Tropical Storm Lorenzo won't be a threat to anyone, but forecasters are closely watching a tropical wave that could be headed toward the Caribbean.

00:00We still have a lot going on in the Atlantic. So let's talk about the current threats,
00:04especially to us here in the U.S. So Lorenzo is on the map. That is not a concern for any landmass.
00:12Just showing you, we've checked off the L name on the list for the year. But we do have a tropical
00:17wave that we're tracking as well. So first look at Lorenzo and why I'm saying it's not a concern
00:21to any landmass. A little bit of an odd path that it's taking, but stays at tropical storm status.
00:28I will say it's struggling right now, fighting in some wind shear and not doing the best. But
00:33again, not necessarily something we need to be concerned about. Here's what you do want on your
00:38radar, though. We're tracking that tropical wave I showed you. That is where we're highlighting a
00:43low chance of development, the 19th and 23rd. So that's this weekend through about mid next week.
00:49I'm calling this a Goldilocks scenario. Let's walk through exactly why I'm saying that. So
00:54on our wind shear map, I have a bubble. This is where our tropical wave is. And if you remember,
00:59the darker purple on this map, that's higher, stronger wind shear. Light purple, that's what
01:04the tropical wave wants. Strong wind shear that is not going to help it strengthen, develop to a named
01:10storm. So it's fighting some of that right off the bat. And if it goes a little too far north,
01:16well, it sees more strong wind shear. If it goes a little too far to the south, there's more of that
01:20dark purple peeking in. But also, if it goes too far to the south as it works its way across the
01:25Atlantic, it runs into South America. That's not going to help its development either. So it has
01:29to be in just the right location for just the right amount of time to strengthen to a named storm. So
01:35here's how that might happen if it's going to overcome some of those conditions and move in
01:41exactly the right location. So through Friday, not really a concern. It stays unorganized. However,
01:46we're really going to watch this weekend. If it gains just a little bit of latitude, again, not too
01:50much, then it could strengthen and start to get a little bit more organized. Next week, if it's
01:56going to become a named storm, that's when it's going to happen. Melissa's the next name on the list.
02:00Late next week, though, there's a fork in the road, as there often is. If it moves its way into the
02:04Caribbean, then we have a problem for the U.S. To the north, though, that dip in the jet stream should
02:09protect us. For expert in
