With many schools in Leeds breaking up for the summer, Leeds locals reflect on their schooldays and school holiday memories.

00:00I liked school when it was running especially when I was doing my A-levels it's kind of you
00:03know the teachers that you vibe with you've kind of selected your subjects based on that at least
00:08I did so I enjoyed kind of in a smaller classroom setting spending that time with my teachers
00:13but then when school would break up for the summer we had an ice cream van that would park
00:17right opposite so it was just me and my friends all going to the same van getting our ice cream
00:21together and like just enjoying kind of the summer sunshine. We used to absolutely love
00:26breaking up for six weeks holidays finally with destination which were Butlins then which
00:31ain't there now Primrose Valley and it used to be seemed to be red it used to be red hot in those
00:38days we used to have some right heat waves. School holidays when we broke up I broke my very last
00:44day at school I found a white mouse on the drive so I took it home to my mum and she promptly threw
00:50me out the door she didn't want me to but anyway I did actually keep the white mouse and it had loads
00:56of babies and I'm sure my mum kept throwing them away. I wish I could go back and I think the kids
01:02don't really know how life was then to everyone's stuck indoors playing on computer games and everything
01:08and I think it's quite sad and the communication has dropped because everybody's got their head
01:13in the phones so which is quite sad. Honestly it should be longer six weeks isn't enough mate
01:19they deserve a lot more time off genuinely from school and especially without the stress of the
01:23exams and stuff like that even people who are like year 10 doing SATs not SATs sorry like mock exams
01:28and stuff like that they need time off as well I think they should get leavers for doing mocks as
01:32well. My six-week holidays just being in the countryside was the massive excitement and going to parks I
01:38remember going to tropical world a lot like round day park in Leeds as well I know that when I have kids
01:44will be all around you doing with things I used to love music and geography and history so we'd always be going to
01:51National Trust bits and looking at things like that and just enjoying the British summer time when
01:56it was sunny and then just going to Devon I used to absolutely love it just a little trip away why
02:01not and six weeks is definitely not long enough I could have definitely gone for longer but there
02:06was no computers or anything then so we used to play we'd always be out playing first thing in the morning
02:12until last thing at night Maths my best subjects at school that's about it really and sports day and
02:19everything that's about it really English was my bad bad subject so I couldn't I can't spell for
02:25toffee can't draw for toffee either so I couldn't do nothing it always seemed to be sunny you know that the
02:34summer seemed to be just gorgeous not strikingly hot but nice and warm and I remember having my first shandy
02:45after playing football and it was just a bottle of shandy it was cold it was from heaven it really was
02:52gorgeous yes and um I've had a few since
