behind some rocks and trees, waiting for his perfect opportunity.
02:24When he looked over to the Prophet, Washi couldn't come close to him because there were so many Sahabahs protecting him during the battle.
02:34Then he looked over to Ali , who was really good at fighting.
02:40And at the same time, he was careful by making sure no one had a chance to hurt him.
02:46Then, Washi looked at Hamza .
02:50He was so into the moment fighting against the Quraysh that he didn't pay attention off to the side where Washi was.
02:58And at that moment, Washi took his spear and threw the spear into Hamza .
03:06Killing the Prophet's uncle right away.
03:11He then walked over and he took out the spear out from his body so that he could keep it for the future.
03:19Then, Washi returned to the Quraysh army and waited to get his freedom from his terrible life as a slave.
03:29And just like Hind promised him, she freed Washi from his owner.
03:36Since Mecca was a huge city filled with many opportunities, Washi decided to stay in Mecca for many years.
03:44Around five years later, in the year of 630, the Muslims finally got their victory in the city of Mecca.
03:51When Washi found out that the Muslims were now in control of Mecca, he got scared and moved to Taif.
03:59But later, the people of Taif also became Muslims.
04:03He felt scared again, so he kept on moving because Washi still felt very guilty for what he did during the Battle of Uhud.
04:14While he was listening to the Muslims all around him, he heard that no matter how big or small a person's sin were,
04:23If a person became a Muslim, all of their sins will clear away.
04:29Hearing this, right away he traveled to Medina to meet with the Prophet.
04:35When Washi came in front of the Prophet, the Prophet asked him if he was Washi.
04:42All of a sudden, Washi got nervous and said yes.
04:47Then the Prophet asked him if he was the one who killed his uncle Hamza .
04:54At that point, Washi was so scared but understanding the situation,
05:00the Prophet forgave him for what he did to his uncle Hamza .
05:05But every time the Prophet looked at Washi, all of those terrible memories of the awful way that he died came rushing into his mind.
05:16So the Prophet requested Washi to hide his face in front of him.
05:22It was during this meeting with the Prophet when Washi finally became a Muslim.
05:29Washi didn't want to cause the Prophet any more pain.
05:33So he decided to go back to Taif and live there.
05:37While at the same time, he was trying to make up for all the bad things he did when he was a non-Muslim.
05:45Then, two years later, in 632, the Prophet of Islam took his last breath.
05:55But the bad people all around Arabia started to pretend to be false prophets and they were trying to change Islam.
06:06And the most evil false prophet with the biggest number of supporters was Musaylama.
06:13Hearing this, Washi realized with his special talent, he could stop the evil false prophet.
06:21So when Caliph Abu Bakr at the time ordered to stop the bad people at the Battle of Yamama,
06:29right away, Washi joined Khalid bin Walid's army.
06:33The battle was hard and at one point, the bad people ran away into Musaylama's garden.
06:40After the Muslim got in, Washi saw that Musaylama was trying to get away.
06:46And at that moment, Washi threw his spear that killed the evil Musaylama the liar.
06:55Because of Washi's special talent, he was known as a hero who helped save the Muslim Ummah in the Battle of Yamama.
07:04Later on, he bravely fought in the important Battle of Yarmouk to protect the Muslim Ummah from the Romans.
07:13And finally, in 660, he moved to Homs, Syria, where he later died.
07:21Looking at the story of Washi, we can see how a person can quickly go from evil to good.
07:28The same spear that once killed Hamza was the same spear that he used to kill Musaylama.
07:37This is a symbol of how Washi literally changed his life completely around.
07:44It's important to understand that throughout his life, as soon as Washi realized what he did in the Battle of Uhud was really bad,
07:53he tried to do everything he could think of to right the wrong.
07:59May Allah forgive Washi's sins and grant him the highest level of paradise.
