04:34So your challenge is to design two show-stopping party wear outfits.
04:41I'm talking about out out.
04:44I'm talking about a big entrance.
04:47Your finished collections will be modelled on the catwalk in our Dress the Nation runwear show.
04:54Exciting stuff.
04:56Designers, you've got eight hours to create your party wear collections.
05:01And your time starts now.

05:06The designers have just eight hours to create two party wear looks for men or women before they'll be fitting their party wear to real life models for the very first time.
05:20I can never get into these.
05:22It's the final eight hours, two outfits.
05:25It's a big, big ask for our designers.
05:27They need to have pulled out all stops.
05:30They need to have really thought through their design, how to make it, how to fit it beautifully, how to really answer the brief.
05:36So it's going to be really interesting to see.
05:39I don't know if I can carry all this.
05:40And it's the first time that their looks will be showcased on real life models as opposed to mannequins.
05:48How do you think that that's going to change the dynamics?
05:50Could go one way or another.
05:52You could look amazing when you're sewing it and then suddenly you get it actually movement.
05:57And then everything kind of like falls apart.
06:00It's also really magical.
06:01And I think it's important that it's their first time.
06:03And it's like that first time only comes once.
06:06And I hope that they're really present and enjoy that moment.
06:11That's all right.
06:12It's got a little something to it.
06:14So David, what do you look for in party wear?
06:16I like structure, suits, traditional tailoring.
06:19But, you know, times are moving on and there's got to be a contemporary feel to that.
06:23So it'll be interesting to see how that is interpreted by the designers.
06:27A lot to do.
06:28No time to do it.
06:30Oh my God, it's getting real.
06:31Marco, one thing that we have talked about consistently through this series is commerciality.
06:37How difficult is that as a designer?
06:39That is the ultimate challenge is to tread that fine line between art and commerce.
06:44And I think it's very important that we can see who they are as a designer
06:48whilst they're also working to a brief for M&S.
06:52So I think if you can achieve both, you've ticked the box.
06:57So fast today.
06:59Very, very fast.
07:00It's a combination of old Regency fashion from like the 1800s, 1700s,
07:06mixed with some of the draping from Ghana.
07:09So I'm trying to soften evening wear.
07:11Drawing on historical references from his combined British and African heritage,
07:16Rich is sticking to his tailoring strengths with his and hers party wear.
07:20An elevated charcoal grey Czech men's suit for the unique waistcoat scarf hybrid
07:25and a women's burgundy cocktail suit dress with contemporary cold-shoulder design and tuxedo-inspired lapel.
07:33Richie, congratulations on getting into the final.

07:36You're the only person actually in the final who's doing a men's and a women's outfit.
07:40Why have you chosen that combo?
07:42Playing to my strength.
07:43I know I'm good at men's wear and I've developed over time to get my women's wear more on point.
07:47I've taken some of the feedback in the earlier challenges that didn't work out well.
07:51Yeah.
07:51And I'm implementing them here.
07:52Pressure, man.
07:56For men's wear Taylor Richie...
07:57It's nice.
07:58..the competition has been far from plain sailing.
08:01I've shown throughout the competition that I can be very resilient.
08:04I knew I would make it through, but as the challenges progressed,
08:07it wasn't as easy as I thought.
08:09And his lack of women's wear experience proved difficult in the early weeks.
08:14I've never designed or made dresses before.
08:15I'm used to men's wear.
08:17Femininity, that for me, is what's lacking.
08:20Right.
08:20But he was always keen to learn from his mistakes.
08:23I need to understand more about the woman.
08:26With a little help from regular team-mate Casey.

08:32Like, just make it dramatic as possible.
08:33Like, real proper cinching.
08:34To make the women's wear more feminine, I've learned a lot about shape and a lot about the cut.

08:50He's a very creative designer.
08:52And skilled tailoring...

10:18I'm actually doing two women's looks.

10:22So, I'm doing this gold mini dress.
10:24And then also the suit, I've decided to make black.

10:29I just realised that black would probably be more wearable.
10:32A silver suit, they probably would only bring out, like,
10:34once a year if they were to buy it.
10:38Casey's designed a flowing gold party dress,
10:40as well as a women's black suit with a corset and layered lace
10:44skirt.
10:45But is this bold, wet-look, layered outfit too haven't got for M&S?
10:50And has she bitten off more than she can saw?
10:53You have got an ambitious collection coming together here.

11:08Yeah, I think I've produced my best work under pressure,
11:11so I think that's why I keep putting the pressure on myself.

11:18For the youngest designer, 22-year-old retail worker Casey,
11:21the competition has been a much-needed opportunity.
11:25I'm kind of chuffed with that.
11:26It's really special to be here because I feel like I've had a chance to prove myself.
11:32Why did I decide to make it so complicated?
11:36There's just not many opportunities where I'm from.
11:39I've applied to hundreds and hundreds of jobs,
11:41and I've never really heard anything back.
11:44But a lack of confidence.
11:46I'm just disappointed in myself.
11:48Accompanied by her ambitious designs.
11:50I've really tried to do too much in the time,
11:53and it just isn't paying off.
11:55Often left her struggling with time.
11:57It was an ambitious kind of design at the outset.
12:00To do in four weeks, I would have known four hours.
12:03It will be a massive shame if time is what messes this up for you.
12:08But her bold and complex looks...
12:10Shock, I'm going for leopard print again.
12:13It just seems to be, like, the boldest choice.
12:15Still secured her praise from the judges.
12:18Stunning garment, really well done.
12:19I'm really happy that I stuck to my guns
12:21and went for these bold designs.
12:23I think you need to be yourself and trust your gut instinct.
12:26And teaming up with Richie finally helps her to get the job done.

14:05and, with it, their last chance to impress the experts.

14:11But I'm a bit worried for this one
14:12because there's not as much stretch in it as I would have liked.

27:43I'm the type of person that doesn't really have a plan.
27:47I always go super lost for words in these situations.
27:50Just go down a weird rabbit hole.

27:53Did you guys know about the fortune teller?
28:00And what do you think M&S can learn from Casey?
28:02I think I'm obviously quite young.
28:05I think I have lots of really fresh, you know, concepts and ideas and shapes and silhouettes.
28:10So I think I could definitely just bring a bit of youthfulness, freshness, to the M&S design teams.
28:18I think my confidence has grown so much through this competition.
28:21I think if you put me in there in week one, I maybe wouldn't have been as confident.
28:26I think these challenges have really made me realise how I should really back myself as a designer.
28:31You know, I think I've got a unique story.
28:34And, you know, fashion is about sending a message to the world.
28:36It's more than just clothes.
28:38It's about aspiration.
28:39The way I've dedicated myself, knocking on doors, getting the no's, sometimes the yes's.
28:45And look, I'm doing an interview with M&S.
28:48Yeah.
28:48That's major.
28:50I've grown through this process, to be honest.
28:52You know, I've seen the M&S customers come in.
28:54They've enjoyed every single thing I've made.
28:56And it gives me the confidence that, you know, I can do something major on a global scale.
29:02And what do you think M&S can learn from Bailey?
29:05I know you want to bring in the younger consumer.
29:07And like, my sort of demographic is probably what you're aiming to target towards.
29:14So instead of having to research that, I sort of am that.
29:18We can only offer this mentorship to one person.
29:21Yeah.
29:21Why would that candidate be you?
29:23You know, giving me the opportunity, I'll make the most of it.
29:26I know that for sure.
29:27You know, I've made the most of little.
29:29So can you imagine what I can do with much?
29:30I think it should be me because I have a lot of potential and a lot to give.
29:37And I'm really open to adapting and taking all the advice on board.
29:41And I've learned so much of this experience.
29:43And I'm really excited and looking forward to continuing my career and learning and soaking
29:47up as much as I possibly can.
29:50So Bailey, we've only offered this mentorship to one person.
29:53Why should that one person be you?
29:54I think I've just got a real drive to succeed.

41:43I would say overall with Bailey, it's been an up and down process
41:48But overall he's got stronger every week
41:50Bailey had a very difficult first challenge
41:54An underwhelming autumn dress has to be said
41:58But then came menswear week and he shot up
42:02Yeah, absolutely, I think he picked the right fabric
42:05It was heritage week and it really kind of stood apart from everything else really
42:09But our customers really respond to consistency
42:12And with Bailey, you know, it's quite a pendulum
42:15You don't know what you're going to get
42:17I just feel like it just screams him
42:20And whatever he does just translates to everyone else as well
42:23Because it's so in and creative
42:24And it's hard not to like anything that he does
42:27Let's move on to Kirstie
42:28Initially week one we had tears
42:30And then she slowly fired her feet
42:32Her progression has been nothing but positive
42:34Her first challenge, the vision
42:37I think the potential of what that design could have been
42:41Was really what got her through that
42:43Rather than the execution necessarily
42:45She's definitely very ambitious
42:47Quite avant-garde
42:49But actually pushing the boundaries
42:50To her credit
42:51I think that her design vision
42:54Would convert really well
42:56Into something that could be very commercial
42:58When we watched them all
43:00I think her work ethic is phenomenal really
43:03Her tenacity is amazing
43:04From a team player point of view
43:06You know, you'd have Casey and your team all day long
43:09Yeah, absolutely
43:10I think how you work within a team
43:12And how you bounce ideas and inspire is so important
43:16I think it's equally as important
43:18As the skill set they bring to the table
43:21From a design point of view
43:22I mean, it's blown me away
43:25I've seen her work before
43:26But this is just absolutely stunning
43:28Honestly, I just can't express how proud I am of her
43:32And how she's managed to showcase herself
43:35And let everybody see how fantastic she is
43:37It sounds like it's incredible class
43:40And you've got such a tough decision on your hands
43:42You know, they've all got their strong points
43:44They've all got their weak points
43:46And yeah, it's not easy
43:48They could all benefit from this
43:50It's really hard
43:52In very different ways
43:53But equally important
43:54Completely
43:55I think it's really hard to call at the moment
43:58I think we've got a tough, tough conversation
44:01Honestly
44:08We think you've all absolutely smashed it
44:12And we just know for the fact
44:14That your futures are bright
44:16But of course, it is a competition
44:18And only one of you
44:20Can take that next huge step
44:23In your career
44:25With the help of Marks and Spencer
