00:00Today we're at Skichi Outer Market and we're gonna attempt to see how far $20
00:03US dollars gets us and have lunch here. This is the budget. Let's eat.
00:30Lauren and I are currently in Tokyo for the next few days and eating at local markets is high on our list.
00:40Today we are at Skichi Outer Market which is a must visit especially if you're looking for fresh seafood.
00:46Alright, what's first on the agenda?
00:48Don't worry. Let's go find some seaweed.
00:52I've never been thankful to be more of a tall man because I can just see right over everybody's head.
00:56And Lauren is down here at the waist.
00:58Look at the seafood chairs.
01:00Alright, we're at our first place. Let's try some seaweed.
01:09Tastes like seaweed.
01:17That's good.
01:19And it's a free sample so we haven't spent any money yet.
01:21If you're looking to take some souvenirs home, this is a great place to buy nori to take with you.
01:26So the nori was just a warm-up. A little bit something to cleanse the palate, you know.
01:30But now we need something of some substance.
01:35We're at a restaurant. I don't know the name of it. We'll put it here.
01:38But it is bustling and they have all these great seafood dishes.
01:41I want that one.
01:43I want that one.
01:44There's so many good options. Like you would say that every time I turn the page.
01:48So we got some free tea and then we got a lean, fatty, is it lean or fatty?
01:53Lean.
01:54Lean.
01:55Lean.
01:56We got a lean tuna bowl and it was 700 Japanese Yen.
01:58The budget can't afford fatty.
01:59Yeah, we can't afford the fatty tuna.
02:01So we have 1,900 Yen left. So we're on good pace.
02:06This is what 700 Yen will get you at the market.
02:10We got a lean tuna bowl with rice and a little small piece of a Japanese omelet and it looks delicious.
02:19I got the perfect bite. I got rice, the tuna, a little bit of wasabi.
02:24It is so good. You barely have to chew the tuna.
02:28We did get the lean bowl. So it's not as tender as like a fatty cup.
02:33It's still absolutely delicious and such an amazing value for 700 Yen.
02:38I almost forgot it comes with miso cheese.
02:41It's really hard to self-restraint on the rice because they give you so much,
02:44but we got to leave room because we have a lot more things to try.
02:48Literally not even 10 seconds later.
02:51The challenge is getting easier because this place is sample heaven.
02:56I got this. I don't know. It's like a peanut coated in caramel, but it's so good.
03:02It looks like a big cashew.
03:05Salty, crunchy. I think it's a cashew.
03:08Oh! Wasabi.
03:11I'm one ready for that.
03:18Dried mullet roe.
03:20And shark roe and egg yolk.
03:22It kind of tastes like a sea fish beef turkey.
03:26It's pretty good.
03:28Pretty good.
03:31Is that it?
03:32Yeah, that's it.
03:33Scallop dumplings.
03:34About 980 Yen. It looks delicious.
03:42Just a moment.
03:46We have these scallop dumplings.
03:49I'm excited to try this.
03:50Oh, that's hot.
03:52Don't burn your mouth.
03:53This is what you can eat.
03:56That is so good.
03:57It definitely has a really good, like, dumpling taste, but the scallop is delicious.
04:03What are you doing? Stop it.
04:05Carrots.
04:06I'm letting it cool.
04:07Have you never seen that?
04:08You poke holes and stuff?
04:09No, stop.
04:10It's like two of the best of both worlds.
04:15You got the plump, juicy scallop on the inside, and then you got the outside, which is like
04:19a dumpling, which are very good.
04:20Scallop juice.
04:21We got six scallop dumplings for 980 Yen.
04:25So, if I can do math today, we've got about 800 Yen left.
04:30So, probably one or two more things.
04:33If you like dumplings, and you like scallops, you should try this place.
04:43We have this matcha mochi.
04:46It's 250 Yen, and you can still see all the sweet bean powder on it.
04:50It dries.
04:56Matcha is, like, not super sweet, which makes it good.
04:59I feel like sometimes you get these, and they're, like, overly sweet, but matcha just
05:02being a little more earthy really adds a nice contrast to it, but it's very good.
05:17Alright, final thing is going to be this iced matcha latte.
05:21I've seen people walking around with them over the entire market.
05:24It started raining, and the line cleared up, so we're going to take this as our chance
05:27to get one.
05:35This is the perfect beverage to wash it all down.
05:37We had a great time here, and I am so full.
05:41So, all in all, we got about four items for 20 US dollars, so if you're in Tokyo, you should
05:48check this place out, because we got a lot of good food, and they were all pretty well-priced,
05:53and there were samples.
05:54If you liked this video, subscribe to our channel, and we'll see you in the next one.
05:57Mmm, just kidding.
05:58We weren't ready to leave just yet, because these two next things caught our eye, and we
06:02could not pass them up.
06:03No clue what just happened.
06:05The first bonus round item was this tamagoyaki.
06:08We got a Japanese omelette.
06:09It is so fluffy and moist, and it was only 150 yen.
06:14Cheers.
06:15Mmm.
06:16It melts in your mouth.
06:17It's so moist.
06:18It's not like desert eggs.
06:19You know, you ever had desert eggs from like a Motel 6 holiday inn?
06:23This ain't your desert eggs.
06:24You want to try it?
06:25I'm about to eat it all.
06:27So we are on the hunt for some meat skewers.
06:28I'm looking for the A5 Wagyu beef.
06:29It's out of the budget, so it's just, we're going to eat it, but not part of the $20 challenge.
06:44Okay, I know this doesn't count towards the challenge, but as a final bonus round, we
06:49had to stop and get these A5 Domestic Wagyu beef skewers.
06:53They are so juicy.
06:55They are like dripping everywhere.
06:59I was like expecting to have to like tear it back.
07:01It literally just like dissolves.
