02:43E vê algo no fundo.
02:46O que é isso?
02:58O que ela encontra é Elisir Graham.
03:01Há半o e morto.
03:03E assim começa.
03:05Eu sou David A. Frankel.
03:25Os criminosos sempre stroke curveballs.
06:03E dizem, come aqui, e do o que você deseja.
06:06Come on down.
07:04A pequena gunshot wound to a cabeça, a cabeça é um vacuão.
07:07Quando essa arma entra,
07:09não sai.
08:06There's no robbery, they say he has a truck, so where is it?
08:11They don't know.
08:15It's always important to search the surrounding area from a crime scene
08:18to determine if other evidence can be discovered.
08:22And as those investigators plan out to search the area,
08:26Detective Franco goes to speak with the relatives of the victim.
08:29So, I was at work, and then they told me that my brother was murdered.
08:39I just didn't believe it was real.
08:44Because I had just talked to him, I just got my Mother's Day gift.
08:48You know, how is it possible?
08:52But, that's it.
08:59It was right in this stretch where he was killed.
09:06And he was found here, up there.
09:11When I came, there was still blood markings over there,
09:16by the stop sign.
09:23This is my brother, Ellie.
09:25You can't see it in this picture, but Ellie had a crooked smile.
09:29You know, it looked like a Popeye grin.
09:34When I was growing up, there was 15 children.
09:38My dad was a pig farmer.
09:40And I think dad and Ellie were like mud on a pig.
09:45They were inseparable.
09:48The two of them loved the hogs.
09:52He had multiple jobs.
09:55The gas station, the mission, the newspapers.
09:59He worked for the mattress company.
10:02I don't even know when he slept.
10:03But, he kept it all up.
10:07He'd always help somebody.
10:08When somebody needed something, oh, go to Ellie.
10:11He can help you.
10:12Who do you rely on when your reliable rock is no longer here?
10:25When they told me that Ellie was murdered, I thought Frank killed him.
10:30The sister believed that Mr. Graham's brother, Frank, may have killed her brother.
10:39They had an ongoing dispute that was pretty toxic.
10:45Detective Frankel goes to see relatives for the very purpose of trying to develop a suspect.
10:50And this family handed him a suspect on a silver platter.
10:59ID.
11:11At 7.30 a.m., the victim, Ellesier Graham, was discovered dead near the gas station where he worked.
11:17And now investigators are looking into his own brother as possibly the killer.
11:27When they were kids, Frank and Ellie were very close.
11:31They were like two peas in a pod.
11:33She said they will never talk about it, but something really bad happened between them,
11:38and neither one forgives the other.
11:41Tension between Frank and Ellie grew.
11:44For 20 years, they had the rivalry.
11:47In the prior few weeks, there had been an incident where Frank may have tried to run his brother over with a car.
11:55She said Ellesier was visiting his parents at the family home, and the brother decided to come by as well.
12:04And when that happens, there's always going to be trouble.
12:10Frank allegedly announces he's going to kill his brother by running him over and attempts to do the same.
12:18When your blood runs hot, whatever is convenient becomes a weapon.
12:28I just remember at least just saying, you know, my leg's messed up.
12:36I'm like, are you okay?
12:38Yep.
12:38And then the police were called.
12:42But Ellesier wouldn't pursue anything, so the sheriff's department drops the charge.
12:48Immediately you're thinking, we might have a really good lead, so you definitely have to go check that out.
12:54There's nothing more dangerous than a feud that goes on for 20 years, and then a recent event where it escalates.
13:03He gets more hateful by the minute.
13:05They find Frank, bring him into the office for interrogation.
13:15He is hostile.
13:17He is angry.
13:19He finds it to be ludicrous that they think he would kill his brother.
13:23And they say, well, why not?
13:25You tried to two weeks ago.
13:28Finally, he says, look, I just got into town.
13:31I've been driving a truck for weeks.
13:33He's an over-the-road trucker.
13:35They check with his employment, and that's true.
13:39We were able to verify that Mr. Graham's brother, Frank, was not involved in his murder.
13:45He's just a brother who doesn't like his dead brother.
13:49But that's all he is.
13:51So it's back to square one.
13:54You just have to reassess any other information you can get and keep tracking down people with connections to the victim.
14:01Now it's nine o'clock in the morning, and Frankl hears back from the officers searching the crime scene area where they discover a pickup truck in a ditch along I-80.
14:15You certainly have to go look at it because it's in the vicinity of where the body's found and see if there's any connection.
14:22They search the truck, assuming it belongs to Mr. Graham, and they don't find anything of any interest.
14:29So they run the plates, and they discover it belongs to someone else entirely.
14:34It came back to people with the last name of Pape, and they lived in Fernley, Nevada, which was in the next county over.
14:43It's what we call a cow county, meaning it's a lot of farmland.
14:48It was a pretty peaceful little town.
14:50Robert Pape is 84 years old, and he lives with his wife, Dorothy.
14:55And his truck is abandoned within a quarter mile of the murder scene.
15:00Now, why is that?
15:01Did they see anything, or are they involved?
15:05You have to keep an open mind of it could be any of the above.
15:11He may be 84 years old, but all it takes is six pounds of pressure to pull the trigger.
15:19First thing we do is call the police department in that jurisdiction and ask them,
15:24hey, can you make contact with the papes and ask them if they know anything about their vehicle being out here at the Mustang exit.
15:32And the officer that answers the phone says, boy, that's amazing.
15:36We found his house on fire in Fernley this morning.
15:38That was pretty alarming.
15:41Like, what's going on?
15:45A 911 call came in at 5.30 this morning.
15:49When the fire department responded, they discover a pickup truck in the garage was on fire.
15:55The fire had also spread to the house.
15:59The fireman went in to clear the house, but found no one home.
16:02Robert and Dorothy Pape are not in this house.
16:06I felt that it wasn't this crazy coincidence.
16:10A light bulb went off.
16:11These might be linked together.
16:13What is going on here?
16:15Something is.
16:16So we responded out to Lyon County in the Fernley area where the other crime scene was
16:31to see if we could help with anything that they needed.
16:35My name is Marty Deuce.
16:37I was the detective for the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
16:40When the Washoe County Sheriff's Office calls us,
16:43we're now looking at possibly sitting on a piece of evidence for their case.
16:47Everybody was kind of getting extremely confused.
16:50The pieces of the puzzle were fitting together oddly.
16:53Things are going through your head.
16:55Like, was Mr. Graham involved in something at the Pape's house?
16:59Did he steal their truck?
17:03We know that the fire department responded to a truck on fire in the garage.
17:08They assume it is a truck belonging to the resident, Mr. Robert Pape.
17:17However, at 7.30 in the morning, Robert Pape's truck is 20 miles away.
17:23So then the question becomes, if it's not the Pape truck, then whose truck is it?
17:28When the police in Lyon County ran their records check,
17:35that truck came back to our victim, Mr. Graham.
17:41It's like, what the heck is going on here?
17:44This just gets more confusing by the moment.
17:48There must be some kind of connection.
17:51And also, where are the Pape's?
17:53Are they in the house? The fire department says no.
17:55The fire department goes in, puts on the fire, and they make a sweep of the house.
18:00So we were basically taking it at their word.
18:03And it was myself and the fire marshal who were talking.
18:06And we're both kind of like, are we sure we checked the house good?
18:10Fire departments are good at putting out fires.
18:14They're not very good at searching places.
18:16You train detectives to be thorough and detailed and overlook nothing.
18:20So we did a greater walkthrough of the house.
18:27With a structure fire, the entire house is covered in soot.
18:31It's understandable why people overlook things, because it's a mess.
18:36Filthy mess.
18:38When we did go into the master bedroom, the bed had been stripped.
18:46There was a weird substance on the floor, just like squiggles on the carpet.
18:51It looked like shampooed.
18:53It was really weird.
18:54It kind of threw us off.
18:57When we got to the walk-in closet, something was just, it was just, they just call it JDLR.
19:02It just doesn't look right.
19:03Most of their clothes were hung up, but then there's these two huge piles of clothing on the ground.
19:13Like somebody just emptied out a dresser and just threw it on the floor.
19:20Then we started just peeling back some of the clothes.
19:25And then all of a sudden it was just like, I think we got a problem.
19:29You find what you've been looking for.
19:33Two dead people.
19:39Fatal Destination starts Tuesday the 12th of August on ID.
19:50Detective Dave Frankel and Detective Deuce of the Lyon County Sheriff's Department find two dead bodies.
19:59An elderly man and an elderly woman.
20:01They confirmed the identity of these two people, and they are in fact Robert and Dorothy Pape.
20:08We have three bodies.
20:10The Pape's are dead.
20:12Mr. Graham is dead.
20:14What is going on?
20:16In Lyon County, we're all deputy coroners in the sheriff's office.
20:19So we were like, okay, we need to start switching over to coroner mode and crime scene mode.
20:26Mrs. Pape had been shot in the head, and Mr. Pape had been shot in the head and torso.
20:33Small caliber bullets, just like Elisha or Graham, now we know this is connected, and the same shooter is involved in all of this mess.
20:44There is some evidence of decomposition, which says this didn't happen this morning, this happened a few days ago.
20:50And so they are first.
20:53Mr. Graham is victim number two.
20:56What is the purpose behind that?
21:00Detectives continue their search, and they find two locations.
21:04There are obvious spots where these people were killed.
21:07More than likely, Dorothy's laying in bed.
21:09And Robert Pape's laying flat on his back, um, on the floor.
21:16So somebody moved those bodies post-mortem.
21:21Now, why did they do that?
21:23The Pape's house appeared to be, like, a ransacked residence.
21:29Jewelry seemed to be gone.
21:31Other things that would lead them to believe this might have been a burglary gone bad.
21:35To have this kind of violence associated with theft and burglary is very rare.
21:42We did a greater walkthrough of the house.
21:45Now I start seeing indications that are throwing me off.
21:51There's a full cookie sheet of freshly cooked bacon.
21:55It's just sitting on the counter.
21:58They find half-eaten food.
22:00You have a guy who kills and then decides to live there with his victims
22:07because they're decomposing two or three days' worth.
22:12He's eating a pizza with dead people.
22:15Extremely creepy.
22:17Extremely.
22:18And while they were working this scene,
22:22the relatives of Dorothy and Robert Pape arrived.
22:28And they've informed him of their death.
22:31I go screaming up the driveway in my car,
22:35and I jump out, and this guy in a suit comes running up to me.
22:39I asked him,
22:40You're a fire detective or something?
22:42And he goes,
22:44No, I'm a homicide detective.
22:46He puts his hands on my shoulder like this,
22:49and he's holding me,
22:51and he goes,
22:52We believe that they've been murdered.
22:55And I'm like,
22:56What?
22:58What do you mean?
22:58They've been murdered.
23:03They asked who they might have known that would have done this.
23:07They'd said a lot of people know the papes,
23:09and nobody had a bad word to say about them.
23:12Murder never, ever crossed my mind,
23:14because everybody in that town loved them.
23:18This is Bob and Dottie's 50th wedding anniversary.
23:22They celebrated just the two of them,
23:25because in their minds, that's all there was.
23:29You never saw one without the other.
23:32Bob and Dottie were married 63 years.
23:34Bob was in the U.S. Army,
23:40and he was in Korea for two years,
23:44and he had a purple heart.
23:46And then Bob's career was in the drywall tapers union.
23:54Dottie was a stay-at-home mom.
23:57She had like five miscarriages trying to have children,
24:00and so Bob and Dottie pretty much gave up on never having any children.
24:07And then she got pregnant with my husband.
24:09We were, the four of us, a very close family.
24:14With the papes being deceased in Lyon County
24:19and Mr. Graham being deceased in our county
24:22and the coincidences of their vehicles being at opposite scenes,
24:28obviously we're thinking there's some kind of connection.
24:32They asked,
24:34did your mother or your father know a man named Ellis or Graham
24:37who worked in a gas station 20 miles away on I-80?
24:40And I went, absolutely not.
24:44So it certainly gives one the impression so far
24:47that these victims were connected at random.
24:51It puts a lot of pressure on you
24:52because obviously your body count's going on quickly.
24:55Is somebody going on a killing spree?
24:57Do we have a serial murderer?
24:59Are we going to find more bodies?
25:01Your assumption is great
25:03that this person isn't through killing.
25:06He likes it.
25:07And wherever he happens to be
25:09is where he might strike again.
25:11And we don't know where that is.
25:14Now it's 11 a.m.
25:16Both agencies have been placed on high alert.
25:19The Lyon County Sheriff's Department
25:20gets a phone call to check the welfare on Angie Duff.
25:24This is a neighbor of the papes.
25:28Detective Dews can see that house from where he's standing.
25:32They said the female that owned the house
25:35would volunteer at the senior center.
25:37And she was a no-call, no-show that morning.
25:40We sent two street deputies.
25:48Well, they get there and there's no answer.
25:54One of them went around back.
25:55And the back glass had been shattered
26:07and there's glass everywhere.
26:16He's looking through that window
26:18and sees the absolute worst thing he could see.
26:22The fear was he would strike again.
26:30And he has.
26:34They discover two more dead bodies.
26:38A man and a woman.
26:40All of a sudden, that's five.
26:42Our body count's going up.
26:44There's no longer any doubt.
26:45This is one person.
26:46They're on a killing spree.
26:48Anyone they encounter, they're going to kill.
26:50That's when the pressure ratchets up pretty high.
26:57Spree killers are rare.
26:59They don't happen as often as serial killers do.
27:02They are someone whose rubber band breaks.
27:06A serial killer has an appetite for killing.
27:09But each time he kills, it satisfies that desire
27:13for a period of time.
27:17A spree killer is in the act of doing it all the time.
27:22They don't want to stop and reconsider.
27:25They don't want to calm down.
27:28They want to continue to feed.
27:33There are people among us who are great white sharks.
27:38The perfect eating machine.
27:40To kill is not enough to do it only once.
27:44Kill a series.
27:46Go back and eat the remains.
27:48And kill again.
27:49That's what no one wants to think about.
27:53Because spree killers have no idea what your name is.
27:57They just want to kill you.
28:00Because you're a human and you're standing in their way.
28:06When they gain entry to the home of Angie Duff,
28:10they examine the house.
28:12It's a chaotic crime scene.
28:14Actually, it was more like a combat zone.
28:17She was fighting for her life.
28:19There's blood everywhere.
28:21It's all over the carpets.
28:22It's on the floors.
28:23It's on the walls.
28:24I can honestly say it's the most bloody non-suicide I've ever seen.
28:32The victims who are identified is Angie Duff
28:35and her companion, Lester Lieber.
28:38Both have been shot to death with small caliber bullets.
28:43Lester also had a very evident knife cut into his chest.
28:48Now we have two weapons involved,
28:50perpetrated by the same person.
28:52Maybe we're now really enjoying the violence.
28:55Hard to say.
28:57But it's an escalation.
28:59So now what's the motive?
29:01Nothing is taken.
29:02Nothing's rattled through.
29:03The cars are still here.
29:04And I have had a serious fight in this house
29:07with firearms and a bladed weapon.
29:11It's like it's calculated,
29:12but it's random at the same time.
29:14So they're looking at these bodies
29:18and then they realize
29:20the blood is very fresh.
29:23This just happened.
29:26If they got far, they're on foot.
29:29Right in the general area.
29:31Where is this son of a bitch?
29:36He's here somewhere.
29:40So now we have to lock down that neighborhood
29:42and keep track of who's going in and out
29:44because the killer might be right next to us
29:47and us not even knowing.
29:48We brought in the SWAT team
29:57and then they searched
29:59as far as they could in every direction.
30:03We have other deputies doing house to house,
30:06knocking on doors.
30:08It's quite a chaotic scene
30:10in a way of a lot of moving parts.
30:15This is absolutely every officer
30:17with a badge and a gun
30:18that they can get their hands on.
30:20We already have five people killed.
30:22We could have 20 dead before this is over.
30:25We're going to make it stop.
30:27And the way to make it stop
30:28is to find it.
30:30In a small town,
30:31word gets around very quickly.
30:33So there was a lot of news media around.
30:35The people of Fernley are terrified.
30:38You know your neighborhood
30:39better than we do.
30:41Be our eyes and ears.
30:43Call us.
30:44Nobody knows what's going on.
30:46People were wondering,
30:47is he going from house to house?
30:49Why is he doing this?
30:50Who is he targeting?
30:52A lion is on the hunt
30:54and they are the prey.
30:58That's pressure.
31:01An hour passes.
31:03It is the longest hour in history
31:06for that neighborhood.
31:07The urgency is incredible.
31:09They feel it in their chest.
31:12Their hearts in hammer mode at the moment.
31:14And all of a sudden
31:15received another call
31:17of a possible burglary.
31:19They rush over a few houses down
31:21and they talk to the homeowner.
31:23He said,
31:23I hear somebody
31:24crawling around in a crawl space
31:26under my house.
31:30He is probably able to see them
31:33from under that house
31:34and he has a gun.
31:36That's a very awkward feeling.
31:38You begin to feel very naked.
31:41Very naked indeed.
31:48The SWAT team was called
31:49so they could do the search.
31:50So SWAT dives
32:04under that house
32:04and they find nothing.
32:11But they did locate
32:13a phone
32:14and a large amount
32:16of cash.
32:17Maybe he was here
32:19but he's not here now.
32:22So where did he go?
32:26When you know
32:27that your shooter
32:28is nearby,
32:30your head is on a swivel,
32:32your gun is in your hand,
32:35the safety is off,
32:36you're prepared
32:37to defend yourself.
32:39And you better be.
32:41Because he's prepared
32:42to kill you.
32:43So they're looking around
32:58and all of a sudden
32:59they hear somebody yell
33:00there he is.
33:03And all of a sudden
33:04he comes like
33:04through the garage
33:06and
33:08he's got a pair
33:10of jean shorts
33:10and he's covered in blood.
33:11The SWAT team
33:13comes around the corner,
33:14sees him
33:14and then
33:15just
33:15swarmed in on him.
33:18Puts him at gunpoint,
33:20orders him onto the ground
33:21and got him in cuffs.
33:25You assume
33:26he has a gun
33:26on his person.
33:32But they search him
33:33and there's no gun.
33:34He's holding both key fobs
33:39for both the cars
33:40at Angie Duff's house.
33:43He identifies himself
33:44as Jeremiah Bean.
33:48Okay, Jeremiah,
33:50it's time to talk
33:51to this boy
33:51and find out
33:53what his maladjustment is.
33:55It's euphoric
34:10when you finally
34:11find the animal
34:12and you lock him up.
34:15And he suddenly
34:16doesn't look like
34:17he's 12 feet tall.
34:18He just looks like
34:19what he is.
34:20An idiot.
34:21An idiot.
34:21Once you get this person
34:27in custody,
34:27it's almost a relief.
34:29And now,
34:30it's piecing together
34:31how this all happened.
34:37You have the right
34:38to remain silent.
34:39Anything you say
34:39can be used
34:40against you in court.
34:41Do you understand?
34:42Mm-hmm.
34:43And are you willing
34:44to answer some questions
34:45at this time?
34:45Yeah.
34:47He says he wants to talk.
34:49Like, I want to tell my story.
34:51All right,
34:52what do you need
34:53to tell us?
34:54I don't want to say
34:54that I'm crazy,
34:55but I just want him
34:57to be a criminal insane.
35:01I'm just, you know,
35:02just hearing stuff.
35:03The voice will tell me
35:04to do this and do that.
35:08Mr. Bean decides
35:10he's going to do
35:11an absolutely pathetic
35:13third-grade level
35:14impersonation
35:15of a schizophrenic.
35:17He's acting
35:17as if he's speaking
35:18to voices
35:19coming out of his own head.
35:21What he's getting
35:22is an F
35:23from his acting instructor
35:24because it's just pathetic.
35:27So,
35:27so what kind of things
35:29were these voices saying?
35:32They're just saying
35:33to,
35:33to,
35:35to kill somebody.
35:37To kill somebody?
35:37Okay.
35:39They see through
35:40his smoke screen
35:41in a microsecond.
35:43Hey, Jeremiah?
35:44Yeah?
35:44Take your time
35:45on this, okay?
35:46And eventually,
35:48Jeremiah realizes
35:49that his shtick
35:49isn't working
35:50and he starts
35:51to break down.
35:53You know,
35:54I just,
35:55I just got tired
35:56of laughing,
35:57you know,
35:57I just ended up,
35:58you know,
35:59doing some foul stuff.
36:02He just literally
36:03painted the story
36:04from the first time
36:05that he sought
36:06the papes
36:07and decided
36:08that he was going
36:09to rob them
36:09to the point
36:10where he was
36:10in the holy cell.
36:11He says
36:17he was staying
36:17with a friend
36:18in the area
36:19of the papes' home.
36:20He's a heroin addict.
36:21He's desperate
36:21for money.
36:23He had been
36:24watching the papes
36:25and kind of
36:26looked at them
36:26as an easy target.
36:28That's why he chose
36:29to victimize them.
36:32The garage door
36:33was open
36:33and then I walked in
36:34and then,
36:36uh,
36:38I just went
36:39into the bedroom.
36:41and then I
36:45shot the lady first
36:46in the back of the head.
36:48I think she was sleeping.
36:53Her husband
36:53rushed to her aid
36:55and suffered
36:56the same fate.
36:57He came back
36:58into the bedroom
36:59and then I shot
37:00the old man
37:00in the front
37:03of the head.
37:05Then he ransacked
37:06their home,
37:07took their property
37:08of value,
37:09and stayed there
37:10for a day or two.
37:12Then what happened?
37:15Just,
37:15I took the truck
37:16and then I took off.
37:22He went to Reno
37:23and pawned some things,
37:24got some money,
37:25went to a strip club.
37:26He was using the papes
37:27as his own
37:28personal ATM.
37:29and then he came back
37:32to Fernley,
37:33right back
37:33to the papes' house.
37:34They were smelling
37:35pretty bad,
37:36so I just kind of
37:37like covered
37:37with clothes
37:38or whatever.
37:39Okay.
37:40Were they in the same
37:41spots or,
37:42or why?
37:44They were in the closet.
37:46How did they get there?
37:48I put them there.
37:50He said that he
37:51then took bottles
37:52of shampoo
37:53and squeezed them
37:55onto the carpet,
37:55hoping that that
37:56would mask the scent.
37:57and then Sunday
37:59came around
38:00and I was just like,
38:00I'm going to take
38:01the truck again
38:02and,
38:02you know,
38:03I'm going to just
38:03try to hassle
38:04fire or whatever.
38:06I left out
38:07to go to Reno.
38:09He drives it
38:10onto I-80
38:11and heads west.
38:12Okay.
38:13So what happened?
38:15So I was trying
38:15to make a U-turn
38:16off of the freeway.
38:18I had a little sparks.
38:21The truck got stuck
38:22in the ditch.
38:24He's within
38:24a quarter mile
38:25of the gas station
38:26where Graham works.
38:27Graham sees him
38:29off the road
38:30in this truck.
38:32Okay.
38:32So how did you
38:33get him to stop?
38:34I just,
38:35I just waved.
38:35I was like,
38:36hey,
38:36excuse me.
38:37And then I just,
38:39I just went blank.
38:41Then I shot him.
38:50Was he still
38:50inside the car?
38:51Was he outside?
38:52He was still
38:54inside the car
38:55and I tried
38:55to scoot him over
38:56or whatever,
38:57but then he kind
38:58of like just fell out.
39:00He grabbed his pants
39:01to try to move
39:02and they came down.
39:03He grabbed his shirt
39:04to drag him
39:05and all it did
39:06was pull up.
39:07That's why
39:08he's almost naked.
39:09So now he jumps
39:10in Graham's truck.
39:12But instead of getting
39:13back on I-80
39:14heading westbound,
39:15for some reason,
39:16he went back to Fernley,
39:18right back to the
39:18Pape's house.
39:21Then he realizes
39:23he's got another thing
39:24he has to cover up.
39:25And then I just,
39:26I set the truck on fire.
39:29I poured a gas can
39:31all over the truck.
39:34The matches were actually
39:35in the guy's truck.
39:37And then I ran.
39:38He said he was going
39:39to hide all his crimes
39:41by starting a fire
39:43and then hopefully
39:45escape and disappear,
39:46which didn't go
39:47exactly as he planned.
39:48I was just like,
39:50I don't know what to do
39:51because I went
39:51a couple of houses up
39:53and I just opened the door
39:55and I went into the house.
39:57The home of Angie Duff.
40:00He said he wasn't there
40:01to rob the house.
40:04He was there to
40:05simply garner a vehicle.
40:08And then what happened?
40:09The lady came out
40:10of the bedroom
40:10and she was just like,
40:11where are you?
40:13And then that's when
40:14I shot him.
40:15And I missed.
40:17Angie goes into
40:18to fight or fight.
40:19But she picks fight
40:20and so she begins
40:21to tussle with him
40:23a little bit.
40:24And he says that there's
40:25a struggle over the gun
40:26and he gets her pushed back
40:29and she kind of slumps
40:31and then he drops the gun
40:33and he shoots her.
40:34Her husband came
40:37from the backyard.
40:38Lester who is in the backyard
40:40watching the papes house burn
40:41comes back in the house
40:43and Bean said that,
40:45you know,
40:45basically he caught him
40:47off guard,
40:48firing at him,
40:49hitting him
40:50and missing him,
40:51blowing up
40:52the sliding glass door.
40:53They get into a small scuffle
40:55but it wasn't much.
40:56He said Lester went down
40:57pretty fast
40:58and then he grabbed a knife
41:00and started stabbing him.
41:02Now he is covered in blood.
41:05Then what happens?
41:05I started to get undressed
41:09or whatever
41:10and then I just left
41:13so high.
41:15And here come the police.
41:17Oh no,
41:18now he's trapped.
41:19Thank you for telling me
41:21these things.
41:21It can't be easy.
41:23You could see
41:24when he was done talking.
41:26His whole body
41:26just relaxed.
41:28He got it all
41:28off his chest.
41:30After the confession
41:31is complete,
41:32they recovered
41:32a .22 caliber pistol.
41:34the ultimate
41:36corroborating evidence.
41:38He is toast
41:39as we say
41:40in a murder fist.
41:41The person of interest
41:45or suspect
41:46in five murder cases
41:48made his first
41:49court appearance
41:49just minutes ago.
41:51So we're all waiting
41:52in the courtroom.
41:54He comes in
41:54with his attorney
41:55and stands up
41:58and pleads
41:58not guilty.
42:00It was really
42:01mind-boggling
42:02to everybody
42:02because
42:03he confessed
42:04right away
42:06that he did it.
42:06So he goes
42:07into trial.
42:10The evidence
42:11going to trial
42:11is overwhelming.
42:13Jeremiah Bean
42:14is convicted
42:15of five counts
42:15of first-degree murder
42:17and sentenced
42:18to death.
42:20They say
42:20the death penalty
42:21is revenge.
42:24They're right.
42:25It is.
42:27Time for you
42:27to say goodnight,
42:28Jeremiah.
42:28Death is permanent
42:30and he
42:31didn't care.
42:34He killed
42:35five innocent people
42:36that he didn't even know.
42:38People that had families.
42:39People that had kids
42:40and grandkids
42:40and didn't think
42:41twice about it.
42:44What I learned
42:44from this case
42:45is keep an open mind
42:47because anything
42:47can happen
42:48and as much as I like
42:49to look at the good
42:50in people,
42:51there are wolves
42:51among us
42:52that will do
42:53terrible things.
42:58The last time
42:59I was out here
43:00to tend to
43:01Ellie's cross
43:02was about
43:03two and a half,
43:04maybe three years ago.
43:08It just
43:09is a reminder
43:10that he's not forgotten.
43:22The sickest part
43:24about the whole thing,
43:25if that slimy
43:27son of a bitch
43:28had gone over
43:29to Bob
43:30and said,
43:30hey man,
43:31I need to make
43:31a couple of bucks,
43:33he would have hired him
43:35to help him
43:36pull weeds
43:37or do whatever,
43:39but what does he do?
43:40He kills him.
43:43Angry
43:43is what it makes me.
43:46How dare you?
43:48It makes me want
43:50to take a hammer
43:50to his head.
43:54When people say
43:56there's good in everyone,
43:57this is the reason
43:58why that's not true.
44:00There's no good
44:01in Mr. Bean.
44:02What mercy
44:03do we owe him?
44:04None.
