00:00This video is part two of the Kyoto Travel Guide series showcasing the bamboo forest,
00:04a must-visit coffee shop, and the Nishiki Market. If you missed part one of the Kyoto Travel Guide,
00:10make sure to click this link to watch that video where we visited Fushimi Inari, Ninenzaka Street,
00:15and went to a ramen cooking class. Here is part two of the Kyoto Travel Guide.
00:22We're in a bit of a hurry this morning. We woke up really early to head to the bamboo forest to try
00:26to get there before it's crazy crowded, and the cab's on the way.
00:30See a place that's supposed to be magical, but we've heard that the crowds could ruin it,
00:34so hopefully it's early enough that we can view it without thousands of people around us.
00:39It's currently 645, so I feel like we'll beat most people, you know? Not crazy early,
00:44but clearer than the average Joe would get up. Maybe let's say that.
00:51I'm excited to see the bamboo forest. I'm scared to see the monkeys though.
00:54I got this umbrella so I can find them all.
00:57Waking up early paid off. There's only a few people here at the bamboo forest,
01:01and it is just beautiful walking through here, hearing the birds chirping, and just seeing how
01:06tall these bamboo stalks are. It's incredible. Got there at like 7 15, and it was about perfect,
01:12but we're leaving. It's about 8 a.m. now, and it's already pretty packed, so I feel like a lot of
01:17people are going to be upset that they didn't get here earlier. I, for one, was trying to get my wife
01:21to wake up earlier, so I'm in the winning bracket for today. Okay. We're headed out of the bamboo forest.
01:28We got through it a lot quicker, I think, than we originally thought we would, so we're going to
01:31find a local coffee shop to get some food and a cup of coffee, and on the agenda for today,
01:36we're going to the Muskegee Market, which is this great local market with a bunch of good food,
01:40so that's our plan for lunch, and then we have to hop on a train, and we're headed to Osaka today.
01:45I'm not sure what I was expecting when they said fruit sandwich, but I don't think this was it.
01:59Looks good, though. Very aesthetically pleasing. And I just spilled on my pants.
02:08The aftermath. If you're near the bamboo forest, you have to check out this coffee shop. The coffee
02:12is so good. Their food was delicious, and I believe the now owner said his grandfather opened the shop,
02:17so it's pretty sweet. All right, we're outside of the market. We got here early, so I don't think
02:24all of the places are open just yet. We're going to walk through, watch them set up, and hopefully
02:28scout out some places to eat. I put all the coins down deep. First up is the shrimp tempura for 500 yen.
02:34Oh, that steam. So good. So fresh. Really crunchy. Tempora didn't get soggy. That's a huge shrimp. Oh my gosh.
02:45That shrimp is good, but it's still like 9.45, so I'm on the hunt for some Japanese egg omelet dish.
02:51They are so moist and fluffy, and I got to figure out how to make my eggs that good.
02:55I got this beautiful Japanese omelet freshly prepared this morning. Look how fluffy it is.
03:00It was only 290 yen, and it looks delicious. I'm not too good with chopsticks, though.
03:07I'm going to have to abort the mission and just use the old hands.
03:12It's so good. It's just so light and fluffy. Up next, we got this juicy chicken thigh roll for 700 yen.
03:22The meat is so tender, and it's so juicy, and it's marinated in like a soy sauce kind of broth. It
03:27has like a salty, tender taste. It's so good. The thing that really impressed me about the chicken
03:31thigh roll is it actually wasn't super fatty. It was pretty lean. It was very juicy because it was
03:36dark meat, but it wasn't like huge pieces of fat or anything like that. Mmm, good.
03:44Gonna eat some eel nigiri at 10 a.m. Coming out fresh, so a couple minutes.
03:52I'm excited. Got this eel nigiri for 400 yen. It looks so good. Oh, that's fine. Fresh and juicy,
04:01and it's glazed perfectly. Could we just do one yuba? Okay, up next, we have this yuba, or tofu skin,
04:07for 350 yen. Gear them in there. I really want to try these port gyoza, but I don't know when they're
04:15gonna open, and we're headed that way, so I don't know how much longer we can stall in this area of
04:20the market. Just poke your head under there and ask them. I got this yuzu and honey drink for 350 yen.
04:30It's so good. For those of you that don't know, yuzu is a Japanese lemon. This one. This is the best
04:35of the game. They were out of the full octopus, so we got this octopus arm for 400 yen. It looks interesting.
04:45A little slimy at first, but it's pretty good. Still chewing. It tasted good once you got past the
04:51little suckers things, you know, like the little sticky stuff. You can get a piece of sweet potato.
04:58Moki with red bean and a strawberry. Last but not least is this strawberry mochi for 350 yen.
05:05Oh, we're gonna drink. We're gonna drink. We're gonna drink first.
05:09A lot of food?
05:10Mhmm.
05:15Before we left, we had to stop by the capsule toy shop,
05:18and I got a little Mario show. Let's go.
05:21Okay, this wraps up our time at the Nishiki market and our 48 hours in Kyoto.
05:26So we're gonna go back to the hotel, pack up, and catch our train to Osaka.
05:30We're gonna do another food tour and then go to Universal so we can see Super Nintendo World.
05:35So we'll see you there.
05:36Bye.
05:38Bye.
05:48Bye.
05:48Bye.
