00:00Lauren's been waiting for this for a long time.

00:26We just landed here in Chicago O'Hare and we have a 5 hour layover

00:29so I have plenty of time to try and convey why I'm so excited about this particular trip.

00:33But first, let's go settle in and then we'll take it back.

00:37In May of 2018, I had the opportunity to see Christ the Redeemer in Brazil.

00:42Everyone on that tour was talking about the seven wonders of the world

00:46and that's where the seed was first planted.

00:53So fast forward a year and I find myself in Agra, India standing next to the Taj Mahal.

00:57Now, I'm two down out of seven and at this point, it's a mission.

01:05Later in 2019, I managed the Great Wall of China and then Chichen Itza in Mexico.

01:10I'm on a roll, everything's looking good for me to finish by the end of 2020.

01:14You can probably guess why that never happened.

01:16Okay.

01:18Developing overnight, President Trump activating the National Guard.

01:22Two years later and we're about to board a 787 to Oman, Jordan,

01:27where we're going to rent a car and finally go visit a trip.

01:30Now, excitement aside, I can honestly say this is also the most anxious I felt about the trip.

01:36With the recent spikes in Omicron and increased transmissibility and the holidays and everything else,

01:43it's just been really overwhelming.

01:45And we've done quite a bit of planning for this trip, like way more than normal.

01:49After learning the hard way in Greece and missing out on the fun of driving the ATVs on the island,

01:54Lauren and I have both secured our international driver's license.

01:58We secured medical coverage for this trip.

02:01It'll include things like any medical costs, if we get stuck in a quarantine hotel, or medevac,

02:07but if that happens, you won't see it on the vlog anyway, so...

02:10I have a panic attack.

02:13It's imminent.

02:14Positive, negative, however the test result...

02:17We also got caught up on our routine vaccinations like flu and tetanus.

02:22We also got some recommended travel ones, Tepe and Typhoid.

02:26And just for extra measure, we also got our COVID boosters, which my arm is still probably sore from that.

02:33So then we took a lot of COVID tests too, to be exact, before we left Texas,

02:37just to make sure that everything was smooth before we left the country.

02:41And finally, we completed all of our immigration forms, documentation, passenger locator,

02:47so that way the immigration process will be as smooth as possible.

02:51All that's left to do is board this plane and pass our PCR test on arrival.

04:48We just landed in Jordan.

04:50We are headed to get the rental car and drive to the Petra Marriott Hotel.

04:54Alright so it's about 3.30 local time.

04:56We cleared customs here at Queen Elia International Airport

05:00and we just got our rental car.

05:02He was very thorough and there was a lot of scratches on it.

05:06I think he marked every single scratch so we shouldn't get charged for anything hopefully.

05:10So we got that.

05:11Now we're about to drive towards the Marriott Petra Hotel where we'll be staying tonight.

05:16And then tomorrow morning we will be going to Petra.

05:18So we're really excited and should be a good drive.

05:22Alright.

05:23Two and a half hours on the road.

05:24Let's go.

05:25So the flight was actually pretty great.

05:30At eleven and a half hours it was a really good amount of time to eat dinner, get decent

05:37sleep in, enjoy breakfast.

05:39I think we're both feeling pretty decent right now.

05:42Staying awake on this beautiful drive.

05:44The staff was super attentive which was kind of a welcome surprise.

05:48We didn't really have high expectations just with, you know, the shortage and the understaffing

05:53on flights right now.

05:55But they were absolutely great.

05:57Our flight attendant checked on us all the time.

05:59It brought back a lot of the amenities that had actually gone away during COVID.

06:03So we got like two welcome drinks, hot towels throughout the flight, real, you know, silverware,

06:12tablecloth, dinner, like the whole thing.

06:14And I know those are just like little things, but when you splurge for a business class seat

06:20or, you know, for us we redeemed more miles for a business class seat, it's just really nice

06:25to have those kind of amenities.

06:27We're getting really lucky with the sunsets on this drive, but we're also running out of

06:31daylight and there are no street lights on this road.

06:35So we're trying to go as fast as we can without grossly speeding so that we're not driving

06:41in the dark for that long because we got bad eyes.

06:44Just looking forward to washing my face and laying down.

06:48Google Maps don't let us down.

06:51I'm not going to lie, this looks pretty sketch.

06:54There's no one else out here.

06:56Just us on this windy road, dwindling daylight.

07:00We're down to one lane of rolling hills and abrupt turns, but we do have to give them credit

07:08because this road is still paved smoother than most of the highways in Texas, Oklahoma.

07:13As I was sitting down to edit this vlog, that statement could not be further from the truth.

07:20While the roads are pretty nice on the main highways, once you kind of venture off the highways a little bit,

07:26they just have speed bumps like everywhere.

07:30It is the craziest thing I've seen.

07:33But you know, I hit a few going really fast and I'm still alive to tell the tale.

07:37So anyways, back to the vlog.

07:40Finally made it to our hotel.

07:42Overall, it was good.

07:43Lauren and I both had a good test of holding our bladder, but we made it.

07:46Time to enjoy some welcome snacks.

07:52We also got our COVID results back.

07:55The COVID testing at the airport was wild.

07:58It was the most efficient thing I've ever seen.

08:01There's just like all of these stalls, like you round the corner and it's had to be like 30 stalls.

08:06Yeah.

08:07And they just like, everyone was like lined up.

08:09Like there was all these like people there and they were wearing all white and they were changing their gloves and swabbing you left and right.

08:14And they just gave you a QR code on the back of your passport.

08:17And then we scanned it like four hours later and it was great.

08:21We're negative.

08:22So that means that we're going to get to go enjoy Petra tomorrow.

08:25So.

08:26Woo.

08:27We're so excited.

08:30We're going to crash tonight.

08:31And hopefully we'll come back tomorrow with Petra.
