In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the Lord be with you.
00:20
Welcome to Mass, wherever you might be, and today we are celebrating the Feast of Saint Ignatius of Antioch,
00:28
one of the very, very early fathers of the church, who is martyred, and died around about 107, so very, very early in the church.
00:39
And so we thank God for the gift of this man, and for his fidelity, and for his courage,
00:44
and we ask God that we might enjoy something of the same kind of courage without perhaps the grisly end that he had.
00:54
And so let us stand in God's presence now and thank him, and take a moment to ask his pardon.
01:05
Lord, you are the giver of life. Lord, have mercy.
01:10
Lord, you are our companion on the journey of life. Christ, have mercy.
01:16
And Lord, you are our model of unconditional love.
01:22
Lord, have mercy.
01:25
And may Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting.
01:31
Let us pray.
01:32
Almighty, never-living God, who adorn the sacred body of your church with the confession of holy martyrs,
01:43
grant we pray that just as the glorious passion of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, which we celebrate today,
01:51
brought him eternal splendour, so it may be for us unending protection.
01:58
And we ask this through Christ our Lord.
02:04
And our first reading today is from a letter that St. Paul wrote,
02:11
The people of Philippi.
02:13
My brothers, be united in following my rule of life.
02:18
Take as your models everybody who is already doing this,
02:23
and study them as you used to study us.
02:26
I've told you often, and I repeat it today, with tears.
02:32
There are many who are behaving as the enemies of the cross of Christ.
02:36
They're destined to be lost.
02:39
They make foods into their God,
02:42
and they are proudest of something they ought to think shameful.
02:48
The things they think important are earthly things.
02:51
For us, our homeland is in heaven.
02:57
And from heaven comes the Saviour we're waiting for, the Lord Jesus Christ.
03:02
And he will transfigure these wretched bodies of ours into copies of his glorious body.
03:10
He will do that by the same power with which he can subdue the whole universe.
03:16
So then, my brothers and sisters and dear friends,
03:22
do not give way, but remain faithful to the Lord.
03:26
I miss you very much, dear friends.
03:29
You are my joy and my crown.
03:32
A word of the Lord.
03:39
And our response to the psalm today is,
03:43
The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:47
The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:51
I will bless the Lord at all times.
03:53
His praise always on my lips.
03:55
In the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
03:58
The humble shall hear and be glad.
04:00
The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:05
Glorify the Lord with me.
04:07
Together, let us praise his name.
04:10
I sought the Lord and he answered me.
04:13
From all my terrors he set me free.
04:16
The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:20
Look towards him and be radiant.
04:22
Let your faces not be ashamed.
04:25
Nor abashed.
04:26
This poor person called.
04:29
The Lord heard them and rescued them from all their distress.
04:34
The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:37
The angel of the Lord is encamped around those who revere him to rescue them.
04:42
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
04:46
He is happy who seeks refuge in him.
04:49
The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:54
And we welcome the gospel.
04:56
Alleluia, alleluia.
04:58
Lest are they who stand firm when trials come.
05:02
When they have stood the test, they will win the crown of life.
05:06
Alleluia.
05:07
The Lord be with you.
05:13
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
05:16
Jesus said to his disciples,
05:22
I tell you most solemnly.
05:24
Unless the wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,
05:28
it remains only a single grain.
05:32
But if it dies, it yields a rich harvest.
05:36
Anyone who loves his life loses it.
05:38
Anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
05:42
If a person serves me, he must follow me.
05:47
Wherever I am, my servant will be there too.
05:50
If anyone serves me, my father will honour him.
05:56
The Gospel of the Lord.
06:06
Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation.
06:08
Through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
06:10
A bread of the earth and work of human hands
06:13
and will become for us the bread of life.
06:21
By the midst of this water and wine,
06:24
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
06:28
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
06:32
Amen.
06:40
Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation.
06:43
Through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
06:46
Bread of the vine and work of human hands
06:48
and will become our spiritual drink.
06:52
Lord God, we ask you to receive this and be pleased with the sacrifice
06:55
we offer you with humble and contrite hearts.
06:58
Lord, wash away my iniquity.
07:00
Cleanse me from my sin.
07:02
Pray now, my brothers and sisters,
07:15
that my sacrifice and yours
07:16
may be acceptable to God,
07:19
the Almighty Father.
07:24
May this offering
07:26
and our homage be pleasing to you,
07:28
O Lord,
07:28
just as you accepted St. Ignatius,
07:32
the wheat of Christ,
07:35
made pure bread
07:36
through his martyrdom and passion.
07:39
We ask this
07:40
through Christ our Lord.
07:43
The Lord be with you.
07:45
Lift up your hearts.
07:47
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
07:50
It is truly right and just
07:51
our duty and our salvation
07:52
always and everywhere
07:53
to give you thanks, Lord,
07:55
Holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
07:57
For you are glorified
07:59
when your saints are praised.
08:01
Their very sufferings
08:02
are but wonders
08:03
of your might.
08:05
In your mercy
08:06
you give ardour
08:07
to their faith,
08:08
to their endurance
08:09
you grant firm resolve,
08:11
and in their struggle
08:12
the victory is yours
08:14
through Christ.
08:16
Therefore,
08:16
all creatures of heaven and earth
08:18
sing a new song
08:19
in adoration
08:19
as we,
08:21
with all the hosts of angels,
08:22
cry out
08:23
and without end
08:24
we acclaim
08:25
holy,
08:27
holy,
08:27
holy Lord,
08:28
God of hosts,
08:29
heaven and earth
08:30
are full of your glory.
08:32
Hosanna in the highest.
08:34
Blessed is he who comes
08:35
in the name of the Lord.
08:37
Hosanna in the highest.
08:38
You are indeed holy,
08:44
O Lord,
08:44
the fount of all holiness.
08:46
Make holy therefore
08:47
these gifts,
08:47
we pray,
08:48
by sending down
08:49
your spirit upon them
08:50
like a dewfall,
08:52
so that they may become
08:53
for us
08:53
the body and blood
08:54
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
08:56
At the time
08:57
he was betrayed
08:58
and entered willingly
08:59
into his passion,
09:01
he took bread
09:02
and giving thanks
09:02
he broke it,
09:04
gave it to his disciples,
09:05
saying,
09:05
take this all of you
09:06
and eat of it
09:07
for this is my body
09:09
which will be given up
09:11
for you.
09:27
In a similar way
09:28
when Sabah was entered
09:29
he took the chalice
09:30
and once more
09:31
giving thanks
09:32
he gave it to his disciples,
09:33
saying,
09:34
take this all of you
09:35
and drink from it
09:36
for this is the chalice
09:37
of my blood,
09:39
the blood of the new
09:39
and eternal government
09:41
which will be poured out
09:42
for you
09:43
and for many
09:44
for the forgiveness
09:45
of sins.
09:47
Do this
09:47
in memory
09:48
of me.
10:04
the mystery
10:08
of faith
10:09
when we eat this red
10:10
and drink this cup
10:11
to proclaim your death
10:13
O Lord
10:13
until you come again.
10:16
Therefore
10:16
as we celebrate
10:17
the memorial
10:17
of his death
10:18
and resurrection
10:18
we offer you Lord
10:20
the bread of life
10:21
and the chalice
10:22
of salvation
10:23
giving thanks
10:24
that you've held us
10:25
worthy
10:25
to be in your presence
10:26
and to minister
10:28
to you.
10:29
Humbly we pray
10:30
that by taking
10:31
of the body
10:32
and blood of Christ
10:33
we may be gathered
10:34
into one
10:35
by the Holy Spirit.
10:38
Remember Lord
10:38
your church
10:39
spread throughout
10:40
the world
10:40
bring it to the
10:42
fullness of charity
10:43
together with
10:44
Leo our Pope
10:45
Charles our Bishop
10:47
all the clergy
10:48
and the whole
10:49
of God's people.
10:51
Remember also
10:52
our brothers
10:52
and sisters
10:53
who've fallen asleep
10:54
in the hope
10:55
of the resurrection
10:56
and all who've died
10:57
in your mercy
10:58
welcome them
11:00
into the light
11:01
of your face.
11:03
Have mercy
11:04
on us all
11:04
we pray
11:05
that with the
11:06
Blessed Virgin Mary
11:07
Mother of God
11:08
Saint Joseph
11:09
her spouse
11:09
the blessed
11:10
apostles
11:10
and all the saints
11:11
who have pleased
11:13
you throughout the ages
11:14
we may merit
11:15
to be coheirs
11:16
to eternal life
11:17
and may praise
11:19
and glorify you
11:19
through your Son
11:20
Jesus Christ.
11:23
Through him
11:23
and with him
11:24
and in him
11:25
O God Almighty
11:25
Father
11:26
in the unity
11:27
of the Holy Spirit
11:28
all glory
11:29
and honour
11:29
is yours
11:30
for ever
11:31
and ever.
11:32
Amen.
11:33
Let us pray
11:34
together now
11:35
the Our Father.
11:37
Our Father
11:37
who art in heaven
11:39
hallowed be thy name
11:41
thy kingdom come
11:42
thy will be done
11:44
on earth
11:44
as it is in heaven
11:45
give us this day
11:47
our daily bread
11:48
and forgive us
11:49
our trespasses
11:50
as we forgive
11:51
those who trespass
11:53
against us
11:53
and lead us
11:55
not into temptation
11:56
but deliver us
11:57
from evil.
11:59
Deliver us Lord
11:59
we pray
12:00
from every evil
12:01
graciously grant
12:02
peace in our day
12:03
by the help
12:04
of your mercy
12:05
and always free
12:06
from sin
12:07
and safe
12:08
from all distress
12:09
as we await
12:10
the blessed hope
12:11
and the coming
12:12
of our Saviour
12:13
Jesus Christ
12:14
for the kingdom
12:15
the power
12:16
and the glory
12:16
are yours
12:17
now and forever.
12:19
Lord Jesus Christ
12:20
who said to your apostles
12:21
peace I leave you
12:23
my peace I give you
12:25
look not on our sins
12:27
from the faith
12:28
of your church
12:29
and graciously grant
12:30
her peace
12:31
and unity
12:32
in accordance
12:32
with your will
12:33
who live and reign
12:34
forever and ever
12:36
the peace of the Lord
12:38
be with you
12:39
always.
12:41
Now let us offer
12:42
each other
12:42
a sign of peace
12:43
peace now
12:44
wherever you may be
12:45
have a beautiful day
12:47
and the peace
12:47
of the Lord
12:48
is with you
12:48
Lamb of God
12:53
you take away
12:55
the sins of the world
12:56
have mercy on us
12:57
Lamb of God
12:59
you take away
12:59
the sins of the world
13:00
have mercy on us
13:01
Lamb of God
13:03
you take away
13:03
the sins of the world
13:04
grant us
13:05
peace
13:05
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world
13:25
lest for those called to the supper of the Lamb
13:28
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof
13:32
Only say the word, and my soul shall be healed
13:36
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament
13:43
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul
13:47
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, commonly, spiritually, into my heart
13:53
I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you
13:59
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen
14:03
Let us pray
14:06
May the heavenly bread we have received, O Lord, on the feast of Saint Ignatius
14:13
Renew us, we pray, and make us Christians in name and in deed
14:19
And we ask this through Christ our Lord
14:22
The Lord be with you
14:24
May Almighty God bless you
14:27
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
14:30
The Mass has ended
14:31
Let us go in peace
14:33
God bless you now
14:35
Thank you for being part of the Mass this morning
14:38
I wish you an absolutely beautiful, joyful day
14:42
Thank you for having me
