00:00In the tropics, the only show in town is Fernand, and it's not getting a whole lot of eyeballs right now.
00:05It does not look like there's any deep convection with this right now.
00:09It's a low-level swirl, and again, it's racing east-northeast at 15 miles per hour.
00:14Maxistain wins 50 miles per hour, but here's one trough that diverted it east.
00:18There's another trough behind that. It'll be another blockade for the east coast.
00:21So Fernand has no real future as it's moving farther northeast into colder and colder water.
00:27The current tropical wave moving west of Africa is fairly robust, but there's a lot of very, very dry air across the eastern Atlantic.
00:36It really resembles more of a July-like pattern when we have this dry, dusty Saharan air.
00:41It mitigates any real tropical threats here.
00:45That dry, dusty air just kind of chews apart and evaporates a lot of the convection here and prevents it from occurring.
00:51So the moisture is going to be limited as these tropical waves move out into this region.
00:55And looking at that Saharan dust here through tomorrow and into Friday, there's a little bit of a reduction northwest of Cabo Verde Islands here,
01:03or the Cabo Verde Islands, but for the most part, still some unusually significant amounts of Saharan dust migrating west across much of the Atlantic
01:13here during a time of year where we don't usually see much of this,
01:16as typically we're dealing with these tropical waves developing into tropical storms out that way.
01:20So this is good news. If there's any development between now and Labor Day,
01:24it would come out of this slow-moving area of low pressure near Florida, crossing the peninsula over the course of the weekend.
01:31So the only potential zone of development would be around Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday off the southeast coast.
01:37If we don't see a new storm develop, a named storm by Labor Day,
01:42Fernanda's going to be long gone.
01:43It'll be the first time we have back-to-back years without a named storm in the Atlantic on Labor Day since 1991 to 92,
01:50because we didn't have one last year either.
