The Prime Minister is not budging from her support of the United States' declared war on drug cartels, as the U.S. has conducted yet another military strike on a boat off the Coast of Venezuela - a boat the US President said was loaded with illegal drugs.
This, as the Prime Minister maintains her administration has nothing against the people of Venezuela.
00:00What I'm pushing and really pushing on is against the criminals, the narco-traffickers, the human traffickers, the gunrunners, the criminals.
00:09So we have nothing against the people of Venezuela. I've repeatedly said we stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela.
00:16Prime Minister Kamala Pesab is speaking with the media about her administration's support for the United States military strikes on boats the U.S. says were being used by narco-terrorists from Venezuela to carry illegal drugs.
00:30This is occurring as the government has declared there has been a revival of the deal for the supply of natural gas from Venezuela's dragon field to Trinidad and Tobago
00:38following a bilateral meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Prime Minister Pesab is in Washington on Tuesday.
00:45The government is now waiting on confirmation of the renewal of U.S. licenses that are in essence waivers of certain sanctions against Venezuela.
00:54However, Venezuela owns the rights to the dragon gas.
00:57What is the back and forth with Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela?
01:01I have repeatedly said we stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela.
01:07We have no intention of putting boots on the ground in Venezuela or putting soldiers or putting weapons.
01:12Nothing of the sort.
01:13The Prime Minister spoke with the media on the matter following an event at the Diplomatic Center on Friday just hours after the U.S. conducted what is now its fourth military strike in its war on drug cartels in the Caribbean.
01:24U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media that a boat loaded with enough drugs to kill 20,000 to 50,000 people was stopped early this morning off the coast of Venezuela from entering American territory.
01:38U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hetsch also said on social media that on Friday morning on President Trump's orders, he, quote,
01:46directed a lethal kinetic strike on a narco-trafficking vessel affiliated with designated terrorist organizations in the U.S. Southcom area of responsibility.
01:57Four male narco-terrorists aboard the vessel were killed in the strike and no U.S. forces were harmed in the operation.
02:03The strike was conducted in international waters just off the coast of Venezuela while the vessel was transporting substantial amounts of narcotics headed to America to poison our people, end quote.
02:16TV6 News posed the question to Prime Minister Prasad-Basasa about this latest development.
02:21Your support, there's no change in your support. Let's say, for example, this action today.
02:25We remain in support of the intervention by the United States.
02:30In fact, since that has happened, you would have seen that the amount of murders in my own country has fallen in numbers.
02:38That might be partly because of that.
02:40And the other part would be, of course, the state of emergency that we have in place, which has not disrupted lives except the lives of criminals.
02:48The Prime Minister is not budging from her full support of the U.S. intervention in the region.
02:54Criminals are criminals.
02:55Criminals. And we have to wipe out criminals, as I see, violently had said it.
03:00So, yes, we are in support.
03:02Unless I have evidence to the contrary that something is wrong, I have no such evidence.
03:07An apparent response to those who have expressed concerns about the Prasad-Basasa administration's support for the U.S. war on drug cartels in the region.
03:15The U.S. war secretary said with regard to the U.S. military strike in the Caribbean on Friday
03:45The U.S. war secretary then promised, quote,
03:58These strikes will continue until the attacks on the American people are over, end quote.
