He said the pitch provided no assistance to the bowlers, leaving India in a comfortable position.

00:00Day two of the Ahmedabad test saw India adding another 327 runs against the West Indies and
00:06losing just three wickets. The lead is now 286 for the home side, with three batters
00:12getting sentries. At the post-match conference, Wendy's bowling coach Ravi Rampol said the
00:17men in Maroon gave it their best shot out in the middle.
00:20I think it was a very tough day on a nice wicket to bat on. We tried, we tried different
00:29tactical bowling strategies. I guess going forward, we could probably stick to that a
00:37little bit more, a little more in our execution, even though there was not much there for the
00:42bowlers throughout the day. But I think the bowlers tried hard. I can't fault them on that pitch.
00:49The way that they bowl, it could have been worse. Prior to the start of the series,
00:54the West Indies think tank was hoping to take inspiration from the Black Caps,
00:58who swept India 3-0 on the subcontinent last year. According to Rampol,
01:03the men from the Caribbean also tried replicating New Zealand's tactics.
01:07When we planned to get the right pace to bowl at, we looked at what the New Zealand spinners did and
01:14tried to replicate that amount of pace that they were delivering at. But it's two different pitches.
01:22This pitch is a lot more better for batting and less spin. So I don't think that the pace
01:28that we bowled affected the turn of the pitch.
01:33The Windies started the series without pacers Alzari Joseph and Shammar Joseph,
01:37both of whom are injured. That resulted in Johan Lane making his test debut,
01:43while Anderson Phillip flew into India to be included in the squad.
01:47It was very difficult. It was like a big hole to fill losing Shammar and Azari through injuries.
01:54And the next in line was Johan Lane, who was with us during the test series in Australia.
02:02So he was next in line, Anderson Phillip as well. But it was a big hole to fill and we could see it out
02:09there that in the fast bowling department, we really didn't have any assistant with Jaden to help Jaden
02:16through the bowling.
02:19Rampol had no regrets with the West Indies opting to bat first, despite being bundled out for 162.
