Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:18The Lord be with you and with your spirit.
00:21Dear brothers and sisters, as we gather today for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist,
00:26the Church gives us the joy of remembering St. Martin of Tours, who is a bishop,
00:32well-known figure in our earlier history as a Church,
00:35because of one particular event in his life, that while he was still a catechumen,
00:40he gave part of his cloak to a beggar.
00:43And in that same evening, he had the vision of our Lord Jesus talking with the angels
00:47and showing them the cloak that he had given to the poor person.
00:50A reminder to you and I that whatever we do to the least of the Lord's brethren,
00:56we do it to him.
00:57So we pray today for St. Martin's intercession for us,
01:01that we might not forget God's poor ones,
01:04and that we continue to pray and support them.
01:06Today is also Remembrance Day.
01:09And so I am pleased to offer this match in a special way
01:12for the eternal repose of those who have died as a result of war and conflict.
01:18Also for those who have been left behind, grieving as a result of their loss,
01:24but also for those who came back from war or conflict or service
01:28and are still carrying with them the wounds,
01:31sometimes physical, sometimes emotional or spiritual,
01:35brought about by their sacrifice.
01:37So we pray for them and for God's consolation for them.
01:41Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins
01:44and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:55Lord Jesus, you were lifted up to draw all people to yourself.
01:58Lord, have mercy.
02:01You shouldered the cross to bear our suffering and sinfulness.
02:05Christ, have mercy.
02:07You opened for your people the way from death into life.
02:12Lord, have mercy.
02:12May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
02:17and bring us to everlasting life.
02:20Let us pray.
02:23O God, who are glorified in the Bishop St. Martin,
02:27both by his life and death,
02:29make new, we pray, the wonders of your grace in our hearts,
02:33that neither death nor life may separate us from your love.
02:38Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
02:40who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
02:43God forever and ever.
02:46Amen.
02:50A reading from the Book of Wisdom.
02:54God made man imperishable.
02:57He made him in the image of his own nature.
02:59It was the devil's envy that brought death into the world,
03:04as those who are his partners will discover.
03:07But the souls of the virtuous are in the hands of God.
03:11No torment shall ever touch them.
03:13In the eyes of the unwise,
03:16they did appear to die.
03:17Their going looked like a disaster.
03:20They're leaving us like annihilation.
03:23But they are in peace.
03:26If they experience punishment as men see it,
03:29their hope was rich in immortality.
03:32Slight was their affliction.
03:34Rage will their blessing be.
03:36God has put them to the test
03:39and proved them worthy to be with him.
03:42He has tested them like gold in a furnace
03:44and accepted them as a holocaust.
03:48When the time comes for his visitation,
03:51they will shine out.
03:53As sparks run through the stubble,
03:55so will they.
03:57They shall judge nations, rule over peoples,
04:00and the Lord will be their king forever.
04:03They who trust in him will understand the truth.
04:06Those who are faithful will live with him in love.
04:10For grace and mercy await those he has chosen.
04:14The Word of the Lord.
04:21I will bless the Lord at all times.
04:24I will bless the Lord at all times.
04:26I will bless the Lord at all times.
04:29His praise always on my lips.
04:31In the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
04:34The humble shall hear and be glad.
04:36I will bless the Lord at all times.
04:39The Lord turns his face against the wicked
04:41to destroy their remembrance from the earth.
04:44The Lord turns his eyes to the just
04:46and his ears to their appeal.
04:49I will bless the Lord at all times.
04:52They call and the Lord hears
04:53and rescued them in all their distress.
04:56The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
04:58Those whose spirit is crushed he will save.
05:02I will bless the Lord at all times.
05:06Alleluia, alleluia.
05:08All who love me will keep my words
05:10and my Father will love them
05:12and we will come to them.
05:14Alleluia.
05:14The Lord be with you.
05:23A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
05:26Jesus said to his disciples,
05:30Which of you, with a servant,
05:33plowing or minding sheep,
05:35would say to him when he returned from the fields,
05:38Come and have your meal immediately.
05:41Would he not be more likely to say,
05:43Get my supper laid, make yourself tidy,
05:46and wait on me while I eat and drink?
05:48You can eat and drink yourself afterwards.
05:52Must he be grateful to the spirit?
