Catholic Mass Today I Daily Holy Mass I Friday October 17 2025 I English Holy Mass
Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the Lord be with you.
00:20Welcome to Mass, wherever you might be, and today we are celebrating the Feast of Saint Ignatius of Antioch,
00:28one of the very, very early fathers of the church, who is martyred, and died around about 107, so very, very early in the church.
00:39And so we thank God for the gift of this man, and for his fidelity, and for his courage,
00:44and we ask God that we might enjoy something of the same kind of courage without perhaps the grisly end that he had.
00:54And so let us stand in God's presence now and thank him, and take a moment to ask his pardon.
01:05Lord, you are the giver of life. Lord, have mercy.
01:10Lord, you are our companion on the journey of life. Christ, have mercy.
01:16And Lord, you are our model of unconditional love.
01:22Lord, have mercy.
01:25And may Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting.
01:31Let us pray.
01:32Almighty, never-living God, who adorn the sacred body of your church with the confession of holy martyrs,
01:43grant we pray that just as the glorious passion of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, which we celebrate today,
01:51brought him eternal splendour, so it may be for us unending protection.
01:58And we ask this through Christ our Lord.
02:04And our first reading today is from a letter that St. Paul wrote,
02:11The people of Philippi.
02:13My brothers, be united in following my rule of life.
02:18Take as your models everybody who is already doing this,
02:23and study them as you used to study us.
02:26I've told you often, and I repeat it today, with tears.
02:32There are many who are behaving as the enemies of the cross of Christ.
02:36They're destined to be lost.
02:39They make foods into their God,
02:42and they are proudest of something they ought to think shameful.
02:48The things they think important are earthly things.
02:51For us, our homeland is in heaven.
02:57And from heaven comes the Saviour we're waiting for, the Lord Jesus Christ.
03:02And he will transfigure these wretched bodies of ours into copies of his glorious body.
03:10He will do that by the same power with which he can subdue the whole universe.
03:16So then, my brothers and sisters and dear friends,
03:22do not give way, but remain faithful to the Lord.
03:26I miss you very much, dear friends.
03:29You are my joy and my crown.
03:32A word of the Lord.
03:39And our response to the psalm today is,
03:43The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:47The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:51I will bless the Lord at all times.
03:53His praise always on my lips.
03:55In the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
03:58The humble shall hear and be glad.
04:00The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:05Glorify the Lord with me.
04:07Together, let us praise his name.
04:10I sought the Lord and he answered me.
04:13From all my terrors he set me free.
04:16The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:20Look towards him and be radiant.
04:22Let your faces not be ashamed.
04:25Nor abashed.
04:26This poor person called.
04:29The Lord heard them and rescued them from all their distress.
04:34The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:37The angel of the Lord is encamped around those who revere him to rescue them.
04:42Taste and see that the Lord is good.
04:46He is happy who seeks refuge in him.
04:49The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:54And we welcome the gospel.
04:56Alleluia, alleluia.
04:58Lest are they who stand firm when trials come.
05:02When they have stood the test, they will win the crown of life.
05:06Alleluia.
05:07The Lord be with you.
05:13A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
05:16Jesus said to his disciples,
05:22I tell you most solemnly.
05:24Unless the wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,
05:28it remains only a single grain.
05:32But if it dies, it yields a rich harvest.
05:36Anyone who loves his life loses it.
05:38Anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
05:42If a person serves me, he must follow me.
05:47Wherever I am, my servant will be there too.
05:50If anyone serves me, my father will honour him.
05:56The Gospel of the Lord.
06:06Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation.
06:08Through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
06:10A bread of the earth and work of human hands
06:13and will become for us the bread of life.
06:21By the midst of this water and wine,
06:24may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
06:28who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
06:32Amen.
06:40Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation.
06:43Through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
06:46Bread of the vine and work of human hands
06:48and will become our spiritual drink.
06:52Lord God, we ask you to receive this and be pleased with the sacrifice
06:55we offer you with humble and contrite hearts.
06:58Lord, wash away my iniquity.
07:00Cleanse me from my sin.
07:02Pray now, my brothers and sisters,
07:15that my sacrifice and yours
07:16may be acceptable to God,
07:19the Almighty Father.
07:24May this offering
07:26and our homage be pleasing to you,
07:28O Lord,
07:28just as you accepted St. Ignatius,
07:32the wheat of Christ,
07:35made pure bread
07:36through his martyrdom and passion.
07:39We ask this
07:40through Christ our Lord.
07:43The Lord be with you.
07:45Lift up your hearts.
07:47Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
07:50It is truly right and just
07:51our duty and our salvation
07:52always and everywhere
07:53to give you thanks, Lord,
07:55Holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
07:57For you are glorified
07:59when your saints are praised.
08:01Their very sufferings
08:02are but wonders
08:03of your might.
08:05In your mercy
08:06you give ardour
08:07to their faith,
08:08to their endurance
08:09you grant firm resolve,
08:11and in their struggle
08:12the victory is yours
08:14through Christ.
08:16Therefore,
08:16all creatures of heaven and earth
08:18sing a new song
08:19in adoration
08:19as we,
08:21with all the hosts of angels,
08:22cry out
08:23and without end
08:24we acclaim
08:25holy,
08:27holy,
08:27holy Lord,
08:28God of hosts,
08:29heaven and earth
08:30are full of your glory.
08:32Hosanna in the highest.
08:34Blessed is he who comes
08:35in the name of the Lord.
08:37Hosanna in the highest.
08:38You are indeed holy,
08:44O Lord,
08:44the fount of all holiness.
08:46Make holy therefore
08:47these gifts,
08:47we pray,
08:48by sending down
08:49your spirit upon them
08:50like a dewfall,
08:52so that they may become
08:53for us
08:53the body and blood
08:54of our Lord Jesus Christ.
08:56At the time
08:57he was betrayed
08:58and entered willingly
08:59into his passion,
09:01he took bread
09:02and giving thanks
09:02he broke it,
09:04gave it to his disciples,
09:05saying,
09:05take this all of you
09:06and eat of it
09:07for this is my body
09:09which will be given up
09:11for you.
09:27In a similar way
09:28when Sabah was entered
09:29he took the chalice
09:30and once more
09:31giving thanks
09:32he gave it to his disciples,
09:33saying,
09:34take this all of you
09:35and drink from it
09:36for this is the chalice
09:37of my blood,
09:39the blood of the new
09:39and eternal government
09:41which will be poured out
09:42for you
09:43and for many
09:44for the forgiveness
09:45of sins.
09:47Do this
09:47in memory
09:48of me.
10:04the mystery
10:08of faith
10:09when we eat this red
10:10and drink this cup
10:11to proclaim your death
10:13O Lord
10:13until you come again.
10:16Therefore
10:16as we celebrate
10:17the memorial
10:17of his death
10:18and resurrection
10:18we offer you Lord
10:20the bread of life
10:21and the chalice
10:22of salvation
10:23giving thanks
10:24that you've held us
10:25worthy
10:25to be in your presence
10:26and to minister
10:28to you.
10:29Humbly we pray
10:30that by taking
10:31of the body
10:32and blood of Christ
10:33we may be gathered
10:34into one
10:35by the Holy Spirit.
