00:00The United Nations Development Program reported that the reconstruction of the gas strip will
00:17require 70 billion dollars, of which 20 billion will be needed over the next three years.
00:28In Venezuela, during the meeting of the National Consuls for Sovereignty and Peace, the Secretary-General Jorge Rodriguez
00:33affirmed that the media has the responsibility of showing and defending the truth and reality
00:39of the country.
00:44Bolivia is experiencing the final days of election campaigning ahead of the unprecedented presidential
00:49run-off election to be held on October 19th between the right-wing candidates, Rodrigo
00:55Paz and Jorge Quiroga.
01:02Hello, welcome to From the South.
01:07I'm Sophie Fernandez from the TELSOR Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:10We'll begin with the news.
01:11Stay with us.
01:33The United Nations Development Program reported that the reconstruction of the gas strip will
01:37require 70 billion dollars, and of that amount, 20 billion will be needed over the next three
01:43years.
01:44The organization highlighted the existence of very favorable indicators regarding the funding
01:49allocated to this task.
01:51The organization estimates that the territory has accumulated at least 55 million tons of
01:56debris, representing an unprecedented logistical challenge.
02:00The government information office in Gaza reported that the Israeli occupation forces dropped more
02:05than 200,000 tons of explosives on the territory.
02:09In over 24 months of aggression, Israel totally or partially destroyed some 500,000 homes in the
02:15Palestinian enclave.
02:17For its part, Israel announced that it will limit the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza of 300 trucks per day,
02:31starting on Wednesday, half of what was agreed upon, and will keep the Rafah crossing close,
02:37exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the territory.
02:40This decision also includes a ban on the entry of fuel and gas, except for specific humanitarian
02:46infrastructure needs, in a context of famine and tensions in the ceasefire agreement with the
02:51Palestinian-resistant movement Hamas.
02:53On Monday, the crossing from Israel remained closed, although the UN collected supplies inside
02:59Gaza, according to Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq.
03:03The UN has previously denounced obstacles to aid distribution, attributed to Israel and local
03:09anarchy, where recent data shows that much of the aid is stolen by multitudes of armed groups.
03:23Meanwhile in Italy, police forces used tear gas to repress the demonstration in support of Palestine,
03:28which was attempting to breach the stadium where Israel was playing a qualifying match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
03:35The protesters demanded an end to the normalization of sports relations with Israel
03:40and its expulsion from international competitions amidst the genocide in Gaza.
03:45In the face of such an event, the city was shielded by a major security cooperation
03:50that included the presence of Israeli Mossad agents.
03:53The match was classified as a high risk, and the Zionist regime's team was kept in a place
03:58under exceptional surveillance.
04:08In other news, the United States Senate faded on Tuesday for the eighth consecutive time
04:12in its attempt to approve a temporary funding resolution to end the partial shutdown of the federal government,
04:18which has now been in effect for 14 days.
04:22This afternoon's vote in Washington ended with 49 senators supporting the measure and 45 rejecting it,
04:29well below the 60 votes required to advance the proposal.
04:33The measure, crafted by Republicans and already cleared by the House of Representatives,
04:38would have kept the government agencies operating until November 21.
04:43Democrats, however, blocked it unanimously, arguing it failed to provide a long-term commitment
04:49to funding public health protections and the Affordable Care Act, both of which faced funding cuts this year.
05:02Meanwhile, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, threatened to impose tariffs on countries
05:06belonging to the BRICS group after accusing them of attacking the dollar's hegemony in the global financial system.
05:13The U.S. President stated that the BRICS Association represents an attack on the dollar's hegemony in global finance,
05:19and announced that he would impose sanctions on the group's member countries,
05:23in an attempt to pressure the nations to abandon the bloc.
05:26During the first day of the summit, the leaders of the economic bloc rejected the protectionist measures and tariff policies promoted by the U.S. government,
05:35giving empathic support to multilateralism and rejected protectionism.
05:40On Tuesday, in the United States, Congressional Democrats gathered.
05:55On breaking news, we are going to go live to Venezuela.
06:03Venezuela.
06:32The reformation of security in the capital region is taking place.
06:47Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, called it a lie and illegal for the White House to use the shutdown to impose mass layoffs.
06:54The Democrats stood behind people that held signs printed with budget director Russ Brodsface
07:00and his quote about wanting to put federal workers in trauma.
07:04Democrats have focused on trying to keep Affordable Care Act subsidies from expiring for millions of U.S. citizens,
07:11who pushes insurance on Obamacare exchanges.
07:14Meanwhile, without this federal support, costs are respected to soar across the healthcare economy.
07:20The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said that the economic and political survival of Javier Millet's government in Argentina
07:35depends on his ability to guarantee an electoral victory and maintain his alignment with the White House.
07:41In a meeting with his counterpart, Javier Millet held at the White House, the U.S. President stated, in a clear interference in internal affairs,
07:50that economic support for Argentina is conditional on the victory of the forward president in the upcoming October 26 elections.
07:58Trump praised Millet's management but made it clear that any additional support depends on the alignment with Washington.
08:25On breaking news, we are live in Venezuela, where the government is reinforced,
08:38where the regional government is reinforced security measures in the context of increasing U.S. aggressions to the national territory.
08:47We will see more information from the local studies in Venezuela.
08:51We are facing some communications issues. We will be right there, to Caracas, Venezuela, where the government is increasingly preparing for…
09:10where the government is increasingly preparing for the defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity in the country amid the context of increasing U.S. aggressions.
09:26We will see images of the soldiers being prepared in the different zones of regional security and regional preparedness.
09:39We are going to see…
09:41Well, we are going to go back to the regular programming because we just lost track about what's going on in Venezuela,
09:46but we will be right back with more news from Caracas.

10:02Welcome back to From the South.
10:19On Tuesday, the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace of Venezuela held a meeting with the media, led by Secretary Jorge Rodriguez.
10:27During the event, Rodriguez affirmed that the media has the responsibility of showing and defending the truth and reality of Venezuela.
10:36In this context, the Secretary-General called for the defense of the peace of the communications war that is being waged against the country from abroad.
10:44He also urged the creation of a media chapter within the Council, emphasizing that regardless of where each person stands on the political spectrum,
10:52what really matters is defending Venezuela.
10:55the peace of the peace that we have to defend,
11:00the peace that we have to defend.
11:02It is a way, and that's why we are doing this calling to you,
11:10of defending the truth, of taking care of the truth.
11:14When they come here, they find themselves in a country that is in peace,
11:20a country that is peaceful.
11:22But the peace that we have to defend and that we have to take care of can't be a peace that makes us unmovable,
11:33or a peace that puts us at the mercy of the lies that generally come through social media.
11:42In this sense, the Secretary-General of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, Jorge Rodriguez, asserted that all of the aggression of the U.S. Empire is based on lies.
11:57All of this aggression on the part of the most powerful empire and the most aggressive one that the humanity has known in its history,
12:09is based on lies, in insults, in saying things that they do not stand the minimum analysis that anyone wants to do,
12:26because there the objective is not to look for the truth.
12:34Likewise, Jorge Rodriguez reiterated that if the U.S. government wanted to combat drug trafficking,
12:39it should start by tackling the large-scale laboratories operating within the zone borders
12:44that are responsible for the opioid epidemic.
12:49of combating the war and fighting drug trafficking,
12:54they could listen to the analysis that the New York Times just posted
13:01when they point out the truth that had already been signed by the President Nicolás Maduro
13:07and the Vice President Nelson Rodriguez that 85% of the drugs that reaches the United States
13:12goes through the Pacific and they should be happy, the drug traffickers of Ecuador,
13:20starting by its President and the drug traffickers of Peru, of the American Republic, of Colombia and of Mexico,
13:27because the action in the Caribbean Sea and the threats in the Caribbean Sea
13:34and on all of the countries of the Caribbean region, especially on Venezuela,
13:39it just opened the path for drug trafficking that curiously one wonders
13:46why is the United States of America fighting drug trafficking
13:53dozens of kilometers away from their territory if the consumption happens in their territory,
13:59if the United States citizens addicted to drugs don't go to the Caribbean
14:04or don't come to Venezuela or don't go to another country,
14:08the cocaine, they sniffed it in the United States of America.
14:15If there was...
14:28In Brazil, during the preparatory conference for COP3, Venezuela retaliated its commitment to climate justice
14:34and the right to development despite the imperial war threats the country faces.
14:39During the event, Caracas warned of the consequences that could come from limiting developing countries' use of fossil energy
14:45and denounced the effects of the unilateral coercive measures on the capacity to confront the impacts of climate change.
14:52It also maintained that the results of the group's first global assessment should not impose those conditions on national policies, financing or technology transfers.
15:01It is important to note that COP30 will take place between November 10 and 2021 in the city of Belem, in the state of Para, Brazil.
15:10Meanwhile, the Honduran Secretary for Risk and National Contingency Management, COPECO, extended the relator in the central district for 24 hours due to heavy rains that have caused 12 deaths and affected almost 11,000 people in the country.
15:29The measure announced on Tuesday, October 14, affects Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, regions severely impacted by the rainfall that is hitting several areas of Honduras.
15:41According to an official statement from COPECO, the alert, which implies immediate evacuation, was extended until Wednesday due to a surface drought and a low-pressure system in the Caribbean Sea, interacting with a tropical disturbance in the Pacific Ocean.
15:56These alerts will be in effect for a period of 24 hours, started at 12 noon local time on Tuesday, October 14.
