00:00We're in Seoul for 48 hours and you already know the first stop, Korean barbecue.
00:04After an awesome 10 days in Japan, we landed in Seoul, South Korea.
00:08We really enjoyed our flight on Korean air and the vibes got us excited to explore the city.
00:13This may also go down as one of our best airport experiences.
00:16We got through security, got our checked bag, got our train ticket,
00:20and are boarding the train non-stop express to Seoul in like under what, 20 minutes?
00:25Very fast.
00:26Very fast. Loving you already, South Korea.
00:28Seoul has been high on our list of places to visit and we had high expectations for the social city
00:34with delicious food and lively culture. Thankfully, Seoul did not disappoint.
00:39We are in love with this city and Lauren is officially addicted to K-dramas.
00:43Here's everything we got up to in Seoul for 48 hours, starting with the famous Korean barbecue.
00:50They gave me this bag. I knew she would do it.
00:52She would have pulled on to sleep in my jacket, so I'm assuming she wanted me to take it off, but I don't know.
00:58The beat.
00:59Once we sat, all the dishes immediately started coming out. We didn't think we ordered that much,
01:04but dish after dish was delivered until finally the main attraction arrived. Usually you grill these
01:09up yourselves, but I guess we looked like we needed some help. We started with the best cut of steak,
01:13which was out of this world. Then it was on to round number two and round three. This was the best first
01:21meal we could have asked for in Seoul. After dinner, we headed across town to Myeongdong and if you thought
01:26that we would be full from that dinner, you thought wrong. We got bingsu from Seoul Bing. This is the
01:32king mango ice and it's basically like a milk-shaped ice with a whole bunch of toppings. This thing is like
01:39the size of my head. It's huge, but it looks so delicious and I cannot wait to dive in.
01:47We are extremely full now, so we're going to walk it off around the Myeongdong district. Looks like a
01:52really lively area. Lots of shops, bright signs, bright colors, loud people, total contrast to Japan.
02:00So we're looking forward to exploring. Let's go.
02:02This area is known for its casual eateries and luxury shopping, but it's most popular for foreign
02:09tourists by being a great place to buy Korean skincare products. And if you're looking to stock up,
02:14this is the motherland. The really great benefit of shopping in this area is that a lot of the
02:17stores are tax-free, so you give them your passport and they take the tax off right there. I am going
02:22wild over all of these Korean skincare stores. Garrett keeps getting annoyed and leaving me.
02:28Oh, here she goes again. I'm having a great time. I just keep going to all the snack stores and eating all the food.
02:38It's good. It's a really cool area to walk around. We're really just enjoying our first
02:41evening here in Seoul. So far, we're Seoul impressed.
02:51Okay, so this place... What's the name of it?
02:54This morning, we're exploring Jungbukong Palace. That's probably not how you pronounce it,
03:01but that's where we are this morning. Gyeongbokgong. Gyeongbokgong. Gyeongbokgong.
03:07Looks pretty nice. Gyeongbokgong Palace is probably one of the most iconic landmarks in Seoul. Built in 1395,
03:14this place was once the heart of the Joseon Dynasty and the center of Korean culture. Today,
03:19it's a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, history, and architecture. To get into the
03:24palace, it costs 3,000 Korean won per person. However, if you dress in traditional Korean clothing,
03:30you can get in for free and I feel like that was a missed opportunity for Myanmar.
03:36It's raining pretty hard here right now, but this place still is beautiful even in the rain.
03:40All this exploring is making us hungry. Let's go get some food and coffee. If you're near the Gyeongbokgong
03:50Palace, we highly recommend this coffee shop. Up next, we're going to go get some Michelin guided
03:57dumplings and noodles. This place opens at 11 a.m. We got here around 1045. There's already a line and
04:03people are storming in, so I'm really excited to try this. We're next. I can see all the food. It looks so good.
04:18I hit my head again.
04:24So we are sitting upstairs, which means we get to sit on the floor. Here it's like flexibility
04:29continues to be a problem in Asia.
04:33We're going to get to sit on the floor.
04:35These dumplings are huge.
04:41Delicious.
04:43The floors are heated. It's the perfect meal for a rainy day.
04:49Those noodles were so delicious. Those jumbo dumplings and the hand cut noodles, both were
04:54absolutely incredible. We are once again super full, so we're going to go walk around the Hunok village next.
05:00On the way to Hunok village, there are a lot of shops to browse through and Lauren found more skin
05:05care products. Hunok village is a residential area consisting of traditional Korean housing that used
05:11to be occupied by government officials during the Joseon dynasty. This is a beautiful area to walk
05:17through in Seoul. Just remember to be quiet. You have to whisper here, but we're in the Hunok village,
05:24Picture Street, and it's very beautiful. ASMR Whisper Street.
05:29We stopped to get some coffee at Mass Coffee, and these coffees are ginormous.
05:40I was not expecting it. Mass stands for massive.
05:42They're big coffees. Cheers.
05:45We tried to go to Cafe Onion, but the line was crazy, and I know it's been all over the internet,
05:50and I feel like it's probably a little hyped up. If you've been and it's not hyped up and it's
05:54actually that great, let me know. This coffee is really good, and it's right next to it,
05:58so if you also decide to tap out on the Cafe Onion line, we recommend this place.
06:04You've probably noticed by now that our 48 hours in Seoul consists of a lot of food. We're headed to
06:09the Gwangjang Market to try some of Korea's best street food, and just really excited.
06:14I've saved a lot of room in my stomach for this, so we're going to get a lot of good food,
06:18and take you along with us. Tokboki. Tokboki. Lauren's excited for the tokboki. Tokboki.
06:23I'm excited for the gimbap. I'd just like to say it. Tokboki. Whoa.
06:30I was so excited for the tokboki. I've been watching this K-drama, and they talk about tokboki
06:35like every episode, but it was a total disaster. I was dropping it everywhere.
06:40It didn't get to the room. They just focused on eating it. It's so cool.
06:46All right. I had my chopsticks upside down. The sauce went everywhere. I splashed it on
06:50Garrett's legs. It got on his pans, but it was so delicious, and it totally lived up to the hype.
06:55I was thinking that I wasn't going to like it because I don't traditionally like the rice
06:58cake stuff. It's like the really chewy, but it was perfect. The texture was amazing.
07:03You really have to give it a try. Get some gimbap to dip in the sauce. If you won't regret it.
07:13Up next.
07:24This mung bean pancake.
07:26It's like a hash brown with some legumes in it. That like crunchy outer hash brown. It's very good.
07:39Good morning. It's our final day here in Seoul before we travel back to the United States.
07:44Today, we're going to head to the Hongdae area to do some shopping and hang out at some cafes.
07:49All right. We were leaving the station, and the smell of these like literally just drew me in.
07:57They look delicious. We got it in an assorted mix. I think they're like pancake or waffle batter
08:01filled with like red bean, peanut, cheese. She gave us an assortment, but I'm going to snack on these
08:06while we walk around because none of the coffee shops really open until about 10 o'clock here.
08:09So riding the subway is actually pretty simple. To get around Seoul, we recommend you download the
08:17Naver map app. It's similar to Google Maps, but works a lot better in Seoul. It will tell you how
08:22long it takes to get from place to place and what subway line to take. The kiosk and subway station have
08:28English translations, so if you don't know the local language, you can still get around.
08:32First stop was Cafe Grange. This joint had some great coffee, good vibes, but if you're a tall king
08:42like me, watch your head. Second stop was this Hanuk style cafe. I knew this place was good when all the
08:49Instagram girlies were waiting outside. This place was very unique and even had views overlooking a
08:54courtyard. The coffee was on point. A few other cafes we recommend in the Hongdae neighborhood is this
09:00Harry Potter themed cafe and a cartoon and PC cafe. So Seoul has some amazing coffee shops and all the
09:07food and coffee is delicious. All right, we just got back to our hotel room. We got to pack up and head
09:11to the train. We're signing off here. We had a great time in Seoul, but now it's time to head back home
09:17home and go back to work. See you guys in the next video. Bye!
