How big a deal is Halloween in your household? Are you a fan of Autumn, and what do you look forward to at this time of year?
Transcript
00:00This time of year, yeah, with coming up to Halloween, autumn kicks in, it's time for going to a pub with a nice roaring fire.
00:06Halloween's not really my thing, it's my wife's. I don't really like to answer the door, but she likes to dress up and everything.
00:12I'm a bit of a misery, but saying that I'm a Yorkshire lad, so yeah, it's time for getting the warmer weather on.
00:18A bit of a jacket instead of a t-shirt, because we're from Yorkshire, and just enjoying the changing the colours, changing the temperature, and getting ready for winter.
00:27Coming from a Catholic background, knowing Halloween is just before all saints, there was always something.
00:36And certainly my daughter, I can remember dressing up as a witch's cat and, you know, going round.
00:43And also because I used to teach in the very local area, I can remember lots of children, very dressed up, coming for trick-or-treating.
00:51Maybe just for kids, isn't it? That's all it's for. Really, obviously.
00:57But otherwise, for me, just passing, like the wind, you know, just blows it in, blows it out.
01:07My teenage girls are very excited about Halloween, and the parties, they've been invited.
01:14So at the moment, we're hunting for costumes. In terms of my friends, actually, my friends are also quite excited.
01:22And so, we're going to a party. I already have my costume. So yes, I presume, yes, we are in the spirit of the Halloween festivity.
01:34We've not done Halloween for ourselves as much, but when our children were growing up, they did it.
01:39But back then, in the, like, 90s, it was just like a black bin liner and a witch's hat and a bit of green face paint kind of thing, and that was it.
01:48But then over the years, obviously, as they got older, they had more ideas.
01:52Autumn's lovely if the weather's dry, isn't it? Because you've got all the colours on the trees and the, like, all the, you know, acorns.
01:59I do very much like it, and I feel very lucky to live close enough within walking distance to Roundy Park, because the park is really beautiful in the autumn.
02:10It hasn't quite started to really dramatically change colour, but it will.
02:14Yeah, I like autumn. It's beautiful colours, especially here in Otley.
02:21There's some really great places to, you know, to go for a walk, and I really like going to Bolton Abbey.
02:26All the trees, they're changing colour. Fantastic. I really like it.
02:31So, yeah. Halloween, I don't know, slightly less excited about that, if I'm honest.
02:37But, yeah, I mean, I like ghost stories and things like that, so there's usually, like, some good kind of entertainment.
02:45I think Lana did a good Charlie Chaplin once, like a Halloween Charlie Chaplin.
02:48She did.
02:49Basically, it's American. Everything comes from America, and I guess I'm a bit miserable else, but it gets on my nerves.
