00:13não se ocorre aí
00:14nenhum dares toer
00:16não exatamente verdade
00:18porque há há poucos em TODAN
00:20e onde há há 700
00:22há uma coisa especial
00:26tem aqui
01:55Ele chama a polícia.
02:03Eles descobriam, para o seu horror,
02:11que é um corpo humano.
02:14Um homem de cima do o ombro.
02:16Não os braços, não os braços.
02:18Badão decomporado.
02:20Javi's estado na água há muito tempo.
02:23Dispatch, eu vou pedir a Lieutenant Thompson para ele chegar aqui.
02:27Immediately.
02:27Meu nome é Larry Thompson.
02:40Eu fui um policial de Alpena, Michigan,
02:42por 35 anos.
02:44Como detetive,
02:45eu sempre senti que eu estava falando para as vítimas,
02:48que não eram mais capazes de falar para as mesmas.
02:49April 6, 2008
03:01foi um dia muito definido para mim.
03:07Thompson.
03:10Eu estava em casa com minha família.
03:11Foi um dia que o telefone rang,
03:13e foi o central dispatch.
03:15E o dispatcher disse,
03:17o corpo está colocado no rio.
03:19E o corpo está colocado no rio.
03:22Meu pensamento começou a rio.
03:24E o que nós temos?
03:38Quando eu first arrived,
03:39havia uma grande presença.
03:42O policial de policiais foram lá,
03:43o firefighters foram lá.
03:44Foi muito rápido que isso fosse uma grande investigação
03:47que eu iria tomar o lead.
03:49O que você acha?
04:17O que você acha?
04:17I think it's too soon to tell.
04:21Hold on a second.
04:22I immediately contacted the owners of the dam
04:25and asked that the dam be shut down.
04:34Officers were tasked
04:35with searching the shoreline.
04:40Divers here.
04:42They asked for a dive team
04:43to search for the remainder of this body.
04:47Where are the legs?
04:52Where are the feet?
04:54Where are the hips?
04:55They search thoroughly
04:56in the pool
04:59near the dam
05:00and the surrounding area.
05:04And they find nothing.
05:05So what we have
05:08is a torso only
05:10and it's most likely
05:11of all we're ever going to have.
05:13I went to the morgue.
05:21Met with the coroner
05:22and viewed the body.
05:24You don't see this every day.
05:26Water does terrible things
05:28to human bodies.
05:29And the longer the body
05:30is in the water
05:31the more damage occurs
05:32to where it looks like
05:33something out of a horror film.
05:35There is no way
05:36to determine
05:36if there's any poisons
05:37or any alcohol
05:38or any drugs.
05:39There is no blood.
05:41The major organs
05:41have turned into a jelly.
05:44What Dr. Varane
05:45was able to determine
05:46was the lower portion
05:47of the body
05:48had been severed
05:48from the upper portion
05:49by some sort of
05:51what he called
05:51mechanical means.
05:53How did they come
05:53to be severed
05:54into a passing boat?
05:56The action
05:57of the dam itself
05:58that the body
05:59passed through?
06:00We don't know.
06:01But he also found
06:01puncture wounds
06:02in the chest area.
06:05So with the discovery
06:06of these wounds
06:07this is no longer
06:10a wonderment
06:11of accidental death
06:12or drowning.
06:13This is a homicide.
06:16I had a lot more questions
06:18than I had answers.
06:19We had no idea
06:20who the person was.
06:21So you look
06:22for identifying marks
06:23or scars.
06:25And on the right bicep
06:27of the victim
06:27was a tattoo
06:28that was still
06:29clearly visible.
06:31It says
06:32Lori
06:33L-O-R-I
06:34a woman's name.
06:36That obviously
06:36became crucial
06:37in the identification
06:38of the victim.
06:39Any chance
06:39of getting prints
06:40on that?
06:41Dr. Varani
06:42was very quick
06:42to say that
06:43the fingerprints
06:44were probably
06:45going to be
06:45of very limited value
06:46simply because
06:47the body
06:48was so deteriorated.
06:50You stay
06:51in the water
06:51too long
06:51the skin wrinkles.
06:54The same
06:54in a body
06:55that's been in water
06:56for a long time.
06:57The skin is wrinkled.
06:58So one of the techniques
06:58used by the coroner
06:59is to inject
07:00those fingertips
07:01with saline solution
07:02to get a rolled
07:04print off the finger.
07:06Call me
07:06when you find something.
07:07Sure.
07:08Thank you.
07:09Thank you.
07:10Alpina like any small town
07:17is driven
07:17by the rumor mill.
07:19Didn't take long
07:19somebody's calling me up
07:21and say
07:21hey did you hear
07:22they discovered
07:22this body
07:23floating in the
07:24Thunder Bay River
07:25but where do they
07:26come from?
07:27And any number
07:27of things
07:28could be a possibility.
07:31Thompson
07:31one second.
07:32We had the media
07:33involved in
07:34not only
07:34what had been found
07:35we had divers
07:36that didn't find
07:37anything
07:37but also
07:38what we were
07:39looking for.
07:43And as a result
07:44of that
07:44we had tips
07:45coming in
07:46about missing persons.
07:47What about
07:47the tattoos?
07:49Thompson has
07:49the name
07:50Lurie.
07:51My fellow officers
07:51and I
07:52were checking
07:52computer programs
07:53looking for
07:54possible missing
07:55persons
07:56with tattoos
07:56to rule them out.
07:58Wait
07:58what was that?
08:00He finds
08:01one particular
08:02report
08:02of a middle
08:03aged guy
08:04who is missing
08:05and he has
08:06a tattoo
08:06so Thompson
08:07gets a little
08:08excited.
08:09Rose tattoo
08:10on right arm.
08:12We need
08:13Lurie
08:13not roses.
08:15I'm going to
08:15call the harbor
08:16get a list
08:17of all the
08:17boat rentals
08:17for the past
08:18few months.
08:20However
08:20Thompson
08:21gets very
08:22lucky indeed
08:22with the
08:24fingerprints
08:25they identify
08:28this person
08:29Jerry Holmes
08:30and he's
08:3047 years old.
08:34the positive
08:35identification
08:35of the
08:36victim
08:36from the
08:36lab
08:37was the
08:37biggest
08:38piece of
08:38news
08:38that we
08:39had
08:39and that
08:41really then
08:42put our
08:42investigation
08:43high gear.
08:44Who are you
08:45Jerry Holmes?
08:47When were you
08:48last seen?
08:49Who were you
08:50with?
08:52Where are you
08:53supposed to be?
08:56Because you're
08:56certainly not there
08:57now.
08:58You're in the
08:58morgue.
08:59At least part of you
09:00is.
09:00He starts
09:05Sunday the
09:057th of
09:06September.
09:10The police
09:11in Alpena,
09:12Michigan
09:12find a
09:14torso
09:14that has
09:15been stabbed
09:16with something
09:17a long
09:18time ago.
09:20Gerald
09:21Holmes.
09:22We started
09:23looking into
09:24his background
09:24and people
09:25that he
09:26might have
09:26been associated
09:27with.
09:27Wife's name
09:28Lori Holmes.
09:30There's an
09:31address.
09:43It's an
09:44ugly part
09:44of the job
09:45but it
09:45has to be
09:45done.
09:49Ma'am,
09:49I'm
09:49Lieutenant
09:50Thompson,
09:51Alpena
09:51PD.
09:52I have
09:53some bad
09:53news to
09:54tell you,
09:54ma'am.
09:54We found
09:55your husband
09:56dead.
09:58She
10:02became
10:03very
10:03emotional,
10:04crying.
10:08It
10:08takes
10:09over an
10:09hour to
10:10settle
10:10her
10:10down.
10:12He's
10:12finally
10:12able to
10:13talk to
10:13her about
10:14his
10:15victim,
10:16Jerry
10:16Holmes.
10:20Tell
10:21me a
10:21little
10:21about
10:21Jerry.
10:24Lori
10:24proceeds
10:25to say
10:25that they've
10:26been married
10:27for nine
10:27years,
10:28that Jerry
10:28had been
10:29married
10:29before,
10:30that he
10:31had had
10:31children with
10:32other women.
10:34I'm Jerry's
10:35second oldest
10:36daughter.
10:37I was around
10:38like 9,
10:3910 when my
10:39parents divorced.
10:41My dad,
10:41he was a big
10:42guy.
10:43Hunting,
10:44fishing,
10:45outdoors,
10:46he lived in
10:47it.
10:47He was just
10:47a nice guy.
10:49I remember
10:49the laughter
10:50when things
10:51were good.
10:53He loved
10:53being a dad.
10:54he was
10:55willing to
10:55help
10:55anybody.
10:57He loved
10:58to tell
10:58stories.
10:59He was
10:59a people
10:59person.
11:02The day
11:03that my
11:03mom told
11:04me that
11:04my dad's
11:05body was
11:05found,
11:06I was
11:06at work.
11:10Hands
11:11down,
11:12one of the
11:13worst days
11:13of my life.
11:16Jerry's
11:17always known
11:17how to make
11:17me feel
11:18special.
11:19And he's
11:19a great
11:19father to
11:20the kids.
11:21Lori
11:21says she
11:22has four
11:22children by
11:23another
11:23marriage,
11:23but Jerry
11:25is the
11:25father figure
11:26to those
11:26children.
11:28So Jerry
11:29came into
11:29my life
11:30when I
11:30was five
11:31or six.
11:32I remember
11:33being in
11:34their wedding.
11:36He was a
11:36very big
11:37father figure.
11:39Lori explained
11:40that Jerry
11:41had had
11:42a somewhat
11:42difficult life.
11:43I learned
11:44that he,
11:45as a teenager,
11:46had been
11:46involved in
11:47a serious
11:47industrial
11:48accident.
11:49He was
11:49working at
11:49a factory.
11:50They
11:50unbolted
11:51something on
11:52a furnace,
11:53and the
11:53furnace fell
11:54and pinned
11:55him.
11:56He suffered
11:57horrible injuries
11:58to his
11:59bottom half.
12:00The doctors
12:00tried everything
12:01to save it
12:02and finally
12:03had to
12:03amputate
12:04the leg.
12:07After it
12:07was amputated,
12:08I think he
12:09still fought
12:10the demons
12:10of the pain.
12:11It changed
12:12him.
12:16That's when
12:17he first
12:18started turning
12:18to drugs,
12:19alcohol.
12:21Take a
12:21person like
12:22Jerry
12:22Holmes,
12:23put him
12:2317 years
12:24old,
12:25provide him
12:25with a
12:26grievous
12:26injury,
12:27then provide
12:28him with
12:28painkillers,
12:29and he
12:30develops a
12:30taste for
12:31alcohol.
12:32It's part
12:32of him.
12:33Jerry, in
12:34many ways,
12:35was doomed
12:35and crushed
12:36by an injury
12:37that occurred
12:38to him,
12:38changing his
12:39entire pathway
12:40of his life.
12:41It's really
12:42sad.
12:42My dad
12:44went to
12:44AA,
12:44my mom
12:45went to
12:45Al-Anon,
12:46so as a
12:47family,
12:47we always
12:47worked towards
12:48my dad's
12:48sobriety.
12:50But the
12:50substance abuse
12:51led to
12:51their divorce.
12:53After he
12:54divorced,
12:55he was
12:56having a
12:57lot of
12:57issues with
12:58addiction.
13:00He had
13:00gotten in
13:00a car
13:01accident.
13:01He was
13:02court-ordered
13:02to a
13:03treatment
13:03facility in
13:04Alpena,
13:05Michigan,
13:06and that's
13:06where he
13:07met
13:07Lori.
13:11I remember
13:12my mom
13:13and Jerry's
13:13relationship
13:14being very
13:15good in
13:15the beginning.
13:17We went
13:18to church
13:18all the
13:19time,
13:20and my
13:20mom really
13:21liked that
13:21about Jerry,
13:22that for
13:23once he
13:23was a
13:24good man.
13:25There was
13:25a period
13:26in his
13:26life when
13:27he was
13:28clean,
13:28and he
13:29was sober
13:29for several
13:30years,
13:30and he
13:31was very,
13:32very,
13:32very proud
13:32of it.
13:34But he
13:35wasn't able
13:36to overcome
13:37it,
13:37and he
13:38turned to
13:39drugs again.
13:42I do
13:45remember
13:45a lot
13:46of times
13:46them
13:47arguing
13:48over
13:48substance
13:49abuse.
13:50Jerry
13:50has
13:51problems
13:51with
13:51substance
13:52abuse
13:52as a
13:53result
13:53of
13:53physical
13:54injury.
13:56Lori
13:57and he
13:57became
13:58more
13:58distant.
14:01Their
14:01marriage
14:02was not
14:02going well.
14:03I wanted
14:04to find
14:04out why
14:05there had
14:05not been
14:06a report
14:06of Jerry
14:06being
14:07missing.
14:07They got
14:07into
14:08frequent
14:08fights,
14:09and ultimately
14:09he had
14:10left
14:10the
14:10home.
14:11She
14:11had
14:11not
14:11seen
14:11him
14:12since
14:12late
14:122007.
14:15And now
14:16someone
14:17has
14:17taken
14:17that
14:17life,
14:18and
14:18Thompson's
14:19mission
14:19is to
14:20find out
14:20who
14:20that
14:20is.
14:22Was there
14:22somebody
14:22else?
14:23There's
14:24this
14:24girl
14:25Hannah.
14:26Lori
14:27says
14:27the last
14:28time she
14:28saw
14:28Jerry,
14:29he was
14:29with
14:30a
14:30girl
14:30named
14:30Hannah
14:31Hoffman,
14:31who
14:32she
14:32describes
14:32as a
14:33friend
14:33of his,
14:34who
14:34also
14:34suffered
14:35some
14:35issues
14:36with
14:36drugs.
14:36She
14:37did not
14:37believe
14:37that Jerry
14:38was romantically
14:38involved with
14:39Hannah Hoffman.
14:41How could
14:41I find
14:41Hannah?
14:42I could
14:42tell you a few
14:43places maybe
14:44you can look
14:44for her.
14:45Please.
14:48So that
14:48gives
14:49Thompson a
14:49place to
14:50go.
15:00Thompson
15:00runs a
15:01check on
15:01Hannah
15:02Hoffman's
15:02name,
15:03and he
15:04finds something
15:05that's
15:05rather
15:05alarming.
15:08She
15:09has
15:09a
15:09Krona
15:10record.
15:11Yes,
15:12she does.
15:13How's
15:13it coming
15:13along with
15:14those bank
15:14accounts?
15:15Bank
15:16accounts
15:16are
15:16coming
15:17along.
15:17And
15:18further,
15:19it
15:19appears
15:19that she's
15:20a
15:20signature
15:20on
15:21Jerry
15:21Holmes'
15:22bank
15:22account.
15:23Her
15:23name
15:24is on
15:25every
15:25one
15:26of
15:26these
15:26accounts.
15:29Jerry
15:29wasn't
15:30able
15:30to
15:30work,
15:31but he
15:31received
15:31payments
15:32for
15:32workman's
15:33compensation.
15:33so he
15:34does
15:34have
15:35a
15:35source
15:35of
15:35income.
15:36So she
15:37has a
15:37criminal
15:37record,
15:38and she
15:38has
15:38access
15:39to
15:39his
15:39money,
15:39be it
15:40a
15:40small
15:40amount
15:40of
15:41money,
15:41but the
15:41amount
15:42doesn't
15:42matter.
15:43Jerry
15:43spent six
15:44months in
15:44the water,
15:45and somebody
15:46cut him in
15:46half, for
15:47God's sake.
15:48Million-dollar
15:48motives don't
15:49exist except
15:50in the
15:50movies.
15:51People will
15:52kill over
15:5250 cents
15:53if they
15:54need it.
16:00I think
16:00we made
16:01a lot of
16:01breakthroughs.
16:02I think
16:02we just
16:02picked this
16:03up next
16:03week.
16:03Maybe she
16:07wanted
16:07all of
16:08it.
16:11Miss
16:12Hoffman?
16:12Yeah?
16:13And the
16:14way to get
16:14all of it
16:15is to
16:15get rid
16:16of
16:16Jerry.
16:18Please
16:18sit down.
16:23How do
16:23you know
16:23Jerry?
16:25We both
16:26got pretty
16:27bad into
16:27the painkillers
16:28and alcohol.
16:29Hannah and
16:30Jerry
16:30and Jerry
16:30homes
16:31often band
16:31together to
16:32try to help
16:32each other.
16:33She said he
16:34slept on her
16:34couch for a
16:35short period of
16:35time.
16:36He did not
16:36want to go
16:37back to
16:37Lori's home.
16:38And she
16:38actually went
16:39to help him
16:39get a place
16:40for Jerry to
16:41stay.
16:41This apartment,
16:43do you know
16:43how he paid
16:44for it?
16:44Yeah, he
16:45paid with cash.
16:46I took him to
16:46the bank
16:46myself.
16:48Is that
16:48when your
16:48name was
16:49placed in
16:49his account?
16:51And Thompson
16:51also discovered
16:52that Jerry
16:53himself requested
16:54the bank to
16:55put Hannah
16:56on his
16:56account in
16:57case he was
16:58unable to
16:59make a
16:59withdrawal,
17:00that she
17:00could do
17:00so on
17:01his behalf.
17:04Hannah
17:05produces a
17:06receipt.
17:07Thank you.
17:08The last
17:08time she
17:08took money
17:09out of the
17:09account was
17:10six months
17:10prior, and
17:11it was for
17:11$52, the
17:12payability owed
17:14because he
17:14was unable
17:15to go to
17:15the bank.
17:15After speaking
17:17with Hannah,
17:17checking bank
17:18records, etc.,
17:19we had pretty
17:19much ruled out
17:20any possible
17:21motive there.
17:22Everything
17:22Hannah has
17:23to say makes
17:24her come
17:25across as a
17:26friend and
17:27a caretaker
17:28of Jerry
17:29Holmes and
17:29not a
17:30potential killer.
17:32Do you know
17:32the address of
17:33this apartment?
17:34Yeah, I can
17:35write it down
17:35for you.
17:35Please.
17:36Thompson now
17:37has an
17:37apartment to
17:38search.
17:40Now, that's
17:40significant.
17:42What might
17:43be in there?
17:45It might
17:47lead him
17:48to someone
17:48responsible
17:49for this
17:49death.
17:50I contacted
17:51the owner
17:51of the
17:51apartment.
17:52Landlords
17:53can be good
17:53witnesses
17:54because they
17:54pay attention
17:55to people.
17:56What kind
17:56of person
17:56are they
17:57renting to?
17:58This is
17:59the apartment
17:59that Jerry
18:00Holmes rented
18:01from you.
18:04Yeah,
18:04it's the
18:05apartment.
18:06The landlord
18:06says Jerry
18:07Holmes.
18:08Actually,
18:08he never
18:08moved in.
18:10It's apparent
18:11that nobody
18:11ever lived
18:12there.
18:12Have you
18:13tried Sunrise
18:13Mission yet?
18:15He told me
18:16Jerry frequented
18:17the Sunrise
18:17Mission,
18:18which basically
18:19provides a
18:20service allowing
18:21for individuals
18:22to stay
18:23temporarily,
18:24helps them
18:24look for
18:25work,
18:25etc.
18:26The landlord
18:26suggested to
18:27Thompson,
18:28Jerry was
18:29there a lot.
18:33Thompson
18:33responds to
18:34that shelter.
18:37He starts
18:38asking around.
18:39Either of you
18:39know this man?
18:40Everybody does
18:42know Jerry.
18:43Everybody liked
18:44Jerry.
18:46You should
18:46talk to Ben.
18:48A resident
18:49of the shelter
18:49says there's
18:50a guy named
18:51Ben Hayes.
18:52Ben had been
18:53a resident
18:54for a period
18:55of time.
18:56You should
18:56ask him about
18:57that ring he
18:57wears.
18:58He has seen
18:59Ben Hayes
19:00wear a ring
19:01that belongs
19:02to Jerry
19:03Holmes.
19:06Well,
19:06now,
19:07you have
19:07some explaining
19:08to do,
19:08Mr.
19:08Hayes.
19:09You have a ring
19:09that belongs
19:10to a dead
19:10guy.
19:11You happen
19:12to know
19:12how he got
19:13that ring?
19:14I see Jerry's
19:14wife.
19:15I know
19:15something about
19:15it.
19:17It became
19:17apparent that
19:18there was
19:18some sort
19:18of a relationship
19:19between Ben
19:20and Lori
19:21during the time
19:22that she
19:23and Jerry
19:23were together.
19:24So that
19:24kind of
19:25piqued her
19:25interest.
19:26We got a
19:26guy wearing
19:27his ring
19:27around and
19:28is tapping
19:28his wife.
19:29Yeah,
19:30I need to
19:30put out an
19:30APB on
19:31Ben Hayes.
19:32Well,
19:32that just
19:33might add
19:33up to
19:34murder.
19:34They run
19:39his record
19:39and he
19:40is wanted
19:40on a
19:41warrant,
19:41which means
19:42there is
19:42a God.
19:43You don't
19:43have to
19:44play a
19:44game to
19:45get this
19:45guy to
19:46come in.
19:50Ben,
19:50when he
19:50realizes how
19:51much trouble
19:52he could
19:52be in,
19:53is the
19:53picture of
19:54cooperation.
19:55How long
19:55have you
19:56known
19:56Lori and
19:56Jerry?
19:58I don't
19:58know,
19:58man,
19:58a couple
19:59years,
20:00maybe.
20:01He explains
20:01that he
20:02knows Jerry
20:02homes.
20:03He knows
20:03that Lori
20:04is his
20:05wife,
20:05but he
20:05also knows
20:06that Lori
20:07and Jerry
20:08are estranged.
20:10Ultimately,
20:11Ben ended
20:11up with
20:12some of
20:12Jerry's
20:13property.
20:14He had
20:14a ring
20:14that Lori
20:15had given
20:16him.
20:16He further
20:17says it
20:17is one
20:18of Jerry's
20:19old rings
20:19that he
20:20doesn't want
20:20anymore.
20:21I felt
20:22kind of
20:22weird wearing
20:23it.
20:23And Ben
20:23said he
20:24gave it
20:24back to
20:25Lori.
20:26What he
20:26told us
20:26was believable.
20:27He spoke
20:28very highly
20:28of Jerry,
20:30so there
20:30was nothing
20:31that would
20:31indicate that
20:32he would
20:32have any
20:33involvement
20:33in this
20:34suspicious
20:35death.
20:36Thompson
20:36loses
20:36interest in
20:37him as
20:38a suspect.
20:40This
20:40investigation
20:41was stalled.
20:42For the
20:42Alpina area,
20:43this was
20:44huge.
20:44We had
20:44people asking
20:45questions
20:46multiple times
20:47a day,
20:48wanting to
20:48know,
20:48where are
20:49you at?
20:50I can be
20:51honest with
20:52you,
20:52some days
20:52it seemed
20:53overwhelming.
20:54I wanted
20:55to know
20:55exactly what
20:56happened.
20:58But more
20:59importantly,
21:00his family
21:00needed to
21:01know.
21:01I just
21:01remember
21:02it seemed
21:02like it
21:03was
21:03helter
21:03skelter.
21:04And you
21:05just,
21:05you want
21:05to know.
21:07I was
21:07fixated on
21:08the marks
21:09that was
21:09on Jerry's
21:10body.
21:10It just
21:11always came
21:11back to
21:12it didn't
21:12make sense.
21:14Everyone
21:14is tortured
21:15in a murder
21:15case,
21:16beginning with
21:16the victim
21:17and then
21:18all the
21:18survivors.
21:19The families
21:20have to
21:20suffer through
21:21not knowing.
21:22In this
21:22case,
21:23they can't
21:23even have
21:23a proper
21:24funeral.
21:25They can't
21:25bury all
21:26of their
21:26loved one.
21:27It's just
21:27a terrible
21:28situation.
21:28It was
21:36not uncommon
21:37for Lori to
21:37call or even
21:38come in to
21:39see me asking
21:39questions.
21:40Hey, where
21:40are you at?
21:41What have you
21:41found?
21:42In the
21:42community,
21:42people were
21:43saying, is
21:43this ever
21:43going to be
21:44solved?
21:44And I think
21:44Lori was
21:45feeling that.
21:46You'll be
21:46the first
21:47person we
21:47call when
21:48we do
21:48find
21:48something.
21:51That's one
21:51of the
21:52hardest
21:52things for
21:52police officers
21:53is how
21:54do you
21:54accept the
21:55fact that
21:55it is the
21:56best you
21:56can do.
21:57There were
21:57sometimes
21:57very long
21:58days.
21:59Heart-wrenching,
21:59gut-wrenching.
22:10On the
22:11morning of
22:11August 24th,
22:132009, over
22:14a year since
22:15Jerry Holmes was
22:16pulled out of
22:17the water near
22:17the dam.
22:23Thompson.
22:24Lieutenant
22:25Thompson.
22:25Thompson gets
22:26a phone
22:27call that's
22:28going to
22:28break this
22:28case wide
22:29open.
22:32You're
22:32kidding me.
22:33I received
22:34a phone call
22:34from dispatch.
22:36My boy.
22:38And I was
22:39told that
22:39Sarah,
22:40Lori's daughter,
22:41wanted to
22:41talk to me.
22:44I had been
22:45waiting a long
22:46time for
22:46something to
22:47happen.
22:47I didn't
22:48know what
22:48it was going
22:48to be,
22:49but when I
22:50got this
22:50phone call,
22:51I thought
22:51in the
22:51back of
22:51my mind,
22:52is this
22:52it?
22:53where is
22:55she?
22:56She's down
22:56here waiting
22:57for you in
22:57room two.
23:01Is her
23:01mom with
23:02her?
23:03No.
23:07Sarah at
23:07that time
23:08was 13
23:08years old,
23:09a child.
23:10She had
23:10some troubles
23:11of her own,
23:12and as a
23:12result,
23:12Sarah was
23:13physically
23:14separated from
23:15her mother
23:15at that
23:16moment.
23:16And actually,
23:17she spoke
23:17with me with
23:18the consent
23:19of her
23:19foster mother
23:20at that
23:21time.
23:36Sarah had
23:37shared with
23:37me during
23:38that conversation
23:38this was
23:39something that
23:40she had
23:40thought previously
23:41that she
23:41could take
23:42to her
23:42grave,
23:43but she
23:44had come
23:44to the
23:44realization
23:45that she
23:45had to
23:46tell someone.
23:46Do you
23:47want me to
23:47say exactly
23:48how?
23:50Well,
23:51why don't
23:51you just
23:51start and
23:52you tell
23:52me the
23:52story.
23:54Where do
23:55you want
23:55to start?
23:57But now
23:57she's willing
23:58to say
23:59because she's
23:59probably
24:00always known.
24:01I told
24:02the detective
24:02that I knew
24:03who killed
24:03Jerry.
24:04Well,
24:05my,
24:05my,
24:06my.
24:15Besides
24:16the cops
24:17and now
24:17I have
24:18never
24:18told
24:18this
24:18story
24:19to
24:19anybody.
24:20Honestly,
24:21I think
24:21I decided
24:22to do
24:22this
24:23interview
24:23because
24:24Jerry's
24:24story
24:25needs
24:25to be
24:26told.
24:26Jerry
24:27deserves
24:27justice
24:28and
24:28my
24:29story
24:29needs
24:29to
24:29be
24:30told.
24:30I
24:30think
24:30we
24:31all
24:31deserve
24:31some
24:31closure
24:32and
24:32I'm
24:32really
24:32hoping
24:33that
24:33that's
24:33what
24:34this
24:34gives
24:34me.
24:36Sarah
24:36is a
24:3613-year-old
24:37kid
24:37and what
24:38she say
24:39be relied
24:39upon.
24:40Well,
24:40let's
24:40find out
24:41what she
24:41has to
24:41say
24:42first.
24:42But
24:42it
24:43certainly
24:43sounds
24:43very
24:44promising.
24:46I mean,
24:47I was
24:47only
24:47like
24:48trying
24:4814
24:49and
24:49honestly,
24:50I was
24:51going to
24:51wait
24:52until I
24:52was like
24:5220
24:53to tell
24:53because
24:54I
24:54wanted
24:54my
24:54sisters
24:55to be
24:55able to
24:55understand.
24:57At the
24:57time,
24:58I was
24:58in foster
24:59care and
24:59I got
25:00really close
25:01to what
25:01was my
25:02foster mom
25:03and it
25:03wasn't
25:04until one
25:04day I
25:04finally
25:05asked her
25:06if I
25:06told her
25:07something
25:07that she
25:08had to
25:08promise me
25:09she would
25:09never tell
25:10or I
25:10would kill
25:11myself.
25:11and she
25:13told me
25:14that she
25:14wouldn't
25:15and all
25:16I had
25:16told her
25:16at the
25:17time was
25:17that I
25:18knew
25:18who killed
25:18Jerry.
25:20When you
25:21have someone
25:21who is
25:2213 years
25:23old and
25:23is emotional,
25:24you have to
25:25approach them
25:25as an
25:25understanding
25:26person.
25:27Let them
25:27do all
25:28the talking
25:28initially.
25:29Let them
25:30say what
25:30they're going
25:31to say.
25:31Then you
25:32can always
25:32question them
25:33later about
25:33what they
25:34did say.
25:35But let
25:35them say
25:35it first.
25:36Don't
25:37interrupt
25:37them.
25:37Don't
25:38stop them
25:39because if
25:39you do,
25:40they may
25:40just stop.
25:41let her
25:42tell you.
25:53Sarah shared
25:54with me
25:54very openly
25:55Lori had
25:55actually
25:56awakened
25:56her in
25:56the middle
25:57of the
25:57night.
25:57Sarah.
26:01Sarah.
26:02Sarah.
26:02You gotta
26:02get up.
26:04I had
26:05to stop
26:05her because
26:05I could
26:06barely
26:06understand
26:06her as
26:07I was
26:07just waking
26:08up.
26:09She was
26:09crying and
26:09she told
26:10me that
26:10Jerry was
26:11never going
26:12to be
26:12happy with
26:12nobody else
26:13but we
26:13love.
26:14And I
26:14really didn't
26:15know what
26:16she was
26:16talking about.
26:17And she
26:18told me she
26:18wanted to
26:18come with
26:19her from
26:20my
26:20sweat
26:20in.
26:21She had
26:22asked me
26:22to come
26:22with her
26:23to the
26:23basement.
26:24And that
26:45is when
26:45I seen
26:46that Jerry
26:47was laying
26:47on the
26:48floor.
26:51And I
26:52knew that
26:53he was
26:54dead.
26:58Lori told
26:59her that
27:00she had
27:01stabbed
27:01Jerry.
27:04So
27:05Thompson
27:05is recalling
27:07all the
27:07times Lori
27:08called him
27:09to see
27:10what's
27:10happening
27:10with the
27:11case.
27:12Lori wants
27:12to know
27:13are they
27:13getting
27:13close to
27:14her.
27:14She
27:15wants
27:15to know
27:15if
27:16they've
27:16figured
27:16out
27:17that
27:17it's
27:17her.
27:18All
27:18part
27:18of
27:19the
27:19sociopathy
27:20that
27:20she
27:20feels.
27:21Oh
27:22wait.
27:22I don't
27:24know
27:24like a
27:24dead
27:25animal
27:25smell
27:25but
27:26worse
27:26like
27:27you
27:27could
27:27even
27:28stay
27:28in the
27:28room.
27:30It's
27:30the worst
27:30smell I've
27:31ever smelled
27:31in my life.
27:35Smells
27:35trigger memories.
27:37Smells
27:38will never be
27:39forgotten
27:39when they are
27:40traumatic.
27:41You smell death
27:42for the first
27:42time you'll
27:43always know
27:44what it is.
27:44Training
27:45tells us
27:45that that's
27:45one of the
27:46things that
27:46people talk
27:47about smells.
27:48That usually
27:48means that
27:49there's some
27:49level of
27:49truth to
27:50what they're
27:50telling us.
27:53I was
27:54crying but
27:55she talked
27:56to me and
27:56she made me
27:57promise that
27:57I would
27:57never tell
27:58her money.
27:59My mom
28:00she asked
28:01for help.
28:02She needed
28:02help.
28:02She didn't
28:03know how
28:04she was going
28:05to take care
28:05of it.
28:06How she was
28:06going to lift
28:07it.
28:07I didn't
28:07know what
28:08was going
28:08on.
28:09I was
28:09shaking.
28:09I just
28:10had no
28:10idea how
28:11to take
28:13all of
28:13it in.
28:13There is
28:14such a
28:14thing as
28:14dead weight.
28:15Jerry Holmes
28:16is not a
28:16big man but
28:17he's dead.
28:17She cannot
28:18pick him up
28:19and get him
28:20back up
28:21the stairs.
28:22Can't do
28:22it.
28:22My mom
28:23said that
28:24she needed
28:24help to
28:25move the
28:25body to
28:26the truck
28:26where she
28:27could be
28:27open.
28:28I couldn't
28:29touch him.
28:31What kind
28:32of psychotic
28:33mind would
28:34ask for aid
28:35in moving
28:36a dead
28:37person from
28:38their 13
28:38year old
28:39daughter who
28:40believes
28:40that dead
28:41person is
28:42her father
28:42figure.
28:44How much
28:44of a sociopath
28:45do you have
28:46to be to
28:47disregard the
28:48feelings of
28:48others?
28:49I need
28:50something from
28:51you.
28:51I don't care
28:52about you.
28:53You have
28:54to help
28:54me.
28:55You're my
28:56daughter.
28:58My mom
28:59did threaten
28:59me that if
29:00I told
29:01anybody that
29:02the same
29:02would happen
29:03to me.
29:04Were you
29:04afraid of her?
29:05Everybody
29:06was afraid
29:07of my mom.
29:10Is
29:16Laurie
29:16capable of
29:17that?
29:17Without
29:17question
29:18she's
29:18capable of
29:19that.
29:19She would
29:20kill every
29:20kid in
29:20that house
29:21if it
29:21meant
29:21saving
29:22her own
29:22hide.
29:23That's
29:24what it
29:24means to
29:24be a
29:24sociopath.
29:25So I
29:37got up
29:37the
29:37stairs.
29:38she has
29:50the
29:50chainsaw
29:51to
29:53cut
29:53them
29:53down.
29:54That was
29:54Jerry's
29:55chainsaw.
29:55It was
29:56a
29:56chainsaw
29:57that
29:57lost
29:57after
29:58his
29:5820th
29:59birthday.
29:59Sarah
30:08hides
30:08under
30:09the
30:09covers
30:09upstairs
30:10as
30:10any
30:10kid
30:11would
30:11do.
30:15Mommy
30:15dearest
30:16has
30:16decided
30:16if
30:17she
30:17cuts
30:17this
30:18guy
30:18into
30:18two
30:18pieces
30:19she
30:19can
30:19handle
30:20the
30:20pieces.
30:25Dr.
30:25Verani
30:25had
30:26verified
30:26that
30:27the
30:27body
30:27had
30:27been
30:28cut
30:28in
30:28half
30:28with
30:29some
30:29sort
30:29of
30:29a
30:29mechanism.
30:30Would
30:30a
30:31saw
30:31be
30:31a
30:31mechanism
30:31it
30:31certainly
30:32would.
30:35My
30:35mom
30:35had
30:36bought
30:36and
30:36bought
30:37a lot
30:37of
30:38chemicals.
30:39Bleach
30:40and
30:40pine
30:40salt
30:40were
30:41the
30:41main
30:41things
30:41I
30:41remember
30:42and
30:42she
30:43was
30:43down
30:43there
30:44for
30:44hours
30:44if
30:45not
30:45days
30:45just
30:47cleaning
30:48mopping
30:50every
30:51single
30:51room
30:52down
30:52there.
30:53She
30:54told
30:54me
30:54that
30:54she
30:55helped
30:56Jerry
30:56the
30:56water
30:56I
30:59was
30:59having
30:59difficulty
31:00keeping
31:00my
31:00emotions
31:01in check
31:01during the
31:01conversation
31:02simply because
31:03of what
31:03I was
31:03hearing
31:04for a
31:0413-year-old
31:05telling me
31:06what
31:06happened.
31:07Sarah
31:07did a
31:08great job
31:08of explaining
31:09things.
31:10This
31:11conversation I
31:12was having
31:12with Sarah
31:13was very
31:13emotional for
31:14me.
31:14They had
31:14to go back
31:15later and
31:15review the
31:16videotape
31:16just to be
31:17sure I
31:17heard what
31:18I heard.
31:18She had
31:19cut him
31:19in half
31:20and put
31:21the top
31:21half in
31:22the water
31:22because it
31:24would decay
31:25and she
31:26had put
31:27the leg
31:28and his
31:29authentic
31:30leg
31:30into a
31:31dumpster
31:32and she
31:32made me
31:33promise that
31:33I would
31:34never tell
31:34anybody
31:34and that
31:36she would
31:36kill herself
31:37if anybody
31:37ever found
31:38out.
31:40This
31:40girl is
31:41brave enough
31:42to come
31:42forward and
31:43tell someone
31:44that her
31:44mother was
31:45a monster
31:46and a
31:47killer.
31:47I didn't
31:48talk to
31:48my mom
31:48for days
31:49because of
31:50that.
31:50It was
31:50really hard
31:51to even
31:51look at
31:51my mom.
31:56Jerry was
31:56an amazing
31:56guy.
31:57We looked
31:58at him
31:58as a dad.
31:59He was
31:59always there
32:00for us.
32:00And it
32:01came to
32:01that day
32:02where they
32:02found someone
32:03in the
32:04water.
32:06And I
32:06knew it
32:07was Jerry
32:08because there
32:09was a
32:09half-body
32:10floating.
32:11So I
32:11knew right
32:12then and
32:12there that
32:12was Jerry.
32:14It is a
32:15terrible thing
32:16to have a
32:1613-year-old
32:17child described
32:18to you the
32:19inhumanity of
32:20her own
32:20mother.
32:21Your heart
32:21goes out
32:22to that
32:22kid.
32:23She's been
32:23exposed suddenly
32:24to what a
32:25homicide detective
32:26gets exposed
32:27to every day.
32:28That the
32:29depravity of
32:30man or
32:31woman is
32:32limitless.
32:33Humans would
32:33embarrass a
32:34great white
32:35shark in how
32:36they killed.
32:36We like to
32:37believe we're
32:38very sophisticated
32:39these days.
32:39but we're
32:41only 15
32:42minutes out
32:43of a tree.
32:44Push the
32:44right button
32:45and see
32:46what happens.
32:47When you're
32:4713 years old
32:48you have to
32:49see it.
32:49It's very
32:50very difficult.
32:53But obviously
32:53we're talking
32:54about close to
32:54a year after
32:55the body
32:55had been
32:56found.
32:56The home
32:57where Laurie
32:57had lived
32:58had changed
32:59hands.
33:00The basement
33:01had been
33:01cleaned out.
33:02They look
33:03they find
33:03nothing.
33:04Everyone
33:05is in
33:06consternation.
33:06Thompson
33:09decides
33:09well she
33:10didn't take
33:10this body
33:11and leave
33:12it here.
33:12She had
33:12to remove
33:13it from
33:13the house.
33:15Well
33:16there's a
33:17truck that
33:17Laurie
33:17drives.
33:18They have
33:18a warrant
33:19seeking
33:19physical
33:19evidence
33:20of murder.
33:20That includes
33:21the truck.
33:23They take
33:23it back
33:23to police
33:24laboratory.
33:25And
33:26another
33:26of those
33:26aha moments.
33:29The seat
33:30of the truck
33:30had been
33:30cleaned quite
33:31extensively.
33:33They find
33:34nothing in
33:34it until
33:35a sharp-eyed
33:36forensic
33:36investigator
33:37says what's
33:38this?
33:39Detective.
33:43There was
33:44blood on
33:45the seat
33:45belt on
33:45the passenger
33:46side.
33:47She almost
33:47cleaned the
33:48truck but
33:49almost only
33:49counts in
33:50horseshoes and
33:51hand grenades.
33:52One drop of
33:53blood.
33:54You say well
33:54isn't that
33:55remarkable?
33:55Yeah it is
33:56remarkable.
33:56Is one drop
33:57of blood
33:57enough?
33:58Yeah it is.
34:00The seat
34:01belt was
34:02actually fully
34:02extended when
34:04the blood
34:04got on it.
34:05So in other
34:05words the
34:06only way that
34:06blood would
34:07have gotten
34:07there would
34:08have been
34:08if the
34:08seat belt
34:09was extended
34:09and connected
34:10to the
34:10buckle around
34:11somebody.
34:12Jerry doesn't
34:13drive because
34:14he has an
34:14artificial leg.
34:15Laurie drives
34:16and Jerry sits
34:17on the passenger
34:18side of the
34:19truck.
34:19What if
34:19they're together
34:20and Laurie
34:21attacks him
34:22with something
34:23and stabs him
34:24to death
34:25with it
34:25in the
34:26truck?
34:28The difficulty
34:29is they don't
34:29have blood
34:30from Jerry
34:30Holmes.
34:32Water
34:32destroyed the
34:33blood.
34:33What we
34:35do have
34:36is Jerry
34:37Holmes
34:37has children.
34:39Well no.
34:40They needed
34:40a source
34:41of my dad's
34:42DNA.
34:42We were
34:43willing to
34:43help however
34:44we could.
34:45So Thompson
34:45submits it
34:46to the lab
34:47and waits
34:47for the
34:47phone to
34:48ring.
34:50That test
34:51is going
34:51to tell him
34:52if everything
34:53Sarah said
34:53was the
34:54truth and
34:54Laurie is
34:55the killer
34:55in this
34:56case.
34:56The 27th of
35:10August on
35:11ID.
35:16We have a
35:17case that's
35:18gone on for
35:18a year.
35:19Now we're
35:19waiting for the
35:20one key piece
35:21of evidence
35:21the blood
35:22found in
35:22Laurie's truck
35:23to determine
35:24whether or
35:25not Jerry
35:26died in
35:27that truck.
35:31Thompson.
35:34I see.
35:35Thompson gets
35:36the magic phone
35:37call that
35:38Cheek Suave
35:38from the
35:39daughter shows
35:40that the drop
35:41of blood found
35:42in the pickup
35:42truck belongs
35:44to Jerry Holmes
35:45and to no one
35:45else on this
35:46planet.
35:47Game, set,
35:49and match.
35:50Thank you very
35:50much for the
35:51call.
35:55With this
35:56new scientific
35:57evidence he
35:58felt that there
35:58was enough to
35:59charge Laurie.
36:09She was
36:10arrested for
36:10murder.
36:12I really want
36:13to share some
36:14things with you
36:14guys, but I
36:16was also
36:17advised.
36:20not to say
36:21anything to
36:22you guys
36:22until I
36:23talk to
36:23my lawyer.
36:25So she
36:26basically shut
36:27us down.
36:29Everybody was
36:30preparing for
36:31a trial and
36:32I was scared
36:33to face her.
36:35I couldn't
36:35wait for the
36:35trial.
36:36I had so
36:36much rage
36:37in me.
36:38It was
36:38relieving and
36:39both just
36:40infuriating at
36:42the same time.
36:43We knew she
36:43was absolutely
36:43screwed when it
36:44came to being
36:45in front of a
36:46jury.
36:46I know some
36:47of the concerns
36:47were she might
36:49get charged
36:50with a lesser
36:50charge.
36:51I wanted to
36:52see everything
36:53thrown at her.
36:54Any murder
36:55case, it takes
36:56one to two
36:57years and
36:57sometimes more
36:59to get into
36:59a courtroom.
37:00In the case of
37:01Laurie, she
37:02decides it's
37:03probably in her
37:03interest to plead
37:04guilty and she
37:05does.
37:05She pleads
37:06guilty to
37:06murder.
37:12When Laurie
37:13showed up in
37:13court, I drove
37:14250 miles to
37:16be there because
37:16I felt that that
37:17was some closure
37:18for me.
37:20please approach
37:21your grand
37:21chair, Miss
37:21Holmes.
37:24I remember
37:25Laurie in the
37:27courtroom and
37:29she was built
37:30like a monster
37:31is what I've
37:31always said.
37:34I can't even
37:35explain the
37:36feelings I had
37:36sitting there
37:37watching her
37:38demeanor.
37:40Stone-faced
37:41like she didn't
37:42care.
37:42There was no
37:43remorse.
37:43Laurie's explanation
37:48was that I went
37:50to find Jerry
37:50where he was
37:51staying.
37:52Laurie had
37:53gone to the
37:54apartment where
37:55Jerry was staying
37:55and had wanted
37:57him to come
37:58back home.
37:59I promise you
38:00it's going to be
38:01so different now.
38:02No, damn it,
38:02Laurie, you
38:04got to quit this.
38:05Jerry had been
38:06resistant to that.
38:07Get on the
38:07crank of mom,
38:08please.
38:08She says,
38:11please get in
38:11the truck.
38:13Let's talk
38:13about this.
38:17She finally
38:18convinces him to
38:19get in the truck.
38:20They drive away.
38:21They stop
38:22somewhere.
38:25You can come
38:25home.
38:26You're wasting
38:27your time,
38:28Laurie.
38:28She wanted to
38:29have a relationship
38:30with Jerry, but
38:31Jerry was done
38:32with her and
38:33Laurie didn't
38:33like that.
38:34So what is the
38:35spark in this
38:36case?
38:36Well, you've
38:36got to consider
38:37who the players
38:38are.
38:39Laurie is
38:40psychotic.
38:41Laurie is
38:41sociopathic.
38:42She's all
38:43those things.
38:44Laurie, if she
38:45doesn't get what
38:46she wants, she
38:47will do whatever
38:47she needs to
38:48to get that.
38:49There's no
38:49points.
38:50It never
38:51works out.
38:53Jerry finally
38:54decides she's
38:55had enough.
38:56Laurie's
38:56approach is,
38:57no one
38:58leaves me.
38:59I'm in
39:00control of
39:01the planet.
39:02I put the
39:03world on
39:04automatic pilot
39:05when I go to
39:05sleep at night.
39:06This isn't
39:07getting us
39:07anywhere.
39:08I'm going to
39:09go.
39:09Jerry!
39:11Laurie takes
39:12a screwdriver
39:13out from under
39:14the seat
39:14where she
39:15keeps it.
39:19And proceeds
39:24to stab
39:25Jerry in the
39:26abdomen
39:26multiple times.
39:28Thus,
39:28your shafted
39:29weapon.
39:29reason goes
39:34out the window
39:35and what is
39:35left is
39:36nothing but
39:37violence.
39:40A relatively
39:45helpless guy
39:46can be easily
39:47attacked by a
39:48woman,
39:49particularly by
39:50a banshee
39:51like Laurie,
39:52who's absolutely
39:53out of control.
39:54and out of
40:02her anger
40:03toward him,
40:04she ended
40:04up taking
40:05his life.
40:06She takes
40:07him home.
40:10The panic
40:11sets in.
40:15We know the
40:16rest of it.
40:16she basically
40:27admitted to
40:28stabbing him,
40:29but never
40:29admitted that she
40:30had dismembered the
40:31body, how she had
40:32disposed of the body
40:33or anything.
40:33So we, to this
40:34day, don't know
40:36exactly other than
40:37what she told
40:38Sarah.
40:38Laurie ended
40:42up pleading
40:42guilty to
40:45second-degree
40:45murder, which
40:46in the state
40:46of Michigan has
40:48a typical
40:48punishment of
40:49life in
40:49prison.
40:54I think that
40:55the work that
40:56the department
40:56did was great.
41:00Having to be
41:01faced with this
41:02day after day
41:03after day,
41:04it's like a
41:04brass ring that
41:05you're trying to
41:06grab, but it's
41:07just elusive.
41:07The levels of
41:08frustration probably
41:09ran very high at
41:11times.
41:11Then it's one
41:13tiny speck of
41:14blood that just
41:15turns everything
41:16around.
41:17Did it weigh on
41:18me?
41:18Every day it
41:19weighed on me.
41:20But everybody
41:20worked intimately
41:22together to get
41:23the end result,
41:25which was bringing
41:26closure for the
41:27family and giving
41:28Jerry a voice since
41:30he no longer was
41:31with us.
41:32When I came
41:33forward and I
41:34talked to Larry,
41:36I did feel
41:37a weight off my
41:39shoulders.
41:40I felt like this
41:41might save me,
41:42but at the same
41:43time, I was
41:44scared to death.
41:45And I almost
41:46wondered if they
41:47were even going to
41:48believe something
41:49like this.
41:51But I think the
41:53most thing that
41:54made an impact is
41:55the fact that I
41:56held it for so
41:57long.
41:58And it helped
42:00that Larry made
42:00me feel comfortable.
42:01and he kept
42:03reminding me that I
42:04didn't do anything
42:05wrong because I
42:06felt like I did
42:06everything wrong by
42:07holding this in for
42:08so long.
42:11It's a terrible,
42:12terrible thing for
42:13the survivors.
42:14Sarah loses her
42:15mother to a prison
42:16and her stepfather
42:18to a grave.
42:19These are things
42:20that people don't
42:20forget.
42:21These are things
42:22they suffer from
42:23all their lives.
42:24All the suffering
42:25both sides of the
42:26family go on and
42:28on.
42:28Terrible thing.
42:29Always a terrible
42:31thing.
42:31I don't think that
42:32I'm ever going to
42:33forgive her for what
42:33she did.
42:36Because she destroyed
42:37me at such a young
42:38age and it's not
42:39like I can just
42:40look at someone and
42:41talk to them like
42:42they've been through
42:43what I have.
42:46I actually posted a
42:48status not that long
42:49ago because I'm not
42:51just a story.
42:52I'm a human being
42:53and I have feelings
42:54and I got through
42:55this.
42:56That's more than I
42:58could ever be
42:59thankful for because
43:00I never thought I
43:01was going to be able
43:01to get through it.
43:05I hope that Sarah
43:07is able to break
43:08the chain of her
43:10family's tragedies.
43:12What Sarah did at
43:13such a young age was
43:15probably the bravest
43:16thing I've ever heard
43:17or seen anybody do.
43:19Like my heart breaks
43:20for everything she
43:21went through and I'm
43:23just so thankful for
43:24her.
43:25I think of them
43:26often and I miss them.
43:30I think he'd be proud
43:31of what his children
43:32have done.
43:33Jerry would be very
43:33proud of all his kids.
43:35This has just
43:35absolutely wrecked my
43:37family.
43:39My dad was just a
43:40nice person.
43:41Too nice, clearly.
43:43And just somebody that
43:44suffered from a lot of
43:45trauma himself.
43:46But no matter how bad
43:47my dad was doing, we
43:49always loved him.
43:50He was our dad.
43:52It's just really hard
43:53knowing that someone
43:54else took that all
43:56away from us.
43:59Laurie believed she
44:00destroyed the evidence.
44:01She did.
44:02A great deal of it.
44:03Just not all of it.
44:05One drop of blood put
44:06her inside a steel box,
44:08which is where she
44:08belonged.
44:09I guess I was
44:11a義.
44:12But no 대한
44:12was curb.
44:13I don't think it would
44:15hurt.
44:15I was your...
44:16I was your kid.
44:18I was my kid,
44:18I was your kid.
44:20I mean, I just
44:34had a bad divorce.
44:37I was on a
44:37court on my
