00:00Hey, let me ask you, we were talking about McCaffrey earlier.
00:03And let me throw this out to everybody.
00:10Let's take the rules and throw them out the window because that's boring.
00:14Like, there are rules now for all the awards.
00:17It's kind of like in the NBA, you have to play a certain number of games
00:20to be eligible for postseason awards.
00:23I don't even know the rules for comeback player of the year.
00:26But let's put together anybody who either was hurt for a good portion of last year
00:33or just stunk.
00:35And is Christian McCaffrey, I would argue, yes.
00:39Is he the favorite for comeback player of the year in the NFL?
00:44Probably.
00:45I mean, he was hurt.
00:47And not that he stunk, but he is certainly a guy who would be out there on the short list.
00:53And, you know, thinking about who else might be out there.
00:56Yeah, who are some other names?
00:57Dak Prescott.
00:58Yep.
00:59He'd be a guy, for sure.
01:02Trevor Lawrence.
01:03Yep.
01:03He did not have a good year.
01:05You know, C.J. Stroud.
01:06Right.
01:07You could throw him in there.
01:08I'm trying to think about guys who just were injured.
01:12Like, I mean, Tua missed a bunch of games.
01:14He might be on the list as well.
01:15Yeah, absolutely.
01:16Throw him in there.
01:17Tua.
01:19Boy.
01:21Yeah, you could bounce around this whole thing.
01:23Aiden Hutchinson, if you want to bring in defensive players.
01:26Right?
01:27Drake Greenlaw.
01:29I mean, there's a bunch of them.
01:31But, like, again, this is along the lines of the conversation we had yesterday.
01:37That's the way I look at it.
01:39Like, I don't go into this year like it seems so many of you do,
01:44just assuming that things are going to go horribly for Christian McCaffrey.
01:48Yeah, I don't look at it that way.
01:49What if they don't?
01:51Exactly.
01:51And I think that my way of looking at it is the prohibitive favorite.
01:56Is that things go well as opposed to things go bad.
01:59And we've got to define well.
02:00But, again, I don't think he's going to play 17.
02:03Maybe he will.
02:04But, like, if he plays 14 or more, that's a win.
02:08Yeah, even if he plays 12 or more, that's a win.
02:10And that is his career average.
02:11If you look at every season, his average is 12 games.
02:15And that's skewed a little bit by the three seasons where he got hurt
02:18and he didn't play that many games.
02:20But I think if you could look at McCaffrey, if you got 12 games
02:24and he was healthy at the end of week 18, I'd take that absolutely.
02:29And I think you still would be a playoff team.
02:31If he only played in 12 of your 17 games,
02:34I still think that's enough to where you should win enough games to be a playoff team.
02:38I agree with you.
02:40Like, I'm sort of on the search for 49er negativity and then why.
02:46And I have all kinds of openness to a bunch of the reasons.
02:51And why don't we open it up to that right now?
02:53888-957-9570.
02:55If you've got any concerns or negativity predictions for the 49er season, why?
03:03And what are they?
03:05And if your answers are things like, Willard and Dibbs, I don't know who their safeties are.
03:11Hey, Willard and Dibbs, I have no idea if Dee Winters is good.
03:16Hey, Willard and Dibbs, the middle of their defensive backfield are rookies.
03:19How the hell do we know?
03:21Hey, Willard and Dibbs, can Jake Moody kick a ball straight?
03:24You know, if you want to do all of that, that's where I think that my concerns, my questions live.
03:30What I sort of reject, just because I think it's an omnipresent thing, are the people who are like,
03:36They're not going to stay healthy.
03:38Well, how do you know?
03:39I mean, like, what NFL team's going to stay healthy all year?
03:44And isn't that something that craters a number of NFL seasons every year?
03:50And why would you think that the 49ers are any different than any other team?
03:54And don't say because they're old, because they're actually not.
03:57Well, they have some old players, the same way all NFL teams have some old players.
04:02The Niners this year, I would argue, probably present a lot more youth than they have in the past.
04:08In certain spots, but your running back, your tight end, your left tackle, those are players who are, you know, mostly older.
04:15I know McCaffrey's not even 30, but relative to running backs, he is a little bit more on the older side.
04:21So, for me, it comes down to who gets hurt and how much time do they miss.
04:26And if you go back to 2023, McCaffrey played in 16, Iyuk played in 16, Debo 15, Kittle 16.
04:35So, those were pretty much your key guys.
04:38And none of them got hurt.
04:40None of them got hurt to where they couldn't play.
04:43You had Jordan Mason play every game.
04:45Juszczyk played every game.
04:46Purdy played 16 of them.
04:47And some of those were, yeah, you're not going to play the last week of the year.
04:51Purdy was healthy.
04:52So, if you get those guys healthy again, McCaffrey, Kittle, and Trent, and Jawan, and Juszczyk, and Purdy,
05:01well, your offense should be top five, top seven in football just based on your coach and the talent that you have.
05:07All right, so let's hear this.
05:09Your boy, this is your boy now, Colin Cowherd from the Herd on FS.
05:14My boy.
05:14That's your boy.
05:14It's your boy.
05:15That's your boy.
05:16Listen to what he says, because he still says, after all of this, after all of this,
05:21he very much continues to say the Niners will not only miss the playoffs, Dibs,
05:26they're going to take that fourth place schedule that they've got and come in fourth place again.
05:32And FC West, I go Rams, Seahawks.
05:35The Niners have an easy schedule.
05:37I think they're old.
05:39I think the roster has holes.
05:40I think they wanted to keep Greenlawn Hufunga.
05:43I do think Robert Sala coming in helps.
05:45So, again, like the AFC, where I move the Bengals out, Sean Payton, I'd probably move in.
05:51I would probably move the Noisy Bears out and the Packers in.
05:54But it's very interesting because I have spent, as my staff knows, I spend considerable amount of time trying to find new playoff teams.
06:02And if I made these two changes, I'd only have two new playoff teams.
06:05New England in the AFC and Seattle in the NFC.
06:09Okay, so, yeah, exactly.
06:11New England in the AFC?
06:12Maybe.
06:13I mean, listen, I do think Drake May is going to be a player now.
06:16I really do.
06:18I think that there's a couple young quarterbacks out there who might be ready to do some really interesting things.
06:24And I think that Drake May is one of them.
06:26Let me be on record right now as saying I do not think that J.J. McCarthy is one of them.
06:31So, like, we'll see.
06:33We'll see the way this all goes.
06:34I think Drake May is a pretty good player.
06:37I think Bo Nix is going to potentially be a special player.
06:40I think J.J. McCarthy is really going to struggle this year.
06:43We'll see if I'm right, wrong, the otherwise.
06:45What I argue with Colin here is what I find to be, this is my opinion, I think that this is a factual inaccuracy that I continue to hear.
06:57Quote, the Niners are old.
07:01No, they're not.
07:03Trent Williams is.
07:05Where else?
07:07That's one guy.
07:08Where else are they old?
07:10Name me one spot where they're, quote, old.
07:13I mean, what constitutes old?
07:16I don't know.
07:17I don't know what constitutes old.
07:19If you're going to give me Fred Warner and George Kittle, I would argue that, sure, they're veterans.
07:24They have shown, to this point, very little sign of age.
07:28You're allowed to predict that they will this year.
07:31And maybe you'll be right.
07:33I don't know.
07:34But if I'm looking around at NFL teams, talk to me about old.
07:39Sure.
07:40Trent Williams.
07:41Receiving core?
07:42Just got younger.
07:44Quarterback?
07:44Super young.
07:45Their punter is 39.
07:47Okay, their punter is 39.
07:48Thomas Morstead.
07:49Well, that'll kill you.
07:50Your quarterback is 34.
07:51You just rocked two defensive tackles who are babies.
07:55Your cornerbacks are incredibly young.
07:58You're going to go with Lenore, Renardo Green, maybe Upton Stout.
08:02Maybe you're going to argue that's a bad thing.
08:04That's fine.
08:05But that's not old.
08:07Nick Bosa is not old.
08:09I don't know.
08:10Bryce Huff.
08:11They're not old.
08:13Trent Williams is old.
08:15Trent Williams is old.
08:17And as much as people say Christian McCaffrey's old, as you said, he's not even 30 yet.
08:22He's not even 30 years old yet.
08:24So, I don't know, man.
08:25I don't think the Niners are that old.
08:27I think they've got question marks, but it's not based on age.
08:29Agreed.
08:30And if you look at the ages, and I'm looking at the roster, your long snapper and your punter are 39.
08:35Then you get to Trent at 37.
08:37Okay, that could be a problem.
08:40Your fullback is 34.
08:42Your center, Jake Brendel, is 33.
08:44But beyond that, Kittle at 32.
08:47And then you really have to kind of scroll deep to find the next guy, McCaffrey, at 29.
08:52Among your expected regular players, Juwan is 28.
08:57These are guys who are not, in my opinion, yet old for the National Football League.
09:04I don't know where we went.
09:05Why did we get here?
09:06Because they lost the Super Bowl, resigned a bunch of people, and so therefore we're like,
09:10it's like this thing that you hold around the Niners.
09:13Oh, you resigned all of your people, so therefore you're overly leaning into veterans.
09:19Well, they very frustratingly this offseason did the opposite.
09:23They got rid of a bunch of veterans, replacing them with young people, yet here we are still calling them old.
09:29Do you all think the Niners are old?
09:31No, they're not old in general.
09:32I don't think the Niners are old.
09:33If you look at Kittle and Trent Williams, north of 30, and a running back 29, those are definitely ones to keep an eye on.
09:41I mean, but here we are loving, oh, but the Rams are his sexy pick, and their quarterback has a back injury and is late 30s.
09:48Okay.
