Discover Wonderland Awaits across Leeds City Centre this summer

Here’s a taste of the immersive ‘Wonderland Awaits’ trail with Alice in Wonderland installations to be found across Leeds City Centre this summer.

00:00Wonderland awaits is what we're doing this year for our summer takeover every

00:04year we like to do a takeover in the city centre to animate the city centre

00:08to drive footfall in and to give people a good time free events that are

00:12happening across the city and this year Alice in Wonderland follow the trail to

00:17finish the tale simple as that seven activations across the city puzzles

00:22competitions theatricals actors tea parties lots of things for people to do

00:29over the summer holidays so we encourage people to pick up a map and and enjoy

00:34and get involved we go right down to the armories Royal Armouries where you'll

00:38find the Jabberwocky you then can walk back up and you'll find something in

00:42Trinity so going to Trinity Victoria Gate Victoria Quarter the Merion Centre and

00:48Air Park and Bridgewater Place where you'll find the Cheshire Cat and there's

00:54something in each location for people to do get involved with and why do we do all

00:58this why does Leeds bid do all that well we're an organisation that connects the

01:03city brings people together for collective good we've got no interest

01:07other than to improve Leeds City Centre to drive footfall in and to make things

01:11happen which just wouldn't happen by individuals on their own so we've done

01:15these trails we've done these takeover events during the summer holidays and

01:18people are saying what you're doing next what you're doing next and how do we do

01:21something creative and innovative that hasn't been done before

01:24Monopoly as we all know was fantastic for us last year both as Victoria Leeds but

01:28also as the wider Leeds City great to see families coming in but also groups of

01:33grown adults as well coming into the centre and actually doing the trail so we

01:37definitely saw an increase in footfall during the period and great to have

01:41something to do in the summer holidays to bring your kids in that's completely free

01:44my name's Jenny and I'm owner of the Marshmallowist which is a gourmet

01:49marshmallow company based in Leeds Leedsbeard invited us a few months ago to

01:53whip up marshmallow creation to fit with their Alice in Wonderland theme so

01:59something that could be served at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and given out as a

02:04treat for those taking part in the adventure in Wonderland coming into the

02:08city centre is always something that's really exciting but also exploring it in

02:12new ways and going to different areas that you might not go to every day it's

02:16something that I think is really special what always amazes me when I come in I

02:20came in on the train today is is the volume of cranes and building works that's

02:24going on that continues to go on in Leeds City Centre the amount of

02:27accommodation how we've regenerated the high street we've seen new businesses go

02:32in there the storehouse is nearly finished on Brigitte we've seen new

02:35stores in Trinity and there's still new brands coming into the city and and our

02:41office sector is growing as well so you're seeing again companies choosing

02:46Leeds because of its central location in the UK but because of the vibrancy that

02:50goes with that we're we've got a very young workforce in the city young

02:54professional sector and again you know what it's quite a cool place to come and

02:57live work and play and enjoy stuff
