00:00Hi I'm Garrett and this is my wife Lauren. We are spare time travel vloggers on a
00:04six-week adventure through India, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. Over the next five
00:09days we'll be exploring northern India's famous tourist triangle. Now we're in
00:14Jaipur. This place is crazy. We're gonna attempt to cross this street to go to one
00:18of those cafes up there and get a better view.
00:22All right we just had a very long drive from Agra to Jaipur. It was like over
00:27five hours probably with multiple stops could have been a little bit quicker.
00:31We pulled up at this rest stop and used the bathroom and our driver's just inside
00:37eating an entire meal. We're chilling. Life's good. There's some other
00:45tourists in the cab back there too. He just walked in like he was just like okay
00:49we stopped here and he just went in and started eating and we haven't seen him in
00:53like ten minutes. Hopefully we get to a Jaipur soon. We're like two hours out.
01:01But we are staying at the Jaipur Marriott Hotel mainly because we had a bunch of
01:05points to use and it was close to the airport but we just arrived but we're
01:09gonna go walk to the Patrika Gate. It's all lit up in the evening it's supposed to
01:13be beautiful so we're just gonna go look at it take some photos and then have a
01:16lazy evening before we go explore tomorrow so we're super excited to share it with
01:20you guys. But first we've got to make it across this busy street in one piece.
01:26I already really really like this city. It's pink, it's pretty, and first
01:54impression say it might be my favorite city in India so far. But I really like
01:59it. This place is staying kind of busy. There's a lot of people doing like photo
02:02shoots but we tend to find that things are like not crowded early in the morning.
02:07So we'll probably try to come back around like 7 a.m. and see if we can maybe enjoy a
02:12little bit more peacefully. But it's been really great. We've been nice.
02:15I'll have to take pictures for us and been friendly so yeah it's good. But I think we're
02:19gonna call it evening and I'm excited to explore a day for tomorrow.
02:24Hello hello. We're headed again in an Uber and we're going to the city palace this
02:30morning to explore. It's supposed to be pretty and pink and the royals used to
02:34live there. Yeah. We're in a tuk tuk now. We're headed to the palace.
02:52Like every time you get on the road here you gotta say a quick prayer to make sure you're
02:55here to get where you're going to live.
03:05All right we got our tickets to the city palace. They're a thousand rupees per person
03:10which gets you access to the museum and the palace courtyards. We were laughing when we
03:14got up there because there's a sign that says shooting ongoing in the palace.
03:18Please avoid like excuse the disruption which I feel like they could have had a better sign.
03:22But I guess someone's shooting a documentary in here today so maybe we'll look at what
03:25cool shots they're taking and try to match those. But excited to go in and explore.
03:30And here we go.
03:33Quiet and empty in here compared to everywhere else we've been.
03:37This is nice. I feel like I can actually like walk around and enjoy this.
03:52I forgot my head sunscreen today. I found this really great head sunscreen that you can like
04:05put on your scalp but I forgot to put it on so now we're repurposing the scarf.
04:10Okay real quick for all the history nerds. The Jaypur palace was built in the 1700s and the reason for all the pink was the ruler at the time, this guy. Pink was mandated in 1876 to help welcome the
04:21Prince of Wales. And actually the last ruling royal family still live in a private area of the palace but they wouldn't let me in.
04:29Okay back to the vlog.
04:30I'm a little sad because all the things I wanted to see here I can't see.
04:34So I wanted to see the meeting place which is the pretty pink ceilings and everything that's closed off for filming.
04:42And then a lot of the other pictures that you see like the blue and white room or like those really intricate ceilings.
04:47All those are part of a royal tour and so you have to pay and like get a guide and do all of that and you have to like reserve that in advance.
04:54So not exactly what I was expecting but the parts that we were able to see were still pretty.
04:59I think we saw the peacock gate which was really nice.
05:02Definitely didn't get to see as much we had hoped and this is definitely one of the more expensive attractions that we've visited in India compared to what we did in Delhi.
05:11So a little bummed out but it's still a beautiful evening so we're gonna go get some food and keep exploring.
05:17It was a thousand rupees per ticket per person for foreigners.
05:41We just had lunch at a place near the city palace.
05:43All of that food we got was about a thousand rupees.
05:47So very good deal.
05:48Very delicious food and we highly recommend it.
05:50With full stomachs we headed to get a view of one of J-Pert's most famous attractions, the Howa Mahal.
06:01Every time we come into the streets, Gary gets a little on edge.
06:04Woo, almost got to buy a motorbike.
06:06Kind of just got to embrace the chaos.
06:08It's the only way.
06:09This is crazy.
06:12We're gonna attempt to cross this street to go to one of those cafes up there and get a better view.
06:20We stopped in the Windview Cafe to get a really great view.
06:24And we're enjoying this cappuccino.
06:26We got a huge thing of water and it's just a great place to relax.
06:30The weather is beautiful.
06:31There's some breeze.
06:32We're in the shade.
06:33So just a nice place to chill and hang out from.
06:36They do have a cover charge but your bill reduces the amount you have to pay to get in.
06:41So they don't want people just coming up here taking photos for free and then leaving.
06:45I almost got hit by like three cars.
06:47A little bit of a drama mama.
06:49A little bit of a baby.
06:50I mean, got a little love tap.
06:52A little love tap on the leg.
06:55You're fine.
06:58After the cafe, we took it easy because we had an early morning and a long travel day ahead.
07:03We are headed to Nepal to hike the Everest Base Camp trek.
07:06Thanks for watching and we'll see you in the next video.
