00:00Mom, can you bring me home some extra fabric flowers?
00:03I got a lot of blood on my thumb, and I left a thumbprint.
00:07And now, I'm not breaking my ankles.
00:30Hi, I'm Ella Redd.
00:37I'm a musician, and I'm on tour, and I wanted to show you guys all of my tour outfits.
00:42I have a new album coming out called It's Not Real, and I wanted to show you guys what
00:46I'm going to be wearing on stage every night of this tour.
00:49This is actually a dress that I did not make.
00:52This one is a selkie dress that I absolutely adore.
00:55It makes me look like a fairy princess.
00:57It's super flowy.
00:58And the back has this great bustle that's actually detachable, so I can unbutton all
01:05of these buttons and make it flow out even longer, which I haven't done yet, because I'm
01:10a little nervous that I'm going to trip over it on stage, because I have done that before
01:14with outfits that are too long, so I really like this bustle just keeping it a little bit
01:18shorter, but it's still longer in the back, so that when I'm dancing around on stage, it
01:24flows behind me like this, and I look like a little fairy princess.
01:29I've been following selkie for a very long time because they're one of the, I feel like
01:34few, um, designs, they have one of the few designs that I really enjoy, which is that
01:41very princessy look.
01:42Um, and so I actually sent my mom on a hunt to go look at selkie dresses for me, and she
01:49came across this one and a couple other ones, but this is the one that I brought on tour
01:53with me because this one felt the most stage-worthy.
01:56I also really love these sleeves, I feel like sleeves, like whenever they're super billowy
02:00like this, add a lot of dramatic touch.
02:03I haven't learned how to make sleeves yet, so I don't have any sleeves on the outfits
02:06that I make yet, but hopefully I'll be able to learn how to do that soon.
02:11So I have a few outfits I wear that I transition between every night.
02:15Um, this one I actually wore the first few nights because I had an allergic reaction the
02:20first several days of tour, and this was the most comfortable outfit, so I'm actually
02:25very, very glad I brought this with me, um, because it's not like so much a corset, like
02:30super tight top, um, so I wore this one the first several nights, and I'll probably wear
02:36it maybe once or twice more.
02:38We have a couple weeks left of tour, so I think I'll wear this maybe once or twice more,
02:43but for the rest of tour I'll be wearing other outfits.
02:46So before the tour I actually had a few photo shoots, and I knew I wanted it to be a dress
02:52that I made myself for the main album photo shoot and for all these press photos.
02:57And so I was thinking about something that felt really uniquely me, and I knew I wanted
03:03a corset top, I knew I wanted it to be a big fluffy skirt, I thought it would be really
03:07nice to have some flower detailing.
03:09And so whenever I was sketching it, I was like, see, you can hear me like testing out
03:14like would sleeves work, what did I want the fabric to be made out of, did I want a petticoat
03:20underneath, how did I want the corset, did I want it to be square, did I want it to be
03:24cupped, what would the layering look like in the skirt.
03:27So this is all what kind of went into it in the planning of it.
03:32And then as I was making it, it took a very long time to make, it took an entire week,
03:38which normally I just knock out a dress super fast, but this one took a whole week to make.
03:45And so I knew I wanted it to be a long lasting one also, so I made sure to use lots of interfacing
03:52on the inside of the corset, between all of these fabric layers, I also used steel spiral
03:59boning, all of this black fuzz on the flowers is actually from Elise's tour sweatshirt that
04:05I've been wearing, and it leaves black fuzz all over my fabric flowers, and I can't get
04:12it off, so it's just going to have to be there until the end of tour.
04:16But I really wanted this to last as long as possible, so I really went all out with steel
04:21spiral boning, extra layering, um, this chiffon.
04:26I'm not, I'm not super talented, swear to god.
04:30So there's a lot of really rough edges here, because I didn't know how to do like a rolled
04:35hem or anything, so all of the edges are really rough, but from a distance, you can't
04:40tell, people are seeing it on stage.
04:43And then under here, I knew I wanted it to have like a pink sheen, but I didn't want it
04:48to be a pink fabric, so I used pink tulle underneath it to give it like that, a glowing
04:53from underneath sort of look.
04:55And then I used a poly satin lining underneath so it wouldn't scratch me, and it would have
05:00a good solid base.
05:02Um, and before this, I actually didn't know how to make a dress.
05:06I just knew how to make a corset, hence corset and then separate skirt.
05:12Um, and so I was trying to figure out in my head, I was like how math to connect corset
05:17to skirt.
05:18Um, so I finally figured that out.
05:21And while I was cutting the boning for the skirt, it actually cut me really bad.
05:27And, uh, I actually was like, this is kind of cool.
05:30So I got a lot of blood on my thumb and I left a thumbprint on the inside of the skirt
05:37lining as like a sort of proof that it was like my blood, sweat and tears went into this
05:42dress.
05:43So that's probably my favorite part.
05:45I also added lots of beautiful gold grommets onto the back.
05:50I thought that the more grommets I added, the more sturdy it would be, but it ended up
05:53just being more work without the extra sturdiness.
05:56So that is noted for the future.
06:00And then I also individually sewed all of these fabric flowers onto here.
06:05My mom actually owns a wreath shop where she sells wreath supplies, including a lot of fabric
06:12flowers.
06:12So anytime I need fabric flowers, I just call her up and I'm like, mom, can you bring me
06:17home some extra fabric flowers?
06:19And so that's how I got all of these.
06:21And then I had to individually sew every single one onto here, which took the longest.
06:26It took probably double the amount of time that it took me to make the rest of the dress
06:30just sewing these individual flowers on.
06:33To get the fabric, I literally, I actually tried going to Joann's and then I realized
06:38they shut down.
06:39All of the Joann's everywhere shut down.
06:41So I went to Hobby Lobby and they actually have a really good selection of fabric there.
06:47And that's where I get most of my fabric is from Hobby Lobby.
06:50I try looking online to find thrifted fabric, but sometimes that's a little too expensive
06:55for small projects like this.
06:57Um, so I just go to Hobby Lobby and get some quick fabric for really cheap.
07:02Um, I actually have a lot of people always ask me where I get my fabrics from and it's
07:06it's Hobby Lobby.
07:07Um, so this outfit, this skirt actually was longer yesterday and then I put it on for
07:14the show last night and I was like, this is too long.
07:17I look like a mushroom.
07:17So I took craft scissors, like the little like four inch scissors and I went around and I
07:22just cut it.
07:23I just raw cut it all the way around.
07:27So it's very rough right now, but, um, it works.
07:32Um, so I only wear one outfit every night, but, um, this is definitely the cherry blossom
07:38dress is definitely my favorite.
07:40Um, but this one is a crowd favorite because I actually have a full long form video of the
07:47process of making this outfit and then also wearing it on stage the next day because I
07:52had to make this outfit actually in one day and I did, and that's on YouTube.
07:56So if you want to see me actually making this outfit, you can check that out.
07:59I have a full long form video.
08:01Actually at the show last night, there was a dad with his daughter that came up and he
08:05said that he had watched the video of me sewing this dress and then I came out on stage wearing
08:10it and he was really excited to see it.
08:12So that was really sweet.
08:14Um, but this was probably like the first, this was the first outfit I made to wear on stage.
08:21Um, and it was actually made out of a curtain that I found in my producer's studio in Nashville
08:29and I saw it on his wall and I was like, you're not attached to that curtain by any chance,
08:34are you?
08:35Because I thought he would make such a beautiful dress.
08:37Um, but he showed me where to get it.
08:39And so I got my own curtain and I made it super fast.
08:41Um, I actually, the original pattern, I had to add a couple inches to the corset to make
08:49it a little bit longer so that I could wear it on stage and jump around in it because it
08:53wasn't originally made for like doing strenuous activity on stage.
08:58So I had to adjust the original pattern to make it work for this.
09:02Um, but this one is pretty similar to this dress.
09:06It's actually like the same exact thing.
09:08This one is just connected and this one isn't.
09:10And I actually added an extra little layer here, like an extra just detailed flap because
09:16I thought that would look nice on stage.
09:18And then, um, whenever I wear either of these outfits, I have this petticoat right here and
09:25this goes underneath my skirt.
09:27I did not make this, um, but what this does is it adds a lot of volume without me having
09:33to waste fabric on making petticoat after petticoat for every outfit.
09:37I just throw this on underneath whatever skirt I'm wearing and it adds a lot of volume.
09:42It adds a lot of dramatics.
09:44And so I can move around and fluff around on stage and everyone loves it.
09:47So because I have these fancy dresses every night and they aren't things that I can fold
09:52up super easily, I do have to steam them pretty constantly.
09:56This dress I steamed actually once and we have it hanging out in the junk bunk or hanging
10:02up in the shower so that I don't have to continue steaming it.
10:06Um, but these ones I do have to like shove into a cubby.
10:11So I do have to continue steaming these ones.
10:14I do try to get away as much as possible without needing to steam anything, but I did have to
10:19steam this outfit last night and I probably will need to again a few more times on the rest
10:25of this tour.
10:28These are my shoes that I wear every night.
10:30They're very like starting to fall apart.
10:33You can see like the backs of them are starting to fray because I'm just, I'm moving so much
10:40on stage and I'm stepping on myself over and over again.
10:43Um, I think it's funny how like they're starting to fall apart.
10:46I did actually buy a second pair of these.
10:49So I do have an extra pair for like close to the end of tour when these actually start
10:54falling apart.
10:55I do have another pair to go through.
10:57Um, but these are my favorite to wear on stage.
11:00I used to wear giant ass pumps that I, uh, would trip over all the time.
11:06I would, there'd be wires.
11:07There are normally wires running across the stage, but whenever you're wearing giant heels,
11:12it's very, very easy to roll your ankle and roll it very hard.
11:17So I just kept doing that too often.
11:19And it was just, it was getting so ridiculous and I looked ridiculous on stage.
11:24People loved the dramatics.
11:25They loved the heels, but I didn't love rolling my ankles and falling in front of everyone
11:29so often.
11:30So we switched to flats.
11:32Um, I actually switched to flats on my last tour.
11:35I grabbed like some TJ Maxx, like beach sandals or whatever.
11:40And, um, I really loved wearing flats.
11:42And so I was like, I need to get some cuter ones.
11:44And so we decided with these ballet flats and they're really cute.
11:47I just crossed the ribbon over my ankles and everyone loves it every night.
11:51They love just the same as they love the heels.
11:54So I don't think it's any like dramatics lost there.
11:56In fact, I think it's actually added because of the ribbon.
11:59And now I'm not breaking my ankles.
12:02So because I actually cut this skirt last night, um, I'm actually going to be wearing the extra
12:10skirt that I cut off as a cute little scarf on stage.
12:14Um, I saw like, why not?
12:17It's a cute little accessory and I might be able to throw it into the crowd.
12:21Um, I actually have two of these now because the skirt was so long.
12:24But I normally don't wear earrings or any extra jewelry that's going to hang off and get caught
12:30in anything because I have tried wearing hoop earrings before.
12:33But I have in ears whenever I'm on stage and they get caught and tangled in my hoops.
12:39And also I have so much hair that anytime I move my hand through my hair or past it, if
12:46I'm wearing bracelets or rings or anything, it gets caught.
12:50And then I'm stuck there pulling out my hair while I'm trying to sing and it's never a good
12:55look.
12:55So since I've stopped wearing jewelry other than my necklace, I've been so good.
13:00I haven't gotten caught on anything.
13:02Um, shoot, where did I actually put it?
13:05During soundcheck and stuff, I look like a wreck.
13:08I'm normally in like my hoodie.
13:10I've like seen people waiting outside before we go into soundcheck and I have my hair curlers
13:16in, um, which I actually have to put in right after this for the show tonight.
13:21Um, which are these little guys.
13:25Everyone always asks me what they are because they're not like normal hair curlers.
13:30I put my hair in a ponytail and then I divide my hair into five sections and I wear this on
13:35top of my head, but I look ridiculous.
13:37And so I basically go the entire day.
13:40We go get breakfast.
13:41We go to a gas station.
13:42We go through soundcheck and I look like that the entire day and I just have to not care
13:46about it because I need my hair to be curled.
13:49So that's always fun.
13:51Um, but I have to do this every morning before the show and, um, then like literally 30 minutes
13:58before I go on.
13:59That's whenever I take it all out and that's whenever I have curls and by the end of the
14:03show, my curls are gone again.
14:04It doesn't last long at all.
14:06I try styling foam, but whenever you're moving as much as I do on stage, I'm doing head bangs.
14:12I'm whipping my hair around.
14:13I'm sweating my ass off.
14:15Everything combined just completely destroys all the work that I do for my hair.
14:20So I literally just curled it, but you can't even tell.
14:23So I have to do it again right before this soundcheck.
14:26Thank you so much for coming by and looking at all of my dresses.
14:29I'm so excited to show you everything else I have coming out.
14:31I have a new album called It's Not Real coming out very soon along with so much more new music.
14:37So go check me out at Ella Red.
14:38You can find me Ella Red, Spotify, wherever you get your music and all over social media.
