00:00Hi there.
00:01Rain on top of rain on top of more rain, that's what we're dealing with at the moment.
00:06Some parts of the UK have already received 40 consecutive days of rain and there is more
00:12to come during the next couple of days at least before something a little different
00:17later this week.
00:18More on that in a moment.
00:19But initially we've got the rain turning more showery across England, Wales, Northern
00:23Ireland, extensive low cloud, mist and fog forming overnight, but the rain at least not
00:29quite as heavy.
00:30It's more persistent wet weather though through central and southern Scotland, the far north
00:35east of Scotland as well where it remains windy overnight.
00:37Of course with the cloud and all the wet weather around, it's not going to be a frosty start
00:42to Tuesday.
00:43It is going to be a relatively mild start for a Tuesday morning in February, 7 or 8 Celsius
00:49in places, but a gloomy beginning to the day with that extensive low cloud, mist and hill
00:54fog in many places.
00:58Then we've got the next spell of wet weather moving through south west England, south and
01:02mid Wales during the afternoon accompanied by gusty winds followed by showers and an area
01:09of more persistent rain pushes into Northern Ireland, much of Scotland and increasingly eastern
01:15Scotland where of course it has been exceptionally wet during the last few weeks so we don't need
01:20more of this and it's going to be a very persistent spell of wet weather through Tuesday, Wednesday,
01:26the first part of Thursday.
01:29Initially that rain mostly affecting all levels, but later in the day snow coming down to the
01:35highest routes across eastern Scotland as colder air begins to arrive.
01:406 Celsius in the north east of Scotland, 10 to 12 towards the south and south west not feeling
01:46very pleasant though obviously with the gusty winds and the showers.
01:49Now I mentioned that the snow level is going to start to fall across eastern Scotland and that's
01:55because as these systems move in once again they're blocked from progressing by a cold block
02:00across Scandinavia, but we'll sample a bit more of that cold air as the winds begin to tilt a little
02:06more to the east and the colder air arrives and so on Tuesday night snow level begins to come down
02:12very slowly overnight and some more of the hills and mountains of eastern Scotland will be affected
02:18by snow rather than rain but the persistent rain continues at lower levels and we're talking about
02:2440 to 60 millimetres in places on Tuesday and similar amounts again into Wednesday.
02:32Elsewhere across the UK we've got heavy spells of rain moving in, showers, gusty winds so of course
02:39it's going to be a frost free start for the vast majority on Wednesday.
02:43Dryer for Shetland and Orkney where it will be colder as we begin things on Wednesday and through
02:49the day we've got these areas of rain moving northeastwards again blocked by systems across
02:55Scandinavia and so just piling up across eastern Scotland, northeast England where it's just going to
03:01remain persistently wet throughout Wednesday but the snow level by the end of the afternoon around
03:08three to four hundred metres with five to ten centimetres of snow building up. Damp also for
03:13much of Northern Ireland but further south for the southern half of the UK, drier still some showers
03:19but drier compared with recent weather even some breaks in the cloud before the next bout of heavy
03:24rain moves in accompanied once again by gusty winds. Twelve Celsius in the southwest feeling colder for
03:31Scotland and a little bit colder for Northern England and Northern Ireland as well. Now we watch
03:37as that cold air increasingly mixes with the wet weather across northeastern parts of the UK and then
03:43it all starts to sink south. It's going to take a couple of days but eventually the whole of the UK will be
03:49colder by Friday and into Saturday but more importantly much of the UK will be drier as well albeit relatively
03:58briefly this weekend. We'll have more on our YouTube channel where you can find the forecast for the week ahead with Annie.
