00:00You want to hear the full thing from Mark Schlereth?
00:04He's known as Stink, and we had a whole 20-minute conversation yesterday.
00:08At the very end of it, I'm like, hey, Juwan and Shani on the sideline, did you see it?
00:15He's like, no, I didn't see it.
00:16So we kind of described what was going on, and then here is his response to the situation.
00:23Receivers are like children, a lot of them.
00:25Not all of them, but most of them are like the diva ones are like children.
00:30One, you're completely dependent.
00:32Ten other guys have to do their job exceptionally well for you to sniff a ball.
00:37And two, you guys whine and piss and moan if you're not fed.
00:41You're just like toddlers, and it's incredible.
00:44And like I've said this many times, if you're going to whine and piss and moan,
00:48what I would like to do is take you down to one-on-one offensive line versus defensive line
00:54and let some defensive tackles put you in a guard
00:57and let defensive tackles beat the living piss out of you
01:00so that you understand what everybody else has to do for you to sniff a football.
01:05It is the ultimate team sport.
01:09And that position, to me, is the ultimate dependent in that team sport.
01:15We're all dependent on one another doing our jobs,
01:18but there's no position that's more dependent on everybody else doing their job than wide receiver.
01:23And the fact that you guys don't understand that blows me away.
01:28It just absolutely befuddles me.
01:30Boom.
01:31So there's an offensive lineman getting a tax break because he's claiming the wide receivers
01:36as dependents on the yearly.
01:40Here's what I would love and we would love to open up.
01:43Because you, the Niner fan out there,
01:45I think you can take this any direction you want that has to do with Debo Samuel,
01:50Brandon Ayuk, and Jawan Jennings.
01:53Three out of four years, three out of the last four off-seasons,
01:57we have had somewhere between major and mid-major wide receiver drama with this football team.
02:05And one of them has now moved on to a new team.
02:09Another one is suffering a major injury
02:12and has literally been described as a contract that the Niners regretted seconds after it was signed.
02:19And then the third one is the guy who,
02:22damn it, I used all year as the example of what you do want your wide receiver to be,
02:27a team player who does not care about targets and numbers.
02:31And now that person goes through contract drama,
02:35but stays and now has multiple injuries and a sideline spat to his resume
02:42as the 49ers try to get into the mid-season flow here
02:46and figure out what they want to do and see if they can make a run in the NFC West.
02:50What do we do about all this?
02:52And what do you fans sort of wish that the Niners would have or could have done with this?
02:58Do you still think Debo should be on the team?
03:00Should Brandon not be on the team?
03:03And what should they do right now in this moment with Jawan Jennings,
03:07knowing that, A, you have first-round capital in your WR1,
03:12who may be back either this weekend or never, according to Dibbs.
03:16I know, I'm exaggerating.
03:18But you have Ricky Pearsall.
03:20You signed Demarcus Robinson to a multi-year deal.
03:24There is Brandon Iyuk out there in the ethos at some point.
03:28You've brought Kendrick Bourne in off the street.
03:32He is performing at a high level.
03:34And you have two young players, one of whom is returning this week,
03:38that I'd like to encourage everyone to not forget about.
03:40They loved what they saw from Jordan Watkins in camp.
03:44And I don't know why.
03:45I've not heard the name Jacob Cowling in a month and a half, and I'm not sure why.
03:49And it may be a lost season for those two young guys,
03:52but they do factor into what's going forward after this year.
03:55So what do you do?
03:57What do you do?
03:59What do you do?
04:00How do you want this wide receiver room to be built?
04:04You want to build it the way that you should have built it in the first place,
04:07which is you bring in young players that you can mold,
04:10and you bring in free agents who are affordable.
04:12And you just mentioned the names.
04:14Like Demarcus Robinson, great team-controlled contract,
04:17and he's kind of a reclamation project based on his suspension and all the rest of it.
04:23And, you know, I do think that he can be pretty good for you.
04:26Kendrick Bourne's been amazing.
04:28And the rest of your guys, Ayuk, first round, hasn't played.
04:32Pearsall, first round, he got hurt.
04:34And I get that.
04:35And I'm not saying that he's going to be out until December,
04:37but based on that injury, the PCL, it might be longer than you think.
04:41There's some mystery to it for sure.
04:42That injury is one that if you look at it, it's behind the knee.
04:46And if he has instability, there's not a lot of ways to get re-stability unless you get surgery.
04:53And so if you look at this wide receiver group that they have, Ayuk isn't playing.
04:57Debo, you got rid of.
04:59Juwan is clearly not gruntled.
05:01He's disgruntled.
05:02And I get it.
05:03He's playing through multiple injuries, and he gets one target.
05:06And you've got all these other guys.
05:07So maybe you go about doing it the way that Shanahan did in Denver.
05:11Mike Shanahan with the running back.
05:13Oh, Landis Gary, sure.
05:16And all Mike Anderson, sir, yes, sir.
05:18And all the rest of these nobodies that you found.
05:22And like Reuben Drones was the other guy.
05:25Reuben Drones.
05:25Reuben Drones.
05:26So Mike Shanahan was like, you know what?
05:29F these running backs.
05:30I'm going to find a guy for a year or more to just come in and run behind my system.
05:35Maybe that's the way, Mark, that you start to approach the wide receiver market.
05:38Okay, there's a lot to chew on here.
05:40But first, let's let you hear what Kyle Shanahan said today with regard to Ricky Pearsall.
05:47Has Ricky's knee turned out to be more problematic than anticipated?
05:52I mean, we hoped it would go faster, but it's a thing that's normal and just taken.
05:57It's not going faster than expected.
05:59But he's better this week than last week, and hopefully it continues.
06:02Okay, so there's his answer.
06:04I don't know if you got anything definitive out of that.
06:06He doesn't sound concerned, but then again, it's questionable concern.
06:10Right.
06:11Better this week than last week.
06:12Yeah, which is, I hope so.
06:14And he said, like, you know, we thought that it would be quicker than this, but it's not.
06:19And he's better than he was last week.
06:21And so what I hear him say is that, like, don't expect him on Sunday night.
06:25Don't expect him the following Sunday.
06:27Maybe the Sunday after that.
06:29I don't know where you're getting at.
06:30You can start to think about it.
06:30I don't know where you're getting at.
06:31Where are you getting next Sunday and the Sunday after that?
06:33Based on what he's saying, he's like, you know, we were hoping it would be faster than what it's been.
06:38And, you know, he's better than what he has been.
06:41And if you look at the practice report, he's still not practicing.
06:44So it's not like George Kittle where, all right, Kittle's back.
06:47He's practicing.
06:47And you think, okay, he might be ready for Sunday.
06:51We thought that he might be ready last weekend, and he wasn't.
06:53So Kittle at least is on the field and running around and getting, quote, closer.
06:59I'm not hearing that from Pearsall, and when you look at the practice report, he's not practicing.
07:03No, I know.
07:04But to me, that's just, that's about this week.
07:06That's about this week and this week only.
07:08Like, I mean, first off, they will ease guys back in.
07:12Sometimes you don't see someone come until Thursday or Friday, but I do agree with you that it's not a good sign for this Sunday.
07:18I don't, my mind doesn't go to any other games with regard to that.
07:22I know that the next two games after this one are road games on turf, so you can factor that into your thoughts about Ricky and Brock and Mack and anyone else who's dealing with lower body stuff.
07:34Juwan, too.
07:35But at the same time, like, I think that they were hopeful of last week.
07:40That didn't happen.
07:42It's dragging on.
07:43But he said something in there about, like, this is normal.
07:46It's normal.
07:47It's a normal kid.
07:48Let me hear this again.
07:49Has Ricky's knee turned out to be more problematic than anticipated?
07:55I mean, we hoped it would go faster, but it's a thing that's normal and just taken.
08:00It's not going faster than expected.
08:02But he's better this week than last week, and hopefully it continues.
08:04Yeah, I mean, it's a good thing.
08:05We hoped he'd go faster, which tells me that they didn't think that it was so bad that he'd go on IR, which would have been four weeks.
08:11And now he's missed two games, and I would bet that he misses on Sunday.
08:14That would be three games.
08:16And so if you look at it initially, you're not thinking immediately, like, oh, God, that's an IR, boom.
08:21Like, Kittle apparently was so bad, and I don't know what the grade was.
08:25They never told us.
08:26But it was so bad that you thought, okay, that's not going to be four weeks.
08:29So, boom, you go to IR.
08:31And the other part of it is you only get, I think, eight players on IR who you can then have return.
08:37And one of them returned last week, Malik Mustafa.
08:39So you do run up against a little bit of a roster limitation, right, when it comes to, you know, how you want to juggle these guys.
08:47And I do think that's partly why Brock didn't go on IR.
08:50And if Brock was going to be out four weeks, you probably didn't want to put him on IR just in case he was ready.
08:56And you need a quarterback.
08:57In fact, if Mack gets, like, a fifth or sixth different injury.
09:00So there's a lot of different things that play into all this.
09:03He did talk about Kittle's injury as well.
09:05We'll have that for you coming up.
09:06And then I put a little something together that I'd love to unveil coming up next as well.
09:11A little list, if you will.
09:12All right.
09:12I have a list.
09:13I love a list.
09:14Well, the list is basically the top ten somewhat recent wide receiver, hmm, do I want to call it, I don't want to say misbehavior.
09:25Like, some of them just wanted money.
09:27But wide receiver, dramatic situations, and how they played out.
09:32Can we call it divanomics?
09:34If you want, but not all of them are going to deserve the diva label.
09:39Okay.
09:39You're just like toddlers.
09:40Okay.
09:40Not all of them are going to deserve that.
09:42It's not all toddler behavior.
09:44Some of it was.
09:45Some of it's just negotiation.
09:47Some of it's money.
09:48I'm not necessarily coming down these guys' roads.
09:51Here's what I am saying.
09:52Once the wide receiver goes crazy, let him go.
09:59That's it.
10:00And I'm not saying Juwan has gone crazy yet.
10:03But we are in, we're in the transition phase here.
10:08I don't know if he's gone crazy yet.
10:10I'd argue what Brandon did last year was kind of crazy.
10:14And I've been on record saying you should have let him go.
10:17The data will tell you, as soon as the receiver starts to buck, let him go.
